The Other End of the Leash

Rate this book
Raven lived the life of a submissive 24/7. She was under the care of her Master, Seth Thomas, who treated her well, using her as she enjoyed and letting her live freely on his estate with his other submissives, who came and went as they wished.
Seth kept his kinky side secret from his family so when he was called overseas for family business that would take a month, he turned to fellos Doms in the lifestyle to help him care for his pet.
Kade Reynolds was a meticulous dominant. He’d plan and execute his scenes carefully. His submissives were always cared for, but he never let his emotions get involved. With each scene, he wanted to push himself further. When he was approached to care for Raven while her Master was gone, he jumped at the chance for something new. A live in submissive who would obey any command given by the person holding her leash. Kade enjoys it far more than he thought he would. When Seth returns for his pet, will Kade be able to hand over the leash?

How can I Possibly give this book a worthy review! Every moment from beginning to end captured me.

I do not read many books where the main point of view is from a male's perspective and this was done wonderfully. The other POV's were also appreciated, especially the way Raven's mind was shown. There is some serious character development of the course of this one book. The scenes were hot, steamy, and left you wanting more. And it didn't take long for them to deliver more. The sexual connections, the Emotional connection, and the overall WaNT in this book put me down the rabbit hole and brought me back again. This a book that truly knows how to satisfy!

5/5 - This is a real story. Real, meaning full of true writing. No punches are pulled and dark scenes are involved. As well as, true love and true respect.

This is definitely not a book for everyone. It’s HEAVY BDSM. It’s pet play on a hardcore level. It’s also a story about why some people turn to BDSM. If you are going to read this book do it with an open mind and RESPECT.

Why do I give 5/5 rating, because this story is honest. The writing was pretty decent. There are two authors and it’s easy to tell who the stronger writer is so there that but it well written.

Raven’s story isn’t a pretty one. I felt for her and had a hard time understanding why she likes the things she does. But this book does an excellent job relating to the reader her mindset along with the other characters as well.

Kade is a self proclaimed sadistic Dominant, asshole. Truthfully a lot of alpha types, especially sadistic Doms, come off as assholes. They love control and feed off it and have a hard time turning it off in day to day life. But just because they are assholes doesn’t mean they don’t have compassion or care for their subs. Without a sub, submitting their power to them or a masochist to take the pain they love to give they wouldn’t be an active sadistic Dom. Kade is all of that and he truly cares for Raven.

Watching their HEA blossom was touching and I can’t stop thinking about their story. This book has meat to it and challenges the reader to evaluate what is love and what is respect.

* NOT GOING TO LIE, the dog scene flashback messed me up. Made me feel nauseous. I didn’t like it and I don’t like knowing that, that kind of sick perversion exists.

There are warnings at the beginning of the book as well. Not graphic in detail warnings but it’s there and the reader is told to proceed with an open mind.

WARNING:

Beastiality scene: breeding fight — this is terrible

Incest: father/daughter — terrible as well

Rape scene: 2M/1F — bad

F/F; MFF, orgy sex (4M/1F) oral, manual, anal, and penetrative sex

Spanking, flogging, caning, forced orgasms (hitachi), violet wand, fire play, stocks, pet play, bondage

Kade, a sadistic Master who enjoys the erotic stimulation of what pain does to a woman, who also doesn’t want a committed relationship, finds himself becoming a “pet sitter” to Raven while her owner and Master, Seth, takes care of family issues overseas for a month. Kane and Raven take you on a journey of pleasurable pain, intimacy, trust, devotion, and the intricacies of a D/s relationship. NJ Cole and Oliver Durant have written a great flowing story with excellent character development and once I started this book, I couldn’t wait to finish it – but be warned, for those who have triggers, Raven’s backstory will be extremely difficult.

This book spoke to the depths of my soul and incited all sorts of emotions to run through me while reading it. I don’t want to give any of the story line away, but OMG – I wanted to plant my own fist into Van’s and Trystan’s faces – those two pricks are the epitome of ignorance and misconception regarding BDSM – and I’m a naturally submissive person, so kudos to both authors for bringing that out in me. This is my first read of these authors, but it certainly won’t be my last - I will definitely be looking for more.

