The Wholesome Heart of Happily Ever After...

It all started when I was a kid. I developed a love of raspberry jam (still love it) and a love of writing (ditto on that one too).

I wrote my first book at the ripe old age of nine. It was eight whole pages! Unfortunately, it was a shameless rip-off of Black Beauty. What can I say? Like most girls, I loved horses (yep, still do). For my fifth-grade career day, I declared my desire to become a rich and famous author. Years later, I’m pleased to have achieved the “author” part of that goal.

One of my favorite things about writing is the research part! I know, it’s a bit of a surprise to some folks, because it sounds suspiciously like “homework”. But for me, it’s so much fun! I truly enjoy researching the backgrounds and careers of the characters in my novels and of course the plot lines. It's one way to live many lives all at once.

And what better inspiration than beautiful northern California, where I live with my writer husband, Roger (birds of a feather as they say). I’ve also lived on the East Coast and in the Navajo Nation, the setting for several of my novels. Like most women of my generation, I wish the kids would visit more often. When they’re not around, I enjoy playing with my imaginary friends, who take me on all kinds of adventures.

If you enjoy my books, please tell everyone you know: friends, relatives, neighbors, the person who delivers your mail, folks you meet in line in the grocery store…ahem. I love hearing from readers (the good, the bad, and the funny). Reach me at susan@susanaylworth.com

RESCUE is exciting and fresh and inspiring. When Dulce is one of the only survivors of a plane crash deep in the Amazon jungle, she faces all kinds of dangers as she fights to survive. A fascinating insight into one of the most mysterious places in the word and a strong heroine that will make you cheer for the determination.

I was asked to review this ARC for the author, Susan Aylworth and I am so glad I did. This is a fantastic book on survival in the Amazon Rainforest. A 16 year old girl and a toddler are the only survivors of a plane crash in the middle of the rainforest and this story details their trials and tribulations over the course of three weeks. Dulce was willing to give up many times but the love that grew in her heart for Monica kept her going. This is a book that once you start it you will not want to put it down until the end! You will shed tears,......some happy, some sad,..........you will laugh and you will cheer. You will realize that anything is possible if you put your mind to the task.

I received this book free with the intention to review, this didn't  effect my opinion of the book.
This book is full of adventure, experience the struggles of a 15 year old girl whose plane crashed in the Amazon rainforest. I especially loved how even through her struggles she persists even when all hope of survival seems lost forever. The main characters inner strength inspired me to keep moving forward.

I was instantly drawn into this story! I was outraged at Marissa’s parents. I was surprised by Marissa’s cool demeanor even in tense situations. I was inspired by the dedication, reverence, and appreciation, that she demonstrated throughout the book.

As she faces the perils of the rainforest, Marissa learns value life lessons as she applies knowledge to situations she and the toddler she has rescued, Monica, are faced with. She discovers that despite Monica’s dependence on her for safety and information, that Monica is teaching her just as much.
Their experiences lead them away from the crash site in search of a way home. Their encounters are unexpected and offer more twists and surprises to their eventual rescue! The resolution of their return is all covered and neatly uncovered and explained.

Susan Aylworth is a fascinating writing who understands the impact of capturing her audience and keeping them snared with twisting scenarios, plots that weave and intertwine, and characters that evoke empathy and interest. Although this was the first book I’ve read by her, I will definitely scout for more! I loved this book so much that I read it in one sitting!

Interesting story. I honestly would not survive living for three weeks in the forest, let alone with someone else to care for. I appreciate the descriptions of the rain forest and everything they went through. I actually learned a lot about bugs (not sure I could eat them, but I guess if you were desperate enough), snakes, animals, native life, etc. This was a mystery novel full of real life information.

I really liked the fact too that she brought in a higher power. When people are desperate they cling to hope – and what better hope is there than a something bigger than we are. I felt the novel was a little slow in getting to the end, but I would highly recommend this book.

I'm rounding up on this story because I seriously had to skip lots of pages. I "liked" it, but I don't do icky stuff because I'm a wimp, but that's a personal problem. The story itself is written well and is a survivor story of a teenage girl who escapes the jaws of death more than once. An extreme coming of age story. It's not for the faint of heart because of the content and detailed descriptions. I actually think that boys would love this story, including my husband. This is not a story where the rescue happens in one chapter and we move on, the majority of this novel is about surviving.

Riveting

Intense. This is a story with non-stop action, heartbreak, trials, and what seems like an unfathomable struggle to survive against all odds. Not an easy read by any means, I had to ski over many of the gory parts and found myself taking breaks when it became too much. Not suitable for all readers. This is a tough book to read but it is so well-written I had to pace myself. I desperately wanted to jump ahead and see how it all ended. I felt myself completely sucked into the story . I highly recommend this book but it is not for the faint of heart by any means. Excellent.

This book was riveting! From the moment I picked it up, I couldn’t stop reading. It was well written with great characters. I loved the growth Dulce exhibited as she struggled with her experience. It was very evocative. One minutes I was laughing at Dulce’s sense of humor and the next I was in tears. The plot moved quickly and steadily. I highly recommend this book and will be looking for more books by Susan Aylworth.
