A Cowboy's Charm

This can’t be love…
Quinn Sawyer has no business getting involved with Kendra McGavin. He has a thriving horse-breeding operation in Spokane, and she owns a ranch in Eagles Nest, Montana, seven hours away. But when his vintage Harley breaks down while he’s visiting his daughter, Kendra’s barn is the perfect place to complete the repair. Stranded on her ranch for several days, Quinn finds the lovely Kendra impossible to resist. Flirtation quickly leads to…something more.

Quinn flips all Kendra’s switches…which scares the hell out of her. The only men she’s had in her life since the unexpected death of her husband more than twenty years ago are her five grown sons. She’s single by choice, and that’s worked out just fine. She’s not ready to change her family dynamic. But the vision of a long-distance affair is tempting, especially if it won’t disturb the status quo.

It’s the perfect arrangement. As long as they don’t fall in love…

Kendra and Quinn finally get their story. This pair may have met after their kids were grown, but they didn't waste any time once they decided to spend tine together.

The sparks between these two could flame high and wide enough to consume an entire forest without signs of stopping. They're cure and refreshing to read.

Both were overdue for some adult fun in their lives. And boy can they play, once they finally give in. Their fervor is like kids on Christmas morning. So excite for each new nuance.

Too bad they live so far apart, spokane and montana. But, they decide at the onset to enjoy each other a few days every month or two when Quinn visits his daughter, nothing more. Of course, plans rarely work out that way.

Another amazing addition to this series. It was great and sweet seeing Kendra finally being in front of the stage. It was touching and tugged at my heart. Each book in this series can actually be read as a standalone but it’s nice knowing some of the background. Even though the author touches on happenings, so the reader knows, you get more reading the other books. Any one is worth reading and this one is up there. Heartwarming. Book gifted to me.

The McGavin Brothers Series by Vicki Lewis Thompson

A Cowboy’s Charm (Book 9)

Overall Rating: 4 (sXe)

Quick & Dirty summary: Quinn Sawyer and Kendra McGavin are experienced enough to know the difference between friends and lovers. The attraction they feel is mutual, but with Quinn’s home being an 8 hour drive from Eagles Nest, there’s isn’t much hope for a romantic relationship. Despite the obstacles in front of them, Kendra and Quinn know how special it is to find someone special.

I love that this book focuses on a more mature romance. Kendra is actually quite young for having 5 adult sons, so it feels like a mature romance only because she has adult kids wandering around her farm. I won’t give away any spoilers, but Kendra struggles a little with her identity, as Quinn poses a change to her routine and sense of self. I love this aspect of the book. It gives it depth and some conflict that isn’t driven by external drama.

This is a relatively short book, so the pacing is quick, but my one wish is the author had spent more time filling in some of the scenes. Don’t get me wrong, the character development is strong, especially because we’ve gotten to know Kendra and Quinn in previous books, but I wish we got to see more of them. One scene that comes to mind is when Quinn drives through the night-I would have loved to have seen more of that.

In any case, this is a great book. I am happy that Vicki Lewis Thompson tackled it, especially since we get to see Kendra, especially, over the course of the series.

Is it worth buying? (Kindle $0.99)
This is a well-written book and at just under a dollar, is a great buy!

Something else you might enjoy:
You should read the previous books in the series. It will make this book more enjoyable.

I couldn't wait to tear into this story. After reading just tid bits of Kendra's character previously in rhe other novels in this series, it leads up to this great story thatvis all her own! And getting to hear from the McGavin family again was great! This series filled in many missing pieces of the story about this family to give a more complete account about the McGavin family's lives!

Quinn is no stranger to the McGavin series. Hearing about his daughter, Roxeanne's love story and getting to meet Quinn, you could sense there was some sparks flying when he met Kendra.

Sometimes you don't know why you adore characters so much. When seeing how Kendra and Quinn interact together and with those of Eagle's Nest, it makes you fall in love with the setting, characters, and plot as if the first time reading about each of them.

It takes such a dynamite writer to be able to have a series where everything starts making sense, each book is better than the last, the wheels of time and quite a bit of dirt and sweat leads to romance once again, while all at the same time having loads of laughs and tears along the way.

If you're wondering my overall view of this book, it's five stars all the way!! I had to read this four times before even wanting to write a review because sometimes words don't even do justice but the story is soooo good! That would be the case with this inspiring story of two determined, successful, middle aged ranchers in a very fast paced situation whirling out of their realm of experience. They've raised 9 children total but been on their own as widow and widower for many years and Kendra wonders if she should stay that way. Do read and find out!