This is not my first book by NJ Cole. Five years ago, I read her back then new release, Island Captive, and that book wasn`t for the faint of heart. It had everything that many would find problems with, and it was also my introduction to the more depraved nature of humans in situations that they may be unable to control.

I`ve followed this author since then, more than a little curious on what she was working on, and always interested in what she would come up with since she had managed to shock (my what I considered ‘virgin’ eyes and mind) to be a little more depraved. Yes, i`ll admit it, today I love dark romances and dark themes in my books because they make you think on what could be considered reality and what is truly fiction.

The Other End Of The Leash is one of those books that you`ll either get, or you won`t. why do I say it like that? Quite simply because of the fact that the themes in this book won`t be for everyone, the dynamics either something you`ll enjoy or truly think odd and pass judgement. And when I say that, i`m not even being rude. This is a book about defining what you want to be and what you have become to protect yourself.

Everyone discover BDSM in one way or another, taking what they like from it and leaving the others. Very few will be able to truly immerse themselves into the lifestyle and thrive from it because it is simply a question of being able to fully let go, and many can`t always do that (again, don`t take out the pitch forks ;) ). Why was this book powerful?

This author has aptly described what happens to a woman who discovers her potential. Raven went from being a pet with few full sentences and words to being able to form words, to realizing that she wants to try to be more than just a pet with a tail who lives to serve her master and his demands, even they go against everything that she believes in. it`s also about a Dom discovering that his past experiences have nothing with what is going on with Raven.

It`s also about discovering that in this lifestyle it`s more than just kink. There is emotion, support, after care, love and pushing limits so that it doesn`t damage a person, rather than seeing just how much they can take. I absolutely loved this book for that. For making you see that there is more than just kink and sex. That there is a connection that is undeniable.

I can`t wait to see just what else NJ Cole has in store next because this is easily her best so far.

NJ Cole has teamed up with Oliver Durant for this book and wow what a story it is. Yes yes yes what a great book this is, I have read quite a few books around this genre but never quite like this one, it tells us about Seth and his sub Raven. Seth has to go away for a while so he seeks out the help of a friend who in turn asks her friend Kade. Kade take's to Raven right away, will Kade want to give her back, will he give her back, or will it all end in tears. It really is a great story,

Such an unexpected read. I wouldn’t say this is a 4 star in the normal way...just in the jaw dropping risk the author took with the h. I’m not sure I can say I even loved/liked the book. I’m reading the second because I’m curious and may not even bother with the third.

Triggers: Holy fuck, some of these are so dark. Sex with OW/OM. Both H/h were a little unhappy about it when they watch the other having sex with OP, but I wouldn’t call it jealousy, more like possessiveness. There are some very dark rape scenes (not H) one was so shocking I’ve not read it in mainstream BDSM romance. DO NOT READ FURTHER UNLESS YOU NEED TO KNOW ALL TRIGGERS BEFORE READING A BOOK. I’m listing it only because I never saw it listed in another review and if I’d known I may have skipped this. When the OM Master found the h she was being sold as a whore to men who had come to watch dogs fight for the right to fuck her. The men would fuck her after the dog fight and the winning dog had fucked her and then her father would anally rape her when it was all over. It was one scene but it will take a while for me to forget it. She did not want it but had become conditioned to accept it. She was also housed in a basement and lived with a dog, like a dog. The other scene was 2 OM the OM Master had made a play date with for the h while he was gone. The H went to have his scene with an OW, after he was finished he realized the h was being raped and the scene with the 2 OM was not consensual so he stopped it. The OM Master had no idea the 2 OM would do this to her...but I also think the OM Master was a dumbfuck and should have spent the last 2 years trying to help her rather than exploit her since HE WAS the one who found her being abused in an underground sex club in Germany and bought her for 100k to get her out.

