It was a good thing I read the prequel, it gave this book some back story. Overall, it was an easy smutty read. I felt like it moved a little too quickly but I rather have a fast book than a slow book.

You really don’t know which person she will pick. In my opinion all three guys didn’t seem so great.

It’s not a RH so get that out of your head. She is just confused on who she should be with. The main storyline isn’t about the two brothers (even though that is what is mentioned in the blurb).

It’s about Ophelia deciding what she wants to do. She was held captive by Kain for some time and it changed her.

Now she’s with Max and it doesn’t seem like she has freedom.

I’m moving on to the next book since the reads are so easy to read.

I guess I jinxed myself by loving that prequel so much. I’m not even sure how to describe the absolute chaos of this book. JFC I’m going to do my best to write a review….. Hopefully it’ll be enough to deter you from reading.

Reminder: this is published on KU as "Entrapment" by Isabella Starling, but the Kindle Notes are tied to this book. It's the exact same book, and I now suspect they changed the name & author because it sucks and they’re trying to con more people into reading it.

During the prequel Ophelia Sokolov (18, virgin, Russian) was celebrating turning 18 by getting engaged to Max Marino (20-ish, Italian), while also being in love with his twin brother Ryker Marino (20-ish, Italian). Then bad boy Kain (19) shows up to kill everyone, stabs Ryker, sends Max away, and takes Ophelia to his home where he strips her and locks her in a birdcage.

This book picks up at that point, but then jumps 5 years ahead, and then back 2 years, and then back to the beginning, and then we’re back to the 5-year jump.

One of the biggest issues you might have is the noncon sex. I also had issues with the inconsistency and conflicting information. Let me tell you the safe stuff.

SEX: For as much as they talk about sex, there isn’t much actual sex happening at all. The sex that IS depicted is all noncon and not a single scene is sexy. Ophelia’s V is taken via noncon at 12%. At 16%, one of the 3 guys in this book takes someone in a noncon situation. None of them are descriptive. There is a lot of degradation and a lot of violence in the sexual scenes. If you’re reading it, it’s def not for smut.

AUDIO: I tried to listen, but the narration didn’t match what was being said – which makes sense now because what was being said didn’t match the actions. I quit the audio and read it instead because I was so fucking confused. I don’t recommend the book, but I also don’t recommend the audio.

WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT: Personally, I think this book is one big fucking mess. I need to bitch about it so I’m putting it all in spoilers so you can’t be mad at me for spoiling anything.

I could go on and on about the conflicting info – but since I’m not going to read the rest of this trilogy, I won’t waste any more time.

Reread on 7/6/18...waiting for book 2!

"Wings: A Dark Mafia Romance (Gilded Cage Book 1) was riveting with heroine, Ophelia caged for five years by demented and sometimes fairly "normal" but very possessive villain, Kain. This story drew me in... into the darkness of Kain while we learn early on the tale what Ophelia's father made him witness... his own family death so what more can we expect beside that silver cage which she lived in and was trained to be his 'dolly'. The years moved fast and just as soon as you are learning Kain's dark ways and Ophelia's signs of Stockholm syndrome ... BOOM, she's rescued if you can call it that from one cage to another.

Dang! What a INTENSE storyline... I can't wait till Book 2

Storyline: 5 stars
Editing: 1 Star

”It was as if I lived in two separate worlds - one with Max and the Marinos, with my now long-gone family, and another when my only purpose was to be Kain's obedient little plaything. But the problem was, I didn't know where I belonged. I had a bad feeling that I was meant for neither of those two lives.”

IN SUMMARY: This is one of the most infuriating books I’ve read in a while due to the lack of editing. Usually, I would DNF and definitely, definitely not continue reading the series, but I love this deliciously dark storyline and need to find out what happens next!!!!

