One last mission. It’s a promise familiar to Captain John Duggan. Each final battle has another following it, with another after that. They come to him with the inevitability of death. His latest task seems no different to the others before it. As events progress, Duggan begins to believe – he starts to see how his life might change at the end of it and how the lives of billions in the Confederation may be saved if he succeeds. This time, his superiors plan no less than the destruction of the Helius Blackstar itself. Struggling with hints of betrayal from the most unlikely of places, Duggan sets off on this most ambitious of missions. To survive, he must fight his way through a series of tense battles against a fleet of enemy warships in the harshest environments imaginable. Before he can achieve victory, he must also face the deadliest opponent from all his long years in service. The Class 1 Neutraliser Excoliar is out there in Confederation Space, and until it’s defeated humanity will forever be at risk. Nemesis is a high-action science fiction adventure and the seventh book in the Survival Wars series.
Anthony James spent his youth reading what might now be called classic sci-fi and fantasy books. These days, he spends time in his study with the door locked against rampant and ferocious toddlers, writing books of his own.
That's the third person stuff out of the way.
For anyone who's read any of my books, you'll know that I write action science fiction that pulls no punches and which doesn't cram the good stuff into the last couple of chapters. The action starts early and it doesn't let up. I also take care to mix in plenty of humanity. The characters I write are all distinctly believable, often facing uncaring enemies and overwhelming odds. When they win, it's because they did their best.
Go on. Punch an alien today. Better yet, check out my series of books, each one filled with action, technology, warfare, aliens and against-the-odds survival. Lots of kick-back-and-enjoy weekend or evening reading.
Well, all good things must come to an end... as this series did, but it ended about 40 pages too quickly. It stopped like running into a wall, and didn't clean up the story of the main characters involved unfortunately. Sad, that such a great series ended so poorly, but still a great read.
I have read all 7 books now I have to find a book as good as these. wish me luck as I have enjoyed each one of these books the hole story from beginning to end I've really enjoyed them all .Don't miss them .........
The long saga ends, mostly as anticipated and with a whimper rather than a shout. As delivered, I found the ending less than satisfactory and even though our protagonists survive, there was little resolution for many of the questions raised in this long series. I was expecting more, considering the length of the books and the detail often given for the events. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit short and felt rushed, as though three quarters of the way through book 7 the author decided the book needs to end now, this just needs to stop whatever way possible. The level of frustration is sufficient to prevent me from starting the following series since I doubt it would be any different.
This was one of the best series I’ve read. James gave you an opportunity to come to know the main characters. At the risk of sounding like an old fuddy duddy, he wrote a book that had ( do I dare?) tasteful vulgarity. Didn’t see the F word anywhere. The overall series was a pleasure to read and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. As James promised, there was action from start to finish with hardly left time to come up and breath. I had to read each book from start to finish in one wack. Great job, Anthony.
I have enjoyed this series a lot. The main character is strong with a good support group in most books. This book seemed to be designed for a quick wrap up and seemed to leave something out for my taste.
After binge reading the Survival Wars series to get to the conclusion I regret finishing the series. I’m going to miss John Dugan & his indestructible crew (his Marines aren’t so lucky). Can’t wait for the next series.
Book 7 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The overall for this series was fun to read. The characters and plot was well done and was exciting in spots and in others dragged. I enjoyed this series and look forward to the next series; 40 yrs later.
The series generally deteriorated over the 7 books it got silly that only John could do all the things if he was so invaluable why try & sacrifice him so often. Like most series I try to get to the end if they are just good enough but when I do I'm glad it's ended I wonder if its really worth it.
I just loved this series! Thrilling... leaves you craving more ,as well as eager to read the next series of what 40 years later looks like when facing a new foe. I really enjoyed this series. Thank you?
I must admit I skimmed most of this. Seven books was a bit too long to spend with Captain Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the mirthless sod. And he never once used his trademark 2x4! (Sorry.) Seriously, though, the man’s like Scrooge McDuck. Grumble, groan, complain.
Having read the series I started to care about the characters. Some have come and gone. This book is an end to the current series, but feels a bit of an anti climax. Seems to tail off after a promising start.
