Suspense-filled. Romantic. Nothing will stop a McAllister cowboy from protecting the woman he loves.
Hannah Hudson has a distorted view of home and family due to her odd, impoverished upbringing. She longs for her own Happily Ever After, but she’s willing to settle for escaping the Phoenix heat and her dreary job. Then, along comes a miracle. Luck crash-lands in her lap. With a new, improved To Do List, and a heart filled with hope, she heads for a ranch in the cool hills of Colorado. At last, she’s loving life.
Shortly after arriving, her luck runs out. A tragic accident occurs, and a troubling reality sets her reeling. She’s alone. There is no Dairy Queen, no Circle K, not even a hospital along the winding mountain road that links the remote ranch to the nearest town. The seclusion of her new world is frightening.
Reluctantly, she teams up with Trace McAllister, a wise, local cowboy, who helps her learn the ropes around the ranch and in the bedroom. Love is in the Rocky Mountain air. A brilliant cattle dog and an intuitive palomino horse add fun and excitement to their days. But their fast-blooming chemistry is fraught with conflict, secrets, and a relentless, unidentified evil.

And, yes. Cricket’s novels are fiction . . . Really! (OK, except the part about the dog; she really had a dog like Wendell, the mastiff in this series.)
Hannah Hudson is about to experience mystery, drama, danger, and love – and it doesn’t look like she is even close to being ready for it. Heading for the Colorado ranch, she is ill-prepared to try to run it effectively. It feels so isolated with all that space and nothing familiar. And a murder is a bad way of starting out! Thank goodness that Trace McAllister, a wise, local cowboy, shows up to help teach her what she needs to know around the ranch, along with help from an amazing dog and a horse! And in the middle of all the chaos, is it possible that love might have a chance to grow?
Lots of things going on, good and bad, but having a protective cowboy sure does make the bad stuff much easier to cope with. Grab your copy and experience everything that Hannah had to deal with! Will they find out who is doing all of these things? Can Trace keep her safe until they discover why this is happening?
Just awesome. A romantic suspense that was just awesome this book was so good. Hannah has not had an easy life raised in a poor family and what she wants more than anything is a happy life. So she takes off for Colorado. Then fate steps in and puts up a challenge she needs to meet. Trace helps her get her footing. This was a fast-paced story with all its drama, suspense, and romance. I can’t forget the animals they were outstanding. I loved the dialogue of the characters and all the twists. This book is one you will be glad to have I know I am pleased it is my collection. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is a thrilling suspense filled romance with Hannah and Trace. They work toward a romantic relationship as they also work together to find out who is after her and the lottery money she won. There are several twists in this story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until all is revealed.
Cricket Rohman manages to deliver a well thought out book with both romance and suspense. Trace and Hannah burn up the pages with their white hot chemistry. A phenomenal story line, details that leave the reader guessing what might happen next, and a sweet conclusion that will definitely satisfy the reader. I can't wait to see what happens next with the McAlister Brothers.

What a wonderful romantic, suspense story. I liked that it took awhile to put all the pieces of the puzzle together in this romantic story about a sexy cowboy named Trace and his new neighbor, Hannah. There were a lot of interesting twists and turns and several surprises too. Parts of it had my heart pounding as I quickly read to solve the mystery. I liked Hannah's quiet ways with her animals and I liked how Trace treated Hannah. Their relationship was so special. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.

This is a fast-paced, scary book about how far someone will go for money or to eliminate one's rival for love. Hannah finds herself completely alone with no car or phone, hungry and in a new place she knows nothing about. Enter Trace McAllister, a kind and helpful hero. Trouble begins here! I enjoyed the characters in the story, who are well-written, but especially the animals and the way Hannah interacts with them.

Such a great read! Romance with suspense added in makes for the perfect action, adventure romantic story. The characters are wonderful and well developed and the story line is captivating to say the least. Intrigue and a bit of suspense keep you turning the pages to find out what happens between Trace and Hannah. Definitely recommend!

This story is one of heartfelt endurance and battle against the unknown... Of course with the always popular HEA we are all in good hands at the end. Overall a very good Cowboy romance and one very worthy of fabulous four stars.