Ok I’m not going to give this a star rating because honestly I don’t think I can. I rate books based on genre, so all of my fantasy are rated on the same scale and that’s a different scale I use for scifi it ya or romance. This is my first legitimate effort with a BDSM centered book so I don’t have a scale yet to measure this metric. Still I have some thoughts.

Firstly I appreciate the explanation we get into how some got brought into this world. I think with alternate lifestyles that you might not know much about that helps, to see the progression, knowing how it came about makes it easier to understand how we got to the point we start in the story.

I also appreciated the sight into everyone’s head because again it fostered sense of understanding that I didn’t have before. And that there is an actual plot, it’s not just an endless stream of sex scenes without a point. There is also some seriously twisted shit that is suffered by one of the characters. It isn’t at all easy to read and so this story is not for the faint of heart.

Actually even without the abuse flashbacks it’s not for the faint of heart. This is an extreme story about an extreme lifestyle and so if you are coming into this with a closed mind or a lot of hang ups you will not enjoy a second of the reading experience.

Kade doesn’t do commitment, so how will he cope when he has to take care of a submissive 24/7 for the first time.

I’m going to be upfront and say that I might be underrating this title slightly because, while I’ve read a few BDSM themed books, this one is a lot more graphic than what I’m used to. There are a few stomach churning scenes too, so if you’re a sensitive soul, you might want to steer clear of ‘The Other End of the Leash’.

That said, it’s well written, great characters and highly descriptive. There may be a little more sex than plot for my liking but that’s subjective. Both Raven and Kade are interesting characters for different reasons. Kade is sadistic and he knows it, but as the story develops we get to see a softer side to him. Equally, when we first meet Raven she’s a rather perplexing character and we get to see her blossom. When we finally learn her story, it’s easy to understand just why she drifted so far from her human side. In that way it could be considered heart-warming. I’ll let you judge that for yourself.

Trigger warning: Sexual abuse.
Cautionary Element: Bestiality.

Hooked from the start

What a ride! I was hooked from the beginning to the end. I started reading this today and quite literally did not want to set it down. I felt emersed in the story, it's not often that I find a book that the author makes me feel completely engaged in the story line. At the beginning you learn some background on Kade, how he began and has grown into his lifestyle. His mentor/friend Kennedy brings an offer to him, regarding "pet sitting". Here starts our true journey and introduction of Raven. Raven is a full time pet for her Master, and while he will be away tending to family business, Kade will be taking care of her. While I don't want to give you any full details (hey I'm not spoiling this for anyone), I will say that the scenes were so detailed and well written that you got literal images while reading. I loved the dual point of view, seeing it from the Dom's eyes, getting to glimpse that head space was fascinating. I can't say enough about how I truly enjoyed this book! Read it for yourself, I dare you haha! Then make sure you have some quality time to spend with your S. O. Since you'll be left wanting :)

The Other End Of The Leash was such a powerful story. It will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. You will learn why and how Seth came to own Raven as his 24/7 pet. Why she is driven to be treated that way. Seth having to go out of the country plans on leaving her with two different Doms Kennedy and Kade. Kennedy ends up needing to leave town also so Kade keeps her the entire time. Kade doesn't do relationships but as time goes on he is drawn to her. He's finding it hard to accept that he will have to give back her leash to Seth. So he wants to ask for more time with her. A lot of things happen before Seth returns and after that turns their lives upside down. You DON'T want to miss out on this dark gritty heartbreaking yet beautifully powerful story. ♥️🔥

💞no spoilers

I found This to be a very touching and emotional read - Kade was well developed his character felt real and it was easy to connect with him emotionally - Raven I don't want to give spoilers , try and keep in mind that things are not always as they seem. - their story at times was very dark , very graphic - I even fought back tears 😢during a couple scenes - but the final outcome of their journey - 💖 worth every moment

He Was Her Cage

Just WOW! What an amazing read by This great duo of superb authors. I was blown away from the very first page to the last, I had to read it in one sitting it was such a compelling read. So well written, amazing characters written with such depth. I laughed, I cried and was so sad at stages with this dark, dark, BDSM romance. But hey it was so worth all my emotions. A highly recommended read in this genre. Kade didn’t do relationships in his BDSM world, he just plans meticulous scenes and loves his life. Until he is asked by his friend Kennedy, a Domme at the club he frequents, to look after Ethan's submissive Raven. Oh what a dark deep past Raven endured! Why does Raven never speak? Why is she only happy with her tail? Can Kade let his beautiful doe eyes go, when Ethan returns? Can Raven trust Kade to protect her? Will Raven ever get a chance of a tiny glimpse at her HEA?
This is my honest and voluntary review of an ARC I received.

