Awesome tips, really informative and guides you through all the way.

A little long, but that's ok.

Probably more of a high-score draw than a win for me overall. It has its moments certainly, their access to genuine world sporting greats from mainly New Zealand and Ireland gives the book real colour and credibility. Some really interesting quotes, stories and insights from people you’ve actually heard of.

And most of the theory and frameworks for approaching competitiveness are clear and well-described. No issue with the topics covered really.

So, score a couple of goals for those parts.

But, there’s definitely some misses in here too.

You can almost sense that there was more than one author behind this, as the style seems to switch unexpectedly in places, and so at times it can feel quite disjointed and unconnected. Maybe some better editing would have joined the seams of the narrative a bit more clearly.

There’s constant references to the tools of winning, but they’re not really explained much until the glossary at the end. So you either need to work them out from the context each time, or constantly jump back and forth to the glossary which makes for quite a disjointed read.

And at times, it feels padded out with long lists of things to do and try. And lots of references to other leadership and management books that if you are into this topic, you probably know a lot of the content already. So, it was missing a little bit of new thinking and originality.

Kind of interesting to read the sporting stuff, but nothing especially stand-out or memorable in terms of the strategies for winning.

So I am a fan of personal development books as I get a lot of them and Win : Proven Strategies for Success in Sport, Life and Mental Health is no exception. Using the stories of successful athletes adds authentication of the strategies and that you can not only apply these strategies on the sporting field but also in the office or at home. From building success to coping with lows and developing resilience, it is a worthy read.
