Can a cyborg let go of the wife he lost and make a stowaway his bride?
There’s a problem on the Gypsy Moth. The chief of engineering has found a stowaway. A tiny one that tucks easily under his chin with the biggest damned eyes he’s ever seen—and a way of tugging at a mechanical heart he thought broken.
Ghwenn has secrets, which is why she’s on the run and hiding. When her enemies catch up to her, she finds an unlikely hero in the cyborg that refuses to hand her over.
This is a stand alone romance with a happily ever after.
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I got to page 43 and just couldn't take it. I would have liked this book when I first started reading sci-fi romance, but it just wasn't my cup of tea today.
Sci-fi futuristic romance. Crank’s first wife died and he doesn’t want to let go of his memories. Being in charge of the stowaway, Ghwenn was not going to change his mind. But he finds himself fascinated.
Many references to other series and characters but easy to follow as a standalone. Fun but lacked depth. This couple just didn’t click with me. I will read the next in the series because I do love this authors humor and wacky storytelling.
This is part of a trilogy in the In the Stars Romance series.
First Mate's Accidental Wife The Cyborg's Stowaway The Captain's Secret Daughter
Book 1 and 2 were not enjoyable to me. They've got dubcon, power imbalances, misogyny. I think this author thinks that a man calling a strange woman "sweetheart" is actually a real term of endearment. When she mentioned it in book 1, I thought it was surely sarcasm, but then she says it again in book 2. Book 1 also goes out of it's way to describe that human servants were having a great time being diddled by the aliens. These are far from the only instances.
Book 3 was okay for me actually. The prisoner thing felt more justified because mfc did commit a terrible crime. And even so, it felt like she had more agency over herself and the story. The premise was just weird as hell, too. Points for creativity there.
3.5⭐️ I like this one a bit more than the first but not enough to make it higher. These two characters were very interesting and although the story was super short I still really liked it. If it were full-length I’d have ate it tf up. There was some grief stuff that could have been handled a lot better if not for the length of the book but for what it was they did a good job.
Oh my goodness what to say about this novel, firstly this didn’t seem like a book written by Eve Langlais. It didn’t have any of her usual funny dialogue, witty conversation, spunky leading ladies even the intense passion that usually takes place between the main characters. To me the relationship between the main characters felt forced and not believable at all. Craig Abrams or Crank as he like to be called was just too cold hearted and unfeeling for me to believe in their relationship. It wasn’t until the very end of the story that he actually admitted his feelings for her and even in doing so he was a bit brash at the beginning of his so called confession. He treated her quite coldly and said some very harsh and hurtful things to her when he compared her to his late wife which would’ve had me dumping his sorry ass to be honest much sooner than all she put up with. I found Ghwenn’s character to have been a bit of a pushover and quite honestly he took the words right out of my mouth when he called her pathetic for throwing herself at a man that didn’t want her! That was exactly what I was thinking of her at that moment as I read that scene. I kept thinking woman have some pride in yourself and just walk away from him, make him realize what he’d lose if he lost you. Thank goodness that at least in one particular scene she had gotten so mad at him that she actually let him have it and told him some hard truths to his face having to be a little cruel with the things she said to him as they had to do with his dead wife. Also the love scenes between them left a lot to be desired, they were fast paced moving from one thing to the other without any proper details making the scene not flow well and the passion between them unfulfilling. Also the descriptions were so old-fashioned for example instead of saying her clit it would say her button, her vagina was her sheath/flower/channel, his cock a velvety steel length and when they had sex it was referred to as coitus um has someone been watching to much ‘The Big Bang Theory’ lol. The sex scenes themselves jump from one moment to the next, for example in a shower scene one minute he’s getting up the next he’s doing her??? Um exactly how did that happen? When did he position her and how? Yeah things just didn’t flow smoothly. And apparently he ‘vibrated’??? Yeah there’s no explanation by him or her of why that was, it just happened just like we aren’t given a broad description of him only that he’s got scars, broad shoulders and thighs, what about any ab action or any massive weaponry? It’s implied by her but that’s all the details we get. Towards the end of the story Gwhenn gets ballsier and taught him a lesson he greatly deserved and that epilogue was sooooo short. It reveals something so important and we couldn’t even get his reaction to it not really and something nagged at me; how did she know? I mean they’d only been together for about a week but surprise surprise were not told that either.
