Nobody expected the oceans to bleed. Nobody expected the sky to fall. Trapped in a coma for three years, Professor Charles Grader lay helpless, tormented by terrors that haunted his fractured and sleeping mind. Unable to scream, unable to flee, he could only endure the visions of the apocalypse, the Seven Plagues promised to mankind by the Revelations of Saint John the Baptist. Now awake from that coma, Charles finds himself visited in the dead of night by a mysterious stranger. What she tells him threatens to shatter his world. The prophecy of the plagues is real and is about to come to pass. “Professor, tell me about your dreams”… With the forces of darkness threatening to unleash Hell upon the Earth, Charles must make a choice. Flee to the mysterious sanctuary promised by this nocturnal Angel? Or ignore the signs and suffer the fate of humanity as the seals to the Gates of Hell begin to break? Who will survive as the Seven Plagues are unleashed upon an unsuspecting Earth?
Are you ready for a play by play of the end of the world? Then grab this book because that is exactly what you're going to get. The Defiled is a story that branches off and follows many different characters. Like an ebb and flow of the tide, this story comes and goes in interest. But trust me, when it's interesting it's INTERESTING and you can't turn away. When it lulls you may drift off, but the author keeps you engaged just enough to keep going. A shadow organization has been working in the background for years. They have been setting up the dominos to topple the world, break open the seals and bring down Hell on Earth. Their goal is to bring forth the end of the world. A man worth billions of dollars is at the helm of it all, orchestrating the means of bringing forth a chip to be implemented by all the world one by one. It will happen in stages, but happen it will. This man, Victor, is ruthless. Has been all his life, and he won't stop until he's forced to. The supernatural aspect of this story is truly engaging. I like how certain aspects of the supernatural elements truly hinges on the actions of humanity and the people who are put in place to bring about the end. I will warn that it takes a bit to get what you have read in the blurb, but it's build up and it's worth it as the author lays the groundwork. I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more stories from this author. Be forewarned! There is a lot of violence in this story. So if you are not someone who enjoys that then I don't recommend this book to you.
I looked up the word defiled because I wanted to find its exact meaning. According to "Merriam-Webster", it means: a. To corrupt; b. To violate; c. To make physically unclean; d. To violate the sanctity of.
This book starts out as speculative religious fiction, with a professor receiving a copy of a previously unknown version of Revelations. He doesn't know who sent it or why, but he starts to find some discrepancies as he translates it. Then he falls into a coma for three years after being injured in an explosion meant to kill him. The professor is "Chosen", but we don't know for what. He is protected by a Guardian. The Guardians have existed for a thousand years; their sole purpose is to protect those chosen and ensure the purity of the human species. Purpose: Unknown, but the Chosen and the Guardians seem to be on the side of good.
On the other side is Apollyon Corporation. "Apollyon" is the name of the angel in the bottomless pit in Revelations, i.e., Satan. Its mission seems to be to break the seals necessary for the apocalypse to begin so that Satan can be ushered in as King. And it does just that. Or does it?
As another reviewer wrote, don't ever get an implant for any reason the government might give you. Just don't.
The seals do start to break and the world is thrown into chaos, violence, and death on a scale never seen before. I felt sickened and helpless as I read the descriptions of the catastrophes because it seemed to hit very close to home. The world is a very dangerous place right now and it is not difficult to imagine these things coming to pass. It was very disturbing. I actually felt a little sick. Some of the ways people die...
Ultimately, though, this book is about defilement, as the title would imply. The apocalypse seems to be a weapon to punish humanity, but really isn't the main point of the story. Are humans worthy of the life we have been given on earth? Do we take too much for granted? Do we take the easy way out? Do we see evil happen and avert our eyes? Some of the answers to these questions seem to be a commentary on the world today. As I said, I was disturbed.
It doesn't seem to matter if people are good or evil; chosen or guardian. Everyone can be corrupted, violated, or made unclean, with or without their knowledge. The people that think they are corrupting the world can also be corrupted and violated. The people that think they are doing good can be corrupted and violated. Everyone can be manipulated, but who is doing the manipulating? God? Satan? Powerful people? Other? A combination of the above? Does life has a purpose?
Read the book and find out (in this book's fictional world). I definitely recommend it.
I can't give it five stars because there are some things that just didn't make sense to me. The dinosaurs were destroyed 65 million years ago, but there is plenty of evidence they existed. Wouldn't there be evidence of something that happened much more recently? Did Apollyon start the apocalypse or was some entity working through them to do so? Is the apocalypse really related to the breaking of the seals? It seems it is, or is it that once something this horrific begins it is impossible to stop? These are just some of the questions I had. There are also some editing issues, but they probably won't bother you unless you are nitpicky (like I am unfortunately).
This is a really good book. You are in a state of suspense almost from start to finish. Maybe that's part of the reason it was so disturbing. You keep asking yourself, "Who are these people and why are they doing these things?" And you can't wait to find out. And you'll probably be thinking about what you know of Revelations and how it relates to the things that happen as they happen. This book will make you think and question things you believe. I don't think I'll ever forget this book. Forget my nitpickiness, I'm giving it five stars.

