A woman from the present day will do anything to escape the ordeal of medieval Scotland. But will she betray the man she loves?
Lily Stover can no longer cope. Nothing in her previous life as a chef could have prepared her for her grim new reality. Starvation, beatings, and daily terror are her routines. The only flicker of hope is the memory of the massive warrior who once fought to free her. She can still see his golden eyes glaring into hers.
War Master Caderyn can no longer sleep. His dreams are haunted by the lovely lass whose face silently pleads to him for help. His patrols range further and further, driven by that vision. But when he finally finds her stumbling through the forest, he embraces a future that is not what it seems.
Hazel and her husband stopped being separate people years ago. They live their happy life in the always crowded, mostly sunny, and sometimes sweltering city of LA. Though they haven’t managed it yet, plans are afoot to add a kitty to the household, thereby giving the allergist fits.
Hazel has been writing full-time for several years, with some traditionally published work in other genres. But it’s her indie-published romance that fuels the creative fire. It turns out writing isn’t a job, it’s an obsession.
When you can pry Hazel’s fingers from the laptop, you’ll find her: on the elliptical watching a documentary, indulging her audiobook habit, or spending quality time with Candy Crush. Although she’s vegan, she’s a disaster in the kitchen. Luckily, potato chips and pinot noir come ready-made.
While I loved the original Immortal Highlander books this spin-off has not entertained me as much. It has numerous subplots, populated with people who don't like anyone but their own clan mostly and the level of betrayal is about to go off the charts it would seem with the next book.
While I don't especially want rainbows and unicorns, I do have a level at which I additional "things" cease to add to the depth of a story and this series seems that in addition to the obviously mental cases that are the "bad guys" we have at least one or two more with scrambled brains that are being used for plots and subplots.
I would have been happy if we would have concentrated on the guys that have killed hundreds of innocent people but apparently that is not enough and we are adding a few backstabbers and mental cases to the mix (since we did not have enough horrid people already).
I enjoyed this book but did do a good bit of scanning, the interplay between the H and h was good but a good bit of what happened outside of that relationship did not add to my enjoyment that much. However sticking to the review of this book and not the dread I see coming in the future I will give this one a 3.5 rounded to 4. Hopefully I am wrong about this direction but looks pretty sure that violent mentally disturbed backstabbing characters are being added to the violent mentally disturbed characters we already have and that just does not give me any excitement for the next book. I love revenge, violence, action and sex in measures that don't turn a story into erotica but this series is pushing my boundaries on a couple of those and betrayal has never been high on my list.
There was so much going on in this book and points of view from so many characters that I don't think I got a good feel for the two main protagonists. Their romance seemed to take a back seat to all the other things going on in the story. It was all very interesting but the romance did suffer a bit.
Lily Stover was abducted from our time and taken back to medieval Scotland by two crazy druids and some tree creatures formed as humans. She and four other women were abducted, beaten and fed only when someone remembered to feed them.
The women have druid ancestry which enables them to travel through ancient oak groves. The crazy male druid makes a deal with Lily that he would make sure the other women were cared for better if Lily travels through the nearby oak grove to find the woman who escaped and the Scaraven Clan with whom she resides.
Cadeyrn is the war master of the Scaraven Clan. They are immortal warriors and the only ones who can fight the famhairean, the psycho tree creatures who are devoted to the crazy druid couple. Cadeyrn dreamed of Lily even before he met her but all affection for her flees when she tricks him and he is captured by the famhairean and the crazy druids.
This book kept me glued to it except during the sex scenes. This author has the strangest sex scenes that I've ever read, and I have read thousands. I just skim over the weird parts and hope I don't miss anything vital to the story.
The plot is getting more complex and I can't wait to see what will happen next.
By Hazel Hunter (Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven Book 2): A Scottish Time Travel Romance
Lily Stover can no longer take it. Nothing in her previous life as a chef could have come close to preparing her for the grim reality she's stuck in now. Now her daily routines include starvation, beatings, and other terrors. She has only one flicker of hope that she desperately holds onto and that is the memory of the massive warrior who once fought to free her. She can still see his golden eyes glaring into hers.
