Rate this book
When Luck Dies is part one of the multi-part serial novel, The Murder Lawyer.

Criminal defense lawyer Luna Goldwyn has defended a long list of petty criminals facing drug court and probation violations in her short legal career, but she’s never defended a cold-blooded murderer.

Until now.

Three days before closing arguments in the highly-publicized Tammy White murder trial, Luna’s boss and Tammy’s attorney drops dead at his desk. With no other options, Luna's forced to give closing arguments at her very first murder trial.

The problem is there’s no doubt Tammy White killed her husband. She shot him right between the eyes while he slept. She confessed to the crime when she was arrested. Now she’s facing the death penalty and the stakes have never been higher.

Can Luna convince a jury that her client had no other option but to kill her husband? Will Luna pull off a miracle and save Tammy’s life?

When Luck Dies is the first story in The Murder Lawyer series, a novelette series about murder, family, and the grayer areas of the law. If you’ve ever wondered what motivates people to commit heinous crimes, this short fiction series from the author of The Waiting Room and Missing Girl is for you.

I thought this was a very good book. Luna is great!
I look forward to reading the series. Character development was good and I found myself caring about Tammy and what might happen to her. Good job!

Truth comes in small packages . This novella gives an introduction into Luna's life as she is thrust into a new career defending the underdog. Tammy kills her abusive husband and her lawyer, Luna's boss dies right before closing arguments. It's up to Luna to present her first ever closing arguments in a capital case. Can she muster up what it takes to save this woman? Well done on the writing and getting the reader to care about both Luna and her client in such a short space. The author gives a look at the woman's perspective as these women try to do their best to survive.

A good, clean story dealing with domestic abuse. This was a very short novel that left me wishing it contained more, and not quite ready to have it end. This story gives us just a glimpse into the twisted interactions, control, and perversion in homes (way too many) where there is domestic abuse; another one of those situations that cannot be understood unless you have lived it. Short, but well done. I recommend this book.
