Brayshaw High #1

Boys of Brayshaw High

Rate this book
"Girls like you aren't exactly welcomed at a place like this, so keep your head down and look the other way."

Those were the exact words of my social worker when she dropped me in my newest hellhole, a place for "troubled teens".

I didn't listen, and now I'm on their radar.

They expect me to play along in their games of hierarchy, to fall in line in the social order they've deemed me fit.

Too bad for them, I don't follow rules.
Too bad for me, they're determined to make sure I do.

Inconceivably attractive and treated like kings...these are the boys of Brayshaw High.
And I'm the girl who got in their way.

So this was me after finishing this book:

description

In other words...everyone around me is roaring with applause and I be over here like, wuuuut? What did I miss?

Cause this "performance?" Was a total train wreck.

description

And yet, pretty much almost everyone I know decorated this thing with gold stars like a General getting ready for a fucking military ball.

In fact, there were so many glaring issues with this book, I don't even think I have the time or the energy to get to them all.

But fear not, friends. I will endeavor to do my best.

description

Issue #1: The Boys of Brayshaw

Dude.

So the premise behind this story is that these idiots guys "run" the entire school. In fact, they apparently run the town for...some reason? Yeah, my brain actually hurt after trying to make sense of their ridiculously convoluted back story. It made no sense. None at all. Something about two families founding the town and then one family wanting to be more "gangsta, yo" so they brought in three other families and these current "Brayshaw Boys" are descendants of those wannabe mafioso families. Or something.

Even if it DID make sense...it would still not justify why these supposed teenagers have so much power that even the school principal does what they say.

description

Now, before we go any further, I should say this. I am VERY talented at suspending belief for the sake of a good story. And the whole "high school bully trope" is one that I truly love to get behind. I love reading about powerful alphas and romantic push/pull. And the trap of high school and being under 18 (and thus unable to willingly escape said trap) is a natural setting for this kind of story to truly flourish.

My favorite bully-trope story of all time is, aptly named, Bully by Penelope Douglas. And, while reading Boys of Brayshaw (BoB from here on out)...I couldn't help but think BoB's author was a fan too.

description

MADDOC, Royce, and Captain read like caricatured copies of Jared, MADOC, and Jaxon, even to the point that their roles in the group are the same. Maddoc and Jared are the enigmatic spearhead of the group, Royce and Maddoc the smooth-talking sidekick, and Captain and Jaxon the silent third leg with a mysterious side story.

Except, in this book, MADDOC (I mean, really?) is one of the most wooden characters I've ever come across. His sunglasses and trusty black SUV have more personality than he did.

And Madoc and Jaxon Royce and Captain? While better in that department than Maddoc (the one from THIS story; yes, I realize that is VERY obvious confusing), they still read like parodies.

Add to all that the fact that these guys are supposed to be badasses...who really weren't all that badass in my opinion. Unless you call "always miraculously showing up just in time to glare at someone" a super power.

description

But really, aside from getting into random fights at high school parties, groping Raven in the cafeteria, and playing basketball on an omg crappy public *gasp* basketball court they somehow called "their territory," NOTHING these dudes did was badass on any level.

description

Now...speaking of Raven...

Issue #2: Raven

God save me from this idiot.

description

In a valiant effort to make Raven the top contender in the Not Like Other Girls Games, Brandy basically made her a cross between Lara Croft Tomb Raider and Eminem's character in 8 Mile...but with an apparently detailed background in adult psychology 101 instead of mad musical wordsmith skills.

Even though she bashed any other characters when they erroneously got judgmental, she of course, had crazy ghetto life skills. Because trailer park. Meaning, she could totally sum up the totality of anyone she met within the first few seconds of meeting them.

But don't you dare call her the daughter of a whore.

And while the almost threesome scene was hot (why do you think I gave this 1.5 stars instead of 1 star, after all), it just didn't align with character actions and behavior up to that point, namely on the part of Maddoc...not that he had much of any characterization at all, mind you; but what was present on that front didn't make me think he would so easily go along with his brothers (not brothers? brothers from another mother?) practically tag-teaming her in a dark room as a group.

You know, to distract her. From her fear of the dark.

description

And don't even get me started on her supposed side hustle as...wait for it...an underground match fighter.

description

That's not any more believable than Angelina Jolie being a leather-wearing, weapon wielding Indiana Jones. And since Raven's appearance is basically based on Angelina Jolie - but only wearing jeans, hoodies, and no makeup, you know, to make her "uglier" - I just can't even begin to visualize this girl throwing down in between endless tokes on her joint. And books don't provide stunt doubles, people.

This brings me to perhaps the most ridiculous issue of all.

Issue #3: The Lack of ANY Adult Presence Whatsoever

Now, I realize the dead parent/drunk parent/absentee parent shtick is a mainstay in the high school novel world. I mean, after all, how else would we reach 90210/Gossip Girl levels of pseudo-adulting with any actual adults present.

When needed, I can usually accept this as par for the course. But this book?

Took that shit to a whole other level.

I think the only adults mentioned in the entirety of this book - and we are talking throughout numerous schools days, evenings at home, planned house parties with last-minute "secret locations" *snort*, a weekend long cabin vacation in the mountains, the aforementioned illegal fight scene crap, and so many other situations where adult presence would be completely unavoidable - were Raven's mother (the quintessential white trash prostitute with a cocaine problem who lives in a single-wide), the principal (who doubles as our white cardboard child molester who skulks around school hallway corners), the social worker (who reads more like Raven's older sister with no actual social working skills or knowledge), and the "last resort" juvenile house manager Maybell - who is basically an insult to all token black female characters everywhere.

Truly though, it was like this book took place in an alternative universe where teenagers ran the world and adults were like majestic unicorns who were talked about but aren't actually real.

Issue #4: Repetitive Words Choices and Phrases

If I had to read the words "she popped her eyebrow like a brat" or "she popped her shoulder" one more time...I might have popped my kindle across the room.

And don't even get me started on how much the characters licked their lips. I mean, Jesus, someone gets these kids some chapstick, FFS.

Now yes, I realize that^ was petty. But we were surpassing Anastasia Steele lip biting levels with all this constant lip licking here, people.

description

Now, there are definitely more issues I could list here, e.g., the mysterious absence of any court proceedings preceding all this re-homing of underage juveniles (or at least a half-assed off page reference to anything like that taking place), but I just can't be bothered to articulate myself any further.

I had put off reading this book because I had seen a couple 1-star reviews on it (definitely the minority) from people I trust, but it was just rated so damn high (and free via KU) that I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

And all I can say is - I truly have no idea.

Onward.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Boys of Brayshaw (book 1 of 3). Raven defies the town’s ruling boys club & is pulled into a game of secrets, lies & seduction

“You’re mine if I say you are, you’re trash when I decide I’m done. And I’m standing here telling you I changed my mind. I’m not ready to throw you out just yet.”

