Her cowboy might just be another broken-heart ballad waiting to happen…
Country superstar Sara Silver has it all: fame, fortune, and a mantel full of Grammys. She also has a string of chart-topping heartbreak songs to go with them—all based on her miserable love life. Now her manager says Sara doesn’t sing with the heart she used to. If she doesn’t come up with another hit album soon, then her label will move on to the next big thing.
Sara heads to a ranch in Wyoming to get back to her country roots and rediscover herself. To keep the press away, she hides her identity and is determined to let nothing distract her. Then she meets Cal: tall, brooding, and all cowboy. Sara falls for Cal and the quiet ranch life, but with each song she writes her time there draws to a close.
Sara will have to choose between the country stars of Nashville or the glittering stars of a Wyoming sky…unless she can find a way to have both.
Award-winning author Lisa Swinton loves romance, travel, Disney, Jane Austen, and tidying up, not necessarily in that order. When she's not writing and being a mom, you might find her singing on stage.
I'm going to offer you a warning now...don't start this book unless you're totally ok with not wanting to do anything until you have read EVERY LAST PAGE. And when I say nothing, I mean nothing! This book was soooooooo hard to set down. Let me just tell you that I worked my little tail end off to get everything done so that I could pick it up and read it! After my kiddos were in bed you better believe that I was snuggled up and reading. My hubby was on a fishing trip with one of our kiddos and my others wanted to have a movie night. I was really, really good about not reading while we were having a movie night together. So I may have read late into the night so I could figure out what was happening and just bask in the pure enjoyment I had while reading this book. Unfortunately, I was a little tired after several long days that I didn't stay up and read too late. But my daughters spoiled me the next morning and let me stay in bed reading. They actually told me to go back to bed. Lol! No, it wasn't mother's day, it was the day before. So I did! I snuggled back up in bed with this book and read, and read, and read....until my girls came and told me that breakfast was ready. (Yes, I was spoiled and had breakfast made for me two days in a row---awwww, I just love my family)!
Sara is not the same person she was when she started out on this journey of music. She has experienced heartache and loss that have changed her. She has shut out who she really is and allowed the hurt to burrow into her heart and soul. Rusty, her manager, notices and sends her packing to Wyoming for some much needed soul searching and healing. Little does she know that Rusty might have some other reasons for sending her away.
I absolutely loved Sara's story of healing. I loved watching her go from unfeeling to caring and loving, to just enjoying the world around her. This book was not exactly what I thought it was going to be. It was so much more. I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased with how the story went.
Sara has gone back to her roots of horses, ranches and cowboys. She is surrounded by many who grow to love her and who help her on her journey of healing, forgiveness, peace and love. And there might just be some sparks flying and some sweet giggles abounding too. The ranch she is sent to has such great people who live and work there. I loved getting to know them, and will say that I really hope that a couple more of them will get their own stories as well. I would love to read those stories and see familiar characters crossing over into those books.
I loved the author's way of writing and storytelling throughout this book. It was longer than I expected, but I think I've been reading many novellas lately that that is why I felt that way. I actually wanted it to be longer. I just loved these characters that I didn't want to say goodbye! I would definitely give this more stars if I could. And that ending! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED!!!
If you pick up any new books to read in the next little while can I just give my opinion by suggesting you try this one?????? A little nudge from me encouraging you to try it. If you enjoy country music, ranches, horses, cowboys, little girls, healing, love, friendship, a little suspense, forgiveness, you'll enjoy this fabulous read.
Content: Clean. There is a scene where a character is attacked and almost raped but it is stopped. Not overly graphic but definitely would recommend this book for more mature readers. There is no sexual content, just a couple sweet kisses.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
This was every kind of awesome. It has a wish-fulfillment fantasy base (though with a bit of a twist), but it takes that base and infuses it with heart and warmth and I couldn't put it down. The initial impetus is a little forced (Sara's mentor/producer tells her that her latest album isn't from the heart and he has a suggestion for how she can do better) but I liked that Sara took that initial impulse in her own direction and made it work.
Seeing Sara pull up her big-girl boots and get to work (both at the ranch and on her art) was engaging but even more so that she lets herself become engaged in the lives of the others she finds there. And yeah, a lot of that is the supremely attractive Cal, but his daughter was even better and the others at the ranch were engaging in their own right, too. So we get to observe her growing and determining who she wants to be even as she helps and learns from the others around her and I just lapped that all up.
Because I was so engaged, I swept right by some of the weaknesses in the plot (like the predatory intern nonsense). I mean, I know they're there and that they don't bear scrutiny at all, but I just didn't care. Because none of those distractions were very large and afterward there was always more Sara and Cal and Stella.
