It was a long time ago, but I don’t remember anything at all in my junior high Oklahoma history textbook about events like the Seminole burning, the Osage murders, Greenwood burning, or the atrocities of the ‘guardians’ who preyed on innocent Indian children and families to steal their allotments. I guess we had the sanitized version of Oklahoma history back then. One of the things I like about Dorman’s book is his extensive bibliography. I plan to use it to read more about some of these dark times in our state’s history.
