Portland Storm #2

Playing for Keeps

Rate this book
The stakes are high when you’re playing for keeps...

Pro hockey player Eric Jacobs should be focused on rehabbing his knee and getting back on the ice where he belongs. Then his grandmother sells the family bakery without telling him, and the gloves come off. He’s not losing his childhood home without a fight—but the new owner is proving as stubborn as she is gorgeous, and it’s throwing him off his game.

Rebecca Callahan is searching for her passion, and she’s determined not to let her lack of baking experience stand in the way of making her new business a success. Especially not with the former owner’s handsome grandson just waiting for her to fail. If she’s going to make him eat his words, she needs to keep her mind on the bakery and stop imagining Eric’s sexy abs as dessert.

As Rebecca and Eric face off in a battle of wills, will giving into the heat between them be a recipe for disaster or the icing on the cupcake?

This one is special, because we may never haven’t gotten it and that would have been a shame because secretly it’s my favourite, but don’t tell the others…

Eric and Rebecca are an unlikely couple, they butt heads and have different ideas about pretty much everything, they bicker, they argue and the sexual tension through it all is explosive. But as with every Taryn Leigh Taylor novel, it isn’t just a steamy read, your emotions are tested to the max and this one made me cry a couple of times. Eric tugged and pull at my heart throughout this story, and when he opens himself up to Rebecca you feel like you’re getting to know him better alongside her, its a touching and wonderfully executed piece of emotive prose. I love Eric’s commitment to his family and his legacy, and how he felt Rebecca was taking a piece of that when really she was adding herself to it, to him and his life. That sounds so sappy but welcome to my brain! I loved Rebecca and I related to her so much, I loved her fearless ambition, she’s such a fun character who knows her own mind, she’s so spirited and lively and together they just shouldn’t work but they do because she barrels into his very stable and routined life like a hurricane. I LOVED their dynamic, this is like The Great British Bake Off meets the NHL playoffs and I am there for it!

Playing for Keeps

Good story. Love a hockey romance. Rebecca was a free spirit who loved to move from place to place. Eric a hockey player who needs stability can they make this work or is it just hot,hot sex? Loved this story. Great characters and a wonderful romance. A must read. Loved seeing the other Portland Storm players

I enjoyed Rebecca’s confidence in Playing for Keeps. I also liked her relationship with Eric and Stella.
