The blurb for this sounded cute - A saucy librarian and her sexy plumber, what's not to like? Unfortunately it ended up falling flat for me. The MCs had very little chemistry that fizzled out early on and the humor was supposed to be silly and playful but missed its mark.
A few pipe jokes can be cute, a couple of sassy plumber related innuendos, sure why not? But after a while they get old and stop being cute/funny and just OTT and eye-roll inducing. Especially since practically all the dialogue between the MCs is through a variation of that or cheesy role playing lines. It didn’t support any real or lasting connection between them. I felt like if you took out the jokes and the games, these two wouldn’t have a whole lot in common outside the bedroom.
Although the sex is definitely adventurous, even that came off warm at best. When the chemistry is lacking in one area it tends to bleed over to others and it effects the overall story and that was the case for me here. There was a lot of potential and the writing was good but it was a lot happening at a fast pace and not enough page time to really explore any of it beyond the surface level.

Pretty good. A few issues. 3.5 Stars ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just had to read the story because of the name. I mean, let’s face it. Who wouldn’t read the story because the name is just so hilarious? We can only hope that the story matches and supports the name. And luckily it did.
This book has a lot of positives to it but it also has a few negatives.
On a positive note there is a lot of humor, sarcasm, fun, sexy encounters that actually blow you away. Plus, a little hot erotica too. It was a nice touch. The author was very descriptive and imaginative. I appreciated that as it made for an interesting story.
On the not so positive side, There was some real instances where the flow was just not there. It felt forced and almost a little immature.
The heroine bothered me as well off and on. In some spots she was very immature and I absolutely hate when a female lead automatically blames the guy for any issue. Some days I wish for a drama-free zone.
Is fast and easy read without a lot of extraneous build up and backstory. It is exactly what it is – a short erotic novella that will capture your attention for an hour or two. And that’s OK by me.
Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I picked this up because of the title, it is the little things and Kate Allure is a new to me author and I like to read a few a week if possible on the off chance of finding a gem.
I couldn't click with the authors writing style and felt that the plot itself was extremely fast paced, too fast. It moved so quickly you couldn’t connect with either character and the plot (so far) felt flimsy. Cheesy, cliche and a little OTT, there were too many eye rolls in too short space of time to continue.
Lexie has what some may consider a double life, but it's truly that in her day job as librarian she portrays a certain image, but outside of that she renovates her own house and devours kinky books. No man has ever come close to matching her book boyfriends, instead always falling short of fulfilling her desires. Well, that is until one laid a steamy kiss on her that could melt her Kindle if she read about it. Too bad she won't see him again.
Oh wait, she will, thanks to her pipe bursting at home. Joe is the emergency plumber she calls in desperation, neither know though until he shows up. After completing the repairs, it isn't long before the house call becomes so much more and Joe discovers how fun reading truly is, especially when he and Lexie act out certain scenes.
Will Joe and Lexie find more than either ever expected when Joe comes to her rescue? Is a HEA in their future?

Hysterical!! I cringe when I read the words cute in a review but this book was just so damn cute. Lexi the new girl comes to town as a librarian and has totally revamped and cleaned up the small town library. She's bought a lakeside home which she's been working on herself and wants to open a B&B. The library is usually quiet so Lexi passes the time reading some pretty heavy duty "romance" novels. On this day a mans voice interrupts her focused reading, she looks up and has to pinch herself the man is hot. Where did he come from, why hasn't she seen him before and how did he sneak by her? He needs help finding a book. He teases her about the subject matter. When she asks about why he needs the book, he explains he's a plumber and wants to expand and needs help writing a business plan to get a loan to expand his business. Later that night after spending hours into the late evening stripping wallpaper Lexi has no water. Not only no water but discovers a massive leak. Calling every plumber in the phone book, she gets no response except one. The answering service assures her that the plumber will be there that night. Who shows up? Joe, the plumber from the library. Out of character for her, she'd flirted with him earlier and he playfully went along. When he shows up, it's serious business, Lexi's got a bad leak and Joe stems the problem for the night promising he'll be back in the morning to further assess and get all the kinks worked out. Kinks. Yes indeed. Seriously these two made me laugh, the playful nature, the sex rolled off the pages and Joe was not a bashful man, and he made Lexi feel great about herself. I loved the playful, witty dialogue. It's a quick and easy read and so light hearted. What a refreshing change to have a fun, playful book with two perfect peas in a pod. I loved it

This was a cute book, I loved Lexie and Joe they had a sweet and hot chemistry. Lexie was a quirky librarian who loved to read romance novels and wanted to open up her own B&B. Joe was a ex military plumber who I would say fell for Lexie almost immediately. Their story was a good one with a lot of sexy times but I felt some of the descriptions of things were too much and maybe too long that it almost had me skimming. Overall this is a cute and quick read with very little turmoil between the characters but the sex scenes are hottttt.
