Building Fences by Violet Howe
Cedar Creek Families book 1. Contemporary romance.
Caroline meets Levi on the way to meet her birth mother. Complications and small town situations have the two spending time together and their attraction to each other grows.

Heartwarming and lovely, this single mother takes a chance on multiple issues. Her first description of her stay at home status is empowering and thoughtful. She thinks when she doesn’t have custody of the children for a weekend that’s she depressed but in truth, she just needed purpose. She finds that and it’s so fulfilling.
I enjoyed Caroline’s building relationships and her finding home. It’s a book I stayed up way too late reading so I could get resolution and that satisfying wrap up.

The various Cedar Creek series are all loosely connected by town and family connections but don’t need to be read together.

“Who builds all these fences?” Ethan asked.
“ Levi has a crew that manages that now, but I have to say, I miss the days when I’d head out with the boys to spend hours putting posts in the ground or repairing fenceline. There’s nothing like the steady labor of building fences to give you time to think. Clear your head. I spent many a year building fences in my youth. Fences keep things you don’t want out, and keep what we value most in. They also remind us to pay attention to what’s right in front of us rather than spending all our time gazing off into the horizon for what might be. Or what might’ve been.”

What another Great Book by Violet Howe. Levi is one of the main character throughout this story. I had previously read about Levi in one of The Author other series called Cedar Creek Mysterys. I liked Levi in that story and thought of this series as well. From the very beginning of this you couldn't help but likeLevi he was sweet and caring. The other main character is Caroline at first I hought caroline needed to stand up for herself a little bit more when it came to her overbearing ex husband Brad. But by the end of this book she put him in his.spot and tell him like it is. I couldn't put the book down as it was so good. I keep telling myself one more chapter and would continue to read to the next chapter and then would repeat. I have already started the next book in this series and can't wait to learn more about Caroline and Levi story and also learn more of the backstory of Caterina and William and what lead up to the situation they are currently in.

Levi’s Story - did not disappoint!

I couldn’t put this book down. I loved the tie to Cedar Creek as much as I expected. But I loved the characters more. I had already met Levi before and thought him sweet, but I fell in love with him so much in his story. Caroline was great and I enjoyed watching her growth throughout the story. Her ex was a moron. Her kids are fun and add an extra element and layer to the story. I read this book in one day which is saying something for me. I now *need* to read Crossing Paths!

Holy Hanna, This book rocks!

I can't say enough about this book. The characters are awesome. The writing is superb. And I couldn't put it down, which is why I am writing this review at 4:02 in the morning.

I just want to say thank you to the author for writing such a beautiful story. It spoke to me on so many levels. It was good to see adoption addressed positively showing different points of view of that story. I loved the strong family dynamics and loyalty and support of friends.

It made me laugh, cry, and smile with happiness warming my heart.

I highly recommend this book to everyone. Especially to those who love a good small-town romance.

This story is a long journey as Caroline deals with issues from the past and starting to explore future possibilities. At the beginning of the story I was frustrated with how Caroline gave into her ex even before you get to the rest of the story. I loved the way she grew and came into herself and to be strong enough to do it on her own. But with the love of family newly discovered and the mom who always cared for her she doesn’t have to. The ending of the book is really a wonderful new beginning. #CMCon26

So beautifully written. Ms. Howe truly made it hard for me to put it down. This book took my breath away in so many ways. It made me laugh, cry, and pulled at my heart.
Caroline Miller is a divorced mother with two kids. She does the best she can. Her ex doesn’t not make things easy. But the last straw was when he was about to cancel on there kids. That’s when things got interesting. She got news she’d been searching for so she left for Cedar Creek for answers. What she gets is so much more then she expects. She meets people who will change her life. One man
In particular who she isn’t sure of, but Levi changes so much for her all in good ways.

See what happens and buy this book. You won’t want it to end. Luckily it won’t be the last. More to come. I’m truly glad for that.