"The Defiled" is an apocalyptic thriller by Sean Deville, about what is widely known as Armageddon. The end of the world as WE know it. In this story, two forces of unknown enmity battle to either protect human beings who are The Chosen, or to kill them off in order to ensure that the Seven Plagues is allowed, or made, to occur. A surprising twist will leave readers agape!
Sean Deville has a great sense of character development; I find myself sympathizing with quite a few characters, while growing to truly hate others. His constant jump in between several different countries lets us see what is happening to the characters and countries at any given time in the story as it unfolds. His descriptive skills are spot-on; You find yourself cringing with imagined pain, sadness, anger, and so on, so good is Deville's power of description!
The only problem I had with this book is the incorrect use of dialects in each country. It threw me off, and I had to constantly remind myself of which country I am now reading, otherwise my brain insists I am still in the UK. For example, Americans (the USA) do not use the word "arse" and its variants, like the British does. So, when I am reading sections that occurs in the USA, and reading how they speak to one other, I have a hard time remembering that it is occuring in USA, my brain wanting to insist on the UK instead. I do understand that the author is British, and this is why the dialect for the ENTIRE book is British, but I wish he would have spent more time re-working this particular oddity so that the switching of each countries as the story unfolds, is more smooth and believable. Because of this particular issue, though the book is a great read, I have rated it a 4 out of 5 stars.
I very rarely write reviews but for this book I made an exception. I only read this book because I had read his Necropolis Trilogy. I have to say that this was amazingly good. I am an avid reader , and you always hope the next book will be good. This book has everything you need. It’s really well researched and written in a ‘forceful’ tone. Sure and confident writing reveals the plots and numerous subplots. It’s not always an easy read, but I guarantee you it’s an excellent one. I would recommend this book to any fans of end of the world type stories, as well as readers who have an open mind. Happy reading.
I liked the book, the part with the plagues and that religious touch it had and therefore, I gave it 3 stars, maybe 2,5. content warnings: rape, violence of all sorts, gore. Be advised that this book is an adult one. Most of the parts I liked about this book had to do with breacking the Seals to the gate. I did not read the entire synopsis of the book before reading the book and I was surprised of the plot twist near the end. This is not a religios book, even though it has elements. The book has multiple perspectives, the main ones being a profesor, a few assasins, a few psycopaths, and some ordinary people. Sometimes it is slow, sometimes fast paced, when I put the book down I do not want to pick it up again, but when I read it I do not want to put it down again. Not a great read for me, because I prefer young adult books, second place being the adult ones.

The story was good. The plot is where it all fell apart. There was too much going on for the reader to keep track. The characters are likable and developed. A different take on the book of Revelations was interesting. The book does have a lot of violence that may be too much for a reader. I cane actually imagine some of this stuff happening.

Although the book starts slowly, I urge you to keep reading. Once the scenario is laid out and the characters in place, the novel goes full speed ahead with an amazing plot about very bad people and sinister betrayals. I loved the suspense and can't wait to start reading the next book from my new list of books written by Sean Deville. Thank you sir for this horrifyingly creative work of art.
I really enjoyed this book. Although very long, the storyline kept me interested. There are a lot of editting issues. Grammar is strange at times, and a spell check would be great because there are a lot of words misspelled. But despite all this I really liked it and will follow this author.
The story was engaging and surprising. Perfect example of how things can be accomplished with narratives being fed to us negative or not. Could not help but think of those led to the prison camps with beliefs of something better. Do we then distrust or do we step by faith?
He is trapped in a coma and he suffer terrible dreams and visions. He is the coma for three years. Then he wakes and finds a stranger who gives him an offer. To with her or sees his dreams come true. What will he do? Can he stop it?
I am always amazed at Sean Deville's imagination. I've read almost all of Sean's books and it amazes me with each one I read. An original take on the end days and it blew my mind. If you like apocalypse books you'll love this. I recommend reading.
The seals to the gates of hell are being broken and chaos is happening. Chips have been inserted into the humans, but they are malfunctioning and with great consequences. Plagues are being release and the world is in turmoil. Things are not what they seem, and the people are paying the price. Very intense and dark. Great book
