Everyone interested to invest in the enigmatic world of Stock investing must read this book because:
1. New Innovations
The book incorporates 8 (Eight) new Innovations - formulas and techniques. These are a first of a kind in stock market arena. We need to get them copyrighted though.
2. Everything is Real
The book is jeweled with real examples, real numbers, and real stock situations - right out of my own portfolio. There is nothing assumed about the stock investment process. The process works and works practically.
3. Experience Matters
The crux of my 20+ years of experience in the stock market, as well as 45 years of life experience, has been stitched in a beautifully crafted story form.
4. Learning Stocks via a story
The story format of stock learning is also first of a kind - where a stock writes its own biography and in the process, teaches how humans usually handle a stock and what is the right process to do so.
5.Simple is Powerful
The lucid language and a simple story with real life examples are absolutely easy to understand and grasp. This will be, perhaps, the first book on stocks depicted in a simple story form - making finance easier than ever before.
6. The Lessons
There are 83 unforgettable lessons - each one supported with real data and real examples.
7. A Cohesive Strength
This book will form a cohesive combination with my first book (From the Rat Race to Financial Freedom), which is already a bestseller !

**A strategy by author to trap naive readers in his Portfolio Management Service (ELITE-100) by making false commitments**

This book and his other book (Rat race.......) is a well-planned laid down trap by author for the naive readers to sell his PMS advisory(ELITE-100) by making false commitments in the book.

Author claims is that his life's mission is to elevate the society, in whatever ways he can. But when you will associate with him you will know that his life mission is to be a highly rated author by hook or crook and to establish his portfolio management services business by trapping the naive readers of his book. See author commitment in book- No charges, No fees, no constraints.... in his mail- He converts his free social service with almost free then demands Rs. 2999/- (One Time) + Optional Quarterly Fee. It doesn't end there. He demands review of his book at various shopping sites from his readers who opt for his ELITE-100 and this is first step (3rd thing out of his 5 things in first step). Who will rate him two or three star (and not four-five star) who is willing to take his service after paying Rs. 2999/-! and this is the trick author has adopted to get around 100 five stars at Amazon.in for two of his books (Rat race..., Autobiography....).

I read this book few months back and rated it five stars at amazon for clearing his mandatory step-1 process as ELITE-100 member. However, now I am changing the rating to one star as the concepts mentioned in the book failed to deliver intended result to its own author. Author runs its own Portfolio Management Service (ELITE-100) for its readers (as he claims) and selects the stocks based on his theory. His first recommendation "8K Miles Software Services Ltd" was recommended at around Rs. 650/- and calculated its intrinsic value as Rs. 1129/-. He mentioned stock WCRA opportunity (Cost Averaging) at Rs. 555/-, Rs. 355/- and Rs. 351/- with total Qty of 476 shares. His recommendation averaged out at Rs. 387/- per share with a total investment of Rs. 1.85 Lakhs. He has explained the stock homecoming in his book but his recommended stock never came home and he gave exit call on Rs. 211/- per share. His recommended stock's liquidity was so poor that it didn't sold out even after week of his exit call and even after stock traded below Rs. 160/-. He updated his website as 42% loss on exit while it was more than 75% loss to his ELITE-100 reader/member with his recommendation and around 60% loss even after cost averaging. Author is lying with readers of his book and the visitors of his website. He doesn't have any credibility as he can't use successfully his own theory.

The book is not written by a person who is expert in the field of investment but by a person who is ambitious for high rating at book selling sites for establishing his Portfolio management service.

I have never been fond of reading but accidentally found this book on my wife’s kindle. I thought let me read first few pages which are free to read. Since I won’t understand anything about stocks and its terminology. I will leave this book and will forget about it.

As soon as I started, I couldn’t stop reading. I had to buy the book as I couldn’t stop thinking about Gobind and his stock God. The way the author has narrated the story between these two characters, makes our learning very interesting. I felt that this is not a book for one time reading. Its a user guide to buy/evaluate stocks.

I have recommended this book to all my family members and my friends. This is a must read if you think stocks are risky to invest. It will change your perspective.

Glad I found this book.

A beginner's Bible!
The book talks absolute method over madness and that is why it will go a long way.
With a very meticulously detailed methodology, the book almost convinces you to walk in to the stock market with your helmets and chest pads on!
Must read!

Word of advice - Take it slow, practice, keep it close and consult at every decision-making moment.

