I am following Preeti Shenoy on twitter since January 2017. I have window shopped all her books on Amazon. So when I got the copy of "Love a Little Stronger" for review, it was a big moment for me. You may say an SRK fan was asked to watch SRK's new movies on premier and was asked to review the movie.

Before I got to content when I had unwrapped the book, my son liked the cover so much he took the book. It required cajoling from my side to get the book from him.

Now coming to content, I think the author has shared some golden moments of her life. These moments comprised of humorous incidents, some life changing events, some learning lessons. If all of these happened with Preeti then I think she is a lucky person to experience them. Stories include
- Her struggles in becoming an author
- Her parenting years
- Her teenage or early years of marriage
She has also given funny and/or important list that we can keep in our mind.

In short, you can think this book as Chicken Soup for Soul. Differences are single author and theme is life (unlike Chicken Soup books). The book is so lightweight in content but so deep-rooted in the context that one can feed it to their productive mind. Take this book on your journey, you will enjoy it. I have finished the book in 2 sittings though you can do it in a single sitting as well.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to read something light & meaningful. Language is pretty simple to follow. Those who are learning English or would like to cultivate reading habit can take this book.

Often occupied with our daily schedules and deadlines, we tend to overlook though little but very priceless moments of our life. Do we ever cherish such little moments? Do we capture them and recall them when we are in low spirits?
Well, in this book, the author has brought together fifty such pleasing stories of her life where few are her experiences or few her observations which will recollect all the positive vibes in your life and seize them for forever.
The book has been divided into five parts narrating snippets from her life talking about amusing moments with her children, siblings and parental love, cheerful short life incidents and moments and all things positive and inspirational.
I was absorbed in the book from the very beginning and found myself smiling and giggling through the stories. Where few stories will leave you in intense thought whilst others will influence and enlighten you.
When the author narrates amusing stories of her children, the reader is sure to get nostalgic. It reminded me of my cheerful childhood moments too. Moreover, the book can be related by each and every person regardless of their age.
Owing to simple yet impactful writing style, it was so effortless connecting with the author and her stories.
The best thing I learned as a reader and aspiring writer from this book, that an encouragement to write about all such small yet precious moments of my life too.

Why to read this book
You will love this book irrespective of whether you read short stories or not. These stories are comforting and tranquilizing. You must grab this one for sure.

‘Love A Little Stronger’ by Preeti Shenoy is a book that ought to be on your bed side when you are braving the storms. It will reaffirm your faith that the storm will pass and the skies will be clear soon.

The 50 stories in the book are either narration of incidents from her own life or are astute observations of people around her. Some of them will make you laugh or bring out tears or even make you ponder about life in general.

The author is an enchantress. She creates magic with her words. Within no time, you will find yourself completely immersed in the book. Reading the stories will make you feel as though you are reliving the moments of your life for the second time. The conclusions drawn by the author at the end of them will resonate with you on many levels.

Things like booking a trunk call, extensive usage of floppy disks, the unmistakable sound of internet will make the early 90s kids nostalgic. Towards the end of the book, the author has penned down listicles based on her own life experiences that will unleash the best in you.

This is the perfect book to curl up with on any day of the week. Finishing this book will make you wiser and lighten your spirits.

Book Review:
Preeti Shenoy has written 9 books in her writing career and she has been consistently nominated for the Forbes List of the 100 most influential celebrities in India since 2013. She was also a keynote speaker at Birmingham Literature Festival where the cover of A Hundred Little Flames was released.

What can you think when you read a title “Love A Little Stronger”? Well, I didn't thought anything honestly, I just got attracted to the bright and colorful cover page. Yes, I am reviewing this book very late but somehow this book got ignored in the huge stack of unread books although I already pre-ordered before the release. This book is the past version of the book 34 Bubblegums and Candies, with some modification by adding new stories and reworking on the old ones. There are 50 Chapters in the book mainly related to the author’s daily life. There are short stories and incidents about the author’s life-giving us hope, make us think, with sufficient amount of smile and laughter. I would say it's kind of semi-autobiography of Preeti Shenoy. Where she also included the tips for writing blogs and articles regularly. There are so many chapters that really touched my emotions like “My Special Friend”, “The gift of laughter”, “Love A Little Stronger” and I felt a jolt while reading the ending of few chapters but there were also some chapters who brought a pleasant smile on my face, made me think about the author’s life and then comparing it with mine. Whatever the case is, the most important thing that I learned from this book is valuing your surrounding, your people and accept them no matter what their nature is and from where they belong. It really doesn't matter to you if you truly love that person.