I loved when she meet Levi Parker who does so much for her, and goes way beyond what she expected a totally stranger to do.

Received arc for honest review...I’m still in the feels with this book I might actually have a book hangover. I should probably award it 5 stars to be REALLY honest, because it left me wanting MORE. This book’s about second chances and finding love and family! The mc is adopted and discovers her birth parents a year after a shitty divorce to a controlling dickwad and all the bs that ensues with her 2 kids and all changes that occur because of it. In some things it was a little too neatly tied up, but there was enough realness and heart to keep me turning the pages. I loved that the author left the ending open and that she’s already mentioned that more books are to come about some of the characters mentioned. It was so hard to put down and once again I hated life getting in the way of my reading (seriously why can’t I get paid to read, someone please?)

I couldn't put this book down. Caroline's life is turned upside down with one call. She was adopted. She wanted to find her birth mother, but was discouraged by her ex-husband. Her ex-husband is by far the worst sort of human. While her kids are away, Caroline ends up on a crazy adventure that changes her life. I loved the characters especially Levi. I enjoyed how supportive Levi was.

Building Fences by Violet Howe

You know it’s a good book when you can’t believe the last page had been read, because you are so invested in the characters and the story line. This is the case in Violet Howe’s Building Fences. The *meet cute* of Levi and Caroline made me smile. The reader just knew the two of them would be developing a relationship.
Caroline’s ex-husband, Brad, was a real piece of work. He cheated on her during their marriage, was verbally abusing her and controlling all aspects of her life. Their children, on some level, were aware of the tension and the difficulties in the marriage.
Brad’s negativity and need to control prevented Caroline from trying to find her biological mother. It wasn’t that she didn’t already have a loving adoptive mom; it was just a hole she wanted to fill in learning about herself. After an unexpected phone regarding Cat, her biological mom, Caroline went to meet the lady herself. Unfortunately, Cat had serious medical issues and was in a medically induced coma while her anti-biotics had to do their work.
Patsy was a business partner and close friend to Cat. When Caroline came to meet her mom, she had to wait for days for Cat to awaken. She and Patsy developed a relationship while they waited together.
Levi, prince that he was, came to the hospital to be supportive of Caroline and a romantic relationship developed between the two. I appreciated the ethics and moral character of Levi and how he was so genuinely interested in the children’s best interests.
Caroline’s mom, Lorna, was very helpful in caring for Eva and Ethan and tried to help support Caroline emotionally. When all the characters got together after Cat woke from her coma, the family realized it was filled with lots of loving relatives. The second *meet cute* was really a reunion between Cat and Caroline’s father, William, who owned a local ranch.
I would like to find out if Brad was going to take Caroline to court and cause trouble. Would Cat and William do anything about their past history? Would Levi get the children’s approval to become Caroline’s husband and would they accept him as their step-dad? Would Patsy’s reaction to finding out that Caroline was her half-sister would cause problems on the ranch and with her father? I guess I’ll have to wait for future books to find out the answers to these and other questions.

I want to tell Violet that this is one of the most heart warming books I have ever read. The characters in this book is so real you feel you are there watching it unfold and feeling the heart break and the joy as the story goes along . Looking forward to reading more of your books.

When reading the blurb for Building Fences, I honestly wasn’t expecting to enjoy the story as much as I did. I’m stingy with my ratings, so to have this story grab me enough to hand out 5 stars may require a little explaining. Contemporary romances are not my favs, but I’ve enjoyed this author’s other works, such as her romantic suspense story A Ghost in the Curve, so thought I’d give this a go. I’m so glad I did! To me, the adoption and seeking out the birth mother was the backstory. What got this reader’s attention was one kind hearted cowboy by the name of Levi Parker, and how he took a chance on a divorced mother of two. “I went to sleep with a smile on my face, and I dreamed of the brown-haired, brown-eyed cowboy who had stolen my heart.”

