David Gerstel is clearly a contractor of great skill.
The book focuses on how estimating is the cornerstone of profitability and by focusing on your costs you can build a business that actually pays you.
Some key lessons from this book include:
- Making labor productivity records improves your estimating - Making and "included list" on your contracts as well as a "not included list" - Charging for estimates - Recapturing your overhead in your quotes - Making sure your business is focused on profit.
There are many valuable lessons in the book and I think it is a worthy read.
My only gripe with this book is that it focuses more on someone owning a home building business and less on someone who is a contractor dealing with smaller renovations and less designers and architects.
That being said there are definitely some gems in this book, and I appreciated the authors opinions on how to estimate properly.