Stock investment is very much hyped investment option besides being a liquid one. More than half of the population in the country invests in stocks and that too without any requisite knowledge and understanding.
Have you invested in stocks? Does the investment is after proper analysis or just on the basis of ‘hearsay’ or “tips” available. Majority of investors depend on “tips” to invest their money in particular stock or shares. And they think that’s enough for long term investment goals but later usually incurs losses.
During my finance internship, I too was caught by this stock market bug and played as a dummy investor to learn the stock investment fundamentals. Then, I was investing on the basis of news and tips available in the market and not with insights as talked about in the book. Even though I was aware of the terms but didn’t know how to utilise them for profitable stock investment.
The Autobiography of a Stock is a learner’s guide who is keen to invest in stocks with simple understanding of the fundamentals and concepts.
The book has been formulated into a storytelling form keeping the reading interest intact. Here the narrator is himself “The Stock” telling his story and providing valuable investing insights. Also includes, Govind, an investor to whom all lessons where taught in the book by Mr. Stock. Narration through conversations between Stock and Govind has made the book an effortless read.
The book involves study and interpretation of financial formulas and ratios covering from Earning per share (EPS) to Free Cash Flow ratio (FCF Ratio). The investing process has been elucidated with tables and charts enumerating the step by step approach to stock investing. Moreover, the author has provided his copyrighted Innovations in the book where he defined few terms, for instance, Dividend Oxidation Effect and Client Inertia.
The information in the book of numbers and stock values is very much real and were part of the author’s portfolio.
The book encapsulates the process of how a stock should be chosen for investing and techniques that would ensure that the amount is invested in profitable stock with wisdom and knowledge. The author has provided his techniques and has done his own analysis for stock investing which will prove fruitful practically.
The book also holds eighty-three lessons which acts as manual rules for stock investing. These rules were somehow the essence of stock investing process.
The concepts and terms have been explained in clear manner in a way understandable for a non-commerce person. Though in the second half of the book, there are calculations, interpretations of the ratios and financials of the company which may not work in favour of a person with non-commerce background and having less qualifications.
Also, I felt there was a detailed or prolonged analysis for buying a particular stock which may somehow could cause unwillingness in the investor to follow.

Why to read this book
The ones who are looking forward for long term stock investments with an aim to invest with the requisite knowledge necessary to invest in the market should surely go for this book.

The book, authored by Mr Manoj Arora, is a great book for beginners and experts alike, into the art of Value Investing. The narrator, Mr. Stock, who is Stocks in human form, takes a protégé and trains him in becoming a successful investor.

As part of the dialogue between the protégé & Mr. Stock, most of the common falsehoods about stocks are readably put forward by the trainee and addressed by Mr Stock. And in the process, value investing is made easy. It is made intelligible. Personally speaking, I had been struggling with understanding where & when to put my savings into equities. After this book, I have had a great boost in confidence in understanding stocks. One can simply crunch the numbers according to the book and get a self-created picture of the stock through all the ratios mentioned there. The book’s strength lies in the understanding & analysis of the stock.

The book introduces a very elegant statistical method to get to the right price of a particular stock. It also shares handy tools to monitor the stocks after initial investment so that one can maximize returns from it.

The book is also designed for easy reference in future –key concepts, quotes/lessons & tables are indexed for ready reference.

And finally, the book slowly brings you to the ideas of patience and humanity – which are quite contrary to what one perceives of the animal spirits driven market. It turns around the 'Greed is good' dictum of Gordon Gecko to – 'Help humanity through financial freedom'.

The author has written this book with quite different approach to explain the concept of stocks and parameters to look out for selecting stocks which has some simple mathematical formulae. Good read for those who wants to invest in stocks with some proper judgement, instead of relying on someone's opinions to regret later on. Make sure you carry notepad to make notes while reading for the better use of the teachings from the book in practical.

Very beautifully written the fundamental of Mr.stock. It is people should improve their belief system towards the fundamental value of the Mr.Stock and giving enough space to gain profits. Manoj, much appreciated for your efforts to lay this so clear...!!

A good book if you want to learn just the basics.

If you are just starting out and would like to know the basic terminology and parameters that are used then this is a book for you.
The author uses a fictional character to explain you the concept in a story using some live examples of Stock.
Unfortunately there are some errors in his example. Yes bank CMP on 18th Nov 2014 in the book has been mentioned at 693, cross checking reveals it was around 140 during the same period.

The author asks us to not make judgements under emotions or attachments, a very good advice.
But ironically he is using your emotions for GOD to kind of make you into believing in his methods.

You can use the concepts in this book but device your own methodology.
Warren buffets philosophy is to never lose money but even the genius himself has made multiple mistakes.
You will make mistakes but the deal is to keep your avg in positive.