ARC provided by NetGalley. I wanted to love this book but it didn’t click with me the way most books do. It was an okay read. I’m sure other people will love it but it wasn’t for me.
This one sounded good. When I started to read the first free pages, it was cute. And then something clicked, and it was also like porno cheesy. A little too much. Plumber fixing the pipes? I mean, it was a little over the top.
This was a fun, fast read. There’s plenty of risqué, tongue in check bantering between “Joe the Plummer” and “Lexie the Librarian,” and it put a permanent smile on my face and the fun continued through out story. My only criticism is I would have liked have seen more depth to the plot and their relationship. But apart from that, “Laying Pipe” was a great chance for a quick entertaining escape from your daily routine, and to put your feet up and enjoy some good clean, sexy, fun. Loved it!
Kate took a job as a librarian in a little ton and decided to change the house she bought into a bed and breakfast. Joe has lived in this town his whole life and a trip to he library shows him there is more to the books in in there. Their little flirtation will turn into so much more when her pipes go bad in her house and Joe is the plumber available. Not only is he laying the pipes in her house but also they are filling some pipes of their own. This book is fun and hot. It red fast and kept my interest from beginning to end.
** I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review**
I found this book while poking around on NetGalley and requested it immediately because Kate Allure is an author that I’ve heard about and in a few romance groups on Facebook. She was on my radar. I requested and was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
And, honestly, I really wanted to like this book. It had SUCH potential! Think about it – she’s a Librarian (a dream job!) in a small town. She’s new, shy, and a bit awkward. She’s also trying to renovate her house into a B&B so she can make ends meet and have a life in this new environment. A bit of a fish out of water trying to adjust to her new world. I get that, man. I’ve SOOO been there.
He’s a plumber, back from the Navy, and trying to build a business in the small town near where he grew up. He’s been elected to the City Council and trying to be more involved in the community. He goes to the library to get a book on business practices and meets the Librarian.
One thing leads to another and he gets called out to a plumbing emergency at her house. She can’t afford the repairs and they work out a bargain. Working together, overcoming obstacles, dealing with the town, it all leads to their HEA.
All of that sounds great, right? Right! It’s literally one of my hottest dreams, realized in book form. But, this is an erotica. And, to me, it was SO badly done, I just couldn’t help but cringe. Stylistically, I swear the author never read her work aloud, because the dialogue was so poorly done. She uses the word “abort” at least three times when “interrupted” would have been less jarring. There are SO MANY scenes where the author says what is happening or being felt, rather than showing us through dialogue, context clues, or using the characters senses. The kitchen table scene could have been amazing, but, alas…
Also, for being a librarian, the heroine also has a HORRIBLY unhealthy view of romance novels, considering she reads them. Repeatedly using the terms smut, pornographic, and filthy. Dude, for the author, NB: Don’t judge what YOU ARE TRYING TO SELL. The readers pick up and transfer feelings and will feel ashamed of what they’re reading. Ugh. No.
As for the subplot with the town zoning issue, it was OBVIOUSLY done to raise the stakes between Lexie and Joe and I found the resolution to be blah. I’d have LOVED to see Lexie use her research prowess to prove why or how that shouldn’t have been allowed, rather than the emotional tug and source of drama it wound up being.