This is the second book in the Gypsy Moth series. It is a quick, simple read that is in the same style as book one. It is advertised as a possible standalone but that may be pushing it somewhat. I did not care for the repetition of exact descriptions of certain aspects to the world that the author built, which were already known from book one.
It contains a couple of bad editing errors possibly from an auto correct program but that leave the reader in limbo having to figure out what was meant by a paragraph or a couple of sentences with words/phrases that make no sense. I love the concept of this story and the incredibly unique male and female lead characters. The sex scenes are brief and in the authors normal style which I find to be somewhat formulated.
This installment may be a 'standalone' in the mind of the author, but without reading book 1 and 2 I'm sure book 3 would make little sense. This book did interest me enough to be motivated to read book 3, The Captain's Secret Daughter.
Craig “Crank” Abrams runs the Gypsy Moth’s heart, and keeps the ship working properly. Unfortunately his own heart is closed since he lost his wife. But he likes it that way, and it goes along with his metal cyborg parts that saved his life. His nanobots repair any damage, and keep him working properly. When a stowaway is discovered on board, he wants to toss her out through the airlock. He doesn’t need any complications in his life or on his ship. Captain Jameson has other ideas, and orders Crank to guard the prisoner.
Ghwenn is on the run from her family and a forced marriage. She uses her mental abilities to get her way with most beings, but hits a brick wall with Crank. With him being resistant to her mental commands, she has to try to find another way out of her predicament. She can tell he’s attracted to her, but he refuses to act on it. But Ghwenn manages to wiggle past his defenses, and get into his metallic heart.
What will Crank do when her people show up to get her back? How can he give up this little pixie who has come to mean a great deal to him? Well, the craziest solution usually works!
Eve Langlais loves to play with words and alternative spellings which just adds to the laughs throughout this book. This series is yet another winner!
Well...that was amusing. Although...if the nanotech in the original cyborg series meant that they don't die, and this is quite a bit into the future and the beings hunting the nanos are hunting cyborgs...
Anyway...the implications in book one were that something happened to people in engineering that made them less...human. That wasn't quite the case apparently with the H. He'd been gravely injured, and his wife killed in an attack 4 years prior. The captain had gotten him...repaired...and introduced him to the nanos. He's put himself on ice. He didn't want to survive, nor does he feel like moving on.
The h...is an elf. I was bemused by that as usually elves are the domain of fantasy, but this is a futuristic. Oh well; might as well run with it. She stows away to avoid a fate worse than death - being forcibly married to the king of whatever court she was from. Why was this a bad thing? Oh...he's her father... She is unable to control the H, or the captain (she has mind control abilities), so...
Much manipulation later, her father's envoy finds them and...the captain cons the H into marrying her.
I mean; it is entertaining. And short. Not very deep either. Yay?
“Crank” is hard-core. He may have once been human but with so many Cyborg parts, he is cold and keeps everything in check. Until a small stowaway gets his attention. Ghwenn is running from her father’s plan. She will not be used. She ends up on the Gypsy Moth and found by Crank. She tries to sway him but it doesn’t work. But looking into his eye she sees her destiny.
You have to feel for Crank. He didn’t have all that much time with his wife before she was ripped away from him. But holding on for that long, so sad. These two are so funny. With her pushing all his buttons and him just egging her on, boy are they a pair. You just can bet the sexual tension is riding on a slow simmer and is going to boil over red hot. I do love when the “pixie” confronts him with his emotions for his then wife and what it all means. That was a slap in the face.
To read the whole review, check it out here: https://wickedcoolflight.net/2018/11/... So the Cyborg is just in a really bad mood all the time, so when he’s taken with the stowaway, it’s a bit surprising. Ghwenn knows how to handle Crank and get him to realize he doesn’t have to be miserable forever and that he is allowed to have a second time around in the romance department. It takes her a lot of work to convince him though. Then there is her father. She just wants a quiet life with a man she can love. And, the best part is Craig can’t be manipulated by her telepathy powers, so she knows for sure he loves her just the way she is. I’m also giving this one a 4.5 of 5.
