I am a Croatian multi genre indie author. Adrenaline stories, mysteries and thrillers are my favorite. If you are a fan of series, I recommend my mystery drama book The Seller of Sins. Since 2024 I am collaborating with Red Cape Publishing. My horor thriller " A dream about White Rabbit" got an audio version.
We have all been through the "black sheep" period, whether in the family, in society or somewhere. This book gives us a lot of good tips and explores ways to feel better about yourself.
The book "What does it mean to be a black sheep?" by Kristina Gallo is a little book with lots of good advice and thoughts. It is not really hard for me to be a black sheep because I did not fit in many standards that were prescribed. But if you're different, often in an environment where you live people who look you through the mold it creates certain prejudices. But they have to accept or not accept that each of us is an island if you accept anything that you can then get to the island and enjoy the surroundings. If not, then you obviously do not like the coast that can be full of reefs at times. Being different does not mean someone who does not communicate with people, because there is always someone who will love to communicate and hear your mind. It is true that we can meet people who look at themselves and do not care about others, but there is always someone who will be your friend. This book is full of tips that can show you what to do and what not to do. Honestly all of us good advice is worth gold.
Although Kristina Gallo's short book What does it mean to be a black sheep? is written from a female perspective, it is a book for everyone. Because whether you are a woman or a man, a child or an adult, there will be a time in your life when you will feel—different. When you will seek for your place of belonging and recognition, a safe harbor to be sheltered in.
Whether you are a child or an adult, a male or a female, you hurt equally under the boot of injustice or cuts of sharp tongues or burns of mean looks. You feel abandoned and alone in taking a stand against the world. It is hard to find strength to be who you are, with all your differences and oddness, with your uniqueness which causes you nothing but problems.
In situations like these it is crucial to acknowledge, embrace and accept yourself for who you are. To see beyond the norms of the society, set by imperfect individuals who can be colorblind or deaf to the music of your soul. Even if you lose some of your friends, as in the cases described in Kristina's short book, you will find people worthy of your trust, people who will accept you in their flock despite the black, pink, white or any other color of your personality. I hope and wish Kristina's book helps you with that.
⛴BOOK REVIEW / “What does it mean to be a black sheep?”/ Kristina Gallo🧳 ___ Genre: Short Story Pages: 42 Language: English Publisher: Self-published Release date: 2017 ____ 🛳Reading this book was like taking part in ‘The Weirdest Ship’ contest. Your ship looks like a torn black boot with green spots scattered on it. Everyone laughs, giving you no chance to win. Meantime, you put up the green sails, put “Jack Sparrow’s” hat on, and sett off on your fantastic trip. ____ 🧳The Plot: The book consists of a mix of examples from real-life and tips for introverts, shy people, and all those who used to be called a weirdo. The story brilliantly tells a reader how to be yourself in various circumstances and believe in yourself when even nobody does. ____ 🛳The Writing Style: As usual, Kristina Gallo’s writing style is sarcastic, dynamic, rapid-paced, and full of perfect metaphors. It’s easy and pleasurable reading, and you will definitely read this book in one sitting. The writer perfectly integrated her own experience into a stream of other examples at the background of wit recommendations. ____ 🧳The Characters: All the characters are present in the examples, though the number of characters and sub-characters isn’t numerous; the writer focuses more on the problem of ‘black sheep’ in a society and his/her feelings. ____ 🛳My fave quote: “Smile, because it gives a special shine to your face!’ ___ 🧳Would I read other books by this author: Definitely yes! ____ 🛳My humble rating is: 5/5 #writer #writerslife #KristinaGallo #shortstory #bookishlovegroup #unitedbookstagram #bookstagram #betterreadschallenge
What does it mean to be a black sheep? A brief but excellent insight into the problem of people who are different from the majority, who are therefore labeled, isolated, teased. Thank you for writing about this important topic regarding bullying and self-esteem. Everything is so very true. Bullying is a big problem nowadays.
Bullies are always there somewhere around us, making life miserable for such individuals, which is especially common at school age. Society doesn't understand and doesn't accept introverts, individuals. Kristina's important message is that it is perfectly fine to be different, have your own opinion, have your own attitude, and be your own.