Between Lexie talking about her pelvis a lot, the rapid head jumping from Lexie to Joe’s Points of View, the water analogies, and all the cheesy porno worthy plumber jokes. I was rolling my eyes. A lot. Add in magically appearing towels, a beach scene with odd physical actions (breathing, swimming, too many body parts), condoms for the first time or two that aren’t used the last few times, shower oral that would’ve ended in a real-world drowning, weather that jumps from being cold to hot to cold all in a day, and (GOOGLE THIS) a drilldo (not a typo!). Well…I just can’t even. As an erotica, I found this not even remotely sexy.
This was an okay, quick read. The writing flowed well, and the characters were good. This had A LOT of plumbing references though. It was funny the first couple of chapters, but then it got a little repetitive. Lexie was supposed to be this mousy librarian, and after one conversation with Joe, turns into this sex goddess. It was too much of a change too fast for me. Joe and Lexie were pretty good together, until the drama started. This was one of those instances were a conversation would have solved everything. They eventually work their problems out, and everything falls into place. There was a HEA. This was a first for me from this author, and I would read her again. I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I found this book a lot harder to get into than I imagined it would be. It has some extremely steamy scenes yet I found that it was more about just the sexual encounters and hardly any story. The dialogue was over kill and boring. It became a DNF for me.
Lexie Kosta runs a small town library during the day and is trying to rebuild her beach house at night to turn into a B&B. She loved reading especially bdsm books and that how the sexy man catches her. Joe Van Der Meer is completely taken with the hot librarian and they have such a connection minutes after meeting they share a scorching hot kiss. Lexie is so embarrassed but figured she'll never see him again. But when a pipe burst in her house the emergency plumber she calls ends up being Joe. They two discover ways to make plumbing and tools sexy. Scorching hot quick read. I'll definitely be reading this author again.
3.5 Stars Laying Pipe by Kate Allure is the story of Lexie Kosta and Joe Van der Meer. Lexie is a Librarian who is working toward opening a B&B. Lexie also likes to read Hot Romance novels in her spare time. Joe happens to come into the library to look for books toward business interest. They share a steam encounter thinking nothing more but then Lexie needs help with her plumbing. Which leads her to meet up with Joe again. This was a cute, easy hot read for sure.
I knew I wanted to read this book when I saw the cover! I love the name, Laying Pipe, and it just kept drawing me back, so I nabbed it! Boy am I glad I did! I loved this story! It is funny, sexy, and just so fun to read! I zipped through it fast because it was that engaging! Kate Allure has a way with her wording that made me feel. She's very descriptive without being overly wordy, and lets just say, lots of imagination! Add in a heavy dose of sexy erotica and gosh I would like to find a Joe the Plumber for myself!! So SEXY and HOT!!
I liked everything about Joe from the start! Hunky, smoldering, worker-be, and can turn alpha in a second! Sigh! He made me melt all over!! I liked how he was smitten with Lexie and how he was with her! Now Lexie was a bit harder. Very hard worker, and determined to make something of herself! She waivered back n forth a few times with her immature actions, but hey, we all have our insecurities I guess. It certainly didn't make me love the book any less! I loved their playful banter the most! Did I say how much fun this is to read????
This is the perfect playful romp you've been looking for! I think you need to pick this little gem up now!
A quick and hot read that will get you in the mood for a little fun. There is quite a bit tongue in cheek references along with playful banter between Joe and Lexie. For me, this book had a little too much sexiness in it. I would have lived a little more story. But it is definitely good if you are looking for a hot and dirty, quick escape from everyday life.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
Kate Allure had some really cute ideas in this tale of librarian meets plumber, the title "Laying Pipes" was smart and eye catching. Unfortunately for me it just ended up as an ok read. It seemed unrealistic that Lexie would go from quiet mousy librarian overnight to a sexy confidant siren. Joe too just missed the mark for me. While the plumbing play on words were cute at the start after awhile it just got repetitive. While I thought that their experimenting with BDSM added some sizzle to the story, the fact that at one point she had no way to indicate distress is a major blunder and a danger to a reading public that may not know better. While a little dissapointed in this book, I look forward to seeing what the author writes next. I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. My first by this author, nice cover, and blurb but let's face it....it's the title that gets you.