This book is mainly for the naive readers, for the parents, teachers and most importantly for the Mothers. This will give them a sense of realization that sometimes you have to let it go, your children are going to be Adult someday and they will go to some other place for education and studies. But this is Okay, Faith is must in Parents and Children relationship.

Preeti Shenoy has expressed his daily life in such a simple way that this book is unputdownable. I completed this book in just a few hours feeling more contentful with what I read in my those reading hours. I would say most of the characters were credible and relatable to our daily life.

In my opinion, this book will give you a change from the usual writing style as the book is written in a different way, were author told about her daily routines and the true incidents from the past. After reading this book I felt like I met Preeti Shenoy in person and she told me everything about her life. Genuinely there is no favorite part of this book, but it's best to consider this as a treasure, you can feel like to re-read this book and savor it every time when you feel low.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, it's not a slow or long read, you can finish this book in just one day. I will give 3.5 out of 5 Stars for overall story and writing of the book.

Some books are there which you hold close to your heart and never want to lose them. This is one of those books for me.Its gem of a book.

I have fallen in love with the beautiful concept of 'Live, love and laugh'.The author has shared numerous snippets from her life in the fifty chapters. With each chapter I got more involved with the book. The sibling rivalry, cat fights,STD calls, pets and lots more made me visit my childhood days. Some incidents tickled my nerves and I ended up with laughing riot which was hard to contain. With each chapter you become a little wiser.
The author is a wordsmith. With her lucid and engaging writing and amazing tempo one can easily finish the book in a short time. A reader can easily relate to the small incidents of life which enrich our life in amazing ways and their memories which we cherish for a lifetime. The adversaries and happy moments of our life make us what we are but more important is how we handle them.
In the last part of the book, the writer has penned few points which can bring a huge change in our life. The notion of Radiators and Drains, DIY, fifty one things and counting and feeling needed are close to my heart.A little effort each day can bring a huge change in one's life.In my mind I make a note to follow them. Showing a sweet gesture to loved one, appreciating a colleagues work, avoiding white lies and laughing loud when in problem helps to ease out of a difficult situation, maintaining strong bonds and ultimately makes your life lot more easier.

The author has given us a small insight into writer's world starting with the writing process till the final copy is published undergoing through multiple pipelines of revisions and proofreading.
It is a delightful read just like a old pickle which gets better with age.I would suggest the book to everyone who want savour the amazing cake without getting high on calories as this piece gets you high on wisdom.

I want to thank the publisher for the review copy in exchange of honest review and the author for the amazing read and splendid job she did.

If you have been following my reviews, you would have noticed by now that I don't personalise my reviews. But Love a Little Stronger is way too personal becuase almost every chapter in the book was relatable and I was continuously giggling while reating which made my daughter ask me why I am laughing so much. She even wanted me to tell one of the stories in the book as a bedtime story.

The book is divided into different parts- Parental Trap, Life Love and Laughter, Hey Brother, Love a Little Stronger, and Be the Best You Can Be. Each part has a theme that the title is representative of. Each chapter is an anecdote from her life.

She has started off with the tale of her special friend who was way too elder to her and was married but remained her friend forever. The climax of the chapter would melt any heart. John Cena Vs Daddy too hilarious that I have been giggling and chuckling like a teenager. From there we take off for a quirky, pesky, risky ride of emotions. We laugh with them, cry with them but more of the laughter sessions remain. It has been the first time I have been laughing while reading a book.

While narrating the incidents with her daughter there have been sequences where author seemingly spread an idea of concurring with everything they demand, which was apparently a put off than a cute experience. But this is a very personal and judgemental observation of a mother who believs that kids should take no from their parents.

