Hayley, Quark, and the Riders are finding it hard to trust anything after a series of betrayals has left them battered and on the run, heading for a safe haven to regroup and reload.
If they want to have any hope of preventing an intergalactic war, they’ll need to break onto one of the most highly secured planets in the galaxy and pull off one of the most unexpected heists ever committed.
When friends reveal themselves as enemies and enemies become accidental friends, there’s only one thing left to do:
Throw caution to the stars, take the leap, and make the single shot.
--------- Single Shot is the third book in the Justice of the Covenant series.
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

Great series and worthy continuation of the Chaos series.
Made even better with the reference to Abbie crossing to the multiverse(s) Come on now Mr Forbes - you have opened the door and I am waiting for those books with bated breath.
8/10: Excellent read, well written, fell right into the fictional world created.
He said it was an outcome he was willing to accept to save the galaxy. Hayley knew when he said that, he was mainly referring to her.
This is the end, my friends. And it was an acceptable ending to a thrilling spin-off series. I just have one major gripe which cost the book a star rating.
Having got over that, I enjoyed the rest of the book mainly. Hayley stuck to her morals, which was why I fell for her in the first place. I’m not too sure about how things ended with the Collective, but the final few pages gave me happy-happy vibes.
Overall (and as the rest of the series was so great) this deserves an honorary spot on my Top Reads bookshelf.
Having read all of Forbes’ sci-fi offerings, I’m now considering his earlier work and the fantasy options. I’ve spent the past few weeks with this author, and saying goodbye is kind of hard.
Well done, Mr Forbes. You have an amazing talent. Thank you.
I'm over 60 now, and read a lot of books in my lifetime, so maybe I get a bit jaded sometimes. But M R Forbes has got my blood racing with his writing. It's been a long time since I've had so much of an adrenaline rush from simply reading a book... I've just finished every one of Forbes SF books, at the rate of - at least - a book a day. I literally couldn't put them down. I'm not going to say much more... just grab any of the first books in a series, settle down in your favourite chair, and prepare to head off out into the galaxy (or maybe a future Earth), on a rollercoaster thrill-fest. Heroes, heroines, aliens, always well written with edge of your seat stuff going down big time... What more could you want!!
And if MR Forbes ever wants a Gant to do a final proof-read, I can guarantee his 99.8% accuracy would become 100%!
Seriously great entertainment! Looking forward to reading more... especially Sheriff Duke and Abbie. Cheers.
I am a retired USN sailor who also spent four years as a Marine. I am 74 years old and have been reading SiFi since I first learned to read. Since seeing and reading M.R.Forbes books he has become my all time favorite author and after reading most all of his works, I can honestly say that Justice Of The Covenant is the best .series I have EVER read and my favorite of all the series by all authors I have read. Triple Threat, Double Down, and Single Shot. M.R. Forbes you keep writing and I'll keep buying your books. To me you are the best of the best.
It is the end of the road for Hayley, Quark and Tibor and the new Riders. For some the end of the road is shorter than for others. They are going to take on the Nephilim and Thetan as well as the Rogue Nanites. they have help from a very young Oracle as well as an old friend from the Rejects - who it is absolutely awesome to see back again. They are up against some old Reject enemies as well as the other Big Bads and as always they are up against insurmountable odds. Bey hey, they're The Riders + one Reject! I know who I'm going to bet on!
What an adventure! I've binge-read the Chaos series followed by this one! Whew! A lot of sci-fi but honestly one of the most thorough and eclectic gathering of places, people, aliens, and fantastical creatures I've had the pleasure to read. Strap in for a wild ride if you dare to read!
Good read, if less engaging than the Hells reject series
Enjoyable, if a little to similar to the Hells Rejects series by the same author. Not sure I liked the ending, and the lack of growth/ interaction with the Riders left something lackiing re: the Rejects. Interesting finish, and not really sure about the way he left me feeling about the Oracle.
Everything got squared away in what may or may not be the final book in this series. There's room for additional adventures if Forbes is willing. I enjoy reading his books which have enough action to keep me interested and enough theory to generate plenty of arguments.
My congratulations for a wonderful story line. Your heroines made me laugh and cry. It's a long time since I read a full series the didn't have the main characters hopping in and out of each other's beds.. Thank you so much for a great read. Now maybe after Two Weeks I can get some house work done and an early night.
I hate it when one of Michael Forbes series comes to an end! If you like slam BAM action, daring-do heroes and "can't put it down" stories you can't go wrong with Forbes. Get this series. You'll like it.
I binge read back to back everyone of these well written books this is a very interesting storyline with great characters and amazing places gant will always be my favorite
This is a superb ending to a great trilogy. Definitely did not expect certain things to play out as they did but it Is well written for sure and leads to all kinds of adventures in the future I hope.
I've been reading sci-fi for almost 70 years now and I would rate this series an A+! It's fun, interesting reading and is hard to put down! Buy it. Read it and enjoy it.
These three books started with Bell's Rejects till now. Ending back on Earth. A very good read. I love outer space books. Job well done. Can't wait for his next books.
Space battles, lots of action. Decently developed characters. This had more books than the first series, and they get beat up more often. It's good. Great summer reading at the beach or wherever. I recommend both series.
This was the perfect ending to the Cage saga, for both of them. I just don't believe it's the real end. The galaxy is still in trouble, and it only seems right for mother and daughter (And now granddaughter?) to reunite to in order to, once again, save the day.
Lasers, plasma beams, evil hive minds? Got ‘em all. We bump into old friends, we save the galaxy (again), but when all is said and done….. it’s all about whānau.
As an avid reader, I truly appreciate a prolific, but one who is both interesting and innovative! I've enjoyed several of his series, and look forward to reading even more... Kudos!
