Just when you think you have your future all mapped out, love enters the picture and changes the scenery.

I thought I forgot already how to smile but damn this volume carves a permanent smile on my mouth. I love them, it's actually pretty cute seeing them playing house until Rei finally proposed. I kinda miss this feeling of lightness, the previous volumes were nothing but depressing, so this one is actually a sweet treat. So cute! But the next volume sure is going to be the moment of truth...
Also, Kira's hairstyles and outfits are all so cute in this volume. I just realized that her character is maturing and ever-growing. She even looks like a real woman on the cover. With red lipstick and all (Blooming symbolism because they did the deed? Lol)
Well, this is the one where Rei and Kira do the deed. And Kira gets a job. And Rei avoids talking to his father. I forget that they're teenagers and they are trying to deal with these adult situations. This series is rather ridiculous and over the top dramatic but I still find them entertaining.
I think the cover art for volume 10 speaks louder than words. We finally have Rei and Kira on a cover together and that is indicative of the contents of this volume. They're now living together, sleeping together, he works to provide for her as if he were a husband, and all of the things.
You would think this would be a super sweet volume, but it's actually a rather angst-riddled and somewhat depressing volume. Rei and Kira as planning to get married as soon as Rei turns 18, which is crazy young. He's going to drop out of school to do race test motorcycles full time (oh yeah, the motorcycle riding is back a little bit in this volume). Kira gets a job and is felt up by customers her first day. Rei goes violent vigilante on the guys harassing her. There's even a skinny-dipping scene.
So while it's an important volume that sort of moves their relationship forward, it's also kinda sad. Rei and Kira should be able to be unspoiled kids, but that's just not their fate. Instead, they have each other and they've each grown up way faster than they should have had to. I don't know, but volume 10 always makes me sad. And it will get worse before it gets better because Kira has to once again confront her rapist in Vol 11. But it does get better, and that's one reason why I fell in love with the series. Because angst and pain aside, there is the promise of a happy ending.
This is the volume I distinctly remember the most of from high school because 1.) It was the first time I ever read a sex scene (as non-graphic as it was) and 2.) Feeling if my parents found out what I read, I would be in SO much trouble and therefore avoided manga for many many years.
However, even with that said, this was a really good volume! I think this series doesn't fit the typical shojo mold because unlike most shojo manga where the focus is getting married after high school, Rei and Kira are having to make tough decisions of how they can actually make this work as a couple IN high school. Not because they don't love each other deeply, but Mars portrays the more realistic aspect of their relationship that they can't simply stay in their own world when they have to make ends meet. I thought that was eye-opening and definitely know I needed that kind of "wake-up" when I was in high school. LOL!!
I LOVED the conversations involving a character named Violet because she was able to help Rei see that by him not wanting Kira to work, it was unintentionally making her think poorly of herself because she WANTED to help contribute, but felt was incapable. It was an amazing conversation and really liked Rei's subtle change of feelings and how it impacted Kira. (Also that scene when she was at work and he came was gold. LOL! Plus the bank book! <3 SUPER cute scene!)
I think this was a good volume and was nice to have a volume where no one's lives were at risk or any extremely heartbreaking conversations. A very nice reprieve!
I feel like I'm being harsh with my rating but I'm not enjoying the character development here and the only thing that keeps me reading is that I actually liked the first 3 volumes and wish to see where the protagonists end up.
This one did have melodrama but it was nice to see them be sweet and there for each other again. There was odd 90s shit with the neighbor but I liked her a lot in supporting and helping Kira. This volume had one of the most beautiful art scenes when he takes her to see the lights at night. The art is top notch.
This time things were a bit happier, more carefree. But it feels too quiet... it's like those really silent moments of a horror movie where I'm just waiting for the loud *bang* to happen.
Still, I really do enjoy this story. It's depressing as hell, but the moments that Rei and Kira share make the whole thing worth it in spades. I'm getting pulled along by their romance. It's like gravity.
You can see my review of the complete series (spoiler free I promise) on my blog Reading Robyn
Je suis toujours mitigée quand je lis Mars parce que je trouve pleins de scènes et propos bien problématiques mais y en a d'autres qui sont excellentes c'est frustrant
This is definitely my favorite volume so far. I love that Kira is opening up more and becoming who she truly would be without the incident of her stepfather. I also love that she is willing to take a chance and put herself out there by working. I give Kira so much respect this volume. Rei as well. I know it was hard for him to tell Kira no to working at first. He just wanted to protect her.
Finally, a breather. It was one traumatic event after another the last few volumes, so it was nice to see the gang be content for a hot minute. Kira and Rei are really maturing and growing together, but they are still teenagers. I wish they didn't have to take on so much adult responsibilities already.
I'm so proud of Kira for taking the brave decision to leave her scary household that have her stepfather in it but this volume really makes me more emotionally attached to it dude. Duh .... Hmmmmmm can't wait for the next volume especially about Rei future plan !
they did the deed, and Rei proposed which oh my god, sooo cute 😭😭🤧 oh love is sooo cute for them. I hope Rei gets to be a pro racer. and i hope Kira gets a better job the manger is a wimp. smh I would be mad and quit ASAP if I had that manager!

Rei and Kira are so freaking sweet on each other. But more than that, I like how supportive they are of each other, even if it's because they don't have anyone else. Harumi and Tatsuya are really good friends to them too and it warms my heart that they're all growing up together.
Also something I noticed: in this book Kira “gives herself to Rei” and I think the cover coincides with that. Out of all the volumes, this is the only one they’re featured together on. Just a theory!
Wow! I can’t believe they’re getting married and that Rei dropped out of school! I’m interested to see how Kira’s stepdad plays a part in the next volume.
