John Allan Hobson is an American psychiatrist and dream researcher. He is known for his research on rapid eye movement sleep. He is Professor of Psychiatry, Emeritus, Harvard Medical School, and Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
It's a really good and accessible introduction to studying sleep from biological, behavioural and clinical perspectives by one of the greats. It's pretty enjoyable to read, but also covers a lot of ground thoroughly. The only drawback is that it's slightly dated, and that shows from time to time. Still though if you want a good quality intro and a quick and enjoyable read, it's definitely worth it in 2017.