So yeah, I'm giving this all the stars and for the most part, it deserves them. If you can't engage in a wish-fulfillment fantasy and are going to scrutinize every detail then you might want to set my evaluation aside. But if you want a very engaging tale with an excellent emotional payload and lovely characters, then give this book a try.
A note about Chaste: Both main characters have good reasons to keep intimacy to a minimum. So all we get is a bit of kissing while they figure out if they're going to be able to overcome the not-insignificant issues they'd face to be together. So this worked extremely well.
Oh. My. Goodness. One of my Goodreads friends put a warning in her review that the reader wouldn't want to do anything but read once they started this book, and of course she was right. If I could have, I would've started reading in the morning and read the entire day until the book was finished. Since I couldn't do that I had my Kindle read it to me while I cooked, drove and even cleaned the classrooms at our chapel!!
Sara Silver is a country superstar but she's a shell of the girl who started out in the music business 10 years ago. Her record producer, Rusty, tells her her work isn't as good as it could be, and she needs to take a break to find herself. He arranges for her to go to a cattle ranch in Wyoming owned by a friend of his. She's to stay there as long as it takes!! Once she gets to the ranch we find that Sara's not the only one in need of healing.
The first thing I liked about this story was Sara's record producer, Rusty, was honest with her--telling her that the quality of her songs wasn't what it used to be or could be again. He genuinely cared about her and whether her label would drop her. He had an answer for all her concerns about her staff, etc. I also loved how he handled Marissa when Sara came back to Nashville and started changing her lifestyle, etc. Rusty to Marissa: "Sara's finally come out of her sleepwalk and you're acting like a bratty child instead of celebrating her recovery." Internally I cheered, everyone needs someone like Rusty in their corner.
To me, Sara's journey to get back to the spunky girl she used to be started as soon as she left for the ranch, and I think the smells of the ranch reminded her of her family's farm helped her journey get off to a good start. I loved her relationship with Stella, who I think helped Sara heal faster, and helped Cal heal too. The power of an adorable 4 year old. I love who Sara is when she returns to Nashville months later.
While in Wyoming Sara realized "She couldn't keep leaning on people, using them to prop herself up. She needed to figure out how to stand on her own two feet." And once she figured it out, there was no stopping her. The woman who returned to Nashville was no longer the girl who "constantly toed the line, followed a marked way laid out for her by others, and never left the path."
My mother died from cancer 20 days after my 18th birthday, so I could relate to how Sara handled her mom's death. There's so much advice and so many stories I never got to hear from my mom as I got married, gave birth, divorced and married again, so I understood all the feelings that Sara had been keeping pushed down. If you're a crier you might want some tissues for the part of the story when she returns to her family's farm after being away for years.
The author is fairly new to me as I've only read one of her books before this one, but I loved the way she wrote this one. I was drawn in right from the beginning and cared about these characters and what happened to them. I loved all the characters--Cap, Cal, Peg, little Stella, Sara's dad and brothers, and even Marissa. I'm so glad that several other characters also got their happy ending.
I have always loved music and I love how it touches my soul. One thing I wish I could do is write songs. That would be so awesome to be able to sit down and come up with something that inspiring, but alas, that is not one of my talents. I want to hear Sara's new songs!
Sara is a character that really resonated with me and came alive. It's no secret that I love a darling celebrity story and it's my favorite when that person is "normal," especially when they are able to go back to their roots and humble themselves and that's exactly what happened with Sara.
Who knew a ranch in Wyoming could be so refreshing and could be just the think to stimulate those creative juices again? I'm about ready to sign up to be a towner at a ranch like this one. The setting was tangible and I love the slow, simmering burn of a new relationship. In fact, I loved many of the relationships in this book, but of course, the romantic one always takes the cake for me.
Sara and Cal both have massive heartaches and big choices to make. These touches of sadness were important parts of the story, but didn't drag it down to the depths of depression. The overall feeling of this book is total satisfaction. I would love to see books about Sara's brothers.
Content: mild romance; a few moments of mild peril
Ever since her mom passed away, Sara Silver has been a shell of a human being. Going through the motions and doing whatever anyone tells her to do. She keeps to herself and refuses to let anyone get too close to her. She's no longer living... just existing.
Determined to rediscover herself, Sara loads up her old red truck and heads to Wyoming. She's determined to figure out the next step in her life and she can't afford any distractions. Enter in the handsome cowboy, Cal Jamieson and his adorable 4 year old daughter, Stella.
After losing his wife 3 years ago, Cal is no stranger to heartache. When he first meets Sara, he thinks she's a towner.. just there visiting the ranch for a week. But when he discovers she's there for an undetermined amount of time, he doesn't know what to think. He does his best to stay away from her but the more time she spends with Stella, the harder it becomes to hold her at arms length. It takes some time, but they slowly start to fall in love.