Books in Brayshaw High trilogy should be read in order:
Book 1: Boys of Brayshaw High
Book 2: Trouble at Brayshaw
Book 3: Untitled

Boys of Brayshaw is the edgy first installment opening up to 17-year old Raven Carver aka RaeRae being removed from her mother’s care and taken to a home for troubled kids. She has arrived in a town of many secrets; a decade-old feud and a quest for power and revenge.

Raven quickly catches the attention of the untouchable trio that controls her school lead by student, heir and resident bad boy Maddoc Brayshaw aka Big Man, the town’s most promising basketball star, and his brothers-in-arms Royce and Captain aka Cap.

Told from dual POVs it’s a high school drama with an unfolding mystery. But don’t let the YA setting fool you. It’s a seductive, provocative and dark whirlwind tale featuring a brooding larger-than-life alpha BOY hero and one the (un)lucky girl caught in his web.

Story ends with a shocker leading right to book 2, Trouble at Brayshaw for the continuation of their story promising more lies, secrets, blackmail, jealousy and deception.

“Like I said, she’s trouble. Problem is, I like the taste of trouble.”

From the second I saw the blurb for Boys of Brayshaw High, I freaked the fuck out!! I knew this book was going to be for me, and I proceeded to yell about it to my friends and make countless people put it on their tbr and read it. I may have also threatened to unfriend some people that knew about it but didn't tell me. LOL I mean, I take the whole sharing is caring thing very seriously.

You may assume that since I was so ready to devour this book that I'd read Meagan Brandy's work before. That assumption would be wrong. This was going to be my first time venturing into her writing, and I was just crossing my fingers like a motherfucker that the book was going to be everything I wanted it to be. There was just so much potential for it to become a book that I would absolutely adore, because it's exactly the kind of story I search out on a regular basis. I am complete trash for YA and NA novels revolving around the group of guys that rule the school and the new girl that they gets their attention. They're usually mean to the girl, at least at first, and for me, that makes it even better. Asshole alphas are my favorite, and if you give me more than one, I'm like putty in your hands. Think The Royals series by Erin Watt or the Fallen Crest series by Tijan. If those books blow your skirt up, you will lose your mind for this one!

1RtVYxr

That being said, Boys of Brayshaw is not a carbon copy of either one of those series at all. It has it's own unique storyline and amazing cast of characters for you to fall in love with, and fall I did! Maddoc, Royce, and Cap are three men that I will never forget! I adore each and every one of them, and I wish with everything I am that Meagan would have made this book Reverse Harem! Raven is definitely a heroine that could handle all 3 guys, and she has such a special relationship with each one that it would actually be believable. I mourn the fact that this will likely never happen, but in a perfect world, all three dudes at the same damn time!! 🙌🏻 That's the only thing that could make me love this story more, but I digress.
u8

Raven, the daughter of a drug addicted prostitute, gets removed from her home by social services and brought to a girl's group home in the town of Brayshaw. Once she gets there, she's sent to Brayshaw High where she meets the kings of the Brayshaw kingdom a.k.a. the Boys of Brayshaw, Maddoc, Royce, and Captain. The guys aren't very welcoming to her at first, but it isn't long before they see Raven is different than what they expected her to be. She's strong, confident, take no bullshit, loyal, and despite her trying to hide it underneath a steel exterior, she has a good heart. They go from pushing her away to pulling her in, and not everybody is happy about the change. Some people are downright bitter and go to great lengths to break them apart. Bribery, blackmail, and even violence, they will stop at nothing to make sure Raven leaves Brayshaw for good.

Boys of Brayshaw High was everything I hoped it would be and a fuck ton more! It's a big ass book, but I couldn't put it down! I was captivated from the very beginning until the very end, and honestly, I haven't gone a day without thinking about it since! If you've heard the term " MadDickFog" getting thrown around recently, that shit's real!

dt-1

Meagan Brandy's writing sucked me in and kept my eyes glued to the page practically salivating for more. All the main characters intrigued me, made me laugh, pissed me off, broke my heart and put it back together again a few times before capturing it completely. The romance between Raven and Maddoc drove me mad with anticipation and the sexual tension and angst of it all twisted me up in the most delicious ways!

tumblr_o4r1e3FxwD1twyp8xo1_500

The steam level was perfect for the story, too, and just FYI, there is one scene in particular that may require a change of underwear! It's also one of my favorite parts of the book, and I wish it would have went even further! Hint hint, Meagan! LOL

In case you can't tell by now, I HIGHLY recommend Boys of Brayshaw High to everyone that is even the slightest bit interested in the blurb or the hype. It deserves all of the buzz it's getting! Give it a chance, and then come talk to me about how much you loved it when you're done! We can fangirl together, and believe me, you'll need the support until the next installment comes out!

This book is definitely going on my list of best books of 2019! Yes, I know it's only January, but it's THAT GOOD!! I won't be surprised if it becomes one of my favorite series of all time!! Grab this one asap, y'all! You won't regret it!!

So this book had been all over Facebook these past few days with gushing reviews all over. And I just couldn’t ignore it after I’ve seen it being compared to the Royals series by Erin Watt, which I loved and Fallen Crest series by Tijan. And those comparisons are warranted. Unfortunately, while PP and FC were executed well (in my opinion), this book wasn’t. I had huge issues with it.

So where do I even start?

First off, this book made me laugh. Not in a good way though. Like there are parts in this book where it’s supposed to be serious and I’m supposed to care about whatever drama our protagonist is going through but instead, I get the giggles.

Why? Because it’s just so RIDICULOUS!

This book took itself way too seriously which makes the whole thing hilarious. There is nothing funnier than a book that takes itself way too seriously especially when it doesn’t have anything to say. I get it. Books don’t necessarily have to say anything to be enjoyable but that’s just it. This book tried way too hard to be so deep and it failed. And it failed hard.

And no, it’s not because the leads are teenagers. I’ve read books with teen leads that had something to say about the world and it worked. The teenagers in this book though—they’re not really humans. They’re caricatures. And these are teenagers take themselves way too seriously for all the wrong reasons. Like you’d think they’re running a country or something with all the self-inflicted drama they created.

It probably would’ve worked if the characters had an ounce of charisma and self-awareness but they had none. Raven and Maddoc had no substance or depth to them. Calling them shallow would be too kind. Shallow characters are at least fun to read but these two? No. Their dialogue and interaction is as interesting as watching paint dry. Boring and pointless.

Raven was Elle Harper on steroids but with less charisma and self-awareness. She's also a hypocrite.

Maddoc is as sexy as a sack of potatoes. He barely talks and when he does, the words that come out of him are mind-numbingly dumb. But we’re supposed to pretend he’s being deep because doh, he’s the hero. Royce and Captain are pretty much the same.

“Imma let you sit on that.” He leans forward. “And maybe later,” – he moves my hand, sliding the back of it against his hard-on– “you’ll be sitting on this.”

So sexy. NOT.

There’s just something so unattractive with boys trying to act like “men”. It’s so jarring and irritating to read. And did I mention ridiculous? I’ve read young male characters who had to grow up way too fast due to circumstances beyond their control. These boys though are nothing but entitled brats. Annoying and so boring.