Hannah believes she is heading toward her dream life, in reality she is about to start her biggest nightmare. Enjoyed this story but felt too many of the mysteries were left hanging like the author ran out of time or space. I hope these things maybe answered in the next book.
Acquired Kindle edition when offered free on Amazon.
DNF at 18%. I just can't deal with brainless characters.
Semi-spoilers ahead but nothing that isn't in other reviews, and nothing that pertains to the end because i didn't get there.
The author starts out with all her acknowledgements and appreciation, but if she really had any competent advisors on this book, she must not have taken their suggestions. Neither the story nor the execution made any sense.
Maybe the title should have been Colorado Letdown.
Hannah and Rick are on their way to Colorado, where they have a new life awaiting them on their ranch. Rick has a dream of being a cowboy. I don't know what Hannah's going to do. Normally, I'd expect to have some idea by 18%, but nothing's been mentioned. Nor do I know the background of how Hannah came into possession of this ranch. Or why she even wanted it.
They arrive at the ranch, and the house there is a mess. Dirty like it hasn't been occupied for years. Rather than attempt to get settled in, they break open a bottle of wine. Upon realizing there's no food in the house, Rick volunteers to make the round trip back down the mountain to the little town of Stillwater for a pizza. Yes, after drinking half a bottle of wine on an empty stomach. And Hannah doesn't protest.
But when Rick hasn't returned by the next morning, she's just kind of well gee, I wonder what happened? For that whole next day, Rick doesn't show up, there's no water or electricity or phone or food, but Hannah does nothing. Finally the next morning, Trace the rancher shows up to deliver two horses, four cows, and six chickens. He finds Hannah sort of out of it -- she's had no food for roughly 36 hours, probably nothing to drink since the wine either, and there's been no mention of bathroom facilities -- and starts to take over. First thing he does is have a pizza delivered from Stillwater.
I think it's the day after that when Trace shows up again, this time to give Hannah lessons on how to feed her stock and run her ranch. Oh, he has also had the electricity turned on, and the landline phone. While he's there, the sheriff shows up. Sheriff Jane announces to Hannah that her "husband" has been killed when his truck ran off the mountain road and burned. Hannah is kind of stunned, but not very.
Wait. Freeze frame.
How did Sheriff Jane know it was Hannah's husband who drove the truck off the road? (Hannah and Rick aren't married, and Hannah so informs the sheriff.) Maybe Trace went into town and told her? I got the impression Trace didn't go into town, but maybe he just phoned everything in? But later, Jane doesn't know how to find out who Rick is so she can notify next of kin. Hello? Wouldn't you start by asking Hannah? And if she doesn't know, wouldn't you try tracing the vehicle? Who owned it? Was it rented? If so, there'd be records. And insurance. But Sheriff Jane seems utterly at a loss. There's also not going to be an autopsy because no one asked for one. Hello?
Okay, roll film again.
Trace gives this little hot to trot teenager Callie a fist full of cash to go buy groceries and cleaning supplies and deliver them to Hannah. I think Callie is the sheriff's daughter, and I think the sheriff told Trace she has no control over her daughter. (See what I mean about brainless characters?) So we've got this eighteen-year-old who has the hots for 30-something Trace, and she goes up to the ranch and hands over all the groceries and such to Hannah, while letting Hannah know that she (Callie) and Trace are a thing. (roll eyes) (roll eyes)
Hannah now has food and cleaning supplies, but she hasn't really started doing anything with them. Instead, she goes out to sit on the top rail of the corral fence and pet the horsies.
No thoughts about Rick, who died going to get her a pizza. No thoughts about what she's going to do for a vehicle to get into town once Callie's delivery of supplies runs out. No interest in replacing the cell phone she left in Rick's truck and that apparently died with him. No concerns about things like how she's going to pay her bills or what she's going to do without Rick to play cowboy and take care of the ranchy-type chores like feeding the stock, mucking out stalls, shoeing the horses, and all that other stuff that goes with actually owning a ranch.
I was so lost at this point that I actually read reviews to find out what the heck was going on. That's where I found out Hannah apparently won big on the lottery and that's how she bought the ranch only maybe she didn't really buy it and . . . . . . Shouldn't at least some of that have been brought up in the first 18% of the book? I mean some background would have been nice.
All these questions were raised via the text, and more via the reviews I read, but they didn't pique my curiosity. I don't care about Hannah. I don't care about Trace, who seems to think everything is okay because Hannah is beautiful. The fact that she's ignorant as a mosquito doesn't seem to bother him, or that she doesn't show very much appreciation for what he's done for her. Oh, she does like his dog, and she pets his horses -- or are they her horses now? -- but we're not clear on the cows. Are they dairy cows that have to be milked twice a day or are they beef steers or just what are they? Hannah seems to have an aversion to chicken eggs, which goes along with the information I got from the reviews -- not from the text -- that she's vegan. She does eat the pizza Trace had sent up to her, and didn't even pick off the pepperoni, but a vegan wouldn't eat the cheese either. And how to square that with the cows -- beef or dairy -- is also a little problematic, though it hasn't seemed to bother Hannah to this point.
The whole vegan thing was just part of the actual unspectacular writing, the putting together of sentences into paragraphs into pages into chapters. About all I can say is that the overall impression was bland. Point of view shifted a lot, the way it often does when a writer hasn't fully developed the skill to handle the often delicate nuances of POV. I caught a couple of word choice errors -- your/you're and breath/breathe -- but I just didn't really care enough about this book to pay close attention. The one bit of background information came via a brief and woefully inadequate info dump about Hannah and her childhood. The only hint of attraction between Trace and Hannah is that both them notice that the other is extremely good-looking, and apparently that's all that's needed.
At the 18% mark, I gave up. Not offensively bad, but it would be a real stretch for me to give this one anything approaching 1.5 stars and rounding up. So it stays at 1-star and DNF.
A handsome cowboy, a distressed heroine, and a mystery with lots of twists and turns. What more could we ask for in a good romantic suspense? Poor Hannah thought life was finally bringing her good luck and prosperity when she won the lottery. Instead her good luck turned rotten in a hurry. Her friend/partner meets with an untimely accident, her bank account is emptied, she is left without transportation on the ranch she believes she owns and now is in possession of animals she doesn’t know anything about. When Trace shows up with the animals, she mistakes him for a ranch hand, not the ranch owner. He sees she is in distress and does his best to help. When he learns her partner, the person who arranged to get the animals, is dead, he offers his assistance to the beautiful but overwhelmed Hannah. It doesn’t take long to discover the missing money, or for strange incidents to keep happening around Hannah. An over sexed, spiteful and rather spoiled teenager determined to get her hands on Trace, adds to Hannah’s troubles. As the incidents take a dangerous turn, Trace becomes determined to protect Hannah even if she isn’t sure she should trust him. A mutual attraction soon turns into something more, and the two lovers must find some way to stop the unseen enemy before things turn deadly.
