Bitten Under Fire

Bianca Devlin’s work is her life. Now, she’s finally taking a vacation...and guerillas hit her resort to kidnap a diplomat’s son. She does the only thing that makes sense—intervene to save the child’s life. Being dragged into the jungle with a scared kid she’s determined to protect was definitely not how she saw this trip ending.

After she returns to Texas, the last person Bianca expected to see was Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, the member of Bravo Team WOLF that helped rescue her. Nevertheless, there he is, living across the street from the house she just bought. The coincidence is alarming, but she has to admit, his presence isn’t entirely unwanted.

But there’s something off about Cage—the way he can move without a sound or the weird way his eyes seem to almost glow at times. And how can Bianca manage her growing attraction, when everything she knows about him and his reason for being there, turns out to be a lie?

I love books. Not just a little bit, but a lot. Books were my best friends when I was growing up. Books didn’t care if I was new to a town or to a class. They were always there, my trustiest of companions. Until they turned on me and said I had to write them.

I can tell you that my own personal happily ever after included writing books. I’ve always said that an HEA is a work in progress. It’s true in my marriage, my friendships, and in my career. I am constantly nurturing my muse as we dive into new tales, new tropes, new characters and more.

After seventeen years back in Texas, we relocated to the Pacific Northwest in search of seasons, new experiences, and new geography. I can’t wait to discover what life (and my muse) have in store for me.

Maybe writing was always my destiny and romance my fate. After all, my grandmother wasn’t a fan of picture books and used to read me her Harlequin Romance novels.

Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, friends to enemies to lovers, you name it, I love them and love to write them. I started with Earth Witches Aren’t Easy, the first in the Chance Monroe trilogy, but my characters and I have traveled a long way since I created that urban fantasy world.

One of the series I hear my readers recommend the most is the Untouchable series followed in quick succession by the Vandals, and that just delights me. No lie, whenever one of my readers brings up my wolves, I do a little a fist pump.

I’m active on social media, and I love hearing from readers. Feel free to tag me with a question about any of my books, or just say hi!

Finally taking a vacation after months of living for her job, Bianca finds herself jumping to the rescue of a young boy or is being kidnapped by guerillas. Now Bianca is also kidnapped will does whatever it takes to make sure the young boy and she survive long enough to be rescued.

Their rescue comes in the form of Bravo Team WOLF. During the rescue, Bianca finds herself injured by a large animal.

Cage can’t believe what he finds when their special ops teams invades the guerillas camp. A sole woman battle to protect herself and their mark for rescue. Cage also can’t believe he accidentally injured the woman while in his wolf form. He doesn’t want anyone to know of his mistake but something about this woman enlists all his protective instincts. So, he decides to move across the street from Bianca to make sure she doesn’t go all fury at the full moon.

Bianca was an amazingly strong character. She knows her mind and isn’t afraid to follow through with her choices. She made this novel for me. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Cage but Bianca’s spirit was something to behold.

Sweet, sexy and an amazing female protagonists!

I received this ARC copy of Bitten Under Fire from Entangled Publishing, LLC - Amara. This is my honest and voluntary review. Bitten Under Fire is set for publication May 28, 2018.

This was much better than the first book for me. The heroine is a aid worker who loves what she does and when on her so called down-time she is kidnapped helping a boy, the hero runs into her life with a bite literally. The hero is a marine and a wolf, who accidentally bites her when saving her. He then has to make sure he is around to see if the bite took & she is turning. I liked the romance in this one. The h/H become neighbours & they just clicked. This one was a pretty good read.

Talk about a vacation from hell. First Bianca boss forces her to take a 6 month leave to get some rest and relaxation. While on her vacation she gets kidnapped while trying to stop guerilla soldiers from taking a small boy. Raised by her doctor without borders parents, she is always trying to help people in need and this was no different.
Lucky for Bianca, Carlos “Cage” Castillo (great alliteration) and his team are sent in to rescue her and the little boy. Something goes wrong, and Cage is has to keep an eye on Bianca even after she returns back home.
Bianca is very independent, she is smart, and has a great sense of humor. She is driven to help people but not a push over either. Cage is funny, charming and takes responsibility for his actions at once. I really liked them together, I could feel the connection was genuine and not forced like in other authors. I look forward to reading more from this series. This is the first from this author and I like what I’m reading.

