திருவாசகம் சைவ சமயம் வழி வாழும் மக்களால் ஒரு தெய்வ நூல் என்றே போற்றப்படுகிறது. இன்றும் இந்தத் தெய்வ நூலைப் பூஜை அறையில் வைத்து வழிபடுவது மரபு. "திருவாசகத்துக்கு உருகாதார், ஒரு வாசகத்துக்கும் உருகார்" என்பது சான்றோர் சொல். மாணிக்கவாசகருக்குச் சிவபெருமான் குருவடிவாகக் காட்சியளித்து, தீட்சை வழங்கி மறைந்தார். மறைந்த இறைவனை மீண்டும் பெறவேண்டி மனம் உருகி உருகிப் பாடியுள்ளார். மாணிக்கவாசகர் அருளிய பெரும் நூல்கள் இரண்டு: 1.திருவாசகம்; 2. திருக்கோவையார். இந்துக்கள் வேதநூல்கள் நான்கும் வடமொழியில் இயற்றியவை. இதற்கு இணையாகத் தமிழில் உள்ள நூல்களே திருமுறை மற்றும் நாலாயிர திவ்யப் பிரபந்தம். சைவ சித்தாந்தத்தில் திருமுறையே தமிழ் வேதமெனப் போற்றப்படுகிறது.

About the author

Manikkavacakar (or MaanikkaVaasagar) was a 9th-century Tamil poet who wrote Tiruvasakam, a book of Shaiva hymns. He was one of the main authors of Saivite Tirumurai, his work forms one volume of the Tirumurai, the key religious text of Tamil language Shaiva Siddhanta. A minister to the Pandya king Varagunavarman II (c. 862 C.E. – 885 C.E.) (also called Arimarthana Pandiyan), he lived in Madurai. His work is a poetic expression of the joy of God-experience, the anguish of being separated from God. Although he is a prominent saint in Southern India, he is not counted among the sixty-three nayanars.

Disappointing

There are so many mistakes. Obviously the work was not compared with earlier printed editions. It is better the book is updated.