3.5/5
This book is great as a gentle introduction to the world of stock market investing, for complete beginners. Every term is explained well, and a numbers-over-emotions framework is meticulously laid. The information is presented in a nice question and answer format between the student and teacher, allowing for an engaging read.

My only qualm was with the "story" itself. Of course the story is secondary in this book, but sprinkling a financial investment book with a bunch of spiritual beliefs was definitely not to my taste. Also, a few times the author unabashedly promotes his other works within the text, which is definitely not appreciated.

Nevertheless, it can still serve as a reference and a stepping stone to delve deeper into the field.

None can predict or pick value stock these days. That's what I got from this book.

Got to know the hardwork that is needed to pick a stock. the author also agrees that there are a set of rules /formulae to find if a stock is worth it. His pick which is YES Bank with all the analysis tanked from ~400 INR to 5/- INR. These guys don't know what they are doing.

Bring in this data to the machines that can crunch numbers at lightning speeds and trading bots that can perform a buy on this desicion . Is it still worth picking a stock ? Doubt it.

When everyone feels there is a magic formula, it ceases to exist ... ( Very soon )

A good book to understand the nuances of stock and what makes them so addictive ...

I would rather write 2 reviews for this book. 1 after reading, and 1 after successfully taking returns from my investments! Right now I have read the book and it teaches you a method for long term investments in stock market and the reasoning for the method is quite convincing which is why I have started investing. This is 1 of the books which actually simplifies stock market investing rather than complicating things and make you feel scared.

It is to be noted that, this book is for the absolute beginner (who have little or no idea about share market, but want basic training, to enter into it). On the positive side, the book explained many concept in a simple language with enough philosophical insights. However on the negative side there are a few points to be noted.
1) Many people who don’t have a literalistic mind would find the book, hard to understand, especially when they are forced to differentiate facts from the fiction.
2) The chapters (where the stock analysis is being done) are lengthy enough to lose the interest in the subject.
3) Many of the lessons by main protagonist are delivered in a single session. But in reality such step-by-step information can’t be learned and understood, with such a shot span of time(sessions).
4) Only one stock (Yes Bank) is analyzed in great length, which is too inadequate for learning purpose. And someone may wonder the popularity of the book had the book was released this year (when malpractices in YES bank had been started surfacing).
5) In the end of the book, the author has shown the courtesy to tabulate the lessons as well as the formulas used (in the book). Had the author shown the chronological steps of identifying a good stock (with his software industry background), then, it would have been much more wonderful.

What an amazing read ! I am so grateful to Him for bringing this book to me. The way Manoj Arora has beautifully crisscrossed stocks with human life and the metaphysical is awesome ! I have never ever gone near the word stock, leave apart investing. And I never had this careful-methodical approach to money either. This book made me look at wealth in a very different manner. Having moved away from corporate life already, and volunteering my time with social sector, I definitely have felt the pinch when I wanted to help more, but I couldnt - for want of resources. This beautifully crafted Manoj Arora's story - starring Gobind & Mr Stock - definitely make me see so much hope where wealth creation will give wings to my dreams to create a better world.

Manoj has explained concepts so simply and beautifully, that though one may not understand all - we can get a very good picture of how our fears can keep us away from things we deserve. How patience and faith can move moutains. The short lessons in the book, The comparisons with daily life things, and connecting everything to God and Human lives make everything so absorbing. The book makes the impossible possible with a wealth of knowledge, tools, formulas, and real examples.

The Autobiography of a Stock - A common man's guide to stock investing is a book by Manoj Arora whose previous book Rat Race to Financial Freedom I really enjoyed reading and bought this one and started reading it. Though I have done MBA in Finance where Securities market is a subject on its own and there were many related subjects which can be chosen as optional subjects to advance your knowledge into the stock markets further, I found this book comfortable to read and enjoy. It brings a storytelling experience like Conversations with God and gives the key messages via the talks. There are more than 80 lessons mentioned in the book which are worth making a note of and with the time you will master them too. The examples taken in the book seems to be correct at the time of print but now as the stock market fluctuates a lot keeps on changing, but I have to test the model with some stocks of my own preferences. I really loved the way the whole concepts of technical and fundamental analysis is dealt with and a normal reader will be able to look at the bigger picture clearly after reading this book. I loved the storyline and the concepts of stock market incorporated into the same. Go for it for a manual where you can learn and experiment the ideas with the real stocks from Sensex, Nifty or any other trading indexes. I am definitely going to test the same using the practical ideas mentioned in the book before putting my money into the stock market again. Published by Jaico Books and priced at Rs. 399 only, Kindle ebook edition is available for less price on Amazon. Cheers!!!

