I'm a school social worker, and were I given the chance to go back in time and give my fresh-out-of-grad-school self two books to prepare for my career, I would have chosen Classwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and this one. The first book summarizes how the principles of operant conditioning can be applied to the classroom, and this one outlines different coping skills which can help children -- or anyone really -- deal with their strong emotions. Halloran's presentation is incredibly clear and concise, and I'm excited to incorporate many of her ideas into my own practice. All of the book's worksheets and handouts can be downloaded at pesi.com/coping.
I wish I had this book my first year of counseling! I was excited to see that I had already been doing some of the coping skills already but I did learn more. I have been able to share this information with our parents during this tough time of COVID! A lot of great resources!
