I've read a lot of counting books in my ten years as a Cybils judge. A lot. I can't imagine how many counting books come across a good editor's desk.

Everybunny Count! is a counting book. But don't let that stop you from reading it and sharing it. This book is a fresh look at a counting book.

It may feel ridiculous to give a spoiler alert for a counting book, but I want to share one amazing part of this book, and it will absolutely ruin the wonderful surprise in the tiny slice of a story here, but I'm going to do it anyway because it's so wonderful....

The bunnies in this story are playing hide-and-seek. The end involves the unexpected arrival of a fox.

That's all I'm going to say, but it's the wonderful part of this book. Delightful. Surprising. Not impossible.

This is mostly just a sweet counting book, with pretty animal pictures, but it gets points because it could have been cynical and wasn't. When I saw on the first page that bunnies and a fox were playing hide-and-seek, my brain immediately thought we'd be counting backwards, with bunnies disappearing as meals for the fox (too much of Mo Willems That is NOT a Good Idea, perhaps?). Anyway, that did not happy, but we counted the bunnies from 1 to 10 and then there was a (non-violent!) surprise ending. My three-year-old enjoyed it a lot.

It bothered me that every line rhymed except the line that tried to rhyme "paw" with "four" -- couldn't they find a rhyme for four?

As the foxes and bunnies play together, they decide that today is the day for hide-and-seek. They count up to ten and then as they search, the counting begins again. They steadily count up to ten once more, giving young listeners objects to count on each page. When the bunnies finally find Fox, he has a surprise for them! One that will help them count all the way to ten again. Sandall’s picture book has a freshness and a lightness that is very welcome. The incorporation of so much counting in a single book adds to the fun as do the personalities of each of the animals. A counting delight. Appropriate for ages 2-4.

This was a cute counting book that my 2-year old requested over and over while we had it from the library. I loved that the illustrations included so many different things to count on each page. My daughter has also been super into playing hide and seek lately, and I’m not sure if it started because of this book or if she loves this book because it’s about one of her favorite games. Maybe a little of both!

Soft, yet vibrant color scheme, with additional details that aid in the counting lesson on pages, e.g. snails, carrots, ladybugs, etc.

Great for Easter or any time you're doing a bunny storytime.

A counting book in more ways than one--the text obviously has you count, but then you also have plenty of things to find in the illustrations, corresponding with the number as well!

I cracked up realizing that the author must be British, because to my American English brain, "paw" and "four" do not rhyme.

Liked the illustrations, LOVED the cadence of the rhymes. Each and every page has not just one group of items to count, but a couple of groups of items to count. I really loved this book as a counting book for little ones.

Ok, get over the fact that foxes and bunnies aren't friends, and this is an adorable counting book. Readers will have fun finding the hiding fox on each page and the illustrations are marvelous. Highly recommended.

This is cute, but my adult brain says that bunnies and foxes will not be playing hide and seek, and I have never seen a vixen with 10 kits (4 maybe but not 10). I did like that the number per page was reflected in everything, 8 bunnies, 8 trees, 8 sheep. That was really well done.

The bunnies are playing hide and seek, so it's time to count to 10 and hide. Now, count them as you find them. It's a pretty big book, so you can see the hidden animals pretty well, even in a storytime crowd.