Cadeyrn is the clans war master with a problem. He can no longer sleep because his dreams are haunted by the lovely lass whose face silently pleads for him to help her. His patrols range further and take longer then usual as he is driven by her vision. Then all of a sudden he finds her stumbling through the forest and he embraces an uncertain future that is not what it seems.
This book was great. Hazel Hunter has such a talent for blending the past with the future. The story just flows along as it goes and thankfully some justice is finally served however Ms. Hunter has finished the story in a way that has me craving for more. You can bet I'm starting the next book right now. Well done Ms. Hunter.
I loved this book, the plot is still the same than in both immortals series, rescue the lasses from the future. But for once, the storyline drives us to a sole warrior, Cadeyrn, fooled by Lily to follow her in the bad guys net. The author did a great job with these two characters, they are strong but yet damaged by their past issues, together they will have to learn to trust each other to be able to move on. Lily is a kind woman who went through a lot but she still has faith in human kind, she does what she has to but always by seing the good side of her actions, even if it could cost her a lot. Cadeyrn, even furious and hurt by Lily, can’t let her to her fate in the arms of the inhuman famhair and their crazy druids. He had his truth broken too many time but he is also a gentle being despite why he was breed and raised. Together they are a great team. We learn a little about the other three women, each one with a different personality. The storyline is a little confusing as some more plots were added to the main one, but I’m already eager to see what is waiting on the way for the two healers. A very good second addition to this already great series.
Hazel Hunter continues her Immortal Highlander and Skaraven series with the story the clan's war master and the English sous chef. The story of the abduction of 5 women by 2 insane druids continues with the tale of Caderyn and Lily whose relationship starts out with dreams and lies but turns into a passion and love to last an immortal lifetime.
Lily Stover has finally freed herself from an abusive father and is working as a sous chef on a cruise ship when on shore leave she is aducted by a giant of a man and taken to medievil Scotland where her abuse starts all over again but this time she has the company of 3 other women. Wth the help of one of her fellow captives they come up with a plan for rescue. It's up to Lily to bring back help and the only person she can think of to help her is the man she saw when se was captured. Caderyn Skaraven can't sleep because of his dreams of a woman he wonders if he actually saw or not since it was about the time he was reawakened from death with his fellow clans men. Since he can't sleep he goes for a ride and finds the woman of his dreams. Caderyn knows she's lying to him but he still goes with her to help only to be thrown through a portal and held captive by the same insane druids who are holding Lily and her fellow captives. Thinking she's played him false after over hearing a conversation of Lily's he confronts her and decides to help her and the others escape. A plan is made and carried out taking the 5 of them on a run for thier lives. Caderyn and Lily become closer and she reveals her past and he reveals his immortality. A confrontation takes place at a pond with the guards that work for the druids and information is revealed how to fight them. Caderyn takes the women to Dun Mor the clan's home and returns to the fight destroyng the main threat to Lily. Lily used her specail power and now is unconscious with a stroke. The clan shaman and Lily's friend try to save her life. Caderyn comes home and takes her to his room where he uses a specail ring that the Skaraven have to hopefully save Lily. It works and they declare their love for each other. It's revealed that one of the other women is a dead ringer for an ally and should be sent back to her time. Meanwhile the druid Bhaltair Flen is trying to find a way along with his acolyte to stop the 2 druids who want to take over the world. He is taken to the old Wood Dream village and to the hiding place of the rest of his group. He is told to bring the leader's son to him to that he can be a slave and death, refuses and goes to a meeting with his watcher in the Skaraven clan. Who has been keeping his betrayal a secret but he's wanting to be released from his commitment of watcher. The acolyte shows up and makes her feelings known to the shaman of the Skaraven clan. Flen shows her that being mad at the Skaraven isn't benefical to them and stopping the bad druids. A surprise awaits Flen in the fututre.