The book emanates the much needed positive vibes when you are feeling blue and are looking for some inspiration to move on. It is a type of book that deserves a place on your bedside so that you can glance at some of your favourite quotes whenever you feel the need to. The book is divided into 5 sections, gradually moving from light-hearted laughter to grim realities. The arrangement of events shows how a person grows up to be who he/she is now, and how the path is not always a smooth one. All through the book, the author has put some amazing quotes from famous personalities, which will energize you with positive energy the moment you read them. I started reading the book casually, with no idea what I was diving into. As I proceeded I started loving it more as I lost myself into the author's beautiful narrative. This is the reason I love Preeti Shenoy's books. You do not need to be a scholar in English to understand her language. Her simple wordplay immediately makes the reader want to read more and anyone can read it- be a beginner or someone who reads 2-3 books a week. I would recommend that you take your own sweet time and cherish the book slowly, rather than devouring it in one go. It is a kind of book that I will go back to time and again, whenever I need some inspiration. I really wish that I get to meet the author someday. Ever since I got a taste of her books about 2-3 years ago, she has become one of my favourite authors and I always look forward to starting my January reads with one of her books, as they inspire me. So what are you waiting for? Grab a copy and... Happy reading :)

Aptly mentioned of the cover of the book as a one-line review, Love A Little Stronger is positive and full of life. At first, it appeared to be a quick read to me. I was enjoying the incidences; some more than the other and it was a nice experience. However, the more pages I turned, the closer I felt to the author as a person, not just as a writer.
In the last few chapters of Love A Little Stronger, Preeti Shenoy has hit bull’s eye. Despite being more of a personal journal of the author, she manages to include some had hitting motivational context. I, for one, absolutely loved her list of things and even chuckled acknowledging how I am doing one of the things she clearly asks us to steer away from. In my humble opinion, it is these chapters that conclude the book into a lovely collection.

Preeti Shenoy has been one of my favorite Indian authors. I have read every single book of hers and love the way she pens down her books. 📖📖📖📖
A collection of 50 interesting stories, 'Love a Little Stronger' is an extension of Shenoy's previous book '34 Bubblegums and Candies'.
Often in our daily mundane life, we forget to appreciate the small moments, capture small memories and overlook some priceless moments.
The author has shared many such moments of her life: her parenting struggles, her struggles of becoming an author, stories from her teenage and her married life, her children and few hilarious instances.
Absolutely enjoyed this short and easy breezy read🍁🍁

This is a reminiscence of Preeti Shenoy from her beautiful memories of life events. I must say some of the events she descirbed are really heart touching especially when she narrated her experiences with two children. Some of them will be relatable but others may not. So this is essentially a quick casual read to know about her personal life of a writer.

Review at A Bookworm's Musing

I have read 34 Bubblegums and Candies before, so quite a bit of this book felt familiar. This has some more tales, though I am not entirely sure which are new, which aren't. Comparing versions, I feel this is stronger title and cover-wise, but in other respects, it still feels at the same level as the earlier book. I quite enjoyed the read, and could find similarities to some of my memories too, so those instances brought a smile. For those who have read the earlier book, I think this book can be given a miss, but even if you do read it, I think it is quite worth doing so.

‘Love A Little Stronger’ is a beautiful and heart warming book which includes 50 short stories of the author, Preeti Shenoy, penned down and shared with us.

The language used is very simple and easy to grasp and imagine the situations. The very first story, My special friend’ made me want to read this book more. There are life lessons in the stories which have been said by Preeti Shenoy. As I progressed with the book, I felt more personal with the author. Every tale was relateable in some or the other way.

Few of the stories touched my heart. Few of them made me laugh. Few of them made me emotional. And few of them made me want to skip that particular story. The book is full of mixtires. I found 5-6 stories which made no sense to me at all, but may be it would made sense to some other person, afterall all of these stories are the author’s personal stories and incidents.

