Can one even properly review a book that gives just a glimpse into the intricacies of human ideologies and experiences? No. You cannot put a star or rating on it. It's life.

But you see as a reader worlds upon worlds and just how complex stories are. How complex life is. What works for one will not work for another. Some embrace it. Some get frustrated with it. The diversity of different thoughts becoming muddled into one is essentially what Mumbai/Bombay is all about. Everything, everyone with their own problems. Their own views. Their own ups and downs. All draped under the saying, "Sab chalta hai", because it does. It's rare to find such diversity that's not only physically present but thriving. Yes there are problems. Yes there are conflicts. But no one has given up yet. There is always something new to see. Something new to do. A new corner to turn. A new way of growing. Your life can go from 0-100 or even 100-0 willingly and unwillingly. It's fast. It's chaotic. It's wondrous and frustrating. Dare I call it the physical symbol of life itself?

In the end, this isn't a book I can rate, for who am I to dare put a mark on someone's life story? Who am I to rate out of 5, how good someoone's perception of life is? I am no one but an observer and to pass such a comment would make me a monster. So I chose to read and read and read because it is a book you much read over and over and over again. You will never fully get it but each time you gain something more from it. Which in a way, is exactly what Mumbai/Bombay is all about.

For those of you who don't know, Humans of Bombay is a Facebook page started by Karishma Mehta This book has captured some beautiful, some simple, some innocent and some heartbreaking stories. The simple language conveys the life of ordinary people with an extraordinary attitude to deal with life. It's amazing as to how the little things in life change people so much and while reading some stories, I smiled, felt bad and sometimes had nothing to say. This book has beautifully captured the life of Mumbaikars. The stories have helped me personally in being patient and hoping that no matter how life treats you sometimes, things get better with time.