FULL REVIEW:
There were MANY inconsistencies between this book and the prequel as well as solely in this book. For example, Ophelia is told that she will never wear clothes again, yet in chapter 4 she is instructed to take her clothes off when she complains of feeling restricted. There are also a lot of missing details and information. For example, Kain says, “ I taught her to crave pain and flourish under my care,” yet we aren’t given any details about what that training included. Bailey then catapults ahead 2 years, Kain instructing Ophelia to be waiting for him by the front door when he returns. When did he allow her to start leaving her cage? Perhaps Ophelia’s emotions and behaviors wouldn’t have seemed so far-fetched if we had been given a glimpse into her training or how she‘d transformed into something so completely different from the woman Kain first kidnapped? Just as I was wondering this, we are catapulted ahead another 5 years. Although this would technically take us 7 years ahead total, for some Bailey says Ophelia was gone a total of 5 years?? And finally the typos... Ugh! “ Max was a changed mine” and “He made me lie down on my belly and positioned himself on top of him.” Typos are my biggest pet peeve, and this book is full of them!! Honestly, I’m still surprised that I am continuing on in the series! The fact that I am willing to try to ignore these issues (something I never do) says a lot about how intrigued and entertained I am by this storyline!!!!

I find the blurb for this book misleading. I thought this story was going to be a love triangle between Ryker, Max, and Ophelia but it ended up being completely different than I expected especially with Ophelia's captor Kain in the mix.

Ophelia Sokolov has known the Marino twin brothers her whole life. Both family's are part of the mafia, the Marino's are Italian and the Sokolov's are Russian. As she grew older, Ophelia fell in love with Ryker even though she was promised to his brother Max as part of a mafia pact deal.

On her 18th birthday, Ophelia's entire family is murdered right before her eyes. She is then captured by Kain (her family's murderer) and kept as a prisoner. She is raped by him and kept in a literal cage for over 5 years. During this time, she develops Stockholm Syndrome and falls in love with him.

5 years later (on her birthday) she is captured again by Max's friend Rueben Thorn then handed over to Max. She is still engaged to be married to Max after all this time but does not love him nor want to marry him. She feels guilty because she knows she's responsible for why Max was taken and placed in a fighting ring to the death for several years but despite her time with him realizes she is in love with Kain.

I like reading dark romances but this one just wasn't for me. I think there were a lot of good ideas and twists but I didn't think they were executed properly.

For instance, the fact that we learn that even though Ophelia witnessed her family murdered before her eyes she really didn't. We learn when Kain visits her at Max's place that he only murdered her father and not her mother or siblings. We learn that Ophelia's father murdered Kain's family and thus he murdered him in turn.

I just didn't like that it took 5 years for Ophelia to learn this information. Why? It's kind of crucial plus it's dumb that we're told one thing and then another. Did she or didn't she witness her family murdered? If not, are we just to assume she was so traumatized by her rape that she refused to speak because she was ashamed that she was turned on by someone she thought murdered her entire family? I feel like witnessing the murders on top of the rape would have helped push her to that breaking point.

Also, because Ophelia refused to speak for all that time she was with Kain it makes it hard for me to believe they're in love with one another. You cannot fall for someone without communication. I didn't find that part realistic. At that point, it's just lust.

Also, we're supposed to believe that Ophelia was taken innocently and not part of Kain's plot but then we are missing so much information by the end of the book. At what point was Ophelia in on his scheme? Was she part of it from the beginning or only when Kain paid a visit to Max's home? I feel like that scene was necessary to tie up any loose ends with the story otherwise it doesn't make much sense when they're talking to each other at the end of the book about how everything went according to plan.

Also, I found Ophelia grew less likeable towards the end of the book. I'm not sure if I'm the only one but she started to piss me off. I hated how she said she felt like Max deserved to be in pain when he got shot and that he deserved what came to him for how he treated her.

Um, hello? Both Ryker and Kain talked to you like you were a slut and Kain raped you. Sure, Max was a dick saying you were used goods after being raped and saying you should be thanking him for wanting to marry you because no one else would. However, he never forced you to have sex with him and he didn't physically harm you. The only scene where he harrassed you was when you were getting fitted for your wedding dress. Other than that, he made sure you were well fed, gave you clothes, took you to see your friend perform in an opera, gave you a bed to sleep on and not a cage, and he didn't parade you around naked for the whole world to see. Kain never allowed you to leave your room or your cage ...I was just frustrated with her by the end of the book.