Seriously. The lines of dialogue Maddoc and his friends have in this book was so bad and so cheesy, they made me cringe. They are revered and feared because they own the town or they own the town because they’re feared or—honestly, I have no idea.

Reading their backstory made my head hurt. This book took the dead and the absent parent trope to staggering heights. The story about how the boys became who they are in town was bonkers and hilarious at the same time. I didn't understand half of it, and nor do I care.

But all the women in their town seems to think they're hot shit because everyone wants to get in their pants. We're reminded of this fact all the time just in case we forget. The girls just lose their minds and their panties every time they walk by. *roll eyes It’s so trite and cliche.

And oh, we're also reminded that Raven, unlike those other girls, don't want to sleep with them coz she’s not like other girls. Duh.

Which brings us to issue number two or what I call the SHE’S NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS syndrome. Yes, it’s capitalized because it’s the only theme this book has.

What I really disliked about the “not like other girls” syndrome is how tied it is to girl hate. Because apparently, the only way to make the heroine special is to make every single female character in the book as loathsome and petty as possible. All the other girls that aren’t Raven are all jealous of her and all the boys are in love with her of course because SHE’S NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS, YO!

To be fair, there are other girls that aren’t after the Brayshaws but they’re barely in the book. They have no personality and they’re there to tell us how special Raven is and how those other girls are just jealous because the Brayshaw boys want her.

The rest of girls are written as villains who are out to get the boys and ruin their lives. They’re not written as characters with feelings. Nope. Their ambition in life is to be a Bray Girl—whatever that means. Basically, they’re there to show everyone that Raven IS NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS!

“For real, you’re like a biker princess or rock goddess, wrapped in a fat ass, shiny Do Not Touch tape that only makes everyone wanna touch it more. You’re a little hood but still a Cali girl. They want to be you, imitate you, but they don’t know how. They have fancy clothes and cars and Daddy’s plastic, but no matter what they do or buy or who they pay, they can’t reach your level, and they know it. You’re this lethal ass combination of girl they never knew they wanted to be until now but couldn’t match if they tried.”

Yeah, yeah. She’s not like other girls and everyone are just jealous haters. We know!

I’ve read my fair share of misogynoir, but I have never ever EVER read a book where girls and women are treated this way. It’s even more startling when you realize that the men in the book are coddled and every single bad behavior they have are excused by the heroine and by everyone.

What made it worse was Raven’s own hypocrisy. Every time Maddoc and his friends act like worst people in the world, Raven would excuse their actions as acting out or working through their issues because they don’t trust women & they just need understanding. Raven doesn’t spare the same kindness for the other girls who are also being used by the boys. She sees the other girls around the Bray boys the same way people saw her. She doesn’t blame the boys or the patriarchy nor does she blame the system of sexism that enabled boys like Maddoc to treat girls like crap. Nope. She instead blames the girls because clearly, they’re asking for it.

In Raven’s mind: Maddoc & friends = misunderstood. The other girls = jealous haters who will sell their dignity to have sex with Maddoc & friends. This message was constantly repeated and reinforced throughout the book. It’s not just Raven that says it. Every single character in this book parrots this narrative. It’s exhausting.

News flash: You can make your girls strong and special without demeaning every single female character that is not the heroine.

Last but certainly not the least reason why I hated this book was the writing. There’s no sense of time and place in this book because the world building is non-existent.

It’s also repetitive as hell. There was no conflict. Just constant drama about something. And the romance between Maddoc and Raven was as exciting as going to a root canal. It’s painful.

Then there’s the technical aspect. I had to search and see if this book was edited because it doesn’t read like it was edited at all.

There were too many errors to ignore. My goddess, the errors. There are missing words, run on sentences, sentences that ends abruptly or doesn’t end at all. The mangled metaphors and silly similes—they all made a cameo in this book.

For the love that is holy, lay off the thesaurus! And use figures of speech sparingly especially when you have no idea how to use them. They’re supposed to make your dialogue or scene clearer, not mangle them beyond recognition. It’s not cute, dear authors when you do this. It does not make you a great writer either.

Strong and solid, with eyes like ancient jade and the sharp edges of a monarch…

What does that mean? A monarch like the butterfly or monarch like a king? And how exactly does a monarch have sharp edges?

His brown hair matches his eyes and is a little wilder on top then theirs, but he keeps the sides trimmed nice.

Sorry, I’m still trying to picture the “wilder on top then theirs” part.

Chills break across my skin at the possessives he’s exuding.

Yeah, when I read this, I wondered if I was being punked or this was an honest mistake that the editor missed. I have forgiven ARCs for errors like this but not published books.

I lift a brow and his frown deepens, so I lift my knee, jamming it right into the douche in front of me’s dick.

To be fair, I know exactly what the author was trying to do here but the sentence construction doesn’t make sense.

And to top it all off, the punctuations, especially the commas, and ellipses … oh my goddess, I can’t. There were way too many misplaced commas in this book. Listen, when used properly, you hardly notice commas. But when used improperly, commas become these pesky little things that annoy readers.

His face is a perfect mask, hair mused and collar stretched.

Mussed not mused but who cares, right? He’s HOT and so ALPHA!

Like I get it, I have a stigma that follows me around, even hours from mine, it seems, but I don’t know why people go out of the way to piss me off.

Maybe it’s to help them in some way, a pawn of sorts, or maybe they crave the presence of a female constant, one who doesn’t require anything of them. One who doesn’t judge.

A female constant? Is that like a babysitter?

…their facial expressions shift from angrily irritated to ... more. Frownless.

I’m sorry but frownless isn’t a word.

“Maddoc ... we need be careful.”

He glares down at me. This guy has perfected the art of intimidation. Not unlike my mother, he uses his body to get what he wants – fear, fight ... frisky.

This sentence should’ve ended at what he wants. Period. But nooooo, it has to be edgier like poetic like and now it's ruined.

I’m not going to quote every single error I found in this book. There isn’t enough space for it. I feel like when you don’t polish your work, it affects your storytelling. If you’re relating a story to me then the grammar thing can be ignored because you have your voice and your face can help tell your story to those listening.

A written story is another matter. Punctuation, grammar, syntax—they all make the story better not worse. So I don’t get why some authors are allergic to it. Editing your work isn’t going to ruin your story, it’s gonna enhance it.

What I’m trying to say is: HIRE A GODDAMN GOOD EDITOR!

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

’BOYS OF BRAYSHAW HIGH’ Is a full length ‘New Adult’ novel by new to me author ‘Meagan Brandy’ and is book#1 in her ‘Brayshaw High’ Series.