I loved Bianca, girl knew when to speak her mind, “pease don’t flirt with me, not when I have no idea what my hair looks like and it tastes like something died in my mouth.” Cage often shocks his woman without meaning to, “one sec,” he told her, then faced the butcher who approached them. “Three pounds each of roast beef, turkey, chicken, and ham— oh, and a couple of pounds of the pastrami.” Shock rolled over her at the sheer volume of food..." Cage is very caring when it comes to his woman, “what?” His grin grew, ferociously cheerful in its intensity. “I like looking you. I also like that you’re moving so well today. I was a little worried I might have been overenthusiastic.” I liked this book, I loved Cage.

Release Day Review! Bitten Under Fire (Bravo Team WOLF #2) Heather Long!

The second book in the Bravo Team WOLF series by Heather Long confirms that my initial assessment of this series was spot on, in fact I would have to say I may have underestimated a bit. Bitten Under Fire is a thrilling romance that gets the heart pumping and passion raging.

This story starts off with quite an adrenaline punch and gets more exciting as it continues. It is fast paced with lots of dangerous thrills, twists that keep readers on the edge of their seat and a major secret that not only will have to be revealed but could destroy all the happiness this couple could have before it really gets started.

Bianca and Cage have lots of electrifying chemistry and being the strong, compelling characters they are, they easily draw readers into their lives as they strive for an happily ever after which in there is threatened by a major secret and plenty of emotional turbulence.  The attraction between Bianca and Cage is undeniable, the passion is red hot and readers can’t help but hope that they can overcome the obstacles and become another strong Bravo Team WOLF couple.

Heather Long has definitely created an exciting paranormal military world with lots of fascinating characters that I just want to sink my teeth into again and again. These wolves are tough, sexy and easily set hearts to pounding and passions burning and I can’t wait until their next mission.

This is an action packed contemporary romantic suspense that had me enthralled from the very start. Bianca Devlin is used to being sent from one disaster zone to another to help coordinate and organise support. She’s been doing this without a break until her boss insists she have a six month break, including going on a luxury holiday. Whilst in the exclusive resort she sees guerrillas kidnapping a young boy. She attempts to stop them but ends up being taken with him, being dragged into the jungle but is determined to protect him, even though her own life is threatened.

The boy is the sone of a diplomat and Bravo Team WOLF are sent in to rescue the child and are shocked to discover Bianca battling to protect the child. During the rescue Bianca is bitten by a large animal . . .

On her return to her new home, Bianca is shocked to discover one of her rescuers, Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, lives across the street from her. . . . . As the attraction between the two grows, there are secrets to be revealed, family to be faced and surprises galore. This is an engaging story with a strong female lead, several alpha males and plenty of twists and turns in the well developed storyline to keep the reader enthralled. It is a steamy romance with paranormal elements and plenty of suspense that combine to make it a fun, fantasy that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre, another winner by this talented author.

I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

This on only book #2 for me by Heather Long. I enjoyed the first one so decided to try the next book in the Bravo Team WOLF series.

I'm so glad that I did. I think I liked it better then the first one.

I enjoyed the whole story. Bianca is a caring loving person who doesn't take crap from anyone. Sometimes that gets her in trouble.

I really loved Cage. How could I not.

Together these two are perfect. I loved the way they interacted together. They really helped the story move alone. From the first page the story is non-stop something I love in my romances. I want to get to the end and wondered how I got there.

I'm really glad that I took the time to read Bitten Under Fire. I'm sure some with say this is a standalone and yes, it could be, but do yourself a favor and read the first book. You learn some much more about this group the the people in it but reading the stories in order.

I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first read by this author and I questioned whether it was a good idea to start in the middle of a series, but read the info and trusted that each book in the series is a stand alone. I was not disappointed by the author or the story!

