Refreshing Science Fiction

Kestell is my kind of writer- action, adventure, sci-fi, intrigue, romance , faith, family, friends, patriotism, fun, witty, thoughtful, and sometimes zany! Did I mention "clean, never obscene?" I classify almost everything I pick up lately as "trash." But Vikki Kestell I classify as "Treasure." Enough said.

A far-fetched slam-bang finish, loved it

This last book slid back to basic techno thriller material, but wonderfully inventive. If you’re not a believer, it will probably anger you. If you are one, it will challenge your faith. Regardless, it's a wonderfully enjoyable ending to an exceptional series.

Okay, so those of you who've known me a while might remember the desperate review I wrote at the end of the third book of this series, yelling, begging, pleading, pouting, and DEMANDING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS that another book be released. You might be expecting more of the same, and honestly, I kind of was, too. After all, I'm still as attached to these characters and passionately appreciative of the stories... But, as I sit down to write this review, I'm not feeling the burning desire to yell "MORE BOOKS NOW!" I'm just grateful that, despite promises to the contrary, this book is in the world such a short time after the third book was released.

Maybe I'm maturing. Maybe I'm just embarrassed that it took me so long to read this fourth book. Or maybe I just want Jayda and Zander to have a long enough break to . Or maybe I'm a teensy bit intrigued to see Vikki Kestell work her magic in a spy/historical fiction crossover genre book, which is apparently what she's planned next.

Because, make no mistake, Vikki Kestell's writing is pure magic. I mean that in the complimentary sense, of course, and do not mean to imply that she writes in the fantasy genre. She could, I'm sure, but these books are definitely science-fiction spy thrillers and I've loved every minute of them. She is literally the only Christian author that hasn't upset me while throwing miracles into the plot. I always think, "Yes, of course God can do anything, but you're an author! Ever heard of deus ex machina? Hellllllooooooooo?" But when Vikki writes about a miracle, it's already been built into the plot (so it's not "out of the machine"), and she uses it to make a powerful point. Her attention to details like that is stunning, and her plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! (I mean "edge of my seat" in the complimentary sense, as well. I actually read the vast majority of this book in the car, so literally sitting on the edge of my seat would have been both unsafe and mighty uncomfortable with my seat belt.)

So, yeah, another awesome book in this series! Y'all might be tired of hearing that by now, which is too bad because if she ever decides to write a fifth book I AM TOTALLY READING IT. And a sixth book. And a seventh book. And a hundredth book. I literally don't care, she could keep writing this series and I would keep reading them because they're that good. But, I won't be a brat about it this time. I've gotten the chance to see Jayda and Zander and the nanomites in heart-pounding, surprising, and all-in-all delightful action, and I am very satisfied.

Deep State Stealth will not disappoint you if you're trying to decide to read the 4th book in this series! I love all 4 of the Nanostealth series books! The first one, Stealthy Steps, had me hooked from the beginning!

Deep State Stealth has great characters (I love the growth of Gemma/Jayda through the series), suspense, and sci-fi that i really enjoyed! There are great messages of salvation and hope woven into the stories that have touched my heart when I've needed them.

I'm looking forward to more in the series, eventually. 😀

Now that Gemma (make that Jayda) and Zander are both super-powered and married, they're all set to save the president's life (again). Tasked with rooting out the conspiracy that did not end with the death of the vice president, Jayda will go undercover in the NSA. Will she and Zander be able to root out the corruption and get out of the espionage business?

I struggled with this book quite a bit early on. I almost gave up on it after the first few chapters. But I stuck with it, and when the storyline about the conspiracy involving the president got going, the story picked up. In the end, though, this was the weakest book in the series, in my opinion.

This book has the odd distinction of being a bit too religious for me, and yet having some things that made me uncomfortable, especially in a Christian book. I'm not against Christianity in a book by any means. But in a book of this type, it's much better off being spread out, rather than shoved at the reader all at once, which is how the beginning of the book felt. But even while that was happening, there were discussions of and references to the newlyweds' "nap times" that were just too much for me--both near the beginning, and later in the book too (nothing graphic, just uncomfortable). And throughout the book, there was a lot of "bleeped" cussing. I know that Christian authors have to decide how to handle real-world language in their books, and Kestell's approach isn't a bad one, but there was a lot of it. And my mind does fill in the missing words, so I got a point where I was irritated by the amount of cuss words the book was putting into my head.

