About the author

Felix R. Savage

Felix R. Savage writes hard science fiction, space opera, and comedic science fiction. He has also occasionally been known to commit fantasy.

Felix has a long history associated with rebellion. He was born in the 1970s, a decade of American youth rebelling against the safe culture of their parents. He is married to a wonderful woman and they have two beautiful daughters. Together the four of them live in Tokyo serving their cat overlord and benevolent protector. Felix pounds the keyboard while not translating, delighting in his family, or catering to the whims of the family’s cat. He woke up one day to learn that he was a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, but he continues to keep a low profile, and never stops watching out for any sign the lizard people have found him.

Enjoyable short story - more tomorrow.

I have read a number of sci-fi stories by some of these more modern authors (note to self, I really must not just read authors from the Golden Age (Verne, Wells) and the Classic era of the 50s/60s (from Wyndham to Heinlein, but mostly Asimov ), oh and add in Niven and Pournelle and numerous others).
Gosh doesn't that make me sound really old ha ha.

Anyway, a lot of them write really good sci-fi, especially of the soap opera and military variety, and this is no exception. It is an enjoyable story that focusses on a group of Marines out to rescue fellow humans from a world invaded by ghosts, with a capital G.
As someone else has commented, I can see me being pulled into this world in a "big" way, and as these "young" authors are prolific, and write in each others universes, there are a lot of books available.
Returning to the story this ends in the pilot of the transport ship playing a priceless violin belonging to one of the rescued colonists (happens every day lol).

This is a science fiction, space opera type, short story that is the prologue to the Tegression Trilogy by Felix R. Savage. I received a free copy for an honest review. The story involves a platoon of Marines landing on a world in the attempt at rescuing colonists besieged by aliens called Ghosts for their ability to mimic humans. There’s a great deal of hard science and technobabble like in Heinlein’s Starship Troopers and the movie Aliens. The story is intriguing with a bit of heart. The plot and characters leave you wanting more, and I could see myself getting lost in this universe. It does the job that it is meant to do as a quick read: it appetizes and prepares the palette for the main course.

This short story is a well written and informative prequel to Mr. Savage's The Tegression Trilogy. Even though I read it after I read the trilogy, which is awesome, I enjoyed it very much. It filled in some blanks I had regarding the story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"Never give up."

It took a few minutes to grow into the freighter and the rescue mission being attempted but then the novella sparkled. The author writes well, hard S.F., peopled with real characters as well as ideas, and leaves the reader wanting more. Enough to lead me into starting book.one in the Extinction Protocol series, The Chemical Mage.
Narrated by David Thorpe, his performance was plausible but a little rough around the edges.