Steamy romance with supernatural turmoil for characters to face, but never an ounce of disloyalty from any characters. I also love that the entire story, although predictable HEA, also so down to earth! No over the top dramatic storylines that may make us swoon, but also think that would never happen in real life. Aside from the werewolf aspect, lol, this was a just a fun, organic, love story that kept me interested from the first page to the last, then wanting to read the rest in the series!

This book is well worth your time and doesn’t have a lot of unimportant, extra junk to read through as the story progresses. It’s fast paced and holds the reader all the way through!

Bitten Under Fire by Heather Long is book Two in the Bravo Team WOLF Series. This is the story of Bianca Devlin and Carlos “Cage” Castillo. I haven't yet read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book.
Bianca is suppose to be on vacation but used to danger and dangerous situation she ends up in a gorilla camp trying to protect a child. Cage and his crew are their to save the boy and surprised at what they find ...Bianca trying to protect him. Accident happens and Cage believes he might have changed Bianca so he goes to keep and eye on her. Bianca is surprised to see Cage back home when she left the camp thinking never to see him again.
Their feelings start to come out along with Cage's secret.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. When I first read the description of this book I was drawn to it. I was not expecting it to be a fantasy and was surprised to find it about humans turning into wolves. I didn't let that stop me from reading as i wanted to make sure i could give a full review. I am happy to say that i was surprised by this book. The author had well developed characters and a great storyline. I loved the detail placed in the book so that i didn't feel like i was missing pieces. The author also kept my interest, without losing it, in suspense to whether Bianca was going to change into a wolf after being bitten. The romance part of this book was on point you could genuinely feel the connection between them. I would recommend this book to someone that likes military fantasy romance fiction.

Bianca Devlin 's life is all work and no play as a disaster relief worker, but it figures that the one time she's forced to take a vacation, she gets kidnapped by guerillas when she steps in to prevent them from taking a diplomat's son.

Bravo Team WOLF comes to the rescue and Bianca returns home to recuperate but her life is about to get turned upside down and Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo may be the only person to help her make sense of it, if she lets him.

I was completely blown away by the first book in this series and expected BITTEN UNDER FIRE to be similar, so I was somewhat disappointed when I didn't get any of the action and suspense I was expecting. But this book ended up being fun in its own way.

Bianca is independent, strong and enjoys a life with no fuss, but her attraction to Cage is reason to slow down and enjoy a slower pace and an unexpected romance. However, romance may not be the only change she is facing and she'll need every bit of fortitude she's built to face an uncertain future, which may or may not have Cage in it.

There were a few parts of the story that felt kind of cheesy to me, but overall, it was an enjoyable story with some surprises. I enjoyed the change of pace from the action-packed, suspense -filled series opener, and I am looking forward to what the author has to offer next.

Bianca works to live and lives to work. When she finally takes a much needed vacation, danger strikes when a diplomat's son is kidnapped from the resort. She acts without hesitation and tries to intervene, landing her in the same situation. Now she and the kid are being dragged through the jungle, definitely not a relaxing vacation.

Thankfully, Bravo Team WOLF helped rescue them. After she returns home and begins moving forward with her life, the recent past is there, right across the street from her new home. Yep, Carlos (Cage) is her neighbor. Is it a coincidence or a sign? She hasn't forgotten him, or how he saved her. And his presence is comforting after what she went through.

But Bianca begins noticing other things about Cage because yeah, she's watching him, so sue her. He's very quiet, as in he can move without a sound, and his eyes seem to glow at times. It doesn't stop Bianca's attraction from growing more with every encounter or glimpse. And it's not one-sided. However, things aren't as they seem with Cage. He's keeping secrets, not to mention lying to Bianca, and that's not a good start to the relationship they're building.

Is Bianca safe or did the danger follow her home? Is Cage her neighbor for reasons other than they just happen to live on the same street? Or was he sent there to watch over her? Are his feelings for her real or part of the charade? What happens when Bianca learns the truth and about what he is? Can they work past it? Is a HEA possible?

One-click now and follow along as two people are initially brought together due to circumstances beyond their control but discover a love that was meant to be.

Bitten Under Fire by Heather Long
Bravo Team WOLF #2

Paranormal romance – check
Strong hunky alpha hero – check
Strong smart admirable heroine – check
Engaged me – check
Would read another book by this author – check

This story had me from me page one and kept my attention throughout. I loved the WOLF team and can’t wait to read more of their stories!

