I enjoyed Her Impossible Boss for the most part mainly because of Tess who was young(23), hip and full of life. Being the baby of the family and having two over-achieving sisters meant she had an easy time of it and was allowed to get away with it. She's changed jobs often, lives at home and has never taken on that much responsibility mainly because the people in her life never made her but all of this is pointed out to her by Matt, her sister's boss and to whom she went for an interview for the position of a nanny to his daughter.

Matt is a work-alcoholic and make no apologies for it, he comes from wealth and can't understand Tess's attitude and lack of ambition, as the women in his life are qualified. His marriage was a mistake and due to his now dead ex-wife he hardly knows his daughter.

Tess takes the job and starts making Matt spend time with his daughter. Matt is getting attracted to her so he tries to plan an outing with his girlfriend that goes terribly and he ends up going to Tess to vent.

They end up starting a physical relationship and even though Matt is not her type
Tess thinks it may mean something more when Matt shoots her down. She ends up pregnant.

I loved how Tess stood up to him in the end and tells him not to crowd her. I liked how Matt became fearful that Tess would find someone else and forget him though I did feel Tess suddenly started believing him in the end when he confessed his love.

I see a lot of reviews saying how much they loved this h.

But the h told the H it was safe when he said to her he needed to use protection, so he went on. And yes, she got pregnant.

In my opinion there is nothing ‘nice’ about a woman who gets pregnant because she was too h*rny, urging him to go on, telling him it is safe and trapping a man into pregnancy that way.

She thought her menstrual cycle would protect her from pregnancy, but even we as high school girls back in the ‘80s were warned at school and in magazines that that is not safe. 🙄

It’s a HP, so of course there is a HEA, but in real life this would be a major deceit from her side.

It’s well written, so 4 stars.

A little lukewarm for me. I’ve read and liked some other books from CW but I’m feeling a bit of a trend with her semi-alpha Hs. Not exactly beta but I needed more aggressive wheedling from the H

Tess is on a short trip to the states to visit her sister who works an important post in a firm. She isn’t really looking for work but she does land a job interview to play nanny to a workaholic CEO’s ten year old girl. This man is also Tess’s sister’s boss.

The h is soft and easy going. She doesn’t have any set goals nor any career or education planning. She’s just been sent by her parents to spend time with her sister so she can maybe figure out what to do in life.

Tess gets the job. She gets on with the H’s daughter pretty fine. The first order of the day is to have the girl wear trendy and tight fitting clothes- the kind Tess also wears.

The h also talks much and isn’t very inhibited on what not to say. She isn’t exactly vying for attention from the girl’s dad but soon enough she is. Since this is my pet peeve so the book pretty much went downhill from there on for me.

There’s a weak moment where the H goes to the h to vent and instantly enough the h makes the move on him. She has to be told by the H to hold on and not shed her clothes and let him have some part in it. They’re pretty regular at it after that until the h realizes she might be pregnant.

She goes to the H to find out if he would ever take her seriously and he clarifies that he wouldn’t ever. What was beyond me was the h and H being completely oblivious to their state of mind.

There was no neutral way to judge the h. I thought she was rather opportunistic when she’s doing everything you do for fun while you know that it isn’t long term. And yet you also get needy and want that HEA. Tess also reiterates enough times that she’s not into money but she did exactly what any other gold digger would do.

As a last resort I was hoping that she’d keep her pregnancy a secret and let the H come find her. But no. She also goes to the H and confesses and THEN decides to walk away.

Eventually they’re both soothed by some famous last words of lasting love. I wasn’t convinced of their romance.

But it was still a nicely written story, just the mc’s weren’t my cake.

Such a fun book! Tess is quirky, emotional, and enjoys life to its fullest. She has a positive outlook on love and life and she is filled with compassion. She is a free spirit, sweet, wears her heart on her sleeve and has a heart of gold!

Matt on the other hand is a control freak. He is a single dad. He is powerful, calm, and sinfully seductive. He makes it clear he’s very attracted to her but he’s not marriage material. He doesn't believe in true love and soul-mates. Which doesn't stop him from wanting, not just Tess's body but also the warmth she brings to every room.

