Eriko “Ellie” Ichimura finally confesses her feelings to Akira Ohmi, and their feelings are reciprocated at last. A romantic Christmas awaits… or, it did, but Ellie fails one of her finals, forcing her to attend remedial classes. Their holiday plans in jeopardy, Ellie sinks into despair, but with Shiota-sensei’s encouragement, she charges into Omi-kun on Christmas day… in costume! Presenting Volume 5 of a plain pervert’s curious romance!
Okay I'm starting to realise how much I hate love triangles but at least in this one, Ellie and Omi only have eyes for each other so we're good I guess :') NO ONE MESSES WITH MY SHIP UGH NOT EVEN YOU KANAME (although I do hope Kaname genuinely only wants to be friends with Ellie; he seems more helpless in making friends than Ellie)
And can we appreciate Omi for never taking advantage of Ellie even though Ellie basically expected more pervert things going on lol this boy is really too precious ♡♡♡
Ellie: but what about the naughty stuff. Yes about the naughty stuff??? :(((( To say the least Sakura's appearance has been very annoying. Why do every shoujo manga have a jealous family member with a complex. Kaname has finally appeared!!!!!! He's also a weirdo like Ellie and Sara. I wonder if they'll make him into one of Ellie's love interests hmmmmmm. Probably. But Ellie's loyal af so I'm not worried, at least we'll get to see more jealous Ohmi! ♥
In the author's acknowledgments, she (?) mentions that this title is published in Dessert magazine. That makes sense, since this is more smoky than I'd expect from a shoujo manga! Not a lot has happened physically, but the perv level is rather high.
Ohmi's younger cousin has a pubescent crush on him, and sees Ellie as a kind of rival. We haven't seen her since she threw down the gauntlet in a sequence where the two girls were semi-coincidentally in the same place at the same time. I don't see Sakura as a serious contender, and neither does Ohmi, so there isn't a lot to worry about there, I hope.
I like Kaname, who's become more of a focal character. He's oblivious to social cues, and is off in his own world at times, which makes me think he's on the spectrum somewhere. But he wants to face the world more actively, and thinks approaching Ellie as a friend is a good idea. But she's a mess, too! I don't see this heading in a jealous lover direction--Ohmi has been low-key and trustful, and I don't anticipate that changing--and sincerely hope that Kaname makes some progress "in this life" without too much heartbreak.
Volume 5 picks up right where volume 4 left off, with Ellie going over to Ohmi's house.
So this was probably my least favourite volume so far because it featured one of my least favourite shoujo manga scenarios. I won't ever be a fan of a childhood friend/step-sibling/cousin being introduced into the mix for what seems like the sole purpose of causing tension between the main couple. I already feel enough for Ellie and her insecurities to want some girl causing trouble for her. Sakura was a pretty annoying character, but overall I am pretty pleased with the way the drama was handed and the resolution it came to. I'm also super thankful this story arc only lasted one volume. It was also really nice seeing Ellie stick to her resolve and standing up for herself.
I relate to Ellie’s weirdness so much!!! Weirdos unite!!!! Lol
But really??? The cousin likes Ohmi? And he rejects her, not because she’s his COUSIN but because Ellie is the one??? Her being HIS COUSIN should’ve been his number one reason. I hate that shojo always has to have a cousin or sister with a complex. Blehhhh!
Anyway, Ellie and Ohmi are so cute together. I can’t wait to see more cuteness.
And Kaname? Why do I feel like he’s on the spectrum? It makes sense. Well, labels or not, I like his character. I’m glad that he’s inspired by Ellie and not going to use her after everything that happened in this volume.
More of a 3.5 star rating; I’LL BE YOUR FRIEND KANAME-KUN! Okay now for the serious review… I like that we got to see a bit more of Ellie socializing with other classmates outside of her being a doormat. I found Omi-kun’s cousin a bit annoying due to her infatuation with Omi-kun but I also think that she could be a very good yet stern friend for Ellie, if the opportunity arises. I’m very curious to see how this next volume grows since I found the cliffhanger to be very cute, and relatable.

I groaned when Sakura showed up. It's a tired trope that I've never enjoyed, not even once. While Kaname is still off-putting, I find him more sympathetic after this volume. I don't think this is new but I've just picked up on how Fujimomo gives Eriko wobbly speech bubbles, which is such a great way of conveying how she talks.