In this book we have the team heading in to find an ambassador’s son and the woman that attached herself to him when guerilla warriors kidnapped and drug him away into the jungle. Bianca Devlin has devoted her life to making the lives of others better by working for NGO’s providing relief to those in need around the world and though on vacation stepped in to help Collin when others did not. Enter Carlos “Cage” Castillo and three of his team sent in to find Collin and remove him, and any other innocents, from the bad guys. And, they do so, in a very bloody manner. An accidental bite occurs that could change the path of Bianca’s life and Cage feels the need to stay nearby to determine what the outcome will be.

I love books that provide characters I would love to know in real life and this book did just that. Bianca is a wonderful person who cares about others and actually does something to make the world a better place. Cage is a dedicated Marine, team player and there for his pack. The two of them together are a match that is a joy to read about. When I finished the book I wanted to read more in the series and now have to wait to see what will come next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Emergency aid worker Bianca Devlin is used to being the rescuer. When she sees a little boy being kidnapped while she is on a forced vacation she rushes to his aid unfortunately getting kidnapped along with the boy. She does her best to keep the boy from more trauma. This all means that she and the boy need rescuing. Call in the Marines - Bravo Team WOLF to the rescue. Rescuing the boy and Bianca is supposed to be an easy in easy out op. Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo is leading his first mission and everything is going to plan until he accidently bites Bianca while tearing the guy who is about to kill her away. Now he has to wait and see if she will change.
I LOVE Bianca! She is smart, strong and totally human in the best way. I love that Cage is so secure in himself as a Marine but just as messed up as the rest of us in relation to his father (his alpha) and oblivious in relation to women.
Bitten Under Fire is a heartwarming tale that kept me smiling and rooting for love.

(hoopla audiobooks) I was only mildly entertained by Bitten Under Fire. The MMC spends the entire book watching/waiting for our FMC to change after he accidentally bit her while saving her. They have a few dates, a lot of sex, and fall in love. She is a little upset when she discovers the truth. But she's over it in 3 days and ready to be a mated wolf and give up her life's work and passion for this guy she's known 2 weeks. I know this is fiction - duh, it's a wolf shifter romance... but Bianca, our protagonist, seems basically uneffected by being kidnapped, held prisoner, beaten, starved/dehydrated, forced to dig her own grave, and then separated from the child she suffered to protect. You'd think she'd have all kinds of trauma and nightmares. Nah, that is just the first chapter. The rest of the time she's cracking jokes and going on dates with Cage. No biggie! 3 stars for OK. Not good, not bad, just OK.

Right from the start I was drawn into this one. I liked how Bianca was doing her best to keep her and Collin save. I was glad when they were rescued, even if Bianca got bit in the process. You could tell that Cage was regretful when he realized what he might have done and did what he could to monitor things. I loved how Bianca and Cage go to know each other, knew that Bianca had been bitten and it was just time before she turned. I liked that they had that time because I didn't think that Bianca was going to take getting turned into a wolf very well. When the secret came out things went better than I thought. I liked that through out the process Bianca and Cage had very open conversations about things. It made the ending so great, loved how Bianca came to accept things.

I love this series and this is one of the best books I've read in it. The characters are wonderful, the storyline is great and it's not only full of action it's also full of angst, loyalty, friendship, and love. You'll have to read this book to get to know Bianca and Cage. They're fantastic as are the others of Bravo Team Wolf!

Once again I’ve managed to read the second book in a series before the first. That said, I really enjoyed Bitten Under Fire and will definitely go back and read book one.

This was an entertaining shifter story, with plenty of action, danger and romance too. The world building was good and the characters were well developed. I look forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

Cage and Bianca captivated me from the start. I really liked them as people and how they treated each other. They aren't coy, they are open and honest. Now, you may say Cage not so much, but he wasn't dishonest, he was waiting. And then, he did the right thing as soon as he knew what needed to be done.

