Excellent collection of stories from those who fled Jersey as the Germans threatened to invade in the early summer of 1940. Many are recollections from people who were children at the time and some of the most moving are among those, especially when you read of the abuse some suffered when they returned in 1945. It seems that many islanders who stayed were not very charitable towards those who, often for very good reasons, decided to leave before the Germans arrived.