The second book in the Skaraven series was suspenseful, full of intrigue and kept me wondering if they would escape their captors and would Lily and Cade find the love and life they both were wanting with each other. Also I was suprised by the end of the book and am looking forward to seeing what happens to everyone one in the next in the series. I can't wait to see the next book and which woman gets her Immortal Highlander.
This one tops Brennus, if that's possible. Once again Hazel Hunter does an outstanding job of world-building. She obviously spends many hours researching the setting and time period. She becomes familiar with patterns of behavior, customs, dress, speech, relationships, beliefs, etc. All of this shows in this outstanding second installment of the saga. The action is rapid-fire with hardly a break for even romance.
Everyone has a past. Both Lily Stover and Cadeyrn had traumatic pasts. Lily now has a hard time trusting any man. Cadeyrn never had an opportunity to get to even speak to a woman before Althea arrived at Dun Mor stronghold to be Brennus's wife. He is the Skaraven's clan's war master. The one most responsible for mapping out war strategies. Lily was taken from the 21st century and brought back to 14th century Scotland with 4 other young women of druid heritage. They both must learn to trust each other and work together. There are some mythical evil beasts and protective mascots, too. Two very wicked villains. The Skaravens detest both the Picts (Pritani) and the druids as they enslaved them over a thousand years ago, and now brought them back, to once again save them. NO DICE! Brennus will not even speak to Bhaltair Flen the elder statesman among his druid clan, nor let him come to Dun Mor. Almost the entire clan feels the same. Although at the end of the book we have a HEA for Cadeyrn and Lily, there are many mysteries and villains yet to solve, as well as perhaps more than one romance with the remaining 3 young women.
The issues that seemed most important to me as I read was how they were going to survive, let alone thrive in that time and with what was going on with the two major villains. The Skaraven Chieftain soon realizes that Cadeyrn is missing, but finding him proves a definite challenge. How can the women escape when they are not located together and there are multiple guards on their doors.
If you like historical Scottish novels with a bit of imaginative aspects and edge of your seat action. Get this one! 5 stars from me! Can't wait for the next book in the saga.
***** Engrossing, Adventurous & Brilliant ***** Cadeyrn is a riveting tale, a Scottish time-travel romance adventure that captivates the readers/listeners from the very start. I was wholly immersed by the alluring world of the Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven. The storyline is entertaining, loaded with unexpected twists, turns, suspense, romance, betrayal, and intrigue.
Hazel Hunter is an exceptional author with an incredible imagination. She has created a fantastic world with brave heroes and heroines defying impossible odds. The characters are compelling, clever, and wholly intriguing. As the series moves ahead, we get to learn more about the protagonists and their pasts. Additional antagonists show themselves, and they are ruthless, cunning, pitiless, and vengeful. I can't wait to find out what direction Ms Hunter will take next.
The main characters, Cadeyrn and Lily, have a charged connection, one of passion and mutual desire. I adore them together. There are no unnecessary drams and silly miscommunication. The intimacy between them is well-written and sensual.
The narration by William Macleod is beyond outstanding. He is an exceptionally talented narrator who hones on the characters' personalities, bringing them to life. His telling will sweep you away and draw you into this story. I can't wait to hear the rest of the series!
What can you say about a series of books that leads with the cover illustration of a gorgeous kilt-clad male body holding a weapon. That it's going to have some fighting? There will be plenty of action? And,of course, there will be a female character to drool over that hunk of man! This is the curse of the modern romance tale, even if it is set in an era that ended a thousand years ago.
And there's a reason all the Skaraven clan's members are wearing the tartans of other, differing clans. And it's not just because the colorful covers are attractive, although they are that.
But what you can't see on the cover is that the main character, Cadeyrn, is the brains of the outfit. Oh, sure, Brennus is the clan chief, but he readily accedes to Cadeyrn's advice in all things strategic. The character is calm, confident and ultimately triumphant.
