About the author

Kitty Berry

Kitty Berry grew up an only child who never wished for a sibling in a small town in Connecticut. After graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Special Education, she began teaching in the field and started to raise a family. Her literary influences happened later in life when she stumbled upon The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve after seeing it featured on the Oprah Show. It was her late mother’s (whose name she uses as a pen name) desire of becoming a writer that prompted Kitty to create a contemporary romantic series.
Being a creative person by nature who came into writing during a time in her life when the busy balance of career and family made her crave an escape into the world of romance, Kitty took that desire and turned it into a romantic series that offers the reader multidimensional characters.
In 2013, she published her first novel from The Stone Series, Sliding. Since then she has written 10 other novels in that series, among them Stoned, Second Chances, Surrender, Starting Over, and Silence. The final installment, Survivor was released in 2016. A holiday edition was released in late 2018.
Since then, Berry has released a trilogy titled, The Anatomy of Love and written a carry-over stand-alone novel, Vines of Ivy. In 2019, she released the Compatible Companions Trilogy.
Because angst-ridden, plot-driven, women's contemporary romances mesmerize Kitty, Berry writes only in that genre. While each book in The Stone Series can stand alone with its own story, Berry’s intention was to create carry-over characters to satisfy the need of the reader to know more after each novel ends. As an avid reader herself, Kitty enjoys the feeling of being there with the characters inside the story and often finds herself wanting to know more about them, missing them when the story is over, and becoming excited all over again when she discovers those familiar characters in subsequent novels. It is her hope that The Stone Series will do the same for her readers.
Kitty is married to a man she met in graduate school and has three boys who are almost men.
Kitty recently founded RomantiConn (a romance author signing event annually held in CT) and is currently working on the Falls Village anthology hybrid with her fellow RomantiConn authors.

Second Chances is Book 4 in the Stone Series. I have not read the first 3 books. This book focuses on Pete Roman and Raina Montgomery.

I can’t say if they were in the previous books but there are characters in this book that you know were in earlier works and characters that will be in future books. I was still able to follow the story easily enough so by not having read the earlier books works but I am curious as to some of the characters so will have to check them out.

Raina was the girl across the street from Pete. They didn’t grow up together like many second chance stories occur. They met in their late teens early twenties and there is a four year time span from when they meet again.

Pete is a major douchebag. He has this friends with benefit relationship with Raina but has no issues telling her about or letting her see all the other women he is with. He does have secrets he isn’t willing to share until his friends convince him he needs to stop being the douchebag he is being and come clean, but it is too late. Raina has left town.

They are reunited four years later when the group of friends get together for one last adventure at the beach house they would go to often in the earlier days. This will be the last reunion the gang has because one of them has a terminal illness and he doesn’t have much time left. Being together is forcing them to recall the events of the past and while doing this will the ghosts of the past be too much to overcome or will Pete and Raina have their second chance?

These friends are close, even though for the four years they went on and did other things you can see how they are a tight group that shares practically everything.

The book does not have chapters and is told in various points of view, mainly being Pete and Raina’s but some of the gang have a spot. The story flips from the present to the past and back and forth. It has a easy flow and we do get to experience certain events from both POV’s which is nice to know how both Pete and Raina experienced the same event.

There is plenty of sex in the book and they are pretty steamy but at times I felt like it was a bit much for what was going on.

It was emotional ride especially with the one friend having the terminal illness and knowing he is going to die. Spending that last month or so with him was rough but the way the story is written there is plenty of humor to offset the sadness.

I really enjoyed this book and if it wasn’t for a few things that I felt were repeated I would easily be able to give it 5 stars. I will be reading the next couple books in the story and am looking forward to them.

I knew I would love this book before I even started it. I have fallen in love with all the characters in this "Stoned" series and Pete Roman was no exception! This story broke my heart and made me cry but also made me smile. Second Chances focuses on Pete and his true love Raina. They were young when they fell in love and didn't know what they had until it was too late. Fate always brought them physically close to one another whether they knew it or not. They were always drawn together like magnets. Pete and Raina along with their other group of childhood friends all meet at a beach house to spend time with their dying friend Todd. Here old feelings reignite and the power of love proves to be stronger than anything else. I also loved the storyline with Todd and Amanda and even in death there was something positive. I don't want to give much away....just to say this book had a lot of emotion, loving characters and great steamy sex scenes. You will fall in love with Pete Roman. We were also introduced to Nix and I can't wait to read more about this sexy Brit in the next book. Oh!!!! and I have to mention that the sexy Damian Stone also makes appearances in Second Chances and he is swoon-worthy as usual.

Awesome job Kitty Berry:))))

Instead of posting a review of my own book I would like to take this chance to share with you the dedication and acknowledgments from this book:

This book is dedicated to the estimated 4,000 children who will be diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2013*. In 2002, my son was one of them.

Acknowledgments
To my son, Josh who at the age of two showed me what it truly meant to be a fighter. Josh was diagnosed with an astroblastoma that brought with it a poor prognosis. Today Josh is like every other thirteen year old boy obsessed with basketball and social networking. You really are my miracle boy, Josh!

To my childhood friend, Todd, who was taken from this world way too young. Todd, you were always the light of our group. Your humor and good spirit will always be remembered.

A special thanks to Tina Bell, Sirenda McNece and Angelina Tadic. Three great women who agreed to read this novel before it became what you are about to read. Your insights and honesty mean the world to me. Thank you for helping to make Second Chances something I can be proud of.

* In 2013, approximately 4,300 children younger than age 20 will be diagnosed with primary brain tumors, of which 3,050 will be under age 15.

Thank you to everyone who has given one or more of my books a chance :)

This is a beautiful well written second-chance love story about Pete Roman and Raina Montgomery a Hollywood star. The author captivates us with the foley of Pete's youth and how he let Raina getaway and the lengths he will go to in order to rekindle that love. The telling of the loss of Pete's friend Todd is done with such compassion and is so heartbreaking. I love that Damian Stone and Mac played a part in this fantastic story. Absolutely love this story. I wish I could give it a 10.