Seventeen year old Raven or Rae as she likes to be called is a tough, sassy mouthed, feisty, free spirited, fist fighting tough heroine. She’s been handed a shitastic life with a mother that could give two shits about her. She may be tough but she is one of the most likeable heroines to date, I loved her character. Raised in a trailer park with a hooker for a mother, Rae has street smarts down pat. I'm the daughter of a whore, dirty by default. Guilty by association With a take no shit attitude she gives back what is dished out, hence the reason why she has been expelled and removed from her third highschool in eighteen months,

and placed in a group home 'The Bray House' a girls only home for troubled teens Who am I? Just the latest trash dropped on a rickety doorstep with not a soul's back to lean against. Forever the unwanted outsider, something I've always told myself I was okay with. and where she now attends Brayshaw high that is run with an iron fist with boys you don’t want to cross. These are The Kings of Brayshaw High. Captain, Royce and Maddoc. Guys you do not want to mess with.

They're the big deal around here, and not just at the school. You either kneel at their feet or get stomped under them.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

They move together like a well oiled machine. They're connected on a deeper level than what outsiders eyes can see, they seem to know what the other is thinking. This must be a part of why they're loved and feared. Or secretly hated, but respected nonetheless. Because in the company of others they work as one.

I kind of signed up for this one on a whim, didn’t know what I was getting myself into, was I nervous, hell to the yes, I always am when I start a book by a new author to me, but omg this book guys, you need to read it, seriously this author went from an unknown, to getting put on my gps author stalker route on facebook, to this book right here becoming my first favourite book for 2019!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The sexual tension between Maddoc and Raven was off the charts hot, I loved the build up, the pages just sizzled with the frustration. When they finally connected my heart was full. I loved these two, their banter, his alpha all in her face attitude, god he had my heart from the get go.

I don't even have the words to convey how much I freaking LOVED this book, all the feels in the world, the stabby angst 🔪🔪 the high school a-holes, teenage drama, god this book was so so good!! Like seriously come release day, stop what your'e doing, throw a sicky do what ever you need to do to one click this and read it. I highly recommend this book. These characters need to be in your life, you won't regret it!!

'The Boys of Brayshaw High' was a pull at your heartstrings kind of book. I absolutely loved it. Every page pulled me in deeper and deeper. The characters were intricate and real. It had everything a romance reader could ask for. I for one can not wait to see what the next books bring us.

Slut-shaming, MFM scenes, teenagers speaking like adults, students acting like mafia...etc. Nope, not appealing to me at all.

And when I read in a review about the following scene, I LMAO :)

There is a ménage scene that happens with the heroine and 3 guys.

While they are stuck in an enclosed space in the dark, Raven (the heroine) has a panic attack. And the boys (including the hero) find the most appropriate solution to it!!!!!

One of them gives her an oral while the other plays with her tits and the third one kisses her.

I had 3 years' therapy for my panic attacks and the solution was that easy? Huh, I never knew!!!!

... Nope *with pop sound*.

If you love this book, don't read this review.

Another bullshit highschool drama I'm not interested. This is a BULLY romance, right? I don't think so. This is like a POSSESSIVE shit romance. Cliché and predictable. I didn't understand the point of the story, and I already finished half of it. Many nonsense and stupid decisions had been made, particularly the h.

The H was very obsessive and certified alpha male. Every. Damn. Time. The fact that he always inserted himself to h's business was infuriating. Could someone explain me why? Aside from the reason that he's the fucking "King" of Brayshaw that everyone should follow? Then why did he constantly tailed the h like a motherfcking paparazzo?

Furthermore, the issues between the Graven and the Brayshaw was kind of repetitive. It was mentioned twice or more by different personae who I already forgotten. I'm curious why, was that issue between them that important?

I'm out of battery now! That means I couldn't continue. Nevertheless, I liked the personality of h. I wish she has a different book with a different hero. And I just hope I'll never regret my decision, ever.

"You think you’re worth the time and energy for anything other than a quick fuck in the back seat?” he growls. “Because you’re not. You’re the one they settle for when the worthy pussy is tied-up somewhere else. Not the one they’d work for."

Yeah? I thought you're the pussy-whipped?

This book was, frankly, ridiculous.

The 17-year-old characters spoke and acted like they were in their 30s. FFS, the boys were called men. I've noticed this trend in romance authors who are writing about teenagers but want to emphasise the studliness of their heroes. NO!! You made them teenagers, now have them act the way real teenagers do!! Don't try to pass off their amazing sex skills by pretending they really are 'men.' They aren't.

(Source: am a teenager. Being 19, I suspect I recall more of the average 17-year-old's behaviour than Ms Brandy does.)

This book was like a bad ripoff of a Tijan novel, complete with insane melodrama and cringeworthy writing. I didn't get beyond 6% in, because my eyes were hurting too hard from rolling. Please, save yourselves.

First time reading this author!

I honestly went in blind, I wanted something edgy yet not overly complicated LOL and I ended up reading a book that made me relish every word on this journey, and damn, the fact that this is YA makes me wonder have I lowered the expectations bar! LOL

BUT really, I won't get into the plot, cause well, it's intertwined and complexly intense and I don't wanna spoil anything for those who decide to enter the world of Brayshaw High

the important references I will state here are these:

1. a badass heroine (she fights and stand up for herself, considering the utterly shitful and dysfunctional family she grew up in) Raven Carver, who ends up in a place that she needs to endure, but this place is run by different set of rules and by a different set of young power.
I may have a vagina, but I'm no pussy.

All I want is a life away from anyone who has ever heard my name, fucked my mom, or read my file.

2. the Brayshaw boys - Maddoc, Captain & Royce, my, my, my...what a fine specimen of complex nature we have here, these three could be summed up with this one line alone : family is more than blood and they stick to that like glue, loyal to the core, strong united and suddenly, this black haired/grey eyed feisty and strong beautiful creature struts in with a "fuck off" attitude and the troubles just keep pouring in...and not only the trouble they want to settle straight...

3. It has edgy, intense, steamy action filled with deep characterisation and these young people are complete witin the course of complexity yet refined layer of realism witin their age and pushing boundaries.

4. If you loved Tijan's Fallen Crest High series, and Penelope Douglas's Corrupt (Devil's night #1), you will most definitely enjoy this read.

RATING: 5 'Big Man & Snow' Hearts!

Boys of Brayshaw High is pure entertainment from beginning to end, each scene unfolding with cinematic-like mastery on page.

Raven in one word is admirable. She's kick-ass, literally and figuratively fighting her own battles against past foes and new ones while also balancing teenage drama and romance. No matter the situation—be it a tough childhood, physical fights, catty remarks from the quintessential high school mean girls, or bullying of the alpha-hole variety—she takes it all in stride and with her head held high. I simply loved this girl.

"Careful, big man," I whisper.
"That sounds a lot like a king falling. The ground isn't soft at my feet."

Maddoc, Royce and Captain are all deliciously different, but what makes them so appealing is how effortlessly their core beliefs about right and wrong align. They have created their own world, their own rules, and are adamantly strict in enforcing law and order, all with an unapologetic charm and fierceness. In particular, Maddoc's unyielding control clashes with Raven's brashness in a sensual dance that keeps us deliciously on edge, providing just enough angst to ensure we're emotionally involved even after the last page is flipped.