I obtained a copy of the book through Instafreebie. As such I'm left wondering whether the copy I received was like an uncorrected proof.

The story was really good. I found it completely interesting that Raven chose to live her life as a submissive pet, like a dog, with a dog crate that she slept in and a tail that she wore almost all the time. That in a story was a first for me. Maybe there are others like that though, I don't know, but it was fascinating.

I loved the dynamic between Raven and Kade. Even though he'd been a Dominate for years he'd never come across someone like Raven before, someone so emmersed in the Submissive Pet lifestyle that she didn't speak. But I absolutely loved how he taught her to communicate with him. He worried that, because she didn't speak--he wasn't even positive if she could--that he may be doing something that she didn't approve of, didn't like. And he didn't want to force her to do anything she wasn't completely on board for.

So back to why I'm wondering if what I read was an uncorrected proof. The book had a lot of errors in it. Mostly missing words or punctuation errors, but there were also continuity errors and even a time or two when the wrong name was used.

-------POSSIBLE SPOILER---READ OR SKIP, YOUR CHOICE-------
One such error involved Raven and the fact it was stated that she never spoke. At one point she spoke to Kade. When she did, she explained that she only speaks when not wearing the tail, and she was rarely without it. So when Seth (her Master) returned to pick her up she hadn't been wearing the tail. And when they got in the car to leave she spoke to him and he had no reaction whatsoever to her speaking, other than to reply calmly. Yet towards the end of the book she spoke to him again and he was shocked to hear her speak, claiming she'd never spoken before.
-------------------------------------------------------

The last line or two of the book lets you know that there is more to Raven and Kade's story coming. I don't know when that will be nor did I know that in advance. I was under the impression that this was a complete standalone story. Apparently not! And while I'm excited to read more, I might have waited until the next book was available before reading this one had I known. But I will say, it does NOT end on a cliffhanger. The story could easily end where it did, minus the last little bit that hints of more.

If you like BDSM stories, you might enjoy this book as well.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through arc.

Kade is a sadist he loves the women who take the pain but he is not looking for a relationship. The first time he went to s BDSM club and saw what he liked. He becomes friends with a domme named Kennedy and her submissive Chloe. Seth the master of Raven gave her to Kade to take care of for a couple of weeks and to Kennedy for two weeks. Raven was a
24/7 submissive and pet. Kade was taking care of Raven much better than Seth. Kade took Raven to the club he went to do something and when he came back two men had her in a scene but when he saw what they had done to her he freaks out the men told him that Seth okayed them playing with her. She was beaten and raped the men at the club were held there until he could get her out. When she gets home he inspected her and he had to call the doctor. He had been trying to get to Seth by phone. When he finally got him he told Seth what happened and Seth told him she liked it rough until he sent him the pictures of Ravens injuries. Seth gave him the number of the doctor. The doctor knew Raven but when he saw her and she was throwing up and had a temperature of 103. The doctor gave Kade medication and told him what to do and if nothing changed to ball him back. Kade took care of her and it was the first time he heard her talk. Kade decided that Raven needed to get out of the house so he decides to take her to dinner. Raven started to talk to Kade. Kade treated Raven as an equal and she was still submissive but not a pet like she was with Seth. Kade knew that Seth would be there to take her home it Kade didn’t expect it to be today. Raven left with Seth because she thought Kade didn’t want her there. Kade let Seth take her without saying anything he felt sad as they drove away. WillRaven and Kade see each other again will he find out her secret. Let just say that this was a heavy BDSM book with somethings that made me very uncomfortable. I have read a lot of these books but this one was twisted.