It was refreshing to have a couple that was, well, normal. They didn't have baggage that they carried, they dealt with their lives. They had family, and accepted them for their flaws, and loved them. They didn't need to be in the centre of the spotlight, or flashy, or stand out in the crowd, they were accepting of who they were, and embraced what made them happy

I really liked Cage and Bianca, and reading their story, let me get to know them, and how perfect they were for each other!

3.5 Stars for this Shifter romance book. Bitten under Fire is the second book in the bravo team WOLF series this author has written and published and I really liked these characters and the writing style. This book can be read separately from the first book – I haven’t read the first one yet as well for example – since they’re interconnected to each other and with each containing their own story-line.
---
The story-line is addictive and had me glued to the pages right from the start thanks to the easy and fluent writing. We read from both pov’s; the shifter one, Cage, and the human one, Bianca, and that gives this story and characters more depth it otherwise wouldn’t have had so I’m always happy when authors write from multiple pov’s, especially with stories like this, in which you have two ‘worlds’ to explore. Even though it’s a story that, in context, I’ve read a lot of times in other shifter books already – paranormal being meets human and they fall in love. Human doesn’t know what he is and maybe even gets turned herself -, it didn’t bother me. But because of that, it wasn’t really surprising and that’s why I gave it a 3.5 star rating.

I was really curious to get to know this particular shifter world, but in the end, I feel like I missed some depth/developing of it all, since the story mainly focuses on the romance part. Nothing particularly wrong with that, since I looove a good romance and the one developing between Cage and Bianca is really sweet and HOT. But there was still so much more I’d love to have read about these shifters and in particular things revolving Cage/Bianca that happened towards the end.

But, overall, it was a really enjoyable book! It has military elements – I LOVE MILITARY ROMANCE BOOKS. It has paranormal shifter elements which I loooved. I mean: WOLVES!! Just Awesome! Cage and Bianca are great characters to read about. Especially Cage. And not only because he’s this YUMMY sexy and hot military man who happens to be a wolf shifter as well, but I just found his thoughts and experiences in this story really interesting and it was a joy to read from his POV. The romance developing between these two characters was really well done and the developing was written at a good pace. I loved the writing. And this book may not have the most original story-line development, that I talked about earlier, and which is why it got this rating, but it was good enough to want more; More of this world and these characters. So I’m curious to see if there’s more coming our way – maybe a Silver book? That would be awesome! And of course, I’m going to check out the first book as well and add it to my to-read list.
---
If you love paranormal shifter/romance books, this series is one I’d recommend adding to your to-read list since it has a lot of what you’d expect and want in a shifter romance book.

description

So this was a little bit disappointing. I loved the first book in the series, but the story of Bianca and Cage was lacking. The things I loved in the first one, the military setting, the banter between all the men in the Bravo Team, was almost non-existent in this story.
The book starts with an action packed few chapters, that got me so excited, but after that the author hits the brakes on the action, hard. There is lots of overthinking and over-analyzing on the part of the main characters, which starts to repeat itself at some point. I had big hopes for this one, and I don't think I will be reading the next instalments in the series.

All the feels

Love Bianca and Cage. I want a Cage for myself, lol. From the jungle in Costa Rica to the streets of Austin TX, his honor and strength stood out. His having to keep the secret of what he was weighed heavy on him as his human side realized what his wolf already knew. And in Bianca we have another smart, strong female that I love to read about. Can't wait for the next book in this series, I want to learn more about the rest of the team.

Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review.

A different kind of storytelling for a paranormal romance novel than I’m used to…but I liked it. A lot.

At first, I requested this title because of the inciting incident described in the summary and the rest of the description seemed to support such an unusual beginning well enough to garner further interest. But it was the characters that kept me reading, which Heather Long does a fantastic job creating to propel the story along.

Bianca is a humanitarian through and through. She’s thoughtful, tough, independent, driven and possesses a great sense of humor. Cage is a dedicated Marine who wants to prove his worth. He’s funny, takes responsibility for his actions, and incredibly caring. I really loved that both characters have dedicated their lives to helping and saving people. They are truly perfect for each other. Also, the dialogue between them is just so on-point and witty.