The book is free from any grammatical errors and has a good catch on vocabulary. There are 5 main sub parts –

1. The Parent Trap

2. Life, Love and Laughter

3. Hey Brother!

4. Love a Little Stronger

5. Be the Best You Can Be

Out of these, Love a Little Stronger is my favourite. Especially ‘Siblings without rivalry’ touched my heart! It show cased a realation of brother and sister so beautifully that a tear almost escaped my eye!

Love for family, mother’s and siblings love, the moments which will make you laugh in splits, the moments which brings tears to the eyes, friendship and life lessons is the main focus of all the stories in the book.

Afterall, it’s all about the little things in life.

Despite having a personal disagreement at most of the things in the book, I would recommend it to anyone who is seeking solace from the vagaries of life and wants a nudge of motivation to set his/her life on track. The anecdotes indited in the books are both fervently emotional as well as excitingly cheerful. My disagreement is not because there is something unimpressive and inappreciable in the book but due to my own philosophy according to which I find motivation as only a fancifully manufactured stuff which has nothing to do with absolute reality. There is nothing exceptional in the book except that you may temporarily feel to soothe the storm in your life. Nevertheless, this book may turn out to be your panacea for so many problems if you believe in the power of motivation. Hence I recommend it for everyone who seeks inspiration to love a little stronger in their life.

MY THOUGHTS::

As for beginners it's a pretty good book to read with simple and understanding phrases and this book make me think about the small and quality time I spent with my family and as a child how naughty I was and how annoying I was to my mom and crazy childhood with my dad and precious teachings of them what to do, how to do, when it's difficult don't get sad, life is never going to be memorable when u don't have fun and enjoy the little little things as a child. That sibling rivalry is also a part Of loving your siblings We may not show the love between us only being sweet sometimes the little quarrel and fights may our bond stronger and stronger....

I am not usually a fan of the non-fiction genre. However, I had read Preeti Shenoy's A Hundred Little Flames and I had liked her style of writing. Love a Little Stronger had received rave reviews and I was curious to see how I would like it. When I read the introduction to the book, I was afraid that it will be another Chicken Soup for the Soul. But I was pleasantly surprised. The author has taken various incidents that have happened in her life over the years and compiled them into little stories that are humorous and motivating at the same time.

The book is divided into five parts, each dealing with different issues. Here are some worthy mentions-

1. A-ha Moment- The author says "Who says you have to be a socialite or a Miss Delhi to experience the a-ha moment? We can create our very own a-ha moments". This holds true for all of us. We wait for the perfect opportunity and the perfect time to start what we want to start, always procrastinating because it feels like the time is just not right. But there is no right time. We have to go ahead and make the time right for us.
2. The Good Days and the Bad Days- Here the author describes perfectly how all things seem to go well on a good day and how on a bad day we find that even everyday things turn into nightmares. However, the difference between a bad day and a worse day is that we can make things go well with a little effort on the bad day but not on the worse day. When we know that everyone has their share of such days, we don't feel victimized by the Universe and find the will-power to continue on to the next day, be it good, bad or worse.
3. The Magic of Faith- This was my favourite story in the entire book. The innocence of children and their absolute trust in their parents was heart warming. A six year old believing that her mother has the power to tell the sun to not shine too bright is the sweetest thing. What is more important is the fact that she felt that the sun did not shine too bright because her mother bid it not to. This shows how faith can move mountains. This power of faith is used by faith healers and manipulators to get their way but it can also be used by each one of us to make our loved ones have a better day.
4. Siblings Without Rivalry- This story reminded me of how my cousins and I would frolic all summer at the village that our parents grew up in. It was an exotic place, an adventure to us city dwellers. It is only now that I realise just how much of it we took for granted. The tree climbing, mud hut making, animal chasing adventures are impossible to duplicate now.
5. The Little Black Dot- Here, the common example of a black dot on a white background is used to convey the message that we ought not concentrate on what is wrong but only try to look at what is right. We should concentrate on the larger scheme of things and not obsess over the minuscule details. This positive attitude will ensure that we keep our chin up and go through life with a zeal that will be hard for the Universe to squash.
6. White Lies- Here I felt like the author turned very preachy. The book certainly got the Chicken Soup-y vibes that I was desperately trying to avoid. I felt that it was a bit presumptuous of the author to suggest that things like not answering the phone or the door while she was working or just explaining things so that her partner saw things her way would work for other people too. There are plenty of people who live with an abusive or a dominant partner where just explaining things would be counter productive. I felt that the book would have benefited without these last couple of chapters
7. Family or Career- "Only if we are happy can we make our loved ones happy". This is something that I am sure all of us have experienced. One cannot give others happiness while being miserable on the inside. Like Master Shifu says "Inner Peace" is what is important for everyone.