Overall, Boys of Brayshaw High easily earns a spot on our shelf of favourites with its magnificent characters and romance wrought with layers of sexual tension. Fans of Ms. Brandy and those new to her work—like myself—definitely do not want to miss this read!

MADDOC'S CAR HAS MORE PERSONALITY THAN HIM....

description

My Instagram - Miftahul_mslovesreading

Okay....this book was a BIG no no for me, and here is the problem...the writing style, how annoying the heroine is, and the hero has no personality. but first let me start off by saying the things I liked which is how strong Raven is, she knows how to take stand for herself and is not scared of anyone. I admire that so much because now a days in bully books the heroines are really weak, and here Raven is different. I liked the chemistry and the friendship between the three guys and Raven. Captain is my Favorite and I cant wait for his book though I hope he is better than Maddoc cuz the hero of this book is annoying and whiny as hell. Raven has more backbone than Maddoc, ugh the worst hero in the world except....he is hot, like really hot.

Okay so what I didnt like about this book is ....everything. I am not used to writing style like this which just jumps from one scene to another and the dialog delivery is so immature. Like I get it that they are highschool students but behave like mafia but the way they talk was like I am watching a Disney movie with porn in it.

Did i mention that this book is fully based on How different raven is from the other girls, her ass, and her boobs. So apparently, all the girls in Brayshaw High wants to fuck the three oh-so-18yr-old-boys-who-are-known-as-men, but guess what? Raven doesnt want to fuck anyone of them and thats why SHE IS DIFFERENT, I am telling ya all. Captain, Maddoc and Royce's character is only there to keep reminding raven that she is not like the other girls and the whole female population is jealous of her. 95% of their dialog is this and the other 5% is how they want to fuck her.

The guys literally have nothing else to do, Even Raven's ass and boobs has more contribution than the three guys. Their character is only mentioned to remind her that SHE IS NOT LIKE THE OTHER GIRLS.

description

I read so many reviews there it says Raven doesnt give a fuck to anything but what I read in this book was that she puts her nose in everyone's business. Did I read the same book as everyone else? Just asking.. She is also a hypocrite, The guys makes so many mistakes but she ignores that making some stupid excuse and blaming it on their parents, the system, the whole entire universe. But if a girl wants to sleep one of them or makes a mistake, she either hits them or threatens them.

I get it that Raven had a bad childhood and all she has learned it to fight if she wants to take whats hers, but she is really aggressive. She makes a big deal out of literally EVERYTHING. and shows her strength to the weak ones but cant do anything infront of someone who is stronger than her. UGH, i love strong heroines who shows Violence where its needed but here Raven hits any moving thing. .

And whats with the 18 yr old ruling the entire town? the school was fine but the WHOLE TOWN? I think the author forgot that they are still teenagers, and they behave like mafia. I swear they have more problems than the president. This book is Highly unrealistic and the characters are just some immature people who knows nothing about life but acts like the world revolves around them.

description

Did i mention that RAVEN IS DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER GIRLS? I guess I did cuz thats what the book is about. Other girls are sluts, bitches, and wants to sleep with anyone they see while OUR Raven is an angel. While the guys were supposed to be mysterious, moody, badass but in my opinion..they were none unless You count glaring, smirking, grinning like idiots, stalking, reminding a girl that she is DIFFERENT....badass. . TBH Maddoc's Car has more personality than him, all he does is glare at Raven. I think the author wanted to show his character as that moody guy who doesnt do relationships, only uses girls and blah blah but turns out his character is like a owl. doesnt talk, keeps glaring, and when he talks...bullshit comes out of his mouth.

let me remind you that Raven is a daughter of a whore...BUT YOU CANNOT CALL HER THAT! its funny how she doesnt give a fuck to "anything" as I heard and doesnt take bullshit but she cares that people call her daughter of a whore EVEN THOUGH ITS TRUE. Moral of the story : she cant handle the truth. . Their back story seriously hurt my brain, how stupid can someone's story be? it was like the guys were born during world war 2. The girl's mention in this book are all villains who wants the brayboys and hates raven, and nothing else. ALL THEY WANT IN THEIR LIVES IS TO BE A BRAYGIRL, thats like the biggest achievement anyone can get according to them. *eye roll.

huh, Last but not the least. STOP CALLING 18 YR OLD IMMATURE BOYS.. MEN! This book is just dramatic, better watch a movie than read this. ugh...the book cover is really pretty though.

Wowsa - what a way to start 2019!!! Definite 5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.

This book was EVERYTHING Angsty YA should be. It's definitely not a sweet YA story. Nope. It's a delicious, messed up, rip you apart kind of YA read.

Raven is the type of female character I love. Tough. Genuine. Feisty AF. She's also seriously damaged and complex - the author did a great job on Raven's backstory - I believed who she was and connected to her in a big way. I felt VERY protective of her by the end of the book and I might have threatened Meagan a little about some things I'm going to need from her in book two. Dammit.

The Boys - well the boys are PERFECTION! Talk about a tasty trio - these 3 are what book bullies are all about. These boys show that family is not always blood & not everything is as it seems. So much still to be revealed - this author likes to leave you wanting more (in the best possible way) and always writes the kind of endings that leave me screaming Noooooooo!!!

Definitely recommend this one.

I received an arc of this book.

I love them!! These characters have burrowed into my heart!! Endearing a**holes are my weakness, and I love these three. Plus, we get a heroine who is fierce with a backbone of steel.

The cherry on top is a story I didn’t want to end. Literally kept hitting my kindle hoping the pages would continue to turn!

Great bully romance.

I love books like this. It reminds me a bit of the Fallen Crest books when Sam, Mason and Logan were like one big family. This book begins with Maddoc, Captain and Royce as the kings of Brayshaw High and Raven “Rae” is the girl from the wrong side of the tracks that comes in to threaten their world since she just doesn’t have in her to bow down to them like everyone else in the school.

However, Rae ends up in the inner circle and part of their family like nobody ever has, though due to her background she continues to feel that it is only temporary and at some point she will be replaced by someone more deserving.

Raven’s mom was a prostitute and a drug addict. Throughout her life Rae’s worst fear is ending up like her mother. A lot of people think she already is and treat her like she is, so sometimes she acts like a slut or a hooker because it is easier to act that way then to let people know that the digs and comments hurt her.

Being with the boys has helped Rae quite a lot, but there are still issues. She is with Maddoc, but he does get jealous. Especially of her friendship with Bass Bishop, who used to schedule fights for her. Royce is hilarious and good friend to Rae. Captain needs her around more than she knows. There is also a big rivalry between another group which is getting in the way and a cliffhanger at the end.

2.5 stars

Boys of Brayshaw High seems like you either really love or doesn’t work for you. I really wanted to love it, but to be honest I’m not sure how I felt about it. As much as I was intrigued, I don’t think I really liked it and I spent so much of the book confused about what was really going on. Even though this was meh for me in a lot of ways, I won’t write off the second book because I am a bit curious to see what happens. Maybe if things get clarified I’ll enjoy it more than I did this one.

