Margaret Elsie (Crowther) Baillie-Saunders (1872 - 1949)
Margaret, writing under the name Mrs. Baillie-Saunders, was an English novelist. Her novels include Litany Lane, McBride's First Wife, Black Sheep Chapel and Lady Q.
The daughter of a solicitor, she was born in 1872 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England. In the 1881 Census of England, she was recorded with her father George, mother Mary, and sisters Edith, Alice, Catherine and Janet, brother George, and grandmother Mary Ann Crowther. At that time, the Crowthers lived in Ripon, Yorkshire.
In 1901 she married Church of England clergyman Frederick William B. Saunders (also known as Frederick Baillie-Saunders) in London. In 1911 they lived in St. John at Hackney parish, London, where Frederick was the parish priest. Margaret's younger sister Catherine Crowther was also listed in the household as were two servants.
Margaret died 24 Apr 1949 at about age 77 in Lewes, Sussex, England.
