Between Two Packs

Rate this book
After returning to her hometown, 22-year-old Kayla discovers that her father was a leader of werewolves – and as his only descendant, she is expected not only to become head of the pack, but also help them survive in a war with a pack from a nearby town. Kayla has to accept that the world isn’t as it seems and she needs to adapt to new circumstances and challenges very quickly. During her attempt to negotiate a truce, she becomes a hostage of her father’s sworn enemy, Adam Harper. However instead of the hatred that they are supposed to feel, Kayla and Adam have very warm feelings towards each other that transform into something bigger. Kayla may be forced to choose between the survival of her pack and her feelings for the man who stole her heart.

Trigger warning? Nope. FMC dad dies on page from a heart attack. FMC’s mother passed away before the book started. MMC’s parents are both dead (happened before the book started).

Safety?
No OW/OM. No suggested OW/OM.
No sex scenes.

My thoughts?
This was an extremely quick read. Like I’m talking I read this within an hour because it’s only 144 pages.
It was lite on the details, and I would have definitely loved more. The “love story” aspect of this was also extremely lite. They meet early on in the book, but then don’t see each other again until like chapter 10? There are only 14 chapters and a epilogue. The epilogue is only a month out. This is the shakiest HFN ending I’ve ever read. They haven’t moved in with each other. There were no details of her future (what about New York??? What about the jobs???) and how that will match up with the MMCs (he’s literally the pack alpha of a town..HE CANT LEAVE???).
I will say the detail that they flash bright light while shifting into wolves was interesting.

This was a very TYPICAL werewolf love story, which is not my cup of tea. I don't like when this is done improperly. When a typical storyline is presented, there needs to be great characterization, a thorough buildup of character to character relationships, and other points of interest or side plots. I have yet to see a totally typical plot stand on its own and be a quality novel. I was disappointed. HOWEVER, if you're new to the fantasy or werewolf shifter genre, the plot may be a newer experience for you. You may require less stimulation. It's just that I've seen this same plot several times before, all done well and thoroughly. I did think the last line did well to seal the mood of the book; however.

Boring.

1. Too many gaps in the story without clear transitions that might have clarified things.

2. Abrupt change of heart by both MC's. Who falls in love in one week?

3. How Adam overcame and killed three enforcers and another alpha. (Even with Kayla's help)

4. Extremely boring.

Cute werewolf novella

Not the longest read, but it’s short and sweet. Clean romance, ok plot, something to read in between a series or two.

Not enough depth

Short and very sweet... In my opinion there was not enough depth to the story or to the characters. It was a quick story but it could have been so much more. Everything happened super quick especially the insta love.

Enjoyed! Not sure what all the hate was about. This was a fun shifter read and I love how the dynamics changed as the story progresses. It was interesting, romantic, full of shifters and an overall good read. Five glittery stars!

Short sweet

It's short and sweet and for a young reader. I wouldn't buy it. It took me half hour to read. Thanks KU. The writing is decent
