Steaming Volume One: King Paul's Big, Nasty Unofficial Book of Reactor and Engineering Memories

Rate this book
Gather ’round, my fellow tars and pour yourself a drink (preferably a San Miguel). What you’re about to read is the largest collection of sea stories ever gathered in one place. Best of all, these stories come from fellow USS Enterprise nukes and engineers. No one can deny that the Big E was the greatest warship ever built, and that the guys who gave her her steam were the best nukes and engineers in the fleet. We were also pretty darn funny. In fact, our sense of humor was legendary. It was the one thing that helped get us through it all. More than just sea stories, these are the tales of our youth, the recollections of life-long friends, and random memories of strange people and faraway places.

WOW! Many of the "Sea Stories" from my time in the Nuclear Power Navy have been collected into one place. Reading this brings back so many names and memories from those long ago years. An excellent read for anyone that served in the nuclear navy but especially those that served on the Big E (USS Enterprise). Very recommended

I remember reading the stories on the original website from which these stories were collected. I enjoyed them then, and I enjoy them now in book form. The unique culture of the naval nuclear community is an interesting beast, where intelligent engineers isolated from the rest of the world, sometimes for months at a stretch, have to deal with the stress of shipboard life while maintaining reactor safety. The stories held within these pages show how that stress is dealt with.

It's the same everywhere!

Loved the sea stories! The life and times on the Big E were nearly identical to nukes on other ships. Do not show these to potential recruits! They may try to relive some of the experiences here.