I don't know--would you really want to be mated with a man who can do no wrong? Or does he make a few mistakes along the way?
Time travel with a twist, neither the hero or heroine are in their correct time period. Though I think the time travel has a more profound effect on the females. The detailed world building evident in Brennus, continues in Cadeyrn's story. Lily Stover has endured and finally left behind a lifetime of abuse by her father. Now she finds herself transported to medieval times to endure even more horrific abuse. She and the remaining three women are desperate to escape though their prospects seem dire. Cadeyrn can't believe his eyes when Lily stumbles through the portal. They will have to give their all to escape the schemes of the mad Murdina and diabolical Hendry, and their minions. Cade and Lily were made for each other, the chemistry between these damaged souls was phenomanal. I enjoyed all the elements that were woven together so effortlessly. I can't wait for the next story.
Lily was kidnapped with four (4) other women, by giants. They were taken back in time to Scotland. Lily, and the other women were beaten, starved, and abused. These women are Druidesses, and they each have different powers. An elder couple of Druids want to use these women. Lily recalls a highlander with yellow eyes watching her be kidnapped. Cadeyrn can not forget Lily, and searches for her. This book is well written with Druids, magic, battles, highlanders, and romance. The narrator did an excellent job of bring the characters to life. His clear, smooth voice makes listening to this audio book a delight! Is Lily Cadeyrn's soul mate? Will he save the ladies? Will the elder Druids be punished? You need to read the books in order to follow the story line. I highly recommend this book!
"Hardship and evil can take all from you. But your belief in yourself? That you must give."- Cadeyrn
This story continues from the point where "Brennus" ended. Caderyn continues to dream of Lily's capture from the 21st century. Is it possible for her to still be alive? What of the other women? Lily has a plan that she hopes will save her and the other women. Remembering the face of her warrior gives her strength to see the plan through. This story contains a lot of twists, turns, lies and feelings of guilt. I started this story with the intention of reading a few chapters before bedtime....three hours later "the end". I just couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next story.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing*
Lily stove has been taken from her time and brought back to the fourteen century Scotland. Along with a rew other women timeline a nurse and the Thomas sisters Perrin, a dancer and Rowan. They were taken by crazy druids hendry greum, murdine stroud and and his evil wooden people the famharrean. The women have been beaten, starved and abused. Cadeyrn skaraven had died long ago fighting evil 12 centuries ago and brought back to fight the same evil. He is the clans war master. Since being brought back to life he has dreams of lily death. Oh wow what a great story. I love the time travel storyline, druid, skaraven, magic, drama, betrayal and more. The characters are awesome I couldn't put it down. This 4ealy is an excellent story. Voluntarily reviewed a copy and I honestly loved it.
Lili had been obsessing over the Highlander who tried to save her when her kidnappers move her. Cadeyrn has been having the same dream nightly about Lili's capture. Lili takes Cadeyrn back to the mill with her when Hendry sends her to find Althea. This book shows Cadeyrn and the four women's journey to escape from the giant treemen. The ending is very interesting. It leads us along a new path of deceit. It also leads us into the next story about Ruari and Emaline. These stories seem deeper than the previous Immortal Highlander series. If you like books about time travel, druid magic or highlanders than this book is for you.
Such an exciting story. Cade had a vision of Lily before she is forcibly taken from her time. He plays a big part in the rescue of Althea and the attempted rescue of the other four women. He would do anything to be able to save the other prisoners and when Althea arrives at the edge of the lake, he is thrilled. What follows though, creates some animosity between the two and sets in place a situation that is not what it seems. Lily had been suffered abuse from her father and is now enduring the same from Coig, even though Hendry as forbidden this. I loved the twists in this story and highly recommend this series to time travel lovers everywhere.
