The recipes in this book are fantastic, but the really interesting thing is Rhonda Malkmus's perspective that our bodies were designed only to eat raw fruits and vegetables. The Hallelujah Diet that her husband designed allows for up to 25% of one's food to be in the cooked category, but they really advocate avoiding all meat ("dead flesh"), dairy, and grains if possible... and of course the obvious nasty things like caffeine and sugar. It's really interesting. I am working right now toward developing an eating system that I can maintain not just for a diet but really for a lifetime, so this is a pretty drastic perspective... but I like it. It makes me despair just a little bit because I really do agree with what they say as far as how much we get nutritionally from fruits and vegetables and how damaging these other foods can be... but I just don't know yet how sustainable it will be for me to live out a totally raw foods diet, at least at this point in time. Also, I do disagree with just a few points... for example, Jesus wouldn't have said He is the bread of life if bread is something we shouldn't really eat. Obviously, there is a lot of unhealthy bread out there, but stuff like sprouted grain bread is fantastic for you. Overall, I really like the book, but I would recommend using it as one of several sources, not the primary source, on what not to eat. All of the recipes are most definitely VERY healthy, though!
I've been wanting to eat healthier and this book in my opinion was fantastic. According to the author it's based on the Bible. This cookbook is a companion to the Hallelujah Diet.
How the Bible intended us to eat is debatable, but majority of these recipes are raw using genuine food. Nothing processed, little to no sweetener (honey or dates usually) no dairy or meat.
