Sandi and Pete have earned a reputation for solving old cases, and they’re approached by a woman who’d like a 1930s crime solved. A man was brutally murdered and his brother immediately disappeared. The authorities believed the brother was their best suspect, but they weren’t able to track him down.

Case closed – or was it? A lone police officer didn’t like the results and spent the rest of his life searching for answers.

Their client’s father had tried to clear the name of Harley Glosser, the dead man’s brother, but his efforts were futile. His interest in the case? Horace and Harley Glosser were his cousins.

With the discovery of a private room in the house where the crime was committed, Sandi and Pete must change their thought processes and start running down other suspects and looking at other locations, including an old speakeasy. The potential suspects are people in their nineties, so they also have to hope they’re still living.

Why would someone in the current day try to put a halt to the investigation? After all, the murder took place in the 1930s.

Circumstances are often not as they seem, and this case is no exception.

The Sandi Webster mystery series by Marja McGraw is one of my favorite mystery series and "Gin Mill Grill" is an excellent addition.

Without giving away too much of the story - because you really should read it for yourself - here's a brief overview:
Sandi and her husband, Pete, have been asked to solve a cold case, the murder and disappearance of two brothers. In the process of investigating the case, more bodies turn up and lots of long kept secrets are revealed.

I highly recommend this book and the others in the series.

A complex story of three murders has Sandi and Pete Goldberg investigating the history of the Gin Mill Grill, a restaurant and speakeasy from the thirties. As they uncover each aspect, another comes to light. But a threatening message to stop looking into the past, only makes them determined to find the answers.

As the investigation progresses, Sandi feels like the past is becoming the present and they’re intertwined in some odd way. Which of course, we find out that they are. I enjoyed investigating this cold case right along with Sandi and Pete. With a few twists and some surprising finds in the old speakeasy turned restaurant, this was a fun and fascinating mystery to read. I highly recommend it.

As always, I absolutely love the Sandi Webster series and this book is no exception. I couldn't put it down, which is the norm when I read Marja McGraw's books. After reading it, I had to get in touch with her because there are so many common threads in this particular book and my own latest novel called Snow Angel. We had a really nice discussion and shared our sources for various things included. These books have characters that I feel are my friends. I know them well and love to read whatever their latest caper might be. I highly recommend this one.

I just love this series. The stories are so interesting and this one was, too. Reading all about the speakeasy days was wonderful.