While Bianca and Cage are terrific characters and romantic leads, I adored their parents. The Devlin’s are also humanitarians who work as physicians for Doctors Beyond Borders. They’re so fun-loving and dedicated to their work and each other. Cage’s father is not a man to be trifled with. But he has this certain appeal and charm about him, an adorable softness when it comes to his pack and family.

It took some time for me to get used to such a character driven story. The majority of the book focuses on the development of Bianca and Cage’s relationship. I kept waiting for some third-party external force to disrupt things since the actual problem would take time to make itself known. It was unsurprising when that crux moment finally occurred but the romance kept me buoyant until then. There was a lengthy explanation about what wolves are, which for me I found boring because I’ve read so many shifter/wolf stories. But I’d say this would be a good starter book for anyone who hasn’t read or is not too familiar with this aspect of the paranormal in fiction and the possibilities to create distinguishable supernatural beings.

The ending was a bit cheesy. I think it could have been done differently – same idea but different material. Or perhaps the final scenes needed more space for more impact. But what happened did its job and there were feels aplenty. Too rushed but okay.

Bitten Under Fire is the first book I’ve read by Heather Long and I think the first military-esque fiction I’ve read – the latter another aspect I loved about this book. I’m not sure if I’ll go back and read book 1 because right now I’m not too interested in Jax and Kat’s story – although I did like their brief presence in this installment so maybe someday. But I would recommend this book regardless. Heather Long is a great writer and storyteller.

This is the second volume in the Bravo Team Wolves series of which I read and reviewed the first, When Danger Bites, when it was published last year. The idea is a special Marines Unit with only werewolves coming from the diverse packs of the country. Here we follow them on a rescue mission in the south American jungle to get back a little boy and a tourist kidnapped by unidentified people.

The story begins strongly as we discover directly Bianca trying to protect the little boy at the risk of her life, then the commando members intervene and free them. Just after that Cage realizes he probably bit Bianca when he attacked the man who was going to kill her and she may transform, and the soufflé deflates and never takes again.

Bianca isn’t a classical heroine, she’s been raised by parents members of Doctors without borders all over the world and she’s herself part of an international humanitarian organization. She’s not afraid to defend herself and once she tases the hero because she heard someone following her in the street.
Cage isn’t an alpha hero, he’s calmer and less domineering than those we’re used to in shifters stories. The attraction between them is immediate, even too much as Bianca is scarcely awake, still dehydrated and feverish, when she begins to notice Cage’s attractive body, but as they spend a lot of time almost alone together we see them getting used to the other and we see their feelings evolve.

As Bianca was mistreated and hit by the kidnappers, she’s got a cast on her wrist and several bruises on her face so there are a lot of reactions by people they meet, sympathy and attention toward her and hostility toward Cage. That was great and comforted me, but I’m afraid in real life people would much more look away than face a 7feet tall potentially violent boyfriend.

Unfortunately we have a quite classical story about two people very attracted by each other who get closer then intimate without really knowing each other while one of them hides an important fact from the other, with lots of repetitions in their thoughts – especially “I hope I didn’t really bit her”, “I hope she won’t change”, and “I probably ruined her life.”
I was waiting for something to happen, not just the apparition of Cage’s father – and there again a big hole as they have a tense relationship but we don’t really know why.

And finally we don’t really know why the child was kidnapped to begin with, we’re told it’s probably because he’s the son of a diplomat but as the kidnappers are all dead this subplot is never wrapped. Too bad.

This book starts off leaping right into the action, making it a really exciting book to start on a day when you need something other than caffeine to wake you up! I loved how the author reeled you in with a rescue mission and then allowed the reader to get comfy and cozy with the main characters. I love military romances, and when you throw in a paranormal world, it becomes a great mix of genres that is sure to delight readers who love alpha males. And the great part is that our heroine is no beta - she gives as good as she gets and sticks up for herself. A match made in...well...the jungle!