Caroline Miller is a newly divorced mother who’s just trying desperately to keep her life from falling completely apart. Married to a man who selfishly controlled her for years, Caroline steps out of her comfort zone when she’s asked to take a leap of faith with a complete stranger. Levi Parker can’t quite put his finger on what it is about Caroline, but his heart is telling him she’s the one…if he can only convince her he’s ready to give up his bachelor ways. “I want you in my life. Whatever that looks like, however we have to work it out to make it possible. It doesn’t matter. I don’t want to go back to the life I had without you.”

Violet Howe has written a second chance romance that I could not put down nor did I want it to end! Highly recommend!

Building Fences is the first book in the Cedar Creek Families series by Violet Howe. Caroline Miller’s life has been thrown into turmoil as she is on the verge of divorce, an upcoming move with her two children and someone connected to her birth mother reaches out. Caroline has been searching for her birth mother for years and now she finds herself driving to Cedar Creek, only to have her car stolen in a plank gone horribly wrong. Love is the last thing on her mind and she definitely wants nothing to do with Levi, the handsome prankster, who tries to make amends. As she prepares to reunite with her birth mother and learn more about her origins, Caroline begins to examine her current life and her wide open future. Will she take a chance on love again?
Building Fences is my first full length novel by Violet Howe. I love stories of second chances, rebuilding lives after life changing events, so I was looking forward to reading this story and being introduced to a new author. After the first chapter, I was confused about who was who and had to reread a few sections for clarity. There were a few awkward sentences and I thought maybe I was reading too fast to understand but slowing down and rereading didn’t help much. It didn’t do better from there. As I read, I found the storyline farfetched, the characters were unlikeable and the length of the novel was too long. Overall, I did not enjoy Building Fences and I will not continue with this series. If you are a fan of Violet Howe’s books, you may enjoy Building Fences.

Not what I expected...not at all! And I have to say I'm sooo mad at myself for waiting to read this book! I can already predict that this book will be in my top 5 books read and reviewed for 2019...maybe even my number 1 for the year.

There are so many levels to this book that touch an array of emotions. Caroline is a divorcee raising 2 kids while trying to stay in the good graces of her ex-husband; not to please him but for the kids. In the meantime, Caroline has recently decided to search out her birth mother and discovers her birth mother had been seeking her out too.

This story is so much bigger than a daughter discovering who her birth mother is.

It's about second chances.

Now here's why I absolutely love love this book: Levi Parker

He is my new book boyfriend and Caroline's second chance at love. (I won't spoil the story of what unfolds but I'm in love with Levi's character)

Violet writes a story that well thought out in regards to what a single mom must consider before she puts her own needs first. Caroline's kids come first and will always come first - I love and respect that :)

This is not my normal genre but everybody needs a little romance in their life sometimes! Once I started reading, I couldn't stop.

Carolyn Miller is recently divorced with two children and a controlling ex. After her husband grudgingly takes the children on his scheduled weekend, she gets an unexpected chance to meet her birth mother. After a blown tire and a case of mistaken identity, she meets the name she never knew she needed - the cowboy Levi Parker. Levi provides a strong shoulder for her to lean on as Carolyn faces a serious of revelations about her birth parents, her ex-husband, and herself.

The story is a meet cute and not really that surprising but the characters really rang true for me. The teenage daughter was just the right mix of teenage sarcasm, angst and compassion.

I enjoyed this book and will definitely check out her other books.

Predictable, contrived, and too coincidental, even for chick-lit romance, also in desperate need of an editor. There were too many phrases with no verbs, mistakes in sentences so they didn't make sense, and the author writes like we speak, a lot. I didn't care for that. Some examples: pg 38, The only hospital there is nearby. Did she mean that's the only nearby hospital??? pg 54 Excited to be in the presence of someone who might be the one. I stopped noting things like that until I got to this ugly grammatical error, pg 243 Would you mind giving my wife and I a bit of privacy?? yikes!!! Please, someone, go find an editor! So, other than that, it was a nice story. I can see more Cedar Creek stories involving extended family members.