I don't mean to imply that the book was bad, though. It provided more resolution to the rest of the series than I expected. There was a reveal later in the book that I thought was going to turn out to be anti-climactic, but was pretty interesting. And going into this book, I was really worried about the way the 2 clouds of nanomites behaved at the end of the previous book--almost like a form of sibling rivalry, and I was happy to see that that was largely downplayed in this book. Like with the previous book, the main plot was engaging, and I really liked the way Jayda and Zander utilized the nanomites.

One more thing--like with the previous book, this one is written in mixed perspectives. Most of it is 1st-person from Jayda's point of view, with some 3rd-person if the author wanted to show things happening with other characters. For as strange as it was in the previous book, it was even more strange in this one, as more than once, Jayda herself was referenced in one of the 3rd-person sections, and it took me out of the story, since she's the character whose eyes we view most of the story through. The writing style in general really isn't for me.

Looking back at the series as a whole, it has its pros and cons. The story itself was good--I really liked the premise, especially the initial accidental invisibility, and Gemma learning to work with the mites. The author's style and insertion of religion detracted from the series overall, but I think many other Christians wouldn't be so bothered by the things that bothered me. Be sure to check out other reviews if you're interested, as there are many positive ones for this series.

This is book 4 in the series.
It was super fun and very funny at times...
in that the nanomites now know scripture...
and they speak it,
often in a perfect way,
but also,
sometimes (not at all in a degrading way),
in just a funny timing etc.

And there was one character that really surprised me!

After all at age 78, I have done a LOT of reading!!!
As an only child, with adopted parents who were grandparent age,
and we live waaaay out on a point
( not neighbors next door).....
books were my 'friends'.

Sooooo I don't get fooled too often with 'sneak attack' characters....
I 'knew' there was going to be one...
I kept going over the list of characters in my mind,
but just could not figure out who it was!!

And then, there was the 'miracle'!!!
Well because when you have the kind of help the nano's give you,
it can be a struggle, not to lean totally on them, and not God.

I also knew, that was coming, but I loved the way the author,
brought in the perfect scripture for the miracle!!

As always, Vikki is a great author!!!

But I do wonder sometimes about her previous jobs....
Does she know too much?
She really knows a LOT!!!

Onto book #5 yeah!!!!

I loved this series, but I found this last book hard to get into. I started and stopped several times over the month, and then decided to just go ahead and finish it. I think it was harder for me to get into because the discovery of all the nanomites can become is over - and Gemma (now Jayda) and Zander are using their new bodies to find out who is trying to kill President Jackson. I had my suspicions, but it went deeper than I thought, and the reason far more sinister. I think that if I had read all the books in a row it would have been easier to get into, but I have been reading the books as they came out and I lose the feel for the story in all of that time.

This is a clean read. Suspense and romance!

Amazing ending ? to this wonderful modern day saga!

I was immediately captured by book one in this series and was lucky enough to not discover it until all the books were available except for this last one. It was certainly worth the wait. Not only is the story line intriguing, but your personal faith is feed along the way. The inside information on facets within our government and those that operate outside the realm is both informative and frightening. It’s a book you don’t want to miss. Knowing that God is in control is the only thing that helps the characters and the readers make it to the finish line!

Suspense theater!

The fourth, and for now, last book in the Nanostealth series was awesome! Action on every page, and quite a satisfactory ending to boot. There is the possibility of more to come at some point in the future, so there is that to look forward to. In Deep State, the nanomites encounter Jesus and download the Bible into their bank of knowledge. Then they begin to quote scriptures which actually lends a few guffaws to the reader. Although I am no techie, I was enthralled with the tech aspect of this series. Anyone who is open to new adventures will enjoy this series.