She gave special attention to the topic of lack of self-confidence. When our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our life more negatively and critically. Low self-esteem often begins in childhood. One of the first effects of bullying on a child’s self-esteem is self-doubt or loss of confidence. The child may also become depressed or anxious.
It's great that you have enriched the content with tips on how to deal with certain situations. I would recommend everyone to read the book. It is short, useful, interestingly written.
The book is absolutely awesome! From the first pages you find yourself in it, like in a mirror. Of course, if you are a black sheep. Kristina Gallo describes very well the main features of an outsider or a black sheep, so well that makes you proud to be one. Based on true facts and detalies of real outsider persons, like always, brings the topic more down to reality. Being a black sheep is not a myth. It’s a reality denied for many years, in many cultures, being considered something bad. Well, it’s not. Being a black sheep is a privilege you give yourself, of being you, expressing your personality the way it is, without expecting approval, despite of everything and everyone. Another important fact, brought to reader s attention, is bullying, a concerning problem of nowdays. The courrage, guts and self-confidence are the key to this, according to the book. It s a must read and it’s helpful to those who wish to develop personality.
Ever felt like you don’t fit in? Don’t worry, help is at hand. This great self-help book by Kristina Gallo is all about being not fitting in and feeling like the “black sheep.” Kristina teaches us that you don’t have to change yourself to fit certain situations and people. When we do this, we start to lose a sense of our true self. Fitting in can feel like the easier option, but does it challenge us to do new things and grow as people? I recommend reading this book if you’ve ever felt like the black sheep in your family or place of work. There’s a great chapter on how to build self-confidence where the author talks about her past struggles with self-esteem and how she stopped comparing herself to famous women such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. Of course, being the black sheep is not a pleasant feeling, especially because the term has rather negative connotations. However, Kristina Gallo teaches us that belonging to a “herd” doesn’t make you happy: Have the courage to find your way.
This rang a lot of truths with what I use to see at School and growing up. The bullying thing happening to many of those people/friends of mine I use to defend for them.
I really enjoyed reading through this one as we all know black sheeps somewhere and at some point in our lives, and gives others much better upstanding of them.
A wonderfully written and very well told by Kristina, a read with truth and deep thought as you grow up. I know people who have been there for sure
Being a bit of a black sheep myself, I was drawn to this book immediately upon seeing its title. Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop until I was finished. Interesting, refreshingly realistic, witty, funny and compassionate, all at the same time, it definitely deserves a chance. Recommended.
I think we all go through periods in life when we feel... inadequate. Just as black sheeps do. Whether we are the bullied kid at school, the late addition to an already established group of friends, that awkward colleague everybody is trying to avoid in the workplace or just the plain stranger who just wanna make a point. This book by Kristina Gallo is a guide meant to help you through these periods. Whether it's an advice on how to boost your self-esteem, how to build your self-confidence or how to act in specific situations you're looking for, or simply a supporting word for soothing your fears, you will find "What does it mean to be black sheep?" very valuable.
This book appealed to me straight away, due to its aspirations to help people.
Blacksheep, outcast, dunce, unwanted, loner and weirdo. Name tags that hurt and prevent us from growing into strong, beautiful people. I called myself dunce for a long time, nearly 40 years, actually. It is liberating to come out from underneath the labels that either we put on ourselves, or others heap on us.
Kristina's book addresses people who find themselves on the outside, not part of the in-crowd. She shows examples and gives extremely helpful, and thoughtful advice. Her desire to help other people shines through on every page.
This is a short novella/advice book, and is, therefore, a quick and easy read. However, English is not Kristina's first language so please be lenient with the grammar.
Looking for inspiration to move forward in your life? Then give this book a quick read, you won't regret it.
Author Kristina Gallo’s frank approach in defining what it means to be a black sheep delves into every conceivable psychological aspect. Certainly, those who rally around conformity perceive it as a shallow, narcissistic opportunity to laud it over those who exhibit shy, introverted behavior, rendering them a black sheep.
The author pivots from her own experiences which lends even more credence to this self-help read. Standing up to bullies takes guts and builds self-esteem to navigate life as you see fit without fitting in.
‘What Does It Mean to Be a Black Sheep’ is good company for those who march to the beat of a different drum.