Caroline was told by her husband and adoptive mother that no good would come of finding her birth mother. She felt ashamed of being adopted and kept it a secret. It wasn't until her husband divorced her for another woman that she had the courage to search for her. She gets a call a few months later and races to meet her only to find her in the hospital in a coma with all her questions unanswered including why she gave her up and who is her father. Will she ever recover to tell Caroline the truth? Along the way she runs into sexy cowboy Levi. Can she find happiness with him without hurting her children and losing them to her jealous controlling ex? Sexy romance with plenty of drama and humor.

“Building Fences”, the newest book by Violet Howe, is a gem! Caroline, the main character, struggles with many life changes and roller coaster emotions as her life takes quite an unexpected turn. Her story is brilliant and exciting. The author does an amazing job provoking emotional responses to the various pieces of the puzzle that is “Building Fences”. The romance is slow and steady, and the family changes are impactful in ways that readers will never forget. I, for one, will read this book time and again. I only hope that Violet continues in Cedar Creek with the characters for several books to come!

This is the first book by this author I have read and I found it to be a story that grabbed me and would not let go.Caroline Miller is a divorced mother of two children and she is doing the best she can, her ex-husband needed to grow up.He buys a convertible and expects to take the children camping in it, he changes vehicles with Caroline and that is where the story takes a fun turn. She might have finally found her birth Mother, but things get really complicated when the car she is driving gets taken. That leads to her meeting Levi.A good story one well-worth reading.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked this story as it hit on many of the common problems facing families today, adoption issues, marriage break-ups, parental rights, custody issues, finding separated family members and getting one's life back in order. It is my first read by Violet Howe and her characters are well-developed and portrayed, and memorable and it is well-proofed with very few typos or errors. I started it before my vacation and so didn't read it as a continuous read.

Warning: Unfortunately, near the end of this story, there are some steamy elements and profanity and use of the Lord's name in vain that I found quite offensive and totally unnecessary in making this a good read.

I received this book as an ARC. It's not a book I'd normally read, but I am so glad that I decided to give this book a go.
Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down! It was easy going and I could feel the emotions of each character. Caroline Miller going through a nasty divorce (seriously I have never wanted to run a fictional character over with a care more then I did her ex), Lol with 2 children. Learning and finding out who she really is and where she came from.
I highly recommend this book!

I don’t have many books that go unfinished. Something just irks me about not making it to the end. I think I had 5 at the most... this one makes 6.

Not sure how anybody made it through the pathetic meet cute in the very beginning of the book. There’s chick lit and then there’s just garbage. I didn’t like the characters and the plot line is not realistic at all. “Let me take a ride with an immature wastrel who stole my car and put it on a roof... that’s a great idea.”

Hard pass! Luckily this book was free. Now I definitely know why.

I really enjoyed this book. The author was able to make life as a single mom realistic and she really brought out how hard it is to move on from a divorce and the way you seem to be pulled in all directions. I liked reading the budding romance between 2 of the characters and can’t wait for the next book in the series. The author created a need in me to know more about the people of Cedar Creek ! I

Extraordinary well written story.

I absolutely loved this book. Violet Howe did an amazing job of creating realistic believable characters in Caroline and Levi, her family and the many people in both their lives.
The story was multi faceted and sensitive subjects like adoption, divorce and love were handled with great care and finesse. I started this book and could not out it down till I came to the very satisfactory conclusion.

I received an advance reader copy via Booksprout.

Building Fences features probably one of the funniest meet-cutes I've read recently. Plus, it gave me ALL THE FEELS. <3
Caroline and Levi were easy to root for, and the supporting cast of characters made me want to read more books about the folks of Cedar Creek.

This is the first book by this author I've read, but I have already two more on my Kindle, and I suppose more titles from her backlist will soon follow.