I don't think I'll continue with this series.

Wings: A Dark Mafia Romance (Gilded Cage Book 1) by Fawn Bailey is such a dark and delicious romance read. You have the heroine heroine, Ophelia who was caged for 5 years by the psycho villain Kain.. He was super possessive yet at times he could be somewhat kind but only when he wanted to, mainly he was cruel towards her. We learned things about Kain and the things Ophelia’s father had him witness. In turn he made Ophelia his “dolly” and oh boy, did things get dark and hot between them. She resisted but fell victim to the Stockholm syndrome—their relationship was all sorts of messed up but what can I say? I loved this messed up relationship. Just when things were becoming all hot and steamy, Ophelia was “rescued” –well more like jumping from one villain to another—or should I say one cage to another. I cannot wait to see what book 2 holds for poor Ophelia and her twisted and demented loves. This is one steamy, twisted, dark and angsty read this is so good, that I hated when this ended. I enjoyed every moment and look forward to reading the next book in the Gilded Cage series.

I've been wanting for this book for a while now and once I had my claws on it I devour it in no time. Jeez... Fawn Bailey is a pen name for the amazing Isabella Starling so you can guess what's going to happen. Between a forbidden romance to a dark story she's the master and her books just came to reinforce my theory.
Wings is her latest release and tells the stories of Ophelia, Kain, Max and Ryder.
But there is one thing I need to tell you first. Grab Feather first. Doing so you will understand this series better.
As you know, Ophelia was kidnapped and hold hostage by the enigmatic Kain. She can't deal with the lost not only of her patents but also of her freedom. How can someone be so cruel? How can she overcome this? Will she submit to one of the brothers or stay with the bad guy?
And I'm done talking. I can't say more without spoil so I'm going to shut it down.
Like I suspected this story just stole my heart. The darkness surrounding the plot almost drove me crazy but I loved every page.
Fantastic plot, very well written, super dark, intense and so much more. Each chapter have us the ugly truth behind each action and made us realize that karma will get you. No matter how you try to hide your past because when the opportunity arose it will get you.
Crime, vengeance, betrayal are very present as well as love, loyalty and so much more...
Is it weird to become aroused with the forbidden? Does that make you a weirdo?
I'm so happy to have book 3 ready because I wouldn't be able to wait for it.
Fawn this book will be my undoing... Seriously... You're trying to kill me...

Interesting dark, twisted read. Ophelia was captured and taken by Kain after almost everyone at her 18th birthday/engagement announcement party was brutally murdered. Forced to choose between the twin she was arranged to wed and the twin she loved, she watched as Ryker was stabbed in the stomach and left for dead and Max (her husband-to-be) was beat and taken away.

Fast forward several years later and Ophelia/dolly is now in a more compliant and almost Stockholm type of relationship with Kain. Captured once, Ophelia is once again 'rescued' and taken into another form of captivity. Max has found Ophelia and had her rescued and ultimately returned to him. Max is no longer the sweet boy with the kind eyes, now he is a hard man preparing to take over his Italian family...and make Ophelia marry him...

This is book 1 in a trilogy and it follows the free prequel which must be read to understand the story. I was a bit on the fence with the prequel as it was a bit complex and I didn’t understand or connect with the characters. Now that Kain has taken Ophelia as his prisoner we are taken on a boundary pushing journey. I really wanted to love this story, but there were quite a few inconsistencies or confusing elements. Beacause, I am a person who has to know how this ends, I will read the final book, but based on how things are in this one, it won’t be a favorite read. It’s truly sad, as the basic book had so much promise, but it could have used better editing for flow and character development.

Crazy

This book was crazy. I liked it a lot despite it really needing some professional editing. Some things I expected, but others I definitely didn't. Ophelia ended up with who I was rooting for, though. Looking forward to what comes next.

Wow! Where did this story come from? I don't know if I should be praising this authors mind or be slightly scared. This was a FANTASTIC story. It was full of darkness and deceit, but also well balanced with passion and lust. I was surprised with how much I passion I had when I read this story. I thought I know what this story was about and what was going to happen but I was sorely mistaken. I was pleasantly surprised with I got it ALL wrong. Even if you think that you get this story from reading the free prequel Feathers, you will be happy to know it will surpass your expectations.