Boys of Brayshaw? More like I want them all😫🤭🦋 (ok ignore that cringe-ness I couldn’t resist💀)

The first book in the series and I’m obsessed, to say the least, and cannot wait to jump into the second book bc that cliffhanger has me on edge!!
🏃🏻‍♀️💨

Maddoc, Royce, and Captain run Brayshaw High and the entire town. They do what they want when they want, and nobody can tell them otherwise. They have the guys jealous/wary over them and all the girls want them and vying for even a fraction of their attention. Broody, alphaholes, sexy as sin, ✨basketball players✨, and brothers for life.

Then we get newcomer, bad bitch, feisty ass hell, independent, beyond strong, will beat your ass without a care in the world, Raven—who comes from the wrong side of town, raised in poverty by an abusive mom living with substance use disorder who sells her body to anybody with money and wanting to spend it, making her bad reputation bleed onto Raven (my heart breaks from what we learn so far about her upbringing and all she has been through😔)—who has just been enrolled into Brayshaw High and moved into a new house for troubled teens, after being kicked out of her last school for hitting a girl upside the head with a school lunch tray😀. She disrupts the whole social order going on in the school because she quite frankly doesn’t give a fuck whose toes she steps on especially when she fights back to stand up for herself against the rich preppy kids who fuck with her and attempt to bully her so ofc the kings of the school take notice because she’s trouble and that’s a problem for them.😏

I binged this first book so fast bc I could not get enough of the characters, their dynamics, the sexual tension/chemistry between Maddoc and Raven which had me swooning, melting, and is ohhh soooo HOT omfg🥵 (I want Maddoc for myself), Royce is the jokester/worrier/all about a good time, and Captain is the nurturer/pensive/silent guy. They ride for each other with no questions asked, and I love how protective they are of each other and especially of Raven (though not right away🤭).

There is a mystery/suspense element which has me very intrigued and curious to see how certain things are going to unravel and play out, just an overall great set up and plot so far, and amazing banter with a whole lotta back talk from Miss. Raven which I eat up.💅🏼 Something about a badass FMC who takes absolutely no shit and will not bend to anyone that’s gonna smack every time.😈

I had such high hopes going into this one, it's been all over my Goodreads and Facebook feed all week with mainly positive reviews. Unfortunately the extremely bad editing, or lack thereof, made it very difficult for me to enjoy what had the potential to be a good story.

Honestly, my brain hurts after trying to make sense of some of the sentences in this book. It was so bad.

Plus, I didn't particularly warm to either of the 2 MCs, and I'd go as far to say that the 2 other Brayshaw brothers were more interesting than the hero, because I didn't really learn anything about him at all. He hardly spoke!

Also, lots of slut shaming.

Not sure I care enough to continue with the continuing stories.

TL;DR
Badly edited, nonsensical, misogynistic

I really had to give this one a go after reading all the mixed reviews. Curiosity and all that...

I have got to say that I am a bit in between all the mixed reviews. I didn't hate it...but I wasn't blown away by it either, which was mostly because I had to suspend my disbelief quite a bit.

I mean where were all the adults in this book?? These 17-year-old teenagers were seemingly ruling a whole school and a town??

I also love my heroines to be on the strong, feisty and tough side, but Rae was a bit too much of a Lara Croft character for me to actually believe in her... She came across as fake and that's a shame because I think if things would have been toned down a bit...she would have ended up being one of my all-time favorite heroines.

The (sort of) threesome scene also really made me roll my eyes. If you're gonna do a hot threesome, do it for the right reasons and not for something lame like someone being scared of the dark... Again it also didn't come across as very believable, since Maddoc even had issues with other men looking at her, including his brothers. I thought it was hot but it didn't make any sense and it came a bit out of the blue as well...

But... I just rolled with it and tried to suspend my disbelief a bit further and found that I was actually enjoying this one, so I guess I will be jumping on to the next and see if I can make some more heads or tales out of this series ;)

I am going with 3,5 stars for this one

Dnf @ 36%

Is this midlife crisis, is that what this is? Why does everything suck?!

This book is a complete cluster fuck. It is so stupid, I really can't encompass how stupid it is. I feel a little bit to blame here, the title does say "Brayshaw High" after all, I should have expected highschoolers and just walked away. I wouldn't have had to suffer through the trauma of 36%.

The heroine, Raven was a moron. The hero,Maddoc was also a moron. They are a match made in moronic paradise. These two and the rest of the boys acted like the freaking mafia,no joke. I know high school is not all sunshine and roses but surely, surely it isn't like this. I didn't school in the US so I can't be sure.

They all read like grown ass men in their 30's or something not the teens they were suppose to be. It was creepy. Raven acting all super tough and then finding herself getting sucked in into what ever the guys were doing was moronic. Oh, I said that already.

I hope there's a sequel titled "Boys of Brayshaw Prison" , I might just read that one.

omg what just happened?!
What did I just read!?

Boys of Brayshaw is DIVINE! I could not stop reading. I was hooked from the get go.
This book kinda reminds me of the Fallen Crest series, which I absolutely LOVE!!!!
(To be honest, it reminds me of another book too but I can't put my finger on it... hmmmm)

Boys of Brayshaw is so edgy and the characters are so badass!
Raven is ...damn...that girl is super cool! So tough and feisty! I wish I was like her to be honest hahahaha
And the Boys of Brayshaw? Maddoc, Royce and Captain? Yowza!
I can't...I can't even begin to explain the hotness that is the Boys of Brayshaw.

I'll be honest, a part of me was all.. "Maddoc and Raven! you're on your way to becoming my OTP!" but then the other half of me is all "OMG! Ok...I change my mind. I hope these four get together (hehehe)" because oh my lord! their chemistry and bond is indescribable!

I freaking LOVED this book!
Highly Recommend it!

can I do the happy dance now? hehehe

I don’t know what you’re reading right now, but THIS BOOK is absolutely EVERYTHING! I can’t express how much you NEED TO READ IT! It’s one of the best starts to a series I’ve read! It’s juicy, dramatic, sexy, and utterly addictive. The characters demand attention and you can’t take your eyes off them. NEXT LEVEL ROMANCE GOODNESS!!!!!! 6 stars. EVERYTHING I want in a book, and OMG! Again, YOU NEED TO READ THIS! Trust me, the cliffy is worth it. It’s SO WORTH the ride. Those Brayshaw boys have ruined me, and Rae is one of the BEST heroines I’ve read. I’m in love with every detail of this one. Pick up a copy of Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Re reading it for the third time...
This time in audiobook.
Can't resist Maddoc's narration!

▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️▪️▫️

I loooove this book!
It's my third time reading /listening and is time to leave a review 😅😅.

As I'm always complaining (but always reading anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️), I'm a little tired of highschool bully romance...
Broad and well versed seventeen boys acting like men?
A lot of them over there.