I was eagerly anticipating the conclusion of this series, however, the whole first half of the book was just endless details and explanations. I had a very hard time getting through it. Once the ACTION started, I could hardly put it down! The plot twists were completely unpredictable, and it was riveting! However, the whole first half of the book could have been summarized in about two or three chapters to get to the exciting action. The best part of the story was the takeaway that there will ALWAYS be evil in the world, even someone with "superpowers" can't eliminate evil, only Jesus Christ can truly conquer evil and protect His children.

I can't believe this ride is over. It was so goooood! Jada and Sander going undercover to save the President and Amercian's Constitutional rights of the United States. Evil was lurking in plain sight for decades finally seeing their evil plans at arms reach. Just a few more moves and socialism would destroy America as it has done all other nations. I cried at the realization of how close this book was to our circumstances in America right now. The author kept me on the edge of my seat, and the narrator played each part with intrigue and aww. I highly recommend this book and the entire series to everyone.

I am not a huge sci-fi fan, but this series drew me in and wouldn't let me go!! I absolutely loved the plot, the characters and how Kestell weaves such a wonderful story. The nanomites became very endearing to me, especially how they quoted scripture to Jayda/Gemma and Zander at some of the most inopportune times. Even though this is a work of fiction, I believe there are elements of truth regarding how the Deep State has infiltrated our government and other institutions, as shown in the story. Very eye-opening!
Hoping and praying that there will be more Nanostealth stories to come in the near future!!

I didn’t think Vikki Kestell could do better than the other three in this series, but as usual she came through with flying colors. Not only did the plot get more and more complicated with a totally surprising ending, but my faith grew and was so encouraged by how insightful the author is. It also gave me better insight into the workings of our government and how we need to pray more diligently for our leaders as well as realize that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places.

Fascinating, gripping, could NOT put this book down!

This 4th in this series is just as riveting and compelling as all the others. Nailbiting adventure, awesome battles, fascinating and delightful characters and at times, laugh-out-loud hilarity! This is an amazing read and the author is absolutely one of the best! Wonderful scripture and references, I love this book.

Stayed up late, way too late, finishing these books and begging the author do do it again!

Thank you

Book four is the best ever. All the previous books supported this one. Your testimony was well woven in the plot. I can't thank you enough for the encouragement I received from this story. God's message was and His plan of salvation was well documented. I appreciated the prayers throughout the story. Again thanks for for your witness and and a well written book with no sexual overtones, foul language or extreme violence. I pray for your sucess and future directions.

Awesome series!

This whole series, books 1-4 have been sooo good! I love the characters and the message in the book. It's been awhile that I've found a series that I enjoyed as much as this one! I especially liked the unusual plot line, the spy/sci-fi part to it, something so different that just pulls you in! Can't wait to read more books from this author!

Excellent series!

A little bit sci-fy. A little bit Christian fiction. A little bit politics. A little bit romance. I started this series when I was able to download the first one free; as I get most of my books. However, I enjoyed it so much I purchased the rest of the series which is very unusual for me!

I really enjoyed this series, and I’m sad to see it end. I really liked the way other characters were brought into this book too, along with our main characters. Everything just flowed so well. Faith was brought out much stronger in this book also. I highly recommend this book and the whole series. I’ll be looking at some of the other books by this author.

I really like this series. This 4th book isn’t as fast paced as the third one but it was still full of suspense and intrigue. I did enjoy the fact that it ended in a good way so that if there aren’t more in the series it's ok but more would be good too. Good read.

Great read

Loved the mystery in this book but most of all was so encouraged by the Godly words inserted in this book.
In the midst of fiction adventure real life happens and to be encouraged to depend on God is so enjoyable to read.

Wow! Talk about plot twists and mind-blowing action! I alternately gasped, cheered, groaned, and laughed my way through this book. Whew, I need to take a break before going on to the next one, but I look forward to it. It may be science fiction, but there's a lot of truth in this book too.

This was the best book I've read this year! This was a great addition of the series. Jada and Zander Cruz go to Washington DC to help the president of the United States. There is a lot of action with no foul language. It is written from a Christian perspective.
