I read this book for a American History class and just......wow. I enjoyed reading from a German soldier's point of view. This book perfected painted the harsh reality of soldier's life and effects of war. We learn of how the war and demanding setting of the front and how it turned men, on both sides, into cruel animals and scarred them forever.

This book was dripping with imagery. It showed the gory side of war, the things the soldiers actually saw. It also showed a view that not many people think about by showing the German soldiers.