This book is one of my exceptions (but the boys fit the stereotype).

Raven is the outcast dropped in the middle of a Kingdom ruled by three Kings. The boys of Brayshaw High.
They command not only the school, like usually happens in this trope, but also the entire city. So the story doesn't get stuck only in school grounds.... Thank God.

Maddoc is the grumpy.
Royce is the carefree.
Captain is the nurturer.

I loooove how they tried to hate Raven, just to end up obsessed in have her in their tight and small family circle.
Raven is a fighter but she's also a runner.
She didn't want to trust or to feel, but she ends up falling for Maddoc anyway.

I have to say that the Audiobook for this title is a perfect fit!
Raven's narrator is as feisty as her book character and Maddoc's is as intense and sexy as the original!

Since this is the first in the Brayshaw trilogy, it ends in a cliffhanger.

Ps.: This is not a Reverse Harem book.

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the story.
5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the Audiobook.

FIVE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️➕
HOT! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

In the end, the only way to walk away... is to make sure there’s nothing you’re reluctant to leave behind. To feel is to follow. And I’ll pave my path along no one’s steps but my own.

...family runs deeper than blood… family was a choice, not a burden of birth.

I. FLOVE. This. Book!!! Wow! I own several previous titles by Meagan Brandy already since she’s been on my radar for a bit, but this is actually the first time I've had the opportunity to read one of her books. Not by choice, but as a blogger my schedule is TIGHT and rarely do I get to veer from that. After reading The Boys of Brayshaw High? OMG! I'm soo hooked!!! And #SorryNotSorry Meagan Brandy, you will now have a super stalker on your hands.

"Watch out, Raven. Your little stunt today may have gotten the guys you’re used to off your back, but for these guys? All you did was paint the mark brighter.”

Now, as a rule, I am not a fan of YA books unless they are done right, and this book? It was done right on every level. This book is angsty A.F. and every encounter between The Boys—Maddoc (YUM!!!), Royce, and Cap—and Raven was dramatic, but in a way that just draws you deeper and deeper into the story. This isn’t a sweet story, and in fact, deals with some serious issues. Raven was feisty as hell and tough as nails. I seriously FLOVED her hardcore… The Boys? OMG. That was some seriously delicious heroes… Their relationship as brothers is about being family by choice and not birth. Their loyalty to one another unwavering. And I found Meagan Brandy plotlines surprising me at every turn as the nuances of complex characters were established within the story. The relationship between Raven and The Boys is a huge arch of the plot and as the story unfolds, that will become clear. Raven and Maddoc’s chemistry was intense. It was also like watching—or in this case, reading—constant fourplay because every. Single. Encounter just amps you up. It made the story sexy A.F. Now, the seXXXy times were hot, no lie, but you’ll have to suffer for a hot minute before they happen because this story is a slow burn read. BOBH is the first of a duet so it’s setting the stage for book two, Trouble at Brayshaw High, which is scheduled to release in the Spring of 2019. Be forewarned, it does end on a cliffhanger. And what a cliffhanger it is! Seriously, Meagan is going to owe a lot of readers new kindles after they chuck them when BOBH ends abruptly. A note about me and cliffhangers. I hate them! HATE THEM WITH A PASSION! But damn, sometimes you have to give an author credit for their skills… and Meagan Brandy certainly has them. She will have you hooked before you finish the first chapter. And good luck walking away from this story. My kids got pizza two meals in a row because I didn’t want to put my kindle down. [Thank God for Delivery! 😉]

There was a lot of this book that I just loved. It was a nonstop rush in my opinion. The characters really grabbed my attention and Raven and the Boys progression? Well done. Raven’s characters history broke my heart. And I have a feeling we’ve just got the tip of the ice burg, you know? Meagan did a phenomenal job weaving this story together and as horrific as it is that I have to wait for the second book to release, I also can’t help but applaud her for the creativity and truly unpredictable nature of this story. I couldn’t give this book less than 5 STARS if I tried. Grab your copy NOW! Don’t wait for your first Meagan Brandy read like I did. Ugghhhh, I regret that soooo much right now!

Excerpt:
Other than the obvious banging body, Raven’s got that ‘fuck you and your world’ attitude - something we’re not used to. It only adds to her appeal. She’s sexy, likes to argue, and breaks the mold we’ve set. But it’s more than that. There’s something about her that screams at me something deep inside me, only I have no idea what. She’s almost a mystery, one I need to unravel ... with my teeth. Like I said, she’s trouble. Problem is, I like the taste of trouble.

"Big and bold, fearless by nature and loyal by choice."

Seriously? This books should come with a warning! Meagan Brandy found a way to put some invisible glue between the lines that will keep your eyes on the pages, turning them until you suddenly finish reading without even realizing what just happened. I finished this book at 6 in the morning and was lucky I didn't have to work. I just couldn't put it down. Boys of Brayshaw High is a top level page turner!

My first book by Meagan Brandy got me hooked. The last time I felt this kind of rush while reading was with Drive by Kate Stewart. Although those books couldn't be anymore different.

If I had to describe this book, I'd say: Take a little bit out of The Royals series by Erin Watt, a piece out of the Fall Away series by Penelope Douglas and a pinch out of the Beautiful/The Maddox Brothers series by Jamie McGuire. Mix it well, bake carefully and you are rewarded with this unicorn rainbow cake of Boy of Brayshaw High.

"There's something about her that screams at me something deep inside me, only I have no idea what."

What else can I say about this book if the above wasn't enough to get you on board already?

The boys are easy to love with their mysterious but oh so charismatic vibes. Hearts of gold hidden behind walls for self-protection. I totally love their group dynamic and selfless love for each other. It's easy to fall and root for them.
The complex heroine, Raven, just captured my heart in a storm. She's fierce with an impressive backbone, she's tough, genuine and feisty. A combination that made me fall in love with her right away. Raven is pretty admirable, specially when you learn about her past and how damaged and broken she really is.

"Like I said, she's trouble. Problem is, I like the taste of trouble."

Boys of Brayshaw High is a very delicious, intense, sexy, gripping and messed up Young Adult read that will rip you apart. It will get you addicted to the characters and speed up your heart rate from the first page to the last.

One last thing: THIS ending is seriously killing me! The next book can't come soon enough!

Five Bray stars for Raven, Maddoc, Royce and Captain 💜💜💜!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Where do I start, after I reviewed "Trouble at Brayshaw High" the second book in this series?!

Yeah, that only can happen to someone like me 😜!

So, let's go from the beginning...

This is the first book I've read by Meagan Brandy and...

I won't say that I loved it because that would be a lie and I don't like lying to people, especially when I write about books.

I adore this book so much that the first time when I will order my package from Amazon there will be this series (probably all three books because by then "Reign of Brayshaw" will be available).

Yes, I love that much this book that I want to own paperback copy!

Honestly, I didn't read the blurb before I decided to read it. I only knew that is YA with some bully elements and rich kids. So, I gave it a chance.

