Humanity’s greatest fear has come to pass. Earth has fallen to the Ezeroc.
Grace Gushiken and Nathan Chevell travel to Mercury. They seek the hub of AI civilization, and the intelligences that control it. The planet is in ruins, torn apart by civil war. The insect-like Ezeroc have corrupted everything.
Grace and Nate find the mind of the machine-world missing. The Ezeroc control the AI. Against the combined power of insect and machine intelligences, humanity is outmatched.
One shred of hope remains. The remains of the Ezeroc homeworld still smolders in the hard black. The AI control mind is there. If Grace and Nate can wrestle it from the enemy, the Empire may prevail. If they can’t, the universe will fall before the might of the insects.
Tyche’s Ghosts is the second book in Richard Parry’s gripping Tyche’s Progeny trilogy. If you like page-turning space opera with great dialogue and heart-pumping action, get your copy today!
Richard Parry has worked as a senior marketing manager in one of the world’s top tech companies, but it wasn't all cocaine parties. His debut novel Night’s Favor and its sequel Night’s Fall have been shortlisted for the Sir Julius Vogel Award “Best Novel” category.
His ever-growing list of novels spans urban fantasy, cyberpunk, and space opera, featuring flawed heroes, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of action. His Night’s Champion trilogy follows an alcoholic-turned-werewolf saving the world, while Future Forfeit explores a neon-drenched cyberpunk future where hacking the system is just the start. Meanwhile, Ezeroc Wars throws readers into the deep end of an interstellar war against a swarm species that doesn’t take no for an answer. Across over 20 novels (and counting), Richard delivers stories packed with heart, explosions, and the occasional bad decision.
Richard lives in Wellington with the love of his life, Rae. They have cats, who chase birds. The birds, who have the power of flight, don’t seem to mind.
Tyche and her family – all for one, and one for all.
In Tyche’s Ghosts, the crew takes a physical battering far worse than in any of the previous novels. Richard Parry needs to add another medbay to the Tyche in order to keep up with the rate of casualties, especially as the crew numbers increase.
Then again, this novel continues the progression of very-good-to-better-to-even-better-to downright awesome. Parry keeps the action and setting fresh and fascinating. He has a well-structured setting with its own rules, and the usual causes don’t lead to predictable effects. His love for his characters comes through the strongest when the behaviours of those characters are at their very worst, albeit mainly in response to a willingness to sacrifice self for the good of the others.
I had purchased Tyche’s Demons and Tyche’s Ghosts as pre-orders. No more Tyche stories available for pre-order. Maybe Felix R. Savage has something new…
After the events of Book 1 the Thyches crew have never had it so grim or faced such insurmountable odds. However Nathans talent and daredevilry had a plan which although slim gives the human race a chance. All it needs is a band of insane heroes and a lot of luck, enter the Tyche as the Goddess of all luck and with some impossible feats of bravery the crew might just save themselves and the human race. Parry yet again makes the impossible seem viable with plot twists and unexpected turns that keep you glued to the pages. You always feel your in safe hands with Parrys writing as the impossible is all too possible and all too entertaining
“All of us need a little hope in our lives, be it humans or constructs.” I was so looking forward to read this book! The Empire and Empress, together with their friends and crew, with new characters incorporated, makes this an exciting and overwhelming journey with lots of twists and some revelations. An edge of the seat, agonizing and thrilling read! Parry makes it so real and captivating, I couldn’t put it down! I had tons of fun and emotional moments! Waiting Richard, for your next installment!
I’m not sure what more I can say about Richard Parry’s Tyche series than I’ve already said. It’s simply the very best science fiction series I’ve ever read. Ghosts is just the latest in an action packed, environment rich, villain filled universe that is extremely intelligently written from an author who knows how to get the most out of his wonderful cast a characters. The crew who make up the family in the goddess ship Tyche has grown on me so much that I feel that they are a part of my own family. When one crew gets hurt, or worse, gets killed then I feel like crying. I know that may sound a bit crazy, but Richard’s writing does that to me and I’m not alone. He’s gathering a fan base that had truly fallen in love with the Tyche universe. Ghosts is just another exceptional example of this beautiful series and should not be missed. I personally find it difficult waiting on the next installment, “Angels”, for I know it will exceed all my expectations just as every book has previously done so far. Thank you Richard for giving us all sci-fi gold.
Providence McKinley was studying when she suddenly lost her network connection. When the lights also went out, she knew fixing this would be more complicated. A gentle rumble of the apartment likewise didn’t bode well for getting things working again. Looking out the window, the building across the street was dark, and all the people on the sidewalk were staring toward the East – although she could not see what they was looking at. She was starting to become fearful. There was a continuous tremor in the floor now. The apartment doors had all locked as they were supposed to do when the power went out, so she grabbed her multitool to disable the locks. She ran down the stairs and bumped into 5 strangers, marines and their Bulwark leader, Daisy, who explained that the Ezeroc were outside and would kill anyone they could get to. So Providence ducked past and ran outside to find her father and warn him.