The chemistry between the two is so incredible that it makes you want a relationship like that too. Matt was fantastic. I loved how protective and possessive he was of Tess when he thought she would be moving on. He cherished and truly loved her but he was so in denial poor guy!

A very sweet and funny read with lots of tenderness. The ending was adorable!!

This is my fourth Cathy Williams and... I recognised a pattern.

Three out of four heroines were virgins. Three out of four heroines got pregnant. All heroes were ruthless bastards, alpha males. All heroines were below 25. Three out of four heroines weren't academic. All of heroines were the heroes' subordinate.
Story flows were almost identical.

I am looking for something different actually but seems I haven't.

This one is nice enough actually but with pretty much same pattern with different way of story writing, I don't think that it was any different.

I like the female character, Tess, because she was refreshing and enjoyable. other than her the story line was overused and a bit dry. The book wasn't entirely bad the main reason I didn't like the book that much was because Ms. Williams has the tendency to tell us what the characters are doing rather than show us. I was intrigued as to how Tess would approach and "bond" with Matt's daughter. I was sorely disappointed when the author told us they bonded over clothes. Not the worse book I have read but certainly not the best.

I’ve enjoyed several of this author’s books but this one left me underwhelmed. The heroine Tess was the youngest and seemed totally okay with drifting through life at the age of 23. Everything that Tom accused her of, was spot on. I didn’t find any of smug pronouncements about life at all acceptable. She really came across as very naive and very juvenile (though sweet) and quite frankly I just couldn’t accept that Matt would be attracted to her, let alone fall madly in love.

I also found the way in which she swiftly transformed the dynamic between Samantha and Matt, utterly unbelievable and far too fantastical. Also, the idea that she was suddenly going to be able to transform herself into a teacher was just stretching credibility too far - yet again. As for lying about contraception - please! That’s just not on.

Sorry, it’s not a bad book but I just found it unconvincing - but I’ll still read this author.

“You’re twenty three years old and you’ve held down eight jobs. I think it’s fair to say that it is a lot.”

Tess Kelly has travelled to New York to make some decisions about her life. She gets a job as a nanny for her sister’s boss, Matt Strickland and his daughter, Samantha. With a history of not being able to stay at a job for long, she is determined to succeed at this one.
Matt has his reservations about hiring Tess as his 10 year old’s nanny, but he’s desperate. He takes a chance and soon finds that his life, as he knows it, is in for some serious changes.

I loved Tess. She is a hip, quirky, heroine that brings a warm, freshness to the HP universe. This is by far my favorite character from Cathy Williams, and my favorite of all her books. It is a definite must read .

This book missed the 5 star mark for me because of the hero. He did complete 180 the minute he thought that he would lose out on his baby's life again. It was crazy how inconsistent he was even in his thoughts that revelled only his distrust of her and his lust. I did not feel the love however he dropped the L bomb and she fell for it. I did not however it was just too in keeping with his manipulative manners. Only he treats her like some whore and not like his partner. I like the heroine but did not love her. She was cute and funny at times but really stupid also. These are my thoughts on it. Others May vary but that's my take on this. Worth a read but not a keep.

I totally get waiting for your 'prince' in this dirty disillusioned modern world which is exactly what Tess the heroine in this story does. This was refreshing because for once in this genre the woman sticks to what she believes and a moral standard that too many people throw unscrupulously to the side of the road.
I liked this short novel. I'm going to look up more books by Cathy Williams. Three and a half stars!

It was quite average. The plot was good but the writing was bleh. The author never really showed development. It was just yep she fell in love with him and yep he loved her as well. Not really, the story of HOW she feel in love more like yeah she fell in love but you're never gonna see what happened lol

Not quite what the tycoon ordered. Successful New York businessman Matt Strickland expects nothing but the very best. However, his newest employee nanny Tess Kelly is a world away from the requirements stipulated in his advertisement. The words sensible, smart and strict just aren't in this firecracker's vocabulary! Matt's smouldering sexiness might be off the scale, but Tess thinks his capacity for fun definitely shows room for improvement. She's used to bringing out the best in her little charges, but it's a whole different ball game with her gorgeous boss, when he's determined to keep things professional.