Lexie is a small town librarian by day and renovating her beach house for a bed and breakfast by night. While reading a erotic BDSM book at the library she's approached by the hottest man and is instantly attracted. Joe is just at the library to get a book but that's not all he checks out. I thought the story was pretty good but it was a bit outlandish in places with the sexual humor and innuendos. Drama was kept to a minimum and the characters were very likable. I felt if there had been more control with the sexual overtones then I could have rated this book far more. So three stars for entertainment. It's a quick, light and fluffy read.
Laying Pipe is quite upfront about the fact that it's going to be a pun-heavy trashy romance novel, and it delivers on those expectations.
I really liked Lexie and Joe as a couple, and as long as you're willing to lean in to the punnyness and roll your eyes occasionally, this is an enjoyable romantic comedy featuring a librarian and a plumber. Lexie and Joe have internal relationship struggles, but there's also an external source of drama, and I appreciated the balance. The we're-exploring-BDSM elements of the story were mostly cute, but I did get tired of all the "oh heavens, I'm such a dirty person!" lines of thought, mostly from Lexie.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Lexie is the librarian of the small town of Blue Haven and she moved there only six months ago. She bought a cottage by the lake which she tries to renovate and run it as B&B. One day she is working on the library where things are slow and she passes her time reading kinky BSDM romance novels when she meets Joe who came by searching for books on business to help him make on his own a business plan. They tease each other and they end up exchanging a too hot kiss.
Later that night Lexie will end up facing a problem with her plumping system at home and in her search for plumper the only available willing to pass by her house to check the issue will be Joe. Where once again they will experience how much chemistry there is between them. The story progress in a fast pace and the couple gets into trying out some of the kinky stuff Lexie is reading, while trying to face together their targets and small town competitiveness.
A fun easy going story with soft kinky touches. The author really tried to make realistic the story and the couple's attempt to experiment on kinky plays.
Laying Pipe was a fast paced romance between a librarian in a small town and a sexy man named Joe. They meet in the library and they have instant chemistry. They had a steamy encounter and never thought they would see each other again...but they did.
Lexie and Joe explore the world of BDSM..just like she reads in her books..and begin to develop feelings along the way. It's a quick read and has its moments with its humor and wit.
When I first started this book I almost stopped, I was just going to say " it was kinda like a porno " but I'm so glad I stuck it out!! I really enjoyed it!! The story broke through! It was an excellent storyline!! They didn't really get into the nitty gritty right away either! I loved both characters, it was a light, fun, sdxy, hot hot read!! I definitely recommend reading this book! Stick with it I guarantee you'll love it too!! Lol thank you NetGalley and entangled publishers for sharing this book with me!
Laying pipe is Joe and Lexies story. Both are working hard towards their dreams and their businesses. When a burst pipe brings Joe to the rescue. A little more pleasure happens than business. These two push each others buttons and discovering naughty games becomes a constant between them.
It's not all sex, both are trying to be successful business owners but when the set in their ways leaders of town want to make changes... these two will have a fight on their hands. Will they make it through unscathed?
It was good and quick read. The story and development between the two could have been a little bit more but all in all it was okay.
Lexie Kosta is the newly hired small beach town librarian. She's working tirelessly to get her B&B in shape after purchasing the run down cottage on the lake. And she isn't your normal prim and proper librarian, underneath she longs for the passion and the kink she reads in her BDSM fantasy books. Joe Van der Meer is looking to expand his business and a simple trip to the library has garnered much more than a book. He stumbles upon Lexie as she's reading and it definitely gives him ideas. When an emergency throws them back together the chemistry is hot enough to boil water But do they both have the same goals in mind or is it just a way to get some kinky times in the bargain?
This started out as a playful and amusing romp, but it quickly spun out of control. The constant sexual innuendo became too much for me - I get it, he’s a plumber, he needs to service her pipes - and the play acting in the sex scenes was just over the top. There was also a fair amount of the story telling the reader what was happening instead of actually playing scenes out. DNF 70%
Oh man, it sounded good but I just couldn’t finish this one. It took me days to get this far. It was getting really silly with a heavy side of cheesy. My rolling eyeballs almost feel out of my head. I tried to give it a fair shake but I’m sorry, this one was so not for me.