Craig Abrams is a curmudgeon’s curmudgeon. That’s why the Gypsy Moth’s crew call him “Crank” and he”s proud to live up to the name. He’s got his reasons. Then the elf princess runs away from a King Daddy-decreed royal wedding and stows away aboard Crank’s ship. She has her reasons. The remainder of the story is infused with guilty insta-list, hot sex, grief-induced and testosterone-fueled stubbornness, pillow talk with snark sauce, and the oddest of HEA endings - one where trickery and deceit actually prevail. And the rather standard SF romance plot may be predictable, but it’s also highly entertaining.
This is a very short ‘love’ story between a woman on the run and a very cranky Cyborg who goes by ‘Crank’ for his abhorrent personality.
The two bicker relentlessly, and the Crank is more like a whiny lovesick adolescent than a scary Cyborg.
The chemistry was forced and the story was not original or well executed.
I love space romance and will let many annoyances slide, especially if there are Cyborgs and/or space pirates, but this book was so pathetically bad I couldn’t rate higher than a 2. There’s even brief mention of space pirates. The story alludes to some action, space pirates, Crank’s bad-assery- but it’s all talk and no action. My least favorite kind of plot.
Ghwenn stows away in order to save herself from a fate she doesn’t want. Crank is the cyborg in charge of keeping the Gypsy Moth running smoothly. And stow aways are never tolerated.
Holding onto his grief and anger mean that Crank is a bear of a man. Ghwenn challenges that anger and grief, making him want things he believes he’s not entitled to. I could feel his pain, his dilemma written into this book. They are an interesting couple together, each challenging the other. There’s a lot of held onto anger and pain in this book, but also healing.
I loved this story! Although it is the second in a series, it can be read as a standalone. It is so good, smooth writing, deep characters, an interesting story and emotional depth. I loved Gwhenn's spunk and how she knew her own mind, and also everyone else's too, lol. Crank is such a sympathetic character that he deserves the shake up that she delivers. I stayed up late to finish reading it, I couldn't put it down! Yes, I am a huge Eve Langlais fan but her books are just so good. Read this one, you'll agree with me.
Great entertainment! I love this grumpy take-no-prisoners cyborg! His little, talented elf-like stowaway tweaks just about every button he’s got! All she wants is to get away from a repulsive wedding she’s being forced into. I had such fun watching them together. It doesn’t take long for Ghwenn to break through some of those tough cyborg defenses. They still have to fight off those pesky Driadalys who want her back (or dead...). Fast paced, entertaining, humorous, and, yeah, lusty! Read and enjoy!
Pixie and Crank. I’m not even sure how they both survived, let alone became a couple. Crank is surly, mean, stuck in the past, and vulgar. Ghwenn is a lady, as well as pampered, spoiled, entitled, and selfish. The two together cannot get along, until they get between the sheets. The surprises, twists, and hits kept coming, and I couldn’t put the book down, devouring it in one sitting.
I jumped on this when I read the first chapter and a half and got sucked in. So I instantly bought it. Plus, I love Eve’s books. I think this is the first cyborg book I’ve read, and I totally loved the ornery cranky human/cyborg. He was a total bad a**. And she just cracked me up with her mischief and deviousness. Very much loved this! Give it a read!
Craig lost the love of his life the day he lost his arm and heart. His captain saved his life using cyborg technology. Now known as Crank, he finds a female hiding in the cargo they picked up. Ghwenn has a secret as to why she is running and hiding. Unfortunately, according to Crank, he starts to feel something toward the annoying passenger. Loved this book. Can't wait for the next installment.
I am addicted to Eve Langlais's books. They are always so much fun to read. They have everything you could want in a book. Danger, humor, action and sexy encounters. This book pits an altered human and an elf princess who has run away from an impending marriage she does not want. Loved it!!!
A short fun read, an Elf running, hiding from her fate in life choosing something different. A cyborg intent to honor a memory and be miserable the rest of his long life. A story to tell the grandkids one day how grandpa was going to shoot grandma out the airlock. I am really liking the series about weird matches on the Moth I think you'll like them too.
I didn't quite get the chemistry between the two. It seemed to go from "I love my wife" to "I'm attracted to this pixie"...there was no build up, just the constant guilt. So it fell flat for me.
