The Healing Powers of Superfoods is more of a reference book than a cookbook although you will find quite a few recipes to indulge yourself in during each chapter and a whole chapter of recipes before the end of the book.
Cal Orey takes you through each superfood per chapter and she dives right into each nutrient, history etc of that certain superfood and before the chapter ends she gives you a recipe or two.

You will also find chapters for shelving life of foods, five-day menu plan, and much more. If you are looking for a book to help you figure out what superfood is best for you, this book will do the trick.

There has been new progress with superfoods over the past couple of years and I believe Cal Orey gives you an updated superfood reference book.

My interest was piqued with the word Superfoods, what are they, where can I find them, and what would they do for me? All of these questions and more were answered in a precise and simple way. Part reference book, part cookbook. Very enjoyable and informative. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Thank you Kensington Books and Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

Over the years I have picked up many books on healthy eating so I was enticed to this book to teach me new healthful facts and ways to improve our diet.

This book would suit a reader who is looking for a information on different foods how they can play a role in our diet.

I was hoping for a book with glossy, bright photographs of food, new or updated facts on the most relevant superfoods and how they can be used to heal. I was disappointed as this book did not do this. There were no photographs of the super foods, there were recipes and a few diagrams but the majority of the book was bogged down in written text.

The author is a health food writer rather than a medical professional, which for me was a detractor given the book was so heavily based on health, healing and nutrition. Unfortunately I did not complete this book as it offered nothing new or enticing in the pages that I read.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book in return for my honest opinion.

It's in informative book. The author picks up on many superfoods that are at daily reach and gives lots of good, useful informations. I have read several similar books by now, and very often authors jump on the "this is God's answer to endless health" wagon which is way too much for my liking. Cal Orey presents the food simple and with what positive properties each one undoubtfully has and what they can be good for. The book also contains some recipes of how to use the superfoods with sense and taste, again with no hocuspocus.
I think it's a book to get, read, keep on the shelves and re-read parts when need comes up. I can see lots of interested readers for this one if the expectation is adaequate for what superfood can do, or can't.

I was sent a copy of this book via NetGalley and Citadel Publishing and have decided to leave an honest review.
I have been eating super foods all my life even before the Super Food revolution began. This book is chock a block full of all good pieces of information that many would devour with gusto. Each super food listed has a history of, Storage information and a lovely recipe to follow so as to enjoy the Fruit or Vegetable or the grain. I found that the lack of illustrations was disappointing but the information and opinions of the author where gold.
I would recommend this book for all readers who wish to know some valuable information for a healthy life style.

There is no official list of superfoods, and this book includes some that might surprise you -- potatoes and pizza, for example. For each superfood, there's a chapter with information about its nutritional value and ideas for getting more of it into your diet.

There are some recipes, but don't think of this as a cookbook. It's more about encouraging healthy eating.

Nothing beats compendium of healing superfoods that we tend to forget or doubt its benefits. Updated with the contemporary superfoods at the point of writing. Great reference to construct nutritious meal plan.