I do believe that you need to read Feathers first, just because you get a great introduction to the background of the three main characters before the "madness" of this story begins. I loved every pages of this book and could not put it down. I will be waiting with bated breather for book two because I NEED to know what happens next. I highly recommend this story to any dark romance readers, just be warned when it states dark it means it for many readers. So THAT'S who she is!

Mystery solved! I got so excited when I realized this book explains part of the authors other related series (Rose and Thorn) that I've been wondering about since I read it. Ophelia is the dark-haired girl that befriends Harlow, and this story explains who she is and why she was in that mansion.

No one escaped unscathed from Ophelia's tragic 18th birthday party--not even her captor,
Kain. He's effected by his little dolly in ways he didn't predict. He has her naked, caged and his prisoner for years, hurting her in ways that train her to crave pain with pleasure---and he isn't even the worst monster who's after her.

Although this is not a standalone, it can be read like one and will still make sense, but reading the prequel Feather; will help readers understand more about the characters and why all this violence and chaos is happening.

As I read more, I keep going back and forth with what I think about the characters in this series--and the larger universe these events take place in. Who's "good" and who's "bad" aren't very clear and easily change.

Raw and disturbing...

And so the main event begins.....described within these pages is a violent world where whole families can be slaughtered, and princesses stolen and violated at the whim of a vengeful and maleficent adversary...

The characters in this book are very much the products of their brutal worlds....and Ophelia appears to be a slightly strange victim and pawn although there are moments when a hidden strength shines through even in the darkest of situations...Kain, Ryker and Max are all complicated and, at times, unfathomable characters, and it is by no means certain which, if any, of these men deserve to be respected, loved or despised....maybe all of these at once..

I was gripped by this raw, disturbing and twisted story, and the ending, a cliffhanger, changes the dynamics all over again..I am already desperate for the next book...I received an advanced copy from the author

This was pretty dark- but what do you expect from a mafia romance? Fluffy bunnies? I recommend reading the prequel to this series first. You need to. Anyways.

This made me think about pain and domination- how your reaction all depends on what your feelings are for the person in charge, You definitely see a difference in how Ophelia responds based on who it is. At about like 30% I was totally shocked but I shouldn't have been. What happens in that moment makes total sense, maybe I am just slow to figure things out.

I am totally digging this new series and can't wait for the next book. I like this author's darker side.

What have I just read?!
This read was DARK DARK and disturbing like not many things I had read before. Ms. Bailey has it in her writing that will make you captive in it.
Ophelia was caged for 5 years after seeing her family slaughtered. Her captor... Kain... he was a man that you wanted to hate, the Master that will punish you but also you will crave for him.
What will happen after that 5 years? Will Ophelia manage to stop thinking about Kain? Or he is her love of the life?
To find it out read this book.

Could have been 5 stars

This book could have been 5 stars but it had editing issues. “I listened to the house getting emptier and empties as Max took me to the playroom. The second we were in there, he looked the door and looked at me with an expression that didn't belong on his face.” This was one of many.

While celebrating her 18th birthday & the official start of her relationship with Max, terrible tragedy strikes leaving Ophelia an orphan and a hostage. She is forced to choose with of the Marino twins would survive & in doing so sends the other to his death. In the years that she spends with her captive she learns the way to act and comes to crave the punishments she is dealt. Until her captor leaves her and she is ‘rescued’ by Thorn (remember him from the author’s Rose & Thorn series?). While Ophelia is being held captive, Max is fighting his way back to her - literally. He will stop at nothing to get Ophelia back, safe with him. But things aren’t at all what they seem and the drama escalates very quickly in this first book of the Gilded Cage Trilogy.