There is something pleasant about this book that grabs your attention straightaway, nudging you to turn the pages with a glass of cold water, and cupcakes by the side. Do you know what that ‘something’ is? The title, of course! ‘Love A Little Stronger’ – so aptly said. In a world that is currently in doldrums owing to commotion and disturbances from all quarters, people tend to stick towards negativity, not realizing that there are positive aspects in our lives too. What we all need is our share of love, as well as sharing of love, the best place to start being, of course, our homes.

We live in a busy world filled with goals and ambitions. We have, unknowingly, become part of a rat race driven by technology. When was the last time we had a hearty dinner with our family, close relatives and friends without the interruptions of television and mobile phones? We have surely had memories of those days, but they have receded somewhere in the far corners of our minds. Preeti Shenoy digs in deep through those memories and brings them down to our heart. She narrates her own life incidents, and we, the readers, seek our own slices of déjà vu embossed in them.

The book is divided into five sections. ‘The Parent Trap’ illustrates the close bonding between Preeti and her parents, as well her own tale of parenthood. Being a proud mother of two lovely kids, Preeti narrates the ordeal that goes on in her house, daily. ‘Life, Love And Laughter’ comprises anecdotes that are funny, humorous and at times plain embarrassing. There are moments of her life that might have looked awkward when they had happened, but now invite laughter.

We have all fought with our siblings when young, but again, the love and bonding that is shared between siblings is unparalleled. ‘Hey Brother!’ narrates incidents involving Preeti’s son and daughter. The innocence of children, and how well the siblings protect each other during times of need, makes a happy reading.

Love in all form should be welcomed, ‘cause it’s a blessing and a precious gift to have. Love can come from any direction; we only need to embrace it with arms wide open. The fourth section of the book, ‘Love A Little Stronger’ speaks about love and acts of kindness, and how they stand against all odds. In the concluding section of the book – ‘Be The Best You Can Be’, Preeti Shenoy shares tips on life and parenting, and also advices for aspiring writers.

‘Love A Little Stronger’ is a light read, and can be completed in a few hours. However, the message that it imparts is deep. It makes us think about our childhood, adolescence, and the stages thereafter. It creates a sense of nostalgia in us, so much that we would instantly have the urge to call our loved ones and speak our hearts out with them.

This book comprises of real-life incidents not only of Preeti Shenoy, but of all of us. We find ourselves in the pages, and we are drawn towards it. What works best is the lucidity of the language, and the way emotions have been dealt with. Preeti Shenoy is a master story teller, her words coming to life with every paragraph. ‘Love A Little Stronger’ is a must – read book. After all, love is what creates the bonds between us humans, making us live in stories, scripted out of reality.

I liked the author’s book A Hundred Little Flames and decided on this book hoping that it would be good. So how does it turn out to be?

Love a Little Stronger is a set of jottings about the author’s family across generations knit together by love. The author narrates small instances from her own life and how she learnt wonderful snippets in each of them.

Written in the style of daily journal entries, the book is divided into five parts. There are no clear demarcations about the content of these parts. The first part is about parenting, the second, about personal experiences, the third about the relationship between her children, the fourth about how each member of her family support each other in the wake of adversities and the fifth summaries for life.

The stories are written in no chronological order and revolve around her father’s death. The initial
stories are funny and would be appreciated better if you are a parent. The stories give a good insight into the author’s personal life and would be interesting for a reader who has read her other books and is interested in her writings. The chapters of the last part are mostly summaries, listing out different lessons and qualities. As in her earlier book, she emphasizes on the necessity of maintaining a daily journal.