I loved the intrigue and danger featured in this book along with the two fascinating, strong-willed main characters. I was hooked right from the first page to the last, anticipating a happy ending, but intrigued and captivated by their journey along the way. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved this book! Hannah Hudson + Trace McCallister = Explosive Romance! A ranch in Colorado, with horses, cows, chickens, and a faithful dog is not the likely scene of a mysterious murder. Follow Hannah and Trace as they dodge a maniacal killer who weaves in and out of their love affair. This easy, quick read captured my attention from the first page. The characters are believable and there are wonderful character descriptions. You will not be able to put this fabulous book down! Great blend of romance and suspense. The heroine is completely relatable as she interacts with cowboys, cops, and killers. And always in the company of her faithful dog and horse. Great read!!! Can't wait to delve into the next McAllister Brothers sequel!
I don’t even know where to start. Hannah wasn’t naive - she was just beyond dumb and selfish besides. When she finds out her best“friend” (the one she gave half of her 5 million lottery winnings to buy a ranch) dies her first comment is that he ruined everything- shame on him for getting burned up in a fire when his car goes off the road. Also, when asked who to notify about his death she has no idea if he has any friends or family. She takes everything Trace does for her for granted and pretty much expects it. When she finds out her money is missing she whines about not having internet and he jumps to try to make her happy. He is obviously no smarter than her…which is really saying something. I also don’t understand how, before she won the lottery, she could hardly pay her rent but was a party girl who went clubbing every weekend. How this book got such good ratings I’ll never understand. Poor writing, totally unrealistic, and the “heroine “ was so unlikeable I couldn’t even finish. Definitely will not finish the series.
So many people want to win the lottery. Maybe they should talk with Hannah. Winning the lottery is only bringing her misery and may just get her killed.
The moment Trace met Hannah, he was drawn into her orbit. Little did he know that being around her could be dangerous and deadly.
Colorado Takedown was an easy read romance with potential. That said, even though the plot had an element of mystery and danger, it was just not very tight. I did like Trace's character, but during much of the story I really wanted to shake Hannah. At the end there was a glimpse of a happy ending, but a number of questions and issues were left hanging. I suspect that the less than satisfying ending was because this is the first book of the series.
Content alert: mild fade-out intimacy and one use of “f” word by villain.
I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Suspenseful, dramatic and romantic this book takes the reader on an unexpected ride. Hannah thought she was embarking on a new adventure, little realising that her dreams are about to be upended. As treachery unfolders, questions are raised and Trace recognises that if he doesn't stand by Hannah, she is pretty much on her own. Trace is initially a reluctant hero, but as his relationship with Hannah develops, he becomes more protective and appreciative of the unconventional woman that has landed in his life. The story wouldn't be complete without Oatie and Lewissa and the connection that Hannah has with them. Not all my questions were answered in this book, although it does come to a happy conclusion. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
Colorado Takedown by Cricket Rohman is a wonderful start to the McCallister Brothers Trilogy. You’ll find plenty of action, humor, mystery, drama, and of course romance.
Trace & Hannah are worthy of the leads in the book. They come together with a heat only found in instant chemistry. The actual relationship feels slower-paced even though the time frame doesn’t allow for that. It’s a nice touch.
The pacing moves the story along quite nicely and the characters are well-developed and engaging.
The back story is told through narrative instead of flashbacks. I like that.
Rohman ends book 1 by tying up most of the loose ends, yet sets up book 2 intriguingly. There are definitely more mysteries to solve with the characters in this book.
I had to heavily skim this book to get to the end. I found our heroine very unlikeable, and I spent the first several chapters wondering what was wrong with her, as she seemed really off. The story line was also so very far fetched and I couldn't figure out what our hero liked in our heroine. Overall, I did not like this story. *I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was an exciting read, full of tense situations, great characters (the good guys and the despicable), and very lovable animals! The twisty adventure begins as the story starts and takes you through treachery, new love, family and courage.
Hannah was incredibly naive in this book handing over half of her lottery winnings to a guy she was friends with so he could purchase a ranch for them. She didn’t even have him put the money nor the ranch in her name. I could tell his motives weren’t pure when he tried to get her to marry him on the way to the ranch. And then after he leaves her at the ranch, his truck goes off the road and burns up. It made me wonder if he was trying to take her money and run while covering up his tracks. The book was intense at times with all the bad things that kept happening to Hannah. I don’t know how she could stay alone at the ranch. Trace was a sexy cowboy, but he and Hannah spend plenty of time arguing. She’s overly emotional at times although I don’t blame her for being upset about all the time he spends with Callie who keeps trying to seduce him and break them up. Trace should have been more upfront with Hannah about his suspicions instead of trying to downplay things. I loved all the animals in the book especially Trace’s dog Oatie and Hannah’s horse Lewissa, who were both very protective of her.
Hannah and her friend Rick finally arrive at their newly purchased ranch. He heads to town for food and other supplies, and is killed in a fiery crash. It turns out that they didn't purchase the ranch; Rick leased it from Trace. But strange things begin to happen - a nearby ranch has one of the cows poisoned, someone who looks like Rick empties Hannah's bank account, her house phone line is cut, and more... Is Rick really the one who was killed in the crash? If so, then who took Hannah's money? Last year, I read the third book in this series, and it was just fine as a standalone. But I've wanted to read the first two, and grabbed this opportunity for Colorado Takedown. There is mystery and suspense, action, kidnapping, murder, and of course, a wonderful romance. The book is well written, and the story line flows well. The more time that Hannah and Trace spend together, the cuter they become, with truly funny banter between them. It's hilarious that Oatie, his dog, likes her better, and so does Lewissa, the horse. On to the next book...