Before that, for the first time, I found out about this series on Instagram when I saw that a few bookstagrammers wrote about these books and how much they loved them.

Then I went here, which is from the one side mistake and from the other good thing (if you're like me). When I saw that some people really, truly dislike this book, I knew that I need to read it because I probably like it (or love it 😁).

"Boys of Brayshaw High" is the book which becomes your obsession from the first page.

The book counts around 400 pages but I felt like it was only 100 because when you're reading an interesting book you forget about time, about a place and everything.

And that happened to me.

I had a feeling that I was in Raven's skin and that rarely happens to me.

So, you know what that means 😉!

I really don't know whose I love more... Raven and the three boys stole my heart and I got it back.

Raven is the female character for which you hope that can be your best friend because of her self-confidence and that she always says what she thinks.

And after all, protects the people that means something to her (even she won't admit that).

From the other side, boys are the perfect picture of bad boys, but they so much more than that and their protective attitude for Raven showed that.

I'm glad that I gave the chance to this book because I found a new author, Meagan Brandy, whose books I will read with pleasure ❤!

If you're looking for a book that you'll read in one day and that makes to want more, this book is absolutely perfect for you!

Highly recommended!!!

***4,5 "Family runs deeper than blood!!!" stars***

Welcome to Brayshaw High!

Have i ever mention that I'm hating cliffhangers??? Yep, i have!!! Many, many times!!!
Still I'm drown to them like a moth to the fire and I'm after them... Bahahaha...
And now, for once again, i probably gonna die until the next book!!! Arrrr....
Gawd, this book was soooooo good!!! It was refreshing in a way...
And it reminded me other favorite books, but at the same time it was so different....
But in case you liked the Fallen Crest High series by Tijan or the Royals by Erin Watt, please be my guest and try this book and you will not lose!!!!

""Girls like you aren't exactly welcomed at a place like this, so keep your head down and look the other way."
Those were the exact words of my social worker when she dropped me in my newest hellhole, a place for "troubled teens".
I didn't listen, and now I'm on their radar."

The blurb has spoken loud and clear...
Raven is a troubled teenager and with good reasons, i may add... And now, she is forced to leave the life that she knows behind and to move in a different house, in a different school... And there she is meeting with the Brayshaw boys and their stupid rules...
Rules that her independent self and wild side will never accept and follow....
And there are starting the real problems!!!

"We make the rules and you follow... like a good little girl," he whispers all dirty like.
It's sexy, I'll give him that but he's patronizing me, the shithead...
"I hear you, big man," I whisper..."You're strong, I'm weak. You're the king, and I'm the peasant. Anything else?"

The Brayshaw boys aka Maddoc, Captain and Royce are the kings of the school... They are above everyone else in there and everybody wants to be in their good sides, so they are following the rules... And then, this strange girl came into their lives and brought everything upside down...
They wanted to punish her, to keep her in line and at the same time, they were craving her near them...
Oups!!! Nope!!! It's not what you are thinking now!!!! Your dirty minds!!!!
But i can not say more.... The story was big with much background, awful shits and beautiful things!!!! And no i can not say anything else!!!!

"Get out of my face," I hiss.
"Get out of my head."

I loved Raven very much... She was badass and feisty and stubborn and fearless.... She wasn't trusting other people and she was watching behind her back all the god damn time... She was refusing to bow down to three assholes that thought they were the top of the world and i admired her for that reason...
But at the same time, she was drown to them, especially Maddoc.... And she was feeling protective of them and in a way, that characteristic of hers, pulled her into their world...
Will she accept her role in their lives or she will remain stubborn and do her thing??? And with what consequences???

"Fear isn't my style. I don't show it, fight not to feel it, but at the end of the day, fear is the very thing that keeps me up at night."

"Here, they're not three boys who need more, they don't smile at donuts, or enjoy the rain.
Here, they're the Boys of Brayshaw and nothing else.
So why did I get to see a little from the inside?
An even better question, why does it make me feel... I don't know how i feel."

Well, i loved the boys so damn much!!!! A little bit more Maddoc, big man, i think!!!
They were so bound together.. They were brothers who were loyal to each other... Together, they could achieve anything in the world, but unfortunately, they had serious enemies who were there all the damn time...
Raven became a problem for them from the first problem and they really tried to put her on line with various, nasty attemps, but she managed to get under they skin and to become something vital for all of them...

"Raven's got that 'fuck you and your world' attitude -something we're not used to. It only adds to her appeal.
She's sexy, likes to argue, and breaks the mold we've set.
But it's more than that. There's something about her that screams at something deep inside me, only I have no idea what. She's almost a mystery, one I need to unravel... with my teeth.
Like I said, she's trouble.
Problem is, I like the taste of trouble."

Maddoc was the leader between them... He wasn't speaking much and he was always so serious...
Captain was the one that was taking care of the others... He was such a sweetheart....
Royce was the clown and the manwhore of this bunch.... But it was impossible not to love him from the first moment...
Together they were a complete unserapable unit... Their love and loyalty was what was keeping them together and Raven managed the three of them to become four....
Even though they didn't fully trust her, they gave her everything they could....

"You're down for us, Raven, even when you try to pretend you're not."

"This is where you're meant to be. You're a part of us, that means we handle our problems as a team."

As you can pick up from above, Raven came closer with Maddoc and their relationship were full of anticipation in my part and completely explosive....
I liked very much the slow burn for the most part of the book between them... Lately, very often, I'm getting bored if the heroes got really quick together... I lose my interest, but here, that wasn't the case... Those two had their hot moments, but because they were both hotheaded as hell, they were ruining everything again and again and that was delightful to watch... Bahahaha....
They were feisty and stubborn, but they were fitting so good together!!!!

"You should admit it now."
"Admit what?"
"That you want me."
"You think I won't admit it, big man? You're wrong. Do I want you?... When you're pushed up on me like this? Hell yeah, I do."
She makes quick work of pulling away and starts walking backward.
"But when you're a few feet away, the fog wears off and it all goes to normal."
"Yeah." I meet her every step back with one forward. "And what's normal?"
"Normal is you needing power, and me refusing give it."

"If someone tries to hurt you, I need you to tell me."
"I can't do that."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm not your problem."
"BE my problem."

And then came that ending and god, i didn't like it at all...
I'm wondering what will happen next...
My lovely boys (Her boys!!!!) will be devastated!!!
I totally understood why Raven had to do what she did, but still... I think that she was reckless...
Many times in the book, i didn't like how she was keeping things from them, because i think that if she was up front, together could find a solution... But nope, this stubborn girl had different opinion..
So, now, i'm fumming inside from the agony until the next book!!!!

"You need to learn how to stop and think before acting. I know, in your life, You're accustomed to new people coming in and out, but maybe this is the first time you found some that you don't completely hate being around. Those boys, they're more than meets the eye. They need someone to care about and you fit more than you want to admit."
"I don't want it to be me."
"Why?"
"Because I had no plan to stay around."