But when Sara feels her time on the ranch coming to an end, she will have to decide what she really wants. Can she see her life without Cal and Stella in it? Can she see her life without music in it? The answer to both questions is no... she can't. But how is she going to balance a family and her career? And will Cal even go for it? She's come this far and she refuses to let go. She'll just have to go all in and have faith that it will all work out the way it's meant to be and they'll be able to find their HEA.
*dreamy sigh*
I absolutely adored Sara, Cal and of course little Stella, who stole my heart from the very beginning! The setting and story line were perfect! I'm not going to lie... I was worried that drama would abound once Cal figured out who she was but I was pleasantly surprised with how that all worked out. It was seriously perfect and made me love Cal even more!
This is my very first book by Ms. Swinton and I can tell you it won't be my last! Can't wait to read her other books!
And we just cannot forget my casting! *dreamy sigh* I really do love these two! What do you think?
For me, a great story has to have characters that I both like (hopefully love!) and feel an emotional connection to. That is what I found here. Cal, Sara and little Stella were so likable! The connection for me happened so naturally and easily. I loved that.
The journey for Sara isn't so much an awakening as it is a re-awakening. Her soul has just forgotten joy. As Sara reacquaints herself with the core of who she once was, she finds her joy returning and it was so satisfying as a reader.
I loved the gentle, developing romance even though I had to wait sooooooooooooo long for a kiss. Good grief. The build up! It was killing me. I loved the inclusion of music and how important it was to Sara. And the ending?! So good. Yay for happily ever after endings!
This story was so good! I loved every page of it. 💙
Content: clean, kissing, one assault scene (almost rape)
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Country music sensation Sara Silver is in a rut. She’s been going through the motions since her Mom’s death, but her manager is calling her on it. He wants more from her. He sends her to a ranch in Wyoming to get back to her country roots, and hopefully to find her heart and soul again.
I loved Sara! She might come in with designer clothes and a calorie counting diet, but she is very down to earth. She quickly embraces a “normal” life and helping out around the ranch.
Cal and Sara have a lot in common with the losses they’ve experienced in their lives. I love how Cal supports Sara, encourages her, but does not judge her or push her past what she is ready for.
Cal has an adorable daughter named Stella who is four. I loved her personality: from her sweet acceptance of Sara to her many questions (especially the awkward ones).
Silver Star was a sweet, compelling romance, with a healthy dose of romantic tension! I just fell in love with the characters and loved seeing the character growth. I stayed up way too late reading, and simply couldn’t put it down.
I completely loved everything about Silver Star by Lisa Swinton! This book was a great escape for me during the last few weeks of school when the teachers decide that the kids need to cram in everything you can imagine.
But…I digress!
Sara is one of my very favorite characters. I seem to have a lot of those. One thing I loved about Sara is her courage. It takes courage to admit that what you’re doing is not working for you or for anyone else. It takes a lot of courage to realize that you need to forgive others and ask for forgiveness. And also to move across the country to stay with people you don’t know. I loved the amount of courage that Sara shows throughout this book. She also learns to love from the heart and move beyond grief. She’s amazing!
There’s Cal. I thought he was great too. You see the whole story through Sara’s point of view, so you don’t get to know what Cal’s thinking. But Cal is a gentleman. He’s kind, wise, a good person, and a great dad!
There are so many great characters in this book. It’s hard to touch on everyone. But I loved all of Cal’s family as well as all of Sara’s family.
I really liked the plot of this one. It was sweet, clean, a speck romantic, and unpredictable. I loved that I didn’t know what was going to be coming next. This is a perfect summer read!
A delicious contemporary romance, “Silver Star” is all clean goodness, cowboys, and country stars, a cute kid, horses and heartache, and a sweet romance that builds over the course of the book and feels real.
Cute story! It flowed well and held my interest. I loved the main character. This story was really just a lot of fun. I really loved the last quarter of it as the main character tried to figure out how to make everything in her life work. Totally worth reading for a sweet romance.
Reader Rated for ages 14+ for sweet romance and mild violence.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was hooked from beginning to end. In my mind, Sara reminded me of Taylor Swift...blonde country mega star, who’s 5’10”, wears red lipstick, and has had tons of boyfriends. ;) I, also, liked that even though Sara was a big star, she was still sweet and fun and down to earth. I really liked all the characters but I especially loved Cal and Stella...they added the swoon and sweet factors to the story. ;) Also, it was fun that it took place in Cody, Wyoming. My son’s name is Cody and he has wanted to visit there...now, after reading this book, I feel like making a trip and seeing Yellowstone. :) Anyway, this book was everything I hoped it would be and I’m pretty sure I’m going to miss all the characters.
