When Stephen Um used scripture to interpret scripture from Micah, he made a few valid points. There was an underlying political agenda, and often times he used scripture to support ideas, completely missing the context, history, and meaning of the verses used. He ranks social injustice as most important, but Micah highlights our need for reconciliation with God more than reconciliation with each other.

I recommend reading this if you want to practice filtering proposed truth through scripture. I would not recommend this for biblical study.

This book gives some nice insights into Micah. It’s not as good as the others I have read in this series. I found the author often eisegetes Scripture. While there is nothing inherently wrong in any of his points, the text doesn’t naturally lead to his conclusions. He seems to be forcing messages into the text, which is especially prevalent in chapter two and seven of the book.

Another stunning 'For You' book. We're so often focused on Micah 6:8, but there is SO MUCH MORE in the book of Micah. A book for our time. Really worth reading - have your Bible open at the same time.

What do you really know about the book of Micah? “ what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. “ There is of course much more to the book but that really does sum it up. God will bring judgement but he will also bring restoration. I liked the authors approach to this and feel that I learned something from it. Recommended.

Great book

It is wonderful when you find a message in God's word that fits in pointing towards Christ as well as our modern condition. If it is also a lesson you might have missed in Sunday school, then it may also be the missing piece of the puzzle for you!

To be honest, I have always struggled with the prophets. Those books of the Bible always seemed exceedingly weird -- a woman in a pot, an angel with a plumb line. You know what I mean. In this study of Micah, Stephen Um unpacks the vision of justice in Micah. And this is just what I needed in this cultural moment. Um reveals this Lord of justice and mercy through the book of Micah who is righteously angry with the oppression of the poor and the vulnerable. In addition, Um calls us to deeply reflect on how we often gravitate towards the love of God and overlook His call to walk out His love to others by pursuing justice in the world. Um's study is well written and well paced so that it's easy to read a section during your daily Bible study time. Highly recommended.

I bought this book because I didn't know a lot about Micah. While it didn't teach me much about the man personally, his family or where he was living, it did teach me about his message - that he was Spirit-led, and through the Holy Spirit, preaches about a God who hates injustice but doesn't remain angry. I loved the author's explanation (in the last chapter) of why God must get angry at evil. As the author says, it's not surprising that He should judge; it is surprising that He finds a way to forgive.

A decent introduction to Micah and a fair companion to commentaries if you’re looking for practical questions and illustrations.

I found the book a bit frustrating at times. There are some troubling typos. Page 6 repeatedly references Micah 6:6, but means to reference Micah 6:8, calling it the heart of Micah. How did that get missed?? The author borrows heavily from other books, especially Tim Keller. I counted 17 references to Keller and started wondering why I didn’t just pick a Tim Keller book to read instead.

I have a cold. I’m probably grumpy.

Excellent call to see injustice through God's eyes! And to extend kindness and mercy to those who need it!
I would have liked, however, more commentary on the actual text, as the author liked to jump straight to application or new testament connections at times. Minor issue though.

Excellent commentary on Micah. I really appreciated the context laid out in this book. it helped me gain a deeper understanding of this prophet.