I've been waiting for the book since Quinn first walked onto the scene in A Cowboy's Kiss. He and Kendra had such great chemistry together! And I was not a bit disappointed.
I love Kendra. She has been a key character to this whole series. As we have read about the five terrific sons she reared on her own after her husband died, we have learned quite a lot about Kendra. She is smart and strong and hilarious. She has a great family, wonderful friends, and a very good life on her ranch. But when there is a great character in a romance series, you have to wonder if that character is going to get an HEA. Kendra certainly deserves one after all her work, but he was going to have to be someone extra special in order to be worthy of her.
Quinn managed it. Gracious, that man is something else. He is an actual grown-up, but he isn't completely set in his ways. He recognizes how special Kendra is immediately, and he admires her strength and sparkle. As much as he wants Kendra, he is very careful not to put her in an embarrassing position in front of her sons or friends -- a very thoughtful thing to do. And what a sweet talker! He is not afraid to let her know how attracted he is to her. So when they finally get to the bedroom, it is hot and sweet and awesome.
Now if they can just solve that pesky distance problem...

I have read and loved all the books in this series, and was hoping Ms Thompson would give Kendra her own story. This is Kendra’s story and for that, thank you Ms Thompson.
Kendra McGavin, a widow of 20 years, has not only raised her five sons , but also owns tand operates the ranch where she was born . Her sons have found significant others and when a man she has been attracted to rides into town with his broken down motorcycle, it gives both Kendra and Quinn a chance to spend time together.
But life is full of complications, as they get closer, they also realize that their relationship would have to be long distance. Something Kendra is not willing to do.
As Kendra and Quinn deal with their relationship, the angst and internal turmoil, we get a chance to spend time with the McGavin family. Always a joyous event.
In the end Kendra and Quinn go their separate ways, or will a solution be found that will allow them to have a happy ending? Another touching story about life, family and love.
This series has been a sweet and heartwarming one to read.
I received this copy as an ARC. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Quinn Sawyer and Kendra McGavin are kindred spirits. They've both lost their spouses and raised their children on their own. Each of them has their own ranch to run and they've been attracted to each other since they first met.

During Quinn's recent trip to Eagles Nest, he encounters a problem with his vintage motorcycle. The always hospitable, Kendra offers him a cabin to stay in and an open stall to repair his bike.

The chemistry between Quinn and Kendra is hot and amazing. They finally act on that attraction and agree their relationship is only for "fun" because she has her ranch and he has his in another state, and neither is willing to give that up. They enjoy their fun time together until Quinn's bike is up and running and they realize there's more to their relationship than just fun.

After Kendra realizes she's in love with him, she sends Quinn packing and back to Washington. Will they find a solution to the logistical barrier keeping them apart? Grab this enjoyable read and find out!

As always, this is an honest review given for a ARC.

I have been waiting for the much loved Kendra to get her happy ending. The 46 year old widowed mother of five boys has been a lynchpin in the other books in this series and hasn’t looked at another man since her Ian died 27 years earlier. However, when she bumped into Roxanne’s father (in Book 7 of the McGavin Brothers - A Cowboy’s Kiss) sparks flew and she felt 17 again. This book was well worth waiting for and did not disappoint, Kendra has always been a fun lady to read about and Quinn was just dreamy. Their story was not without problems though; five over protective young men who have never seen a man in their mother’s life and the little matter of Quinn living a long distance from Eagle’s Nest. My five star rating is based on having read all the books in this series and whilst this is a standalone, you will probably relate to it more if you have read at least some of the other books.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What a great book! A Cowboy’s Charm is Kendra McGavin’s story. She is the widow who has raised her five sons for almost 20years and during that time never so much as dated. Quinn Sawyer was introduced in another McGavin book when he came to town to visit his daughter, Roxanne. Quinn is also a widower who raised his four kids himself. From the first time the two met sparks flew but they never did anything about it until this last trip. On this trip his Harley breaks down and Kendra offers him a place to work on his motorcycle and a place to stay. The sparks are flying again but this time they go for it and find themselves falling for each other! Don’t t want to give away anymore you have to read it yourself to see what happens. It’s great to see characters that are older falling in love having fun we may be getting older but we aren’t dead!! Can’t wait to see if Quinn’s son gets a book!

A Cowboy's Charm (The McGavin Brothers Book 9) by Vicki Lewis Thompson Wow this is the 9th book and Vicki is still going strong. Quinn Sawyer ( or as I picture him Sam Elliott) is Roxanne's dad and that is how he met Kendra McGavin ( mother of the McGavin Brothers). He came to town to visit Roxanne in a previous book and that was the beginning of it all. Thank you to Vicki for letting me preview this book...I didn't want to put it down and I didn't want it to end..Yes there is a HEA but Vicki has left the door open for more stories and weddings (Cody and Faith this time). Loved the Ouija board and the "stashe". So many laughs, good feelings, some hot stuff and even a few tears... I always feel as if I'm living in Vicki's stories...and I never want to leave.