Fawn Bailey has such a way with words; she will write the darkest Heroes that seem to have no redeeming qualities & heroines that seem to dainty to help themselves, but you quickly learn that her characters are not all that they seem. I love how she writes romances that are so dark but so full of love & hope at the same time. It may not be a conventional romance but the connection between her Hero & heroine are stronger than most. This book isn’t a very long one & it ends on quite a cliffhanger; if you follow my reviews then you know I do not like cliffhangers but I can’t resist the amazing works of this author - so I will deal with it until I can read the next book. The action and drama of this book had the pace moving steadily along and before I knew it I was done with the book. I can’t wait to see what comes next for Ophelia!

WHAT THE FUCK! This book...HOLY FUCK! I stayed up all night just to find out what was going to happen...Fawn Bailey knows exactly how to feed my dark romance needs! This is a continuation of Feathers. It starts where we left off. Ophelia has been kidnapped by someone who wanted revenge on her father.

As we read the book we see the man who kidnapped her change her from the bratty princess we met in Feathers into everything he wants her to be. Into everything he needs her to be. There's so many sides to this villain throughout the book. At times my heart ached for him. Other times I was warmed by how he treated Ophelia. Other times I was ready to freaken piss my pants because he made me forget he was a villain for a second and I let my guard down only for him to you know start acting like the insane villain he is...MEHN I LOVE HIM!!!! Scared of him...but LOVE him🤣

Ophelia is an odd ball but it is expected after everything she went through. After everything Kain did to her. After realizing that she was not going to be able to escape him she starts conforming herself to be Master's perfect little doll.

When they finally get comfortable around each other, one of the Twin Hunks, Max comes to her rescue. Problem is Ophelia doesn't want to be rescued. What's worse is Max isn't the shy sweet guy that we met in Feathers. Kain also isn't one to let his possessions go.

This story has some insane plot twists...one specifically that had me ready to throw my kindle and curse Fawn out at 3am! I can't wait to see where this story goes! So ready for book 3!

OH WOW! Fawn Bailey has excelled herself with this book in the guilded cage series. What a brilliant story with so many twists that leaves you wanting no NEEDING more.

This story drew me in from the start with Ophelia being kidnapped by a young boy Kain to get revenge for the death of his family. He kept her locked up for five years where he wanted to break her and leave her broken because of who she was.I love a dark romance book and this did not dissappoint at all.

Ophelia is full of hate and anger who wants revenge for this man (Kain) who took her family and made her choose between the two brothers dooming one to die and the other to live.Kain becomes obssessed with Ophelia and bends her to his will where she doesn't know if she hates him or loves him.One minuet is he good and kind to her the next he is putting lies in her head. You get to see a different side to Kain as one minuet you hate him and the next you love him.

After being in captivaty for five years she is rescued by Max one of the brothers, but there is one problem with that she doesn't want to be rescued and Max isn't now the nice brother that he was before,he has changed but not for the better, plus Kain isn't about to let his possession go.

There are lots of twists to this story that you never see coming and the revelations that happen at the end of this book is mindblowing.OMG i need the next book to find out what is now going to happen like NOW.I love Fawn Bailey's style of writing that keeps you the reader on the edge of your seat with how this story unfolds,Brilliant sheer Brilliant.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book. OMG! What the hell just happened here? I’m speechless and that is really hard to do, I literally just picked my jaw up off the floor in the WTF moment that just happened I did not see that coming. Wow, we pick up where the prequel left off, broken and battered, Ophelia has been doomed to a life with Kain the man who kidnapped her, leaving her reeling and having to make a choice between two brothers, dooming one to his death and one set free. She’s full of hate, anger and revenge on the man who took her family, how life can change in an instant, you are no longer the sweet innocent young girl you once were, now you are craving his touch, his words, his punishments and you hate yourself for it. No spoilers here, all I can tell you is that I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down and now I’m just dumbfounded by the cliffhanger, like I said earlier it’s definitely a WTF moment when it all starts to come together in your head and you are like holly crap and reading it out loud at work hoping no one will hear what you are saying, yep that was me, I had to re-read it just to be sure I was seeing what I was seeing. Wow, just wow, this is the first book in the series and if this is any indication of how it going to, ladies you better buckly up this series is going to be sooo good and a bumpy road for Kain and Ophelia, I can’t wait for Flight! Absolutely brilliant!