The story is about our lead character, 'Hannah Hudson'. She had dreams for a changed life after marriage, and she literally hoped for that unless everything changed for her. Her expectations were ruined, and she found herself trapped in a mysterious and dangerous situation. She tried escaping, but with the least expertise and knowledge about the area, she couldn't succeed. Then she meets our hero, 'Trace McAllister', a wise, local, and rugged cowboy with a charming smile. She couldn't help but trust him and seek help. He aids her in many ways, and this blooms the love between them. The story-telling is extremely gripping. Just when you feel that everything is going to be perfect, a new twist will change the direction, and you will be hooked to read the next chapter. I couldn't put the book down; I kept turning the pages and dwelling in Hannah's world. The characters are well drafted, and even the supporting characters like pets and their interactions with them are engaging. Overall, it was an entertaining read, and it served its purpose.
I didn't think romance would be anywhere on my list of Western genres I enjoy, but I liked the work Rohman put together here. The writing is engaging, and I felt like I could know the characters, and that's hard to do. Heck, even Oatie was awesome.
The book opens with Rick and Hannah joking about a fake marriage as they cruise toward Hanna's new ranch. As they put it, it kicks off their great adventure. Rohman takes little time to get the action going, as the mystery and intrigue kick off early. It's evident that Hannah is not ready to be alone and leans on her new neighbor for support and knowledge...in many ways. Hannah's eyes are bigger than her belly, so to speak, and unexpected twists pop up throughout the book.
I thought that the storyline was good and that side of the book was enjoyable
I will admit though that the style of writing wasn’t great for me – it was a little too “laid back”, there was no punch when important things occurred. It was almost like oh dear, well its happened, let’s move on, I have read a lot of books in this genre so know what I am looking for too and what works for me – always willing to try out a new author but I wasn’t a huge fan of this one, it could have been much better had a different approach been used as they story itself was good.
COLORADO TAKEDOWN is a fun romance mystery with lots of twists and turns. Hannah, a naive city girl, believes she has fulfilled her dream and purchased a ranch in the Colorado mountains. However, fate deals her a blow when she finds out she has been swindled out of her money and that she doesn’t own the ranch. Fortunately, Trace McAllister, a sexy, smart, cowboy enters her life and saves the day. I really enjoyed this romantic western adventure and look forward to reading other books by this Author.
