In the winter of 1963 the writer Marc Bernard is sent by his editor to the new Paris suburb of Sarcelles. His mission was to live in this sort of brave new world, the new suburban paradise of post war France. The author quickly observes that life isn’t so rosy in Sarcelles. The reader sees why this suburb, and by extension the Parisian banlieue have become the problem they are today.