Outside, Providence saw something like an insect centaur. All the people on the sidewalk had disappeared. Dustin popped out the door behind her with a rocket launcher he fired on the creatures. Then he pulled her inside. Daisy told her that her father would be evac’d and she could meet him in orbit, so the six of them left the building. Two of the marines were killed before Providence got the van open and running. Almost at the evac center, an EMP knocked out the van and they had to run while insects swarmed toward them! Daisy tossed Providence in an escape shuttle and engaged autopilot as she stayed behind to give her life to save the child.
Grace Gushiken and Nathan Chevell travel to Mercury at the heart of Sol, but it looks like conditions there are no better. They are looking for the hub of AI civilization on a planet torn apart and in ruins. Grace and Nate find the “mind” of the machine-world missing with the Ezeroc in control of the AI. There is only one thing left for them to try. Though the Ezeroc home-world still smolders, the last hope for the Empire – the AI control mind -- is there. It all depends on Grace and Nate to get it back or the insects will own the universe.
With the author’s signature style, a reader will quickly notice, aside from the well-written story, there is non-stop action and emotional impact that keep the reader reeling from a barrage of events Nate and Grace appear to deal with effortlessly! The detailed description of the world around them and overwhelming events bring the story to life – and yes, you may sometimes choose to close your eyes! The twists and turns are almost too fast to follow! The tension never lets up!
If you are looking for rip-roaring battles and crazy characters, this series is for you. Nate and crew are still battling bugs and AI for the fate of humanity. Earth is over-run and the bad guys seem to be winning. This book has it all; laughter, great fight scenes, and (spoilers) tears. Can't wait for the next one!
This book was well worth the wait! As the crew of the Tyche looks for help against the alliance of Ezeroc and AI, their journey takes them from Mercury to the Ezeroc homeworld, finding allies of their own!
Full disclosure, I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
It's pretty tough to get five stars out of me. This series isn't quite what I usually look for in a book, which is the only reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars.
That being said, it continues to be an incredible payoff series. The characters remain true to themselves (vitally crucial to me). Each individual continues to explore what it means to be human, with all of the attendant flaws and triumphs.
It reads very similarly to how I imagine Firefly would be written. In a similar fashion, it's written as space opera; the focus is more on the relationships than the action. Which is not to say that there is not action; there is a bundle! But as is appropriate, it's all driven by the needs and wants of the central characters.
I recommend you start at the beginning of this series, and read all the way through!
Made My Top 3 Must Read, Sci-fi, Space Opera Series.
Personally this whole series has been without a doubt, one of the best sci-fi, fly by the seat of your pants, action packed, really wanna be part of this crew/family of amazing characters, that I've ever had the pleasure of reading for far, far to long. Each book keep's getting better and better, and I'm thankful that I have the next book "Tyche's Angels" waiting for me to rejoin this heart-thumping adventure. Once again Mr Richard Parry, thank you, you and your amazing, well written, page turning stories, flippen Rock!! Please let there be many, many more adventures to come.
The story continues to become more intense and I don't have an inkling where it's headed. There are new cast members and if it wasn't an ensemble before, it definitely is now.
The writer puts a lot of detail into the new characters' backstories and for me the new characters slide into the present near seamlessly. He may be hitting some kind of limit but for now, it feels close to organic.
The series plot gets seriously tangled at this point and I hope that it holds onto a solid internal logic. Looking forward to the next volume.
I read this book way back in 2018 as an ARC reader. Now I've reread it again in order to write a review. I have run into this problem many times, how to review without spoilers. Here is my try. Obviously it's about Cap Nate and his crew. But maybe his crew is family and it possibly expands so maybe he takes on the bugs, bad AI's and father in laws with his possibly bigger crew. The second reading was just as much fun as the first although it's clear that this is part of a series!
The greatest read has happened and earth has fallen to the aliens. Now they are going to mercury where things are no better. They need to get things sorted so they may get a chance to defeat them all for good. See how they will get on I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
It just keeps getting g better. An AI named Algernon is resurrected and added to the family. There are lots of Insect aliens to kill. The crew gets beat up and one may die, but they keep going. Will hate to see this series end.
Another great book in the series. As always, what I enjoy is Parry's combination of compelling and likeable characters with a great plot. I particularly loved the new character, Algernon.
Tyche’s Ghost picks up where Tyche’s Demons left off. Nate Chevell and his crew, more his family, are still chasing after the Ezeroc, nasty alien monsters that are a cross between crabs and roaches. Fortunately Nate has a crew that can handle them, and basically blow them to hell and gone. Tyche’s Ghost finds the Tyche traveling from one end of the solar system to the other, from dark and desolate Pluto, the site of a secret military base, to the closest planet to the sun, Mercury, seeking a way to get rid of the Ezeroc. Along the way, the action boils and never stops. And also along the way Nate and company pick up additions to the crew — a high level AI and several humans who have been cast adrift. If you are looking to continue along with a ship named after the goddess of luck and enjoy space operas that will keep you turning pages and reading into the wee small hours of the night, this is the book for you.