A very crisp introduction to value analysis for stocks for beginners. It does not claim to be a comprehensive tome on stock analysis, but rather an introductory one that teaches you the basic acronyms and what they actually mean, how to analyse the various ratios and how to do it continuously. It does this job very well. The later sections might need multiple readings to understand even though the author has made all efforts to put things simply.

This is one of those books, like math books, that you will have to do hands-on, as the author walks you through the process. Reading it without putting it to practice won't get you anywhere.

The story format breaks the monotony of what can be a dry subject, but the constant references to god can get a little tiresome. The author does foresee this, though, in the Preface - "For others, I would suggest you to read it as a story".

If personal finance interests you in an India specific context, I recommend one of the author's other books too -

The book introduces you to a few copyrighted innovations to analyze a stock. There is step by step instructions for these analyses and there are frequent summarizations, cross verifications, and clarifications to ensure that you aren’t lost with the all the numbers. The author also talks about faith, God, and spirituality based on his experiences. While sometimes it helps the narration, there are times it does become an overkill but you can choose to ignore those parts because the rest of the book to me is promising. I couldn’t have asked anything better than this to learn how to invest in stock markets. The book speaks the language of the beginners and is simple to follow. Although I haven’t yet tried the techniques that the author is advocating, I would certainly recommend the book to anyone interested in investing. This book, I promise is better than any friend who might have impressed you with some deceptive jargons, because you get to learn at your own pace, follow your instincts, and charter your own journey.

As I am fan of “Autobiography of Yogi”
I got interested in this book. Reading it will not disappoint you. But, Yes Book can be made more simple. Psychological part and technical part need to be separate.
Book is Conversation between Stock & 25 yo Gobind
in attempt to simplify complex financial concepts.
83 Lessons are there.
Some of my favourites:
Develop Emotional Resilience.
Diversify your portfolio.
Focus on fundamentals.
Learn to learn Continuously.
Understand Valuation (worth of company) before investing.
Periodically adjust your portfolio.
83. Don’t check back price of sold stocks

The book is a guide to stock investing for an amateur investor. It talks about the nomenclature commonly used in the stock market, the myths and misconceptions investors fall prey for and highlights 83 lessons which investors should remember while dealing in stock.

The book presents stock as the protagonist Mr. Stock, who takes sessions with potential and present investors and answers their queries and pushes them to think logically and mindfully when dealing with stock. He has a soft corner for Gobind who backs out from stock investing after burning his fingers in the stock market. Gobind seems to be the projection of the author himself. This is a fantastic book on relevant basics of stock investment, with a step by step analysis process for selecting profitable stocks/ businesses. The fictional style of narration of has made this book enjoyable and at the same time, very informative. I have found it to be highly helpful in fine tuning my stock selection knowledge.
Accordingly I have re-balanced my portfolio of stocks, after reading the book. This showed results in terms of overall increasingly positive numbers coming to my delight.
I highly recommend this greatly valuable book,to all persons who are afraid of stock investment, and also to all those who are already involved in stock investment. Even seasoned investors may benefit from this book.

Manoj did a fabulous job. I believe this book is a gift to all of us who dream to invest in stocks. I was eagerly waiting for this book and it exceeded my expectation. I read many other books on stock investing authored by some of the best experts of stock world. With due respect to all them, I would say this book is the only one which explains the concepts with real examples and calculations which are easy to understandable by common man like me. I personally will continue to consider this book as my encyclopedia of stock market. I could not thank Manoj enough for writing this great book for us. Moreover, this book also teaches us to be a good human being and make money for noble purpose in life. I really wish Manoj to write many such books in the future – you are a true inspiration.

The book was very straightforward and easy to understand which was its greatest strength. the author wrote all the economic and financial jargon in a really simplified manner. While starting the book I had little doubts when I read the introduction cause it was written that the idea of the book came to the author through his dreams wherein God told him to write the book. So, I thought that this was going to be one of those self-development books where the author would just say to trust in God and all. But, it was not so. Therefore I liked the book and would recommend to anyone thinking of getting into the stock market.
But please do not start investing on the basis of this book only. Please do a lot of research while venturing into the stock.

A few things I like about this book:
1. It talks about a heavy, boring subject of value investing in a light, fun story
2. It explains difficult financial concepts and ratios well
3. It spends a lot of time talking about patient investing instead of a "get rich quick" approach which I appreciate
4. I found the value analysis examples really helpful

A few things I wasn't too fond off:
1. It was repetitive. I get the need to drive him key concepts about investing but he talks about "Him" so often without contributing much to the main storyline
2. Writers do plug in their website, work resources. I hope the book was to portray great decision making in the past to get people to enroll to the ELITE program he mentions at the end of the book