This was definitely a bittersweet volume. I'm going to start with what I DIDN'T like first before talking about the good points.
Like almost every shoujo manga ever, this volume started off with my hatest shoujo trope wherein a family member also has romatic feelings to their family member. In this case, it was Omi's cousin who has a huge crush on Omi. Like all the shoujo mangas that show scenes like that, it made me feel sick and disgusted. And honestly? I was ready to give this a low rating. Honestly, if it wasn't for this, I might have given this a higher rating ngl.
Now, allow me to talk about what I liked about this volume: (SUPER SPECIFIC SPOILERS SO PLEASE DON'T READ UNLESS YOU WANNA GET SPOILED)
1.) I love how they finished this arc quickly. This whole arc only lasted for like 2 chapters and I'm super glad it was done that way.
2.) In a way, although not much, I was glad to see Ellie get some confidence about herself. In the past she always had self-confidence issues so it was nice when she finally had the courage to confront the cousin and tell her her true feelings towards Omi.
3.) I also thought it was cute when Omi and Ellie confessed their loves for one another! I think moving forward it's going to be interesting to see how their relationship will move forward now that they declared themselves as bf/gf. I think it's going to make a lot of possible interesting scenarios and I am looking forward to how the author will move forward from here.
4.) For the past volumes we really don't know anything about Kaname and he sorts of look just like some sort of fodder. Well, I think he's going to be an interesting character and will be one of the first people to test how much Ellie and Omi's resolve is to one another. This is a hunch but with the way Ellie loves Omi so much, I think Kaname is probably going to get hurt. However, I do hope/think that there is a lot of room to see Kaname evolve/develop so I hope in the future volume/s we see more of Kaname improving himself further.
Anyway, the next volume will most likely focus on Valentine's Day and with Kaname, I think it's going to be a volume worth looking into. :)

OMG! This volume was so fun and I had the best time reading it! I loved Ellie-chan's dad's reaction to catching her and Omi-kun kissing it was the best! I was screaming. I loved watching them interact and navigate their relationship while meeting each other's parents. And that ending!!! When Omi-kun practically freaking proposed!!!! I was just like Ellie-chan at that moment.
The reasons it took me so long to finish this book is because of the annoying love triangle. Specially the girl, I don’t care that she's Oumi's cousin because it's legal in lot's of countries (Americans need to stop thinking that every country is the same as theirs and accept things they find weird are thought of differenly in other countries, it's very annoying) and because I know many people from my parents' home country (Pakistan), mostly relatives, who are married to 1st cousins and so are my parents, and guess what!? All of their kids were born without any health issues. To me, it's gross if a character likes their sibling🤢 which is why I still haven't read vol. 3 of Ima Koi yet, also the sister is so annoying and the sister complex/brother complex is something I hate so much. Anyways, I hated Oumi's cousin fight away, not because she's the love rival, but because of her attitude, I could just tell that she would be a spoiled brat, and not an endearing one. Thankfully, this only lasts for around two chapters, so it's not a big deal and I wish I knew, then I wouldn't have taken so long to finish this book. I'm so glad it didn't last for many chapters like in other series, it was resolved quickly and Eriko and Oumi grow too.
When it comes to Kaname, I like him. I hope he doesn't turn into a love rival because I think him and Eriko being friends would be so good for both of them and a cute friendship. I also hope that Eriko accepts him as a friend. poor guy just wants some friends and wants to be understood, he just doesn't understand what's acceptable to say and do😭
Oumi and Eriko are so awkward, it's adorable, although I do sometimes feel secondhand embarrassment from Eriko.
Overall, surprisingly (considering how I felt about Sakura, I think that's her name) this might be my favourite volume from this series so far.
More like a 4.5 stars. I didn't care for the Sakura arc there, but the rest was fun. This Kaname guy won me over in his last panel lol He's drawn so cutely. It's a laidback, high-school setting type of love story, but I like how there's been advancements with every volume and this was no exception.
