Angharad “Harry” Russo is a half-vampire witch with the power to raise the dead. No surprise that her life is not what you would call normal, but that won’t stop her from trying. So maybe she was almost disemboweled by a demon, that’s no reason for her sexy boyfriend, homicide detective Cian Nash to give her the cold shoulder, is it? One thing’s for sure, Harry’s not going to let his behaviour slide. She’ll get to the bottom of it even if it means sitting him down and tying him to a chair. But first there’s the little mystery of some damaged roses and stolen jewels to solve. Add in a flirty stranger with mysterious powers, a cat burglar and a feathered accomplice, and Harry’s off on another adventure. Unfortunately, it’s not all fun and games. When the leaders of the supernatural community go missing, the race is on to find who’s behind their abductions before it’s too late.
Lisa Emme is a Canadian who proudly ends her ABC’s with ‘zed’. A self-professed book-a-holic, she has spent the last few years trying to stem her book hoarding tendencies by writing her own stories and by avoiding the bargain table at the bookstore like the plague.
A bit of a thrill seeker, Lisa has tried such death defying activities as bungy jumping off a bridge and rappelling down the side of a 17 storey building. She's also single-handedly raising a teenager.
Lisa has worked as a veterinary assistant, playground instructor, bank teller, store clerk, waitress, telephone solicitor, research writer for an environmental think tank, computer programmer, and systems analyst. Her passion however, is writing. What else is she going to do during the long, cold prairie winter?
I seem to be in the minority here... but I hated this book. I found it to be phoned in. The characters behaved out of character, the relationship with Nash and Harry was bizarre. The story was rushed and new characters were forced into the mix. Giving up on this series.
This story seemed off to me, like something was missing. Like I missed a few chapters of the story The usual characters seemed to have a change in personalities, that I thought was off putting. It just didn't seem like a typical Harry Russo story.
This didn't feel like an ending to a series. It must be, because there are no more (or are there? -shrug), but it felt a little open-ended. I think the reason that I kept reading these (note, I skipped the fourth book) is that there was a lot of potential. I like strong heroines, but she's just so strong and confident, something that I think doesn't happen often for an early twenties girl. That seemed unrealistic. She always knows what to say and how to react to Tomas and anyone else? Always has perfect comebacks and is dressed to kill? (literally?) I liked Nash, but I was intrigued by Jonah, who lets her be herself. I don't like Salvador, but I do like him, at least a little. Her magic is interesting, but sometimes too powerful and sometimes not enough. The conclusion being, there's plenty of contradictions - sometimes I'm intrigued and enjoying the story and sometimes I'm frustrated. That's why I read most of the series but rated them low. What can you do.... Parental Guide: See my other reviews of this series.
I loved the ending of this tale. Harry is stronger than even her newly acquired family realized. Nash was disappointing in this 5th book because he wasn’t ride or die. His wolf is a flake. The ghost have really enhanced Harry’s paranormal presence and Salvador has stepped up his game of getting to know his daughter as it is revealed that he has always looked out for her. Tess is a true friend and it is obvious all the other weres have no problems with Harry. Finally the detective agency is off to a huge success thanks to the ‘ghost in the machine’ and Tess’s bad azz ness. Wish there was more but it looks like this is it.
Harry is such a well written character, she is the total package and I !I've reading about her life. The plots in each book are well thought out, never rushed and always entertaining. I will say that Nash needs to grow up and he was hardly in this book but I still liked it a whole lot. Jonah is a welcome surprise and I hope he sticks around. Lucy was a great spot of humor as well.
I love everything about the characters in this series. You want more words? I usually read the small downloadable portions of a book. If I like the style of writing I move forward to get the book. Suffice to say I was hooked the first book and am looking forward to the next.
This is a marvelous series and I liked Book 5 the most. The energetic and powerful characters make high drama a daily occurrence in a most entertaining and visually brilliant way. Definitely worth reading and maybe more than once.
yet another great book in this awesome series many twist and turns in this one and the addition of a new member to the gang can't wait to see what the future holds
I like the story and the writing is very good. The only thing I really didn't like is how she just let everybody walk all over her. Grow some damn backbone
I love the Harry Russo series by Lisa Emme…I just wish there was more of the series as once you read one, you want to keep reading.
The Harry Russo series focuses on Harry, a half vampire witch who also has the power to raise the dead! ‘Dead to Me’ sees Harry making a comeback after being injured in a previous book and on her tail is trouble, which constantly seems to be following her around. From a cat burglar, to a crow stealing things, magic, mayhem and her father thrown into the loop, it's any wonder that Harry has time to have coffee and cake.
Harry is a well written character, she is strong and sassy. Just how I like my female leads and although Nash is in this book albeit in a lesser sense than most books and definitely more moodier, this time he may have to work a little harder to keep Harry’s affections and it will definitely be interesting to see how this third character will affect their relationship overall!
I really love the plots in this book and the writing just flows which make it a really enjoyable, easy read urban paranormal book. If you haven’t read any of this series, I can tell you that you are going to binge read 1 through 5.
If you love paranormal, feisty, action packed reads. Then the Harry Russo books are for you!
So I've just finished reading this series again and enjoyed it immensely. Well written and fast paced action packed storyline, with likeable characters that I now have an invested interest to find out what happens to them. Would love it if there was another book coming in this series. Highly recommend.