Cadeyrn (Immortal Highlander, Clan Skaraven Book 2): A Scottish Time Travel Romance (Volume 2) by Hazel Hunter. Another fantastic read by Hazel! I enjoyed all her books and this second of the Clan Skaraven; is another page-turner. I couldn't put it down! Cadeyn and Lily's love story is a well-written read with great storyline and plot. Full of excitement, adventure, and action. No cliffhangers and an HEA! I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest opinion. Don't miss this one or any of the Immortal Highlander series!
I love these books because the emotions evoked by these women being yanked back in time are so natural and believable & each of the stories is unique and entertaining. Cadeyrn is no exception. Lily and the other women have been to hell & back but the men of that time were not expecting the strength & resilience of Lily. Cadeyrn was attracted to Lily & wanted to save her the first time he met her but was too late. When they reunite things are not destined to be plain sailing, especially with the emotional baggage that each one is carrying, not to mention the external forces at work.
Time travel is so interesting and fun, just like this book. Two strangers trying to defeat an ancient enemy. She is from the future and he is from the past, in a time neither of them know. Fate gets involved, and magic seals their fate. The characters are well written and suit this action packed plot. It's hard to put down, you just want to know what will happen next. Looking forward to book 3.
Once again Hazel Hunter out did herself in her writing. Cadeyrn is a great book filled with lots of action packed scenes and confusion for the warmaker. You really need to read it to know what I am talking about. We travel back in time from the present and wrap our minds and imaginations in this wonderful world alongside the characters. Loved every minute of it and look forward to more.
I voluntarily received an ARC copy of this book for review.
We're off on another journey in old Scotland, so we get highlanders & time travel, what a great combination. Our women have been stolen & drug back to be used by an evil pair of druids. As the overall storyline plays out, another one weaves inside it. Cadeyrn is tricked by Lily to come back to camp & save the women held captive. What we have is a rousing tale of action & suspense as our highlanders deal with their foes.
Lily was abused before she escaped from her father to serve as a chef on a cruiseship. She is taken to 14th century Scotland with 4 other modern women with Druid blood. They are held captive to serve Hendry Grenn and his wife Murdina Stroud who seek revenge upon Balthair Flen for what they consider crimes against their kin.
Cadeym (Immortals Highlander, Clan Skaraven Book 2
The love story of Cadeym and Lily. Cadeym is the war Master of the Clan Skaraven, all his life he stay apart from everyone to make him a better warrior. Lily has been abuse by her father and now she is being abuse by her captors. Lily make a deal with them to feed the other women of she find the Skaraven 's stronghold but she is brought back to them with Cadeym. Can Lily and Cadeym save all of them? Great story.
This is another great time travel romance. Cade and Lily have a difficult journey to being together. It is an exciting storyline with lots of action and adventure. They have some tough choices to make. It is well written and has a very good storyline.
This is another of HH’s fascinating stories. This Series includes romance, time travel, the wonders of Scotland, druids, and could she leave out supernatural beings? The war between good and evil rages on as treachery also shows it’s ugly head. Enemies of the not distant past overcome distrust of each other and join forces.
At first I was a bit confused, but the more I read the more I understood. This is the start of a new adventure and more new books by this imaginative author. I cannot wait to read her next book but I have no Choice if you like imaginative read with fabulous characters and romantically loving sex, you can’t miss this book
Another winner by Hazel Hunter. I love her time travel books that always include hot highlanders that will go above and beyond and intrepid women that kick butt without waiting to be saved. Throw in Druids, good vs evil and a hot romance. This does work as a stand-alone but why would you want to miss the other stories in the series?
I really enjoy this series and this book in particular. Lily is amazingly resilient and gifted. Between her being able to manipulate things with her mind to Cade traveling by water this is a magical read. The ending really shocked me. Who would have thought of Oriana that way?
I absolutely loved Lily and Cade's story. This series just gets more intriguing as the books come out. All these sexy highlanders have me hooked. I can't wait for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Hazel Hunter's female characters are strong feisty women. None of them sit around waiting to be rescued. They can take care of themselves, which is just one of the many reasons I love her books.