Kade is a sadist and set in his ways. His lifestyle is BDSM and has become close with a women he befriended at the club. One day Kennedy asked Kade about doing a favor for another Dom who had a 24/7 live in submissive. After meeting Raven he was 100 % interested. I felt sad for Raven, she seemed so detached from herself. Hmmm… then we get to the halfway point maybe a little farther and when a scene unfolds in the club with Raven and Kade was not present for 15 minutes, when he finally checks on her and sees what the heck was going on he stepped up. He stepped up for her and took control. How he doesn’t beat the living crap out of those guys is beyond me. Now, this scene was very uncomfortable for me. It most likely may cause some triggers. However it did show the difference in BDSM lifestyle vs rape; or any unwanted sexual acts and physical abuse that could occur anywhere in any situation.

What Kade does after is what any man (I hope) would do. His “love” which I don’t think he realized at that moment, his love and desire to care for her more then the D/s lifestyle seemed obvious to me. When you learn about what has happened to her in her life, what those scumbags did, I was more than angry. But I also started to understand Raven more. Which I was glad because, for the love of god I wanted her to be more than she seemed in the beginning. She is more than a sex object and I am so thankful that Kade saw that and wanted more for her. A few things I did not like, and a few things I loved. In the end I really enjoyed this read, with the uncomfortable moments to the hot as hell scenes….I can’t wait to read more.

Awesome Read!

My 1st book by NJ Cole. I loved the backstory given on each character. It lets us the reader, fall in love with each ones unique situation within the story. Raven is my favorite though. She as a masochist was happy as a pet, loved to be shared and wasn't comfortable using her voice. Once she was given to Kade, things changed. Kade A Sadist who couldn't be satisfied, no woman able to take his dose of sadism. Not one girl had ever had him thinking of falling in love, none able to soften him up. Not until Raven. I love the Huge strides made by Raven, where with Seth she lived as a pet & never chose to use her voice. With Kade she wanted the connection, she chose to take her tail out and conversate with kade. She wanted to make love with Kade. I loved watching her and Kade evolve together. I can't wait for book two.
NJ Cole is now one of my favorite Authors. If you haven't read this book, get it, read it I promise you won't be disappointed.

This is a difficult book to review. Although it is a well written book with some sexy scenes, there are also some very uncomfortable and dark scenes that are too much for me personally.
I was disappointed that there wasn't more depth in the characters, even when we get some of Raven's background it felt shallow and her feelings are almost entirely skated over.
Nonetheless there are also some appealing aspects ; Kade is very appealing, as a Dom and a leading man. Kennedy could have been a much more interesting character, and I was disappointed that she was so peripheral to the story.
Throughout this book there is a theme of communication but whilst it is central and important to the relationship and the story, I was left feeling it was underdeveloped.
Overall I would say if you don't mind BDSM with some dark and disturbing scenes, then you could do a lot worse. Sadly it isn't really my type of book.

The book cover does the story justice. The reason for this is that the cover reveals excateley what happens in the story.

This book was written by the powerful couple , N.J Cole (sassy) and her husband, Sir Oliver Durant.

This is about the BDSM Lifestyle. Raven was a submissive 24/7.
This is her journey with trials and tribulations.

The characters was so well described as if a person was watching a movie, even the scenes as well. From the first page i was pulled into the story. Easy to read, very realistic , action-packed, steamy wow take my word for it. Real page turner with great word-building, Romantic, tears, sassy and witty remarks. Then there relatable villains.

I will read this book again.

Great read but...

This book was a great read. The characters and story line were well developed. The only problem with the book was the editing. I normally don't bother memtioning editing errors as they font bother me but tbere were quite a few errors throughout the book. Words here and there were wrong, meaning it wasn't spelled wrong it was just the wrong word (using or in a sentence when it was suppose to be for). In one sentence the heroine Raven was referred to as Riley. Another sentence had Seth talking to Kade about the day he picked Raven up and Seth said, "I went to take her there the day I came to pick you up.". There's a few other discrepancies here and there but if you can ignore them then it's an awesome read.