I particularly liked the author’s take on children,

“The toys they play with might have changed but the qualities inherent in children – a curious nature, a playful attitude and most importantly being unafraid to try out new things, unafraid to fail and the ability to quickly forgive and not carry grudges – still remain the same.”

And her musing

“It made me wonder why we adults do not have the enthusiasm that children do, to try out new things.”

I will recommend that the introduction and the epilogue of the book should be read along with the main part of the book, because they themselves are a delight to read and will highly recommend the book to aspiring writers for its style.

Overall, the book is worth chewing and digesting.

3.3 stars. This book is light and humorous read. I have laughed in many chapters. Some filled me with positivity and happiness. Really beginners friendly. These are short stories and nicely written.

Now I will talk about the concept which I do not agree with the author and which seems hypocrite to me. Such as Radiators and Drains chapter.

If someone is going to be only a radiator and leave those who are going through some difficult time or become little hard or negative because of so and so reason then one day others will do the same to him/her because then they will be a drain to them, in their eyes. And everyone faces happy and sad and negative moments in their life. Not all fingers of a hands are equal. You can't just leave them for it.

This book itself says one line. The world will be a reflection of you. Sadly people contribute in happiness but become indifferent enough when the other one is going through an adversity.

I mean what is it "don't interact with drains but when you are feeling sad find a radiator". Hypocrite and selfish theory, in my opinion. Even when the person is talking to you politely or "pleasently" you are calling them drains. This seems unfair. I don't think the problem is with them then.

One can do one simple thing, if one isn't able to help such people; find a person who can, if possible. But even after a while the situation is not changing he/she can understand the person/situation and give it a pause to protect their energy.

Suppose, If someone is going through depression or any other mental health issue will you leave them because they are giving you negative vibes? A good friend is someone who can contribute in happiness and sadness equally.

Lastly, Emotions are normal as we are human beings and not denying them is even more precious thing to do in this era of toxic 24/7 positivity. Find a balance though.

This book is a new version of 34 Bubblegums and Candies, and those who have not read that book before will certainly cherish the little collection of real life incidences of author's life. If you say for the art of narration, she has mastered it all. Preeti knows how to convert a little conversations/ incidences into small yet quirky stories.

Though this book being a really quick read, was filled with funny yet inspiring and short stories to make you ponder and think over.

The book is divided into five parts:

1. The Parent trap

2. Life, Love and Laughter

3. Hey Brother

4. Love a little stronger

5. Be the best you can be

It started off with the chapter closed to author's heart- Death of her Dad and continued with memories with her children going down the memory lane. Her parenting skills learnt with the experience was very much evident in the her maximum stories.

Though not a parent myself, I quite enjoyed the third part- Hey Brother in which author has narrated incidences of her son and daughter. Siblings fights and the sacred bond shared between them is unparalleled and these chapters took to my own innocent childhood days.

The author through the book has tried to impart the message of kindness, laughter, relationships, emotions, motivation and warmth of love.

This book will definitely strike a cord with everyone, after all its the love that as humans we are looking for.

My ratings:

Writing: 4/5

Entertainment: 3.5/5

This is an improvised version of Preeti's older publication "34 Bubblegums and Candies"; since I haven't read the prior version of this book, this is like a new book for me, but if you have already read the older version, I guess this can be skipped unless the previous one was a dear favorite.

This is a collection of short stories but not fictional; there are either directly lifted from Preeti's life or inspired by events that happened in her life, mostly falling in the former category. Each story spans 2-3 pages, with few extending to 5 pages and each story describes a short event from her life. The timeline of the stories also spans across the author's life but mostly revolving around her two kids.

The book is a quick, refreshing read and most stories are witty and are sure to bring a smile on the reader's face. The author takes simple, everyday events that are sometimes overlooked and spins a fun tale around them. This is more like coffee table book that can be read again and again for reminiscing the moments that are cherished and captured in these stories.

As the author points during one story, all these are picked and compiled from the author's blog, posts which are written over the years. The writing is simple but lucid; this is definitely one of those books for a quick flight or for a lazy rainy afternoon.
