A handful of survivors from the mining colony on Caldera limp their way to the nearest inhabited system, desperate to repair their battle-damaged old asteroid-cutter, the Omicron Rex.
Unfortunately, this lands them in a quarantined system, on a crumbling orbital colony that was once a luxury resort full of theme parks and hotels, now inhabited only by vagrants, smugglers, and pirates.
The crew must warn the rest of humanity about the coming alien threat, but the outlaw colony is intentionally cut off from civilization, with no communication relays in place at the wormholes.
The Rex crew face a struggle to make others believe the threat, and try to rally support and raise an organized defense in the anarchic, crime-ridden colony before the aliens arrive.
Because the alien fleet is on its way, in search of worlds to ravage, resources to seize, and fresh meat to eat...and they leave only ruins, bones, and scorched earth in their wake.
Solid Action-Oriented SciFi Story With True-To-Life Characters
“Retribution,” Book 3 of Max Carver’s “Relic Wars” Trilogy continues the admirable touch he has as a new author. Story moves forward at a fast pace, the characters are ‘normal’ people - not cartoonish, grim, gritty, humorous, and it’s a *trilogy* not another never ending series that so infests contemporary SciFi.
Other than some needless repetition and a few proofreading misses which both call for a sharpened blue pencil editing, no complaints.
“Retribution” is highly recommended and fully read via Kindle Unlimited.
