I was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1976 and still live there under the caring eyes of my wife and two Norwegian Forest cats. Originally a publishing salesman, I couldn't resist the lure of writing, and after over a dozen years of playing the gamemaster in pen-and-paper groups, not to mention reading hundreds of fantasy novels, I decided to finally try to write a story myself that I thought might be worth telling. And so my novel Ahren was published in Germany, the first in the best-selling series The 13th Paladin.
When I am not creating new worlds and stories, I like to relax by playing pen-and-paper and story rich video games, reading or binging on TV series. I also practise Jiu Jitsu and the art of handling ancient Japanese weapons like the Katana or the Bo Staff.
Epic fantasy with a wonderful plot and extremely well crafted characters (that you will come to know more deeply than any other series’ characters I have ever experienced with the possible exception of The Malazan Book of the Fallen) Also, a fun habit of interjecting references to other epics so subtly that you need to pay attention to catch them. By far one of my lifetimes favorite Epic series! Randy
After a few months of relaxed life in the Brazen City, the companions celebrate the autumn festival before leaving on their dangerous journey to search for the isolated Paladin Sunji in the southern jungles. They spend weeks traveling through the scorching desert plains to the Claw pass then follow the Silver Ribbon river looking for any information about Sunju. They find her sleeping deep in the think dangerous jungle.
Some very interesting, dangerous battles and situations. I love the reason why Sunju was sleeping, so heartwarming and miraculous.
Footnote: 1): Some of the narrators pronunciation threw me. Like the word ‘shone’ pronounced with an ‘a’ instead of a ‘o’ makes it sound like wearing footgear.
Fave scenes: Cullen’s warning about the poisoned food, Ahren talking to Trogadon about women, cleansing the Elven pool and Ahren putting the earth paste on Cullen.
At first I was hoping for something really astoundingly different with these books and was a bit disappointed. However I’m really enjoying them. The plot is expanding nicely but isn’t too hard to follow. I like the characters and the way they’re developing. The only things I don’t care for are exclamation points outside of dialogue and using the term, “how come” in dialogue. Other than that I’m looking forward to continuing to read the series.
Yay! New settings! New monsters! Ahren has finally figured out girls! Okay so that last one is not entirely true.... but he's getting better! I love how this series keeps everything fresh by continually switching up the settings and challenges our heroes are presented with so that things don't get stale, while still giving them progress in their goals so it doesn't feel like the changes are random or frivolous
I'm really enjoying the series. This is my 1st review. I really enjoy how each book in the series keeps to the original story line and continues to add more characters and depth to the story. Also the locations changes in each series as they travel giving you a chance to experience different world building.
So many authors try to create the ethically simple but emotionally complex and high wonder filled world of fantasy that Tolkien exemplifies but this series is the first I have ever read that hits the right notes. Very satisfying and inspirational! Can't wait for the next volume.
In many of the series I've read the story plateaus by the third or fourth book in the series but yet I am still intrigued by the author's writing. Having magic not be an overwhelming weapon that can be constantly used, different cultures appearing in the books, and a main character with many flaws they still learn from is refreshing.
Great Heroes Journey Fantasy with a minimum of violence.
The 13th paladin series delivers a hearty plate of fantasy, well stocked with Every day issues, coming of age adventures and baked with a bias towards non violent solutions. It Is this latter feature that makes the series so appealing and perhaps even a little refreshing from the usual focus on violence.
I continue to enjoy this series. The storyline is very creative and original. It draws you quickly through the entire book. A favorite aspect of the book is the characters. They are heroes with big hearts and fun senses of humor, but are growing, learning, struggling in their quest to defeat the darkness that threatens to take over their world.
This is a great series.. it is peppered with a little magic, a little adventure, a little humor, a little romance ... and a whole lot of camaraderie to over come the evil God HE WHO FORCES!!! If you are looking into this book.. stop and go back and start at book 1.. you will be reading this book soon enough! Happy reading!
Very fun and enjoyable time reading this book. Can’t wait for the next one. It seems like this is going to be a long series. I just hope it doesn’t get to predictable.
This series so far is masterfully written . The story is full of adventure and excitement . The author has wonderful characters and locales in his works . It will be hard to wait for the next book !
In general the book was good, but very little had been shown of the Sleeping Mother. Given that the entire book was devoted to finding her, world have loved to see her do something. The walking paths are introduced again and would like to see how the new villian builds up
This series is quite frankly a must-read. Yes, it's a come of age fantasy quest against a menacing dark god, but the writing and the development of the characters is brilliant. You'd be a fool not to.
Another good read! Really into this series of books. Well thought out and wonderfully written. Lots of adventures await our heroes in this book. Plenty of suspense and some heart stopping moments!! will keep on reading til end of series, will be sad when it ends.
I gave it 5 stars because it's attention to detail and the new exciting twists. Being a series some books can be dull typically. Not so far with this series. Very enjoyable.
I’ve enjoyed reading books 1-4 so far in this series. There is a lot of action and adventure with characters that I enjoy and wouldn’t mind traveling with.
This is a great book in a great series, any fantasy fan is sure to love it, the characters are rich and well developed. The only issue I have with these books is that they are a bit short for my tastes.
Weitze has a way of drawing the reader in and keeping you guessing through the twists and turns of the plot. The character development continues to surprise and the developing romance is fun to watch unfold. Well done and can’t wait to read the next one!
I am enjoying this series very much. It's very well written. The characters come to life and you find yourself loving the storyline and the adventures along the way. I highly recommend this series!
I have throughly enjoyed reading the series of the 13th Paladin. It is so refreshing compared to the many titles I have been reading lately. A true master storyteller!
Another fun entry in an immersive adventure. This world is well-built. The plot keeps moving. One complaint is the characters fail to maintain their development so they constantly return to old habits.
I love these stories, there very imaginative adventures, which grabbed my attentions the start. Each book has captivated me fully, while wondering could possibly happen next. Bring it on though?.
