Avonlea, the maritime community made famous in the story Anne of Green Gables, has been brought back to TV on The Road to Avonlea, based on the novels by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This beautiful album contains color photographs of the people and landscape of Avonlea matched with actual text by the author.
I love all eight Anne books, the Emily trilogy, Pat and Jane and Kilmeny and the stories of Sara and her cousins....okay I love everything I've ever read by L.M. Montgomery.
I also adore the Road to Avonlea series and have fond memories of sitting down with my family to watch a new episode each week.
However, I thought this book poorly written/captioned. The pictures, of course, are beautiful and sure to invite nostalgia for all who have seen the show, but that which was written leaves, in my opinion, much to be desired.
The writing seemed to me completely unorganized, and I'm sure anyone not familiar with the show would be completely lost.
I'm glad I read it once, but I wouldn't go out and buy it.
The Photographs in this book set the stage for books by Lucy Maud Montgomery, first made famous by Anne of Green Gables and continued with The Story Girl, The Golden Road, Chronicles of Avonlea, and Further Chronicles of Avonlea. One of my favorite characters is Aunt Hetty, school mistress She "was one of those people who always spoke decisively. If she announced she was going to peel potatoes for dinner, listeners would know there is no possible escape for the potatoes." This book may convince you to read all of Montgomery's books starting with Anne of Green Gables.
If you know me well, you know I love Anne. This isn't Anne, this is Sara...but still. Many people may not find this book exceptional, but I do. I love the series show Road to Avonlea. This album contains pictures of one of my favorite places, that I have never been to. I believe this part of Canada is exceptionally beautiful. If I could travel somewhere frivolously one day, this would be it.
I found this in a small library, and I'm sure it's almost impossible to find in print now. It's a sweet little album book for the tv show I adored as a child. Very short, though.
"Shannon Christmas 1993." I couldn't get into the regular LM Montgomery books, but I LOVED Road to Avonlea. I never watched the TV show, so this album was perfect for me.
