This book was well researched but I'm still looking for more concrete things to do to learn better. For spaced practice, how many days in between sessions? The last half of the book is information I've read other places. Additionally, the book is clearly written by a non naive English speaker and self published. I'd like to see better editing, imho.
This book is well-written for everyone to understand the deep concepts involved. The authors portrays the content in a humanistic manner.
Strategies have been well-explained as well their actual scientific backing of how effective they are. To learn any skill this book should be considered.
- Writing feels unnatural and clunky. - Author likes to go on about himself and market his other products. - Feels like content is pieced together from Google and Wikipedia - Content is all very basic. Ie, the secret to become an expert is...to practice properly. Wow...
I love Som’s books. They’re always backed with research, which make them easy to read.
This book shares multiple learning techniques which have potential to improve memory and focus. I liked the strategies to master any skill and will try to implement them soon. Overall well researched and interesting information.
I rated it a four because I found it a little hard to read. However, the author included some valuable information. I certainly plan on using and exploring the methodologies discussed in this book.
The content is okay, not much new information or knowledge. It promises "I will teach you how to xxx later in the book" and later I still find nothing really useful. Chapter 8 is the central argument of this book and from there it refers to another book "Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise" by K Anders Ericsson. And maybe you will then head to "Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones" by James Clear. So I think it is better to either read the above books mentioned or to read Peter Collins's Learning by How to learn series. I would skip this topic.
The writing was a bit stilted, and the topic depth was fairly shallow but the author clearly did his research. No Earth-shaking new techniques, but a brief recap of what we've been using and it's effectiveness. I liked that the author didn't seem to be biased toward any particular method.
The book had some good techniques, but some of the formatting, examples, and grammar was a little off that caused the book to be distracting in some ways to me.