All Bianca Devlin wanted was a vacation. And really, she didn't even want that, but her boss forced her to take some time off and enjoy the sandy beaches of Costa Rica. When she sees a little boy being kidnapped, however, her instinct to protect kicks into gear and she finds herself kidnapped right along with him. Enter Sergeant Carlos "Cage" Castillo, a Marine sent on a search and rescue mission for an ambassador's son, who wasn't expecting to meet a woman like Bianca. With the heart of a saint and the stubbornness of a mule, she has no intention of hiding and licking her wounds after her kidnapping. Instead she jumps right into a project that will help those less fortunate than her. Cage follows her to Texas, where he soon finds his feelings for her are more than just that of a rescuer and victim. Which is a problem, since Cage is a werewolf and after accidentally biting her during the mission, she just might be one too.

A strong-willed woman and a tough-as-nails Marine - what could be a better mix than that? I loved how sweet Cage was towards Bianca, despite his overwhelming anxiety over her possibly turning into a werewolf. While he went into the relationship with the objective to get close to her and ensure she was safe, he eventually couldn't help falling in love with such a generous and kind woman. Bianca, in turn, couldn't help falling for the protective man who couldn't stop checking in on her. He became a fixture in her home, and their relationship seemed so natural. Like they had known each other for years, even though it had only been a few weeks. It was nice reading a romance like that. It didn't feel like it moved too fast, and yet the reader knows it is moving pretty fast considering the circumstances. I enjoyed their relationship a lot, and it made me anxious to read about the secondary characters next!

This is my first book by Heather Long, and I am eager to read what she has in store for us next!

Title: Bitten Under Fire
Series: Bravo Team WOLF Book #2
Stand Alone Title: yes
Author: Heather Long
Genre: Romance, Paranormal
Blurb: Bianca Devlin’s work is her life. Now, she’s finally taking a vacation…and guerillas hit her resort to kidnap a diplomat’s son.

Thoughts: I have been eagerly awaiting – on pins and needles – for the release of this book. I LOVED the first book in the series When Danger Bites, and I was expecting to love this one just as much. While it didn’t quit hit my radar with the same success as When Danger Bites, I still enjoyed this one immensely. Bianca was an exceedingly strong female character – I loved her bravery, her compassion, her strength and self-knowledge of who she is a person, etc. She is pretty much a saint of epic proportion. In fact, she’s one of those that leave you questioning yourself more on whether you could be doing more in the arena of giving back to society. And trust me, compared to Bianca you can always do more! LOL You can’t help but like her though. I loved Cage to, and Long has a talent for bringing you in as reader to feel the emotions of her characters. This one had less of a focus on the paranormal aspect (surprisingly) considering the series is built on it, but without the whole ‘accidental bite’ aspect of it, it reads more like an action/military romantic suspense novel. Paranormal reads are my favorite though so I kind of missed that focus, but all in all, another hit for Heather Long.

3.5 Stars

This is the second installment in the series. Now that we "know" about the secret military group (Bravo Team WOLF), I was hoping for a little more PNR "action", so to speak. Unfortunately, this left me a bit bored at times, while in others, I was riveted. Hmmm...

Carlos "Cage" Castillo is a member of the Bravo Team. He's been given the honor of leading a mission, rescuing a kidnapped boy. But he soon discovers that it's not just the boy that will need rescuing. Although the rescue goes well, there's a hiccup. One that could not only jeopardize the secret group, but change the life of an innocent human.

Bianca Devlin could be considered a saint. She's spent the majority of her life running in to disasters, helping those less fortunate. So when she's supposed to be on vacation and witnesses a little boy being kidnapped, she steps in to help. Except, now she's in just as much danger. That is until they're rescued by the Bravo Team. Now? Now she still may need to be rescued because she can't seem to get Cage off the brain, out of her bed nor out of her thoughts. Uh oh.

The premise of the story is great. The natural chemistry between Cage and Bianca is actually super cute and fun to witness. Those aspects of the story worked for me. But there were multiple times when I just wanted to "get to it already". I didn't need to know each-and-every detail of making breakfast, accessing emotions, etc. It made the story drag when it shouldn't have.

Point made, once I hit the 60% mark, the flow picked up, drawing me deeper into the story. I felt as though we got to experience the PNR aspect of the story more so in this installment than in the first (although still limited). When the "ah ha" moment happens, it put a smile on my face, that remained until the very end.