Romance, clean; This was a lovely read! Light romance with two honest hearts. The fame setting with Sara's music career and her need to find peace to compose, find herself again, and get away from the programmed and forced production she has found herself stuck in in the past made for a lovely read. Cal and his family, the ranch setting, hiding her identity, but finding herself made for a lovely read. Honest, hurting hearts; genuine characters that wanted 'real' with the ranch setting, was a perfect read.
I love stories with children in them. This is probably because I simply love children.
Silver Star combines a cowboy with a country music star trying to get her love for music back. When Sara meets the handsome widower, Cal, and his precious princess, Stella, her heart doesn’t stand a chance.
I love the way that Stella is such a princess and the way that Sara relates to her so quickly. One of the cutest scenes was one where Sara gets Stella to eat the broccoli which she has refused to even touch in the past.
The content is clean, though there is a scene where a character is attacked and almost raped. I would not recommend it for a very young audience for this reason.
Parts of the story felt a little stilted and parts made it seem drawn out but overall it was an enjoyable read.
I've been waiting for Lisa to come out with a new book and YAHOO it's here! And once a again she did a fabulous job! It's a wonderfully written clean romance that sucks you right in and keeps you turning those pages to the very end. Sara has it all but her music career is not as heartfelt as it used to be so her manager sends her off to a ranch in Wyoming. She is sent to write and come back when she has songs for a new album. She didn't know what she would be getting herself into but little did she know her world would forever be changed by the wonderful people she spends the Summer with. I enjoyed all the characters in this book and what they brought to the story to help it be complete. The friendship and connection that is formed between Sara, Cal and Stella is just perfect.
Can Sara, a celebrity living a hollow life, find her heart on her extended stay at a Wyoming ranch? Cal and his daughter Stella find their way into her heart. I liked Sara once she left Nashville. Cal and Stella were great characters too. A Wyoming ranch made a good setting for the story. The pacing was perfect for the story. As it’s 1:30 in the morning, I guess it’s obvious that I didn’t want to put the book down. There were a few dramatic scenes in the story; all well written, as is the whole book. Lisa Swinton is a new author to me, but one that I want to read more from. I received an ARC from the author. I chose to write a review and share my opinion.
I loved this book! Sara and Cal have both suffered great losses in their lives, and are reluctant to enter into new relatioships. Sara’s life has been in a tailspin since she lost her mom. Cal lost his wife and is now raising his young daughter alone. Though Sara is at Cal’s ranch incognito, it is her care of little Stella, Cal’s daughter, that brings them closer together. Love slowly blossoms between them. Will Sara’s secret keep them apart? Read this sweet, thoughtful romance and find out. I could not put this book down until it was finished!
Silver Star is so much more than I expected. Yes, I am a total country music fan but you do not even have to like music to get sucked into this story. The warnings about having enough time to finish should be heeded. It was 7 am when I finished and went to bed! This is a wonderful, sweet, clean romance about going back to your roots to rediscover yourself. I loved the strong, well - written characters. Even the supporting characters were well done. The story is just amazing.
Modern Western Love Story This is the best love story that I have read in quite awhile! It is so totally believable from setting to characters to plot. Everything is well thought out and it flows seamlessly. It is a clean story which makes it an even better tale. I can easily see this being made into a movie without changing a thing. I will be reading more of this author's sweet version stories. I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
I loved this story; Sara needs a much-needed break from her country star life and goes to Bar J ranch under an alias to revitalize where she meets Cal and Stella who change her life. Cal is healing from his wife's death, raising his daughter, is not looking for love but has found it with Sara. How will it work out? Will Sara give up her singing career? Will Cal give up the ranch? The story is beautifully written with well-developed characters and I would highly recommend it.
This is a great "city girl falls for cowboy" love story filled with emotionally charged subplots that enhance the main plot. I enjoyed the writing and the characters but occasional got distracted by cheesy stereotypes and predictable outcomes. Having said that, cowboy/western love story lovers will love this story and the relate-able characters.
Loved this one so much! It’s been a while it seems since I read a good dreamy sign book. This one was one of those for sure. I loved Sara and Cal together so much! The character development and dearie in this book are amazing! This Author keeps getting better and better for sure! Can’t wait for more from her.
This was a stunning read. It is so beautifully written and the rich, descriptive language made this such a joy to read. I loved the character development, and the ‘slow burn’ romance was SO well executed. I won’t say anymore about this, because I don’t want to write spoilers. This one is up there with ‘the best’ of the cowboy/ ranch reads!
Sara was disillusioned and lost so she found somewhere quiet to write. She also found Cal and 'princess' Stella. Two very different worlds in this delightful book. Great characters and a good storyline will keep you reading until the last page. I definitely recommend this book to all romance fans.
I was hooked from the beginning and it just kept getting better! My favorite book from Lisa Swinton so far. I couldn't put it down. A very satisfying read.
I felt the story could have moved a bit faster at times and wished for more of the story at others, but overall I liked it. It was a hard book to put down.