Ellie and Omi are a super cute, dynamic couple. With shoujo manga, sometimes I don't see what's the big deal about this princely love interest and/or I find the main girl to be kinda perfect and bland. But Ellie has a personality and is so whacky and sometimes Omi is so stinking adorable and I end up like adfkgjoskdsfjakdsf. I like the characters in this series a lot. And also, this might sound kinda weird but I find it so interesting how the series doesn't shy away from Ellie's sexual feelings towards Omi. She's growing up and feels these things and she goes out and says it to the internet and straight to Omi's face and it's hilarious and honest. I love her.
freaking hilarious...if only this volume didn't have sakura, ohmi's cousin who is in love with him. for real, every shojo has the weird female family member who is in love or extra possessive/jealous of the guy...in this one, she even confesses to ohmi, who doesn't say 'no we're cousins hello', he says 'no ellie's the only one I'll have my eyes on' which like okay but also that's something you'd say to someone who you would maybe consider otherwise....lol.
ellie and ohmi are finally officially together (that confession!! squeee!!) with some silly scenes like the school nurse's office (his hand placement lmfao) and the new year shrine (unprotected hand holding rofl rofl). was not expecting kaname to find out ellie is the twitter poster, but I'm hoping they become actual friends!!

Ohmi and Ellie continue to be the absolute cutest couple! I will admit I was slightly put off my Ohmi's weirdly possessive 12-13 year old cousin, Sakura. She was pretty mean and bitchy to Ellie for no reason, except jealousy of course. I don't mind love rivals, they're the spice of life and all, but wow was she immediately irritating. Thankfully she became more bearable by the end, and even did something kind of nice. On the other hand we have Kaname, who is very socially unaware (I think he might be on the spectrum), who now knows about Ellie's secret and cutely asked to be her friend! I think he has feelings for her, and I definitely don't ship them, but I do want him to have some friends and feel accepted.
A lot of developments this volume, can't wait to see what vol 6 has in store.
Not sure if it was on purpose or not, but this volume seemed more mature than those previously. If it was on purpose that was kind of a brillant strategy by the author LOL meaning he aslo wrote the previous volumes as they were on purpose to offset this change. Be interesting to see how this progresses, or if it doesn't. There is still plenty of goofiness with this new found maturity though, so don't get me wrong and think it got super serious or anything.
3.5 stars. I didn't like the forced love rival plot with Omi's cousin as it was very predictable and as soon as the character first appeared I could see exactly what was going to happen. It didn't add anything to the plot or develop the characters so it felt really unnecessary. Thankfully it wasn't dragged out for too long. The rest of the volume was much better though.
Ah, they finally made things official, which is very important, I'm glad it was resolved out of school, although I am always tired of the cousin trope. *eye roll* A potential love triangle is forming against Ellie and Ohmi, but I'd rather that than a bullying one, and hope Kaname eventually becomes a good friend.
This volume has all the classic shoujo tropes - a festival, a jealous family member trying to thwart love, an angsty third-party boy who is won over by the innocent charms of the female protagonist, and an awkwardly communicated love confession.
Are Sakura and Kaname making this a love quadrangle? Does it work that way if Ellie and Ohmi only have eyes for each other?
Sakura was an intresting choice for a love rival, however it worked for Eriko's personality. She was hilarious and brilliant, she brought the couple even closer together. The foot accident was the right amount of drama and the ending scene was brilliant. It was so worth the read, and was a stunning read.

I am happy that the super tropey drama part got over real quick... But I don't want there to be a love triangle though.. Which seems like it's gonna happen. I hope the 2nd ML gets a good ending as well.
The only thing I disliked about this was the Ohmi's cousin having romantic feelings for him. It's weird, especially considering they grew up like siblings.
I really like Kaname though and I am excited to see more of him and Ellie as friends
Super cute and full of Ellie's slap-stick kind of outbursts. I am a tad bit worried that there may be an incest romance with a cousin, so hopefully no! Also, I like this new male character, I hope Ellie does choose to be his friend.
This series is so incredibly adorable! I was not a fan of the whole cousin part of this volume, but that was resolved quickly so I don't mind it too much. I'm really excited about Kaname's character and how he is going to be developed (✎ (❁ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈) ༉‧ I love how he's drawn!! ♡*.✧)
Um, so I know it’s part of the Japanese culture to maintain tradition, marrying their first cousins to keep finances or something but it’s still weird having a cousin like another cousin. 😐
Not particularly enthused by the romantic rivals being introduced—one is his cousin and the other is an autistic-coded character complete with the “I feel like a broken puzzle” analogy, for chrissakes.