This is a sweet and sexy addition to the series. It's romantic and entertaining. Quinn is charismatic, determined and amusing. Kendra is stubborn, unsure and much too dedicated to her sons. From the moment they met there was a spark, now Quinn wanted to do something about it, and with one kiss he had started a fire. Now all he has to do is not let Kendra know how he feels, because she's not willing to change anything about her life. They are good together though, they are much more alike then either of them thinks. The most special part of the book though was Cody and Faith's wedding. It was so beautiful it made me cry.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Love a romance story about older people like Kendra and Quinn. Romance isn't only for the young, it's also for the young at heart. Both had grown children with their own lives to live. Instant attraction when they first met, however, they let their feelings develop slowly. Beautifully written, great characters, and entertaining. Loved the family dynamics, true love abounded throughout the story. All my favorites from previous McGavin Brothers stories were also in this one, another good reason to read this series. I would like to recommend this series to you, I think you will love it, too.

This is the first book in the series that I have read. I was attracted to the concept of an older couple. Both have grown children and have lost their spouse long ago. You had to like and admire both Kendra and Quinn for how they dedicated themselves to raising their children after they lost their spouses. They were really a perfect pair. The only problem was where they lived. I understood the choices they made. I was happy that there was a positive resolution but have to say that I did not find it fully satisfying.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book!!! I've been waiting for Kendra and Quinn's story for a while and it was more than worth waiting for!! Quinn is absolutely one of my favorite romantic heroes. He's got all the qualities of the perfect hero. He's strong, funny, caring, dedicated to his family, sexy, romantic, and gorgeous. He's also middle-aged. This is my favorite Vicki Lewis Thompson book so far! I recommend you read it. It can be a stand-alone, but it's better if you read all of the books in the series. I can guarantee you won't regret it!

In her latest, A Cowboy’s Charm, Vicki Lewis Thompson perfectly captures what it is like to fall in love after 40, or 50. Her hero and heroine are age appropriate and oh so much fun. Readers have been watching Kendra’s son’s fall in love so it is finally her turn. I have been waiting for the book for a while and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Kendra and Quinn are perfect together and the perfect read. I wish more authors would start writing heroines my age, they are so much fun to read.

This story feels like an exclamation point on the love lives of the McGavin family.
Vicki Lewis Thompson gives us a beautifully written romance between two people who have already raised families and are just looking for a little companionship. And, I commend Ms. Thompson for not shying away from the lust-filled sex scenes just because the characters are more mature than the ones in your average romance novel.

Very realistic romance story for a mature couple as they deal with an attraction that has been building and their struggle with being "set in their ways". Kendra is a great character and I was so happy that she got another chance at love, she is as stubborn as a mule though, lol. Quinn is just as stubborn, as mature as they are they still have to iron out a few things, if a person wants something bad enough, they will compromise...to a certain extent anyway. :) Great story!!

I was so hoping that Kendra would get her HEA! In a Cowboy's Charm, Quinn Sawyer (Roxanne's dad) falls for Kendra, but there are pitfalls to this seemingly perfect romance. Kendra isn't looking for a new husband, but is pulled toward Quinn. I loved this sweet but sexy romance with seasoned characters who know what they want.

A Cowboys Charm

I really liked this story. Quinn had gone to Eagles Rise to see his daughter Roxanne. He saw Kendra outside the bakery. He was having trouble with his vintage motorcycle., leaking gas tank. Kendra offered to take the motorcycle to her ranch where he could work on it. They had known each other before this trip of Quinn’s. More to come with theses two. Enjoy.

I won a copy of this book from the author. I had read it about 4 years ago and loved it then. I loved the story of Quinn and Kendra, a couple in middle age who had lost their spouses. I very rarely reread books because I have so many on my e-reader, but this one was well worth it. An older couple has different perspectives and issues that most romances, ones I can identify with.

Another satisfying and enjoyable story. I loved the idea of two people falling in love, but living a long way from each other. I especially loved that these two people fell in love, Kendra being a widow in her 40's and Quinn a widower in his 50's. Loved it! 5☆

Being an “older” reader makes me happy to see good stories of older couples. This was funny, romantic, heart puttering, and enjoyable. It was also well written with good plot and characters. Can’t wait for the other characters’ s stories.