NJ Cole and Oliver Durant are new Authors to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought this book- but I had heard such great things so I wanted to give it a try. Well, I can say happily that “The Other End Of The Leash” is a wonderfully written book with plenty of information, for those curious about the BDSM lifestyle, along with exceptional scenes to burn your kindle up. But I can’t stop there because there was not only suspense and intrigue, but my emotions were being tapped all throughout this book. There were parts that moved me deeply, which caught me off guard. And the great news is that it’s the first book in a series! I absolutely loved this book and do recommend it! ~ Angie❤️

I was given an ARC and here's my honest review.
This isn't the first book of NJ Cole that I read and, as the previous one, I liked it!
I love her writing, how she builds her characters, how they interact. I like that the books are long and the stories are very rich.
This book is about BDSM and often it describes painful scenes, so I think this book isn't for everybody. But even if one is not involved in this world, I think this book is perfect to understand a little how it works, the sensations involved, the feelings of both the giving and receiving parts. Moreover there is a wonderful love story.

This is the first book I've read by N J Cole &/or Oliver Durant and must say, I'm quite overwhelmed by what I've just read. They've taken a cast of characters and brought them to life with such emotion and personality it made me feel as if I knew them and had a memory playing in my mind as I was reading. For those with trigger points, be advised there are some scenes that are intense, so be aware. With that in mind, the authors have taken great pains to make sure "Safe, Sane and Consensual" was brought up often. I wouldn't have missed this book for anything and hope it's the first of many with these characters and the storyline. Congratulations to both of you on a job well done!!

Better than 50 Shades

I don't know much about BDSM, but I know I'm interested in it and I can enjoy reading about it. I thought this was a good read in the eyes of a Dom, and a sub/pet. I'm glad they eventually got into detail about the sub because it was killing me not knowing what prompted her to be in the lifestyle. And even when I found out, I can understand it, and why she chose to continue.
Overall I thought it was well written by people who understand the lifestyle without the mind games some of the other BDSM books I have read.
There are some rough parts in the book, so there are possible triggers so beware.

What a love story!😍

I love this story even though it had me at the edge of my seat. Learning the dynamic of Raven, Seth, Kennedy and Kade was very interesting. Having someone treated as a true pet and seeing that person change as Kade and Raven spend more time with each other was beautiful. Although it did made me angry when Kade didn't follow his instincts. But it did help Raven and Kade develop their trust and relationship. Would love to know what if in an epilogue about their future together.
Thank you Oliver and NJ.

3.5 STARS ⭐️ I liked the storyline, there were just some scenes and certain content that was just too dark for my particular tastes (which I think is saying a lot). I liked the characters, but I wanted it to go more in depth than it did and for the two main characters to communicate more than they did. But it was engaging, some sexy parts and even I couldn’t resist a hero like Kade is with a wounded heroine like Raven.

It’s a good book, but there are definitely some major triggers at certain points.

I really enjoyed this book. The kink scenes were intense and nothing was left out. I am fairly new to reading BDSM and this book had some very good explanations on floggers. The author explains the different types of floggers and what the number of falls, strips of leather attached to the handle can do and what it sounds like. Now when I read other books and if they mention anything about the type of flogger I might understand a little more what the submissive will be feeling.

The love story was good and ended on a cliff hanger. I can't wait to read the next book.

Good bdsm books are few and far between. Some writers really have no idea about the lifestyle or really downplay how the acts are played out. This book though really painted a wonderful view into the lifestyle. The way it was written from the characters viewpoints really set up what was taking place in vivid detail.
Yes there are some dark parts In this book but it's not something that should turn you away from a very well written book. 5 stars from me and I cant wait for more from this author

This was my first read of NJ Cole and Oliver Durant and I was not disappointed! I loved the first person point of view, it allowed me to feel emotionally connected to the characters. It was a roller coaster of emotions with twists and turns when I least expected it. I actually cried at one point and it takes a lot for that to happen. I can't wait to see what the future brings us from NJ and Oliver!
